Samuel set to leave Aston Villa

Wednesday, 21 March 07, 04:08 AM · Comments (6)

Aston Villa defender JLloyd Samuel is set to leave Villa Park regardless of what offer is made, if any, to extend his contract at the club.

The defender is out of a contract in the summer and is set to move on a free. This will mean a nice pay packet for the player who has only made five appearances this season under Martin O'Neill.

His lack of first team football isn't just down to the emergence of Wilfred Bouma finally finding form. Barry is also preferred at left back instead of the player.

Talking to the Birmingham Mail Samuel was adamant in leaving, "It's obvious my future lies elsewhere. I'm only playing reserve football at the moment and I'm better than that.

"This has been the most frustrating season I've ever known and my career has just stood still for the last 18 months.

"It started well enough for me when I was selected for the opening game of the season at Arsenal, but then I got the injury and it's all been downhill since then."

There is no doubting Samuel has ability but we've all seen some silly mistakes also. Maybe he hasn't had a fair chance but Martin O'Neill makes the decision on who plays and who doesn't; who are we to question?

His ability is in going forward and he has made some dangerous runs in many games I've watched.... However, he makes mistake after mistake and I am always nervous when he is pratting around with the ball in defence. I remember his debut when he took on and arsenal forward instead of clearing is lines. They robbed him and left us open. I thought he would learn but he is often dispossed. He is not the quality we need for the future and I think Bouma is. After a shaky start we are starting to see what he is all about (now that he stopped eating pies)

I like him but maybe it is his time to move on, and good luck to him I hope its not the last we hear from him.

Dreadful player, dreadful attitude.

Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out J-Lo.

His statements have pretty much said how he feels about us. He thinks he has a divine right to be playing in the first team without knuckling down and proving himself and for that alone he shouldn't be offered a new contract.

Best for both parties, he'll never have a future at villa, so he may as well go to Bolton or something. To be honest he doesn't have the right attitude for the club, abit like baros did. u can't hav players like that as they can affect the whole team.
