Shorey leaving Villa for Spurs, Canella coming to us and decision to be made on Jovanovic

It never started the right way for Shorey when he came to Villa Park and because he got his two chances to impress in an England shirt and didn't, I suspect he's got a bit of an attitude.
I mean, can you take any bloke seriously called Nicky? I'll tell you one manager who'll take the piss out of him; Harry Redknapp and if you believe the press today, he's interested in landing him and Harry will take the piss proper out of any bloke going by a girls name.
Anyway, it will only happen if we land Roberto Canella from Sporting Gijon. This rumour started yesterday and the club haven't yet denied it, so maybe there is some truth in it. I mean, they started denying rumours this week, maybe that means this one has some substance?
I've not seen Sporting Gijon play this season, that I'm aware of, but apparently this 20 year old left back is worth £10mn. and he's very highly rated prospect. We'll see if anything happens.
Lastly today, Standard Liege striker Milan Jovanovic is waiting for us to make an offer for him, apparently. According to wild speculation, which again isn't denied by the club, it's between us and Stuttgart.
A close friend of the striker told the Daily Star, I know, “At the moment, though, the Germans are favourites – and maybe Villa have only a few days to change that.”
I'm sure there are more but for now we'll leave it at that. We don't want the club coming out having to make denials all day - they've got quality content to prepare for us.

I don't know anything about the other two, but I am amazed at the sudden in foreign players. Has there been a change in staff at Villa or a change in policy..?

why is a big deal made of villa denying rumours? and how come people moan about o'neils transfer dealings and the way he does things and then yesterday someone complains about villa buying another 'one for the future' you all jump on his back (even tho the whole post was about villa buying many players for the future and none of them getting anywhere?)
I think Shorey should go but only when we get a decent replacement, any news on when Bouma is back? for our striking options Crouch is our best option in the league at the minute and I think we could get him as pompy are cash strapped at the minute as TOny adams can't even use the tranfer fees for defoe or diarra to buy anyone, pompy to go down this season
Here's an idea, if Spurs are so desperate for Shorey why don't we swap him for Bale?

Have just read an article on CANELLA, and was relieved right at the end of it when it said that he can defend as well, - Phew!
UPSON - Big strong no nonsense centre half with a wealth of experience at all levels. 29yrs for a modern day footballer is fairly young, especially for a defender. 11mil is a bit steep, but he's the kind of player that is capable of coming straight in to the team and doing a job - Priceless!
HESKEY - This is a calculated risk by MON if it goes through. I fear it could go one of two ways. Probably better this, than risking an apparently better continental option like JOVANOVIC who might not find his feet in time.

Harry isn't a mug. Bale is worth fare more than Shorey so there's no chance he'd consider more than one player included in a potential deal.
Don't forget Spurs signed Bale for fee of around £10m, so we'd probably have to include at least £5m or so with Shorey.
I'd be a bit worried about Jovanovic, purely because of our past experience with Serbians. I know they don't all have the same attitude but it still concerns me.
Canella would be nice though.

Damian...Villa probably felt they had to comment on the Upson thing as supporters were queuing up to return their season tickets. I would rather them deny rumours that scary then just ignore them.
I have made a resolution not to talk about media speculation anymore because it's all agent driven. Fair play to Villa they seem to deal extremely honourably and without leakage. Frustrating for us but something to be proud of.
Regarding the previous thread -we bought Gareth Barry as a youth team player and that worked out pretty well.

I can’t see Tony Mowbray’s strugglers causing too many problems for Martin O’Neill’s in-form team this weekend.
I know John Carew did a lot of the damage in the 2-1 win at The Hawthorns but even without him Villa have plenty of firepower to beat the Baggies.
My prediction is 4-1 to Villa with Ashley Young scoring two, along with goals from Gabby Agbonlahor and James Milner, and a consolation from Jonathan Greening.

Betty, I will be very suprised if we sign 2 strikers. MON loves to bring players through from the youth team and signing 2 would hinder the advancement of Delfouneso. Unless of course AA is right and Carew and Harewood are both leaving.

Canella is a very promising left back. I've seen a few Gijon matches on Setanta this season and, although I wasn't really watching HIM, he stood out as being very quick and likes to get forward. Could be a handy extra tool and potentially could work well on the overlap with Ashley(a-la Bosingwa at Chelsea). Could be interesting.

After he was initially dropped, he came back and O'Neill was full of praise for him again. So unless hes been caught out again doing something wrong (but not in the public eye), I cant see his withdrawal from the squad being due to him getting a Clough style lesson.

How many Villa fans are already watching Sky Sports, surfing the net and addicted to this bloody transfer window? I know I am but then I keep asking myself why when I know we will not act as like a top four club and buy a proven striker. We will not replace the shite defenders we've got or get a midfielder that can pass and create! This mirrors the season (not exactly) but when we last had vertigo in the league. What happened... we lost players and failed to add to our squad. If we don't buy we'll finish sixth again and out of all the cups... if we make a few top signings then we'll be in the top four. I can't wait for the 03 Feb 09 when the window is shut and we can all write about who (if any we buy).

