Rumours of the day: Barry Ferguson and Marlon Harewood

It's January 3rd 2007 and we've not signed anyone yet. You might think the transfer window has come as a surprise to the club but I have a sneaky feeling that deals are underway and we'll get some news very soon.

Despite most of the what the manager wants to do probably almost done there are still rumours doing the rounds and today they involve Marlon Harewood of West Ham and Barry Ferguson MBE of Rangers.

Harewood is a big striker and may fall into what Martin O'Neill is looking for. He's certainly the type of player that can put goals in the back of the net as his record for West Ham shows.

Barry Ferguson on the other hand had a spell at Blackburn Rovers a few years ago and it never worked out. He is the current captain of Scotland but he's had a falling out, along with a few other players, with current Rangers manager Paul Le Guen.

Blackburn have also received offers for defender Lucas Neill although they're not saying who has bid. Would Martin O'Neill be interested?

More tomorrow but don't be surprised if there is an announcement or two soon; it's not as if the manager hasn't known for some time he needs a few players.
