It's quite clear that Matthew Upson doesn't want to stay at Birmingham City and you can't blame him. Would you want to play for a club in the lower leagues? Especially when you know that if you do come up to the Premiership it won't be for long?
Upson has turned down the offer of a contract recently and Birmingham are resigned to losing the defender. But would you want him at Villa?
Let's forget that he plays for Blues for a minute and concentrate on his football. He's a good player but he does suffer from the odd injury. We've got Liam Ridgewell, Olof Mellberg and Gary Cahill who for me are playing some really good football and are only going to get better.
What I think it comes down to is priority in January. Is the priority a defender or a creative midfielder or maybe even a 20 goal a season striker?
Personally I'd like to see a proper wide man for the left but that's just me.

It always a tricky one. If hes and extra addition to what we already have, then why not. But another defender isnt priority. I'd rather have Upson than no one in January but I would like other positions strenthend first.
Blue will probably want silly money for him aswell and I'd rather see the millions go on a striker personally.
I definitely think we should be concentrating on getting a goal scorer in ahead of anything else. As for Upson I think he is a good player but is to injury prone. If he comes to the Villa and if he stays fit then being at a bigger club (mind you Accrington Stanley are a bigger club than Small Heath Alliance)we could have an England international on our hands.
i don't care if rooney was playing there and we had a chance to sign him. no more noses at our beautiful club. we didn't pay 4 sutton so he's ok. don't help small heath by giving them our dough!!!!!!!
If we have the money why not. He is a quality defender and can only improve under O'Neill
id rather rod my dog then see upson in claret and blue im afraid...he's played for the vile stinking scumbags from across the expressway. fair enough sutton played for them but he was on loan and that doesnt count does it:-)
Mr Oneil sat very close to me at the Blues on Saturday, the papers said he was watching "Nugent" He was marking comments on Upson. Oneil obviously Fancies Him!! Make a Change from Will Young!! Anyway he wants to go to a big Club. So rules you lot out!!
dont be feckin stupid.....if we can get Upson for â¬3million then we should rip their arms off...we need some more cover and he is a quality player, and seen as he soon out of contract he will be a bargain.
I dont see a problem with takin ex-blues players, actually it would be all the sweeter if he went on to star for us!!
The story may be complete tripe though so no need to worry too much. IT does however make me wory about Martn Laursen?? He should be near fit by now,but is no word on a comback for him at all yet. I hope he's back shortly but his persistent injuries may force ONeills hand and Upson wudnt be a bad option
I don't care that he is bluenose reject; I think his defending is specious and just hope some other club takes him--like Charlton (ha!). I'm with Matt--we don't want small heath getting any of our money.
Jimmy - According to Skysports Laursen is Scheduled to come back in Feb sometime.
Toad - Did you get a mate to put that piece of dribble on this site?? Everyone know's blue noses can't spell, type, think ...etc
Up the Villa
Can't beleive we are waiting for a larson comeback ? true when he plays he looks quality - but he is injury prone - and probably always will be. I will be very surprised if he gets another villa contract.
As for Upson - quality player - but londoners rarely settle in brum - and his next move will probably be south
We need a striker who will score on every opportunity. It should be our only priority. We don't need another Laursen.