I would love to see these signings, if I could pick any two positions to get a signing for these are it. FB and ST, (preferably LB). We'd have our defense so much more sorted and our front. Javanovic is a classy player who has enough quality in him to help create his goal it's not always just a matter of a ball dropping to him and getting a lucky smash, can't pretend I know about Canella though.

A friend of Arsene Whinger was on radio last night saying Arsenal don't have a lot of money to spend on transfers, £10m to £15m maximum. And they will be in trouble if they don't qualify for champions league next season as debt on stadium hurting them bad and they can't sell apartments built on Highbury site. Well the club didn't really release much information about his injuries, coupled with the fact he had a pretty public falling out with O'Neill about his nightclub fiasco, so it's hardly surprising people have made these theories.
the reason why people think big john will leave is simple...he has been a nomad all his career so why should he stop now..

If Carew is the player banned for 3 months then he won't be back til the end of February, he played against Man Utd end of November. Reported on bbc site that he is expected back this month. Seems a bit iffy to me.

No not at all, but that's why they're only theories.
By the same token the club gave us a less than solid reassurance that Carew was actually injured. It's only recently we've really found out about this mysterious back injury that has supposedly taken a turn for the worse (again, the extent of that is not known).
I know our club isn't the bet when it comes to news, and I'd love nothing more than for him to stay, but you have to admit they have been very vague on the matter of Carew's injury.

I think our theroies, while sounding very plauseable, are running riot. If you look at the big mans games prior to the club declaring he was injured you could see he was off the pace and struggling with something like the game in prague ?!?!?! When I say I think JC will be leaving in January it's based not on one thing, but on a few little things. The falling out with MON, the way MON spoke in an interview seemed like he was not that bothered about JC like he used to be. (can't quite remember the words) The way MON has adopted 4-5-1 will leave JC in such a formation generally, so JC may well be thinking he's not going to get a game and then start to look elsewhere. The interest from other clubs and a couple of other things. I don't have any concrete evidence for my theory, but it is entirely that, 'a theory', just my opinion. I'm not shit stirring or doing JC down. I'd rather have him at the club. This has been discussed in the forum and at least three of us had noticed these things. We are not doing JC down and it's not based on any cocaine scandal, because I had no idea about that until someone posted it on here yesterday (the worse rumour I read was that JC had HIV positive) but such rumours are purely a load of shit.
If JC stays that's bloody great, but it's only my opinion that he will be off to a european club in January.

if we stay injury free and Big John comes back fit and firing i still think we could finish in the top 4, if big john doesnt come back and we get a few injuries to key players we could slip to maybe 5th, which wouldn't be the end of the world cause would still be an improvement on last year HOWEVER this year is our best chance for 4th with the top slipping up everywhere we should be going for 3rd cause we can do it
With the injuries starting and the number of games, then we simply can't afford to not put our strongest team out that has been playing the games prior to the last couple. If we lose Gareth, Carlos, Martin and god forbid Ash Young, then we are stuffed. It's nothing near the same team without these.
Somoene the other day said don't rock the boat and keep with what we have. Total madness! We need quality back-up to see us through to a top 4 finish. The money and a draw for top players will make this club great again (not that it is not now in our eyes).
If we don't strengthen I can see us finishing a 5th if we have the same good luck, but if not 6th. And that's only because other teams are not doing so well. I only see Everton giving us a run for 5th place now.

If Everton can get a striker in Jan i think they will actually be in the running for 4th. They are so strong at home and they have a really good midfield. As for transfers i think we need 5 new faces this Jan but after the last few years i've leardned not to get my hopes up.

The way i read it was that the player is not banned at the moment as he failed no test but rather the club put him into the clinic themselves (prob in order to not have him fail a test and then not be able to sell himon just like Adrian Mutu). Now i really don't think its Carew but i put the link up here as it could tie in with the mysterious injury he has at the moment. Like is i said i really hope it isn't as i think we are missing him greatly at the moment (results don't show this thankfully) as we are not dangerous anymore from set pieces and also he is great to have to hold the ball up. We would find it hard to get a player in that would this job better especially the way we seem to hoof it up from the back line.

Pure speculation here, but I have a feeling we could see Defour and Jovanovic come in a joint deal as MON does like to buy in pairs. These are 2 players we have been linked with, Jovanovic being the 3rd striker we've been crying out for and Defour the playmaker in the middle with that little bit of guile that we have missed against teams that sit deep. OK it is going to cost about 25 mil but it would show are intent of securing a top 4 finishes.

Shorey would fit spurrs play better than he dose are's, still not too sure he's been given a proppa chance to find his form, i have also seen that spurrs are sniffing round NRC, if we could get between 8 and 12 million for him it would be a good deal as i have never realy rated him as a center mid or right mid,

Philbob....yes...i've also heard lost of talk of JC going...most of it has been pure speculation on this blog though. I've heard in very reliable newspapers that we're buying Canella, Owen, Defoe, etc etc etc...and those rumours were exactly that too...rumours without a trace of fact behind them. You may turn out to be right (i personally doubt it and sincerely hope not) but I have yet to see the slightest hint of background knowledge or fact to substantiate the rumour and personally I wish people would stop recycling the rumour unless they have some new information based in fact to support it.
