Not one to tell the club what they're doing wrong and I certainly don't want to be annoying the new people just yet but I've just read something which all of a sudden hit home and I'm not sure, if I like it.
Most will know about the survey that the club are running about the 'new crest'. The first thing the club should know is it's a badge and not a crest. It doesn't actually bother me but if you allow this to go on it's how things are changed and from now on we'll only refer to it as a badge.
But to my concern, I've read in the Richard FitzGerald Q&A that they make look to incorporate a star into the new badge, as Premiership rules state you can't have a star above the badge.
Stop it now Aston Villa. I don't want some MLS style badge with stars added to it or the paw of the lion clawing out at me. I want something traditional and clean and if we're not allowed a star above our badge then you either produce a kit for us fans that would like that or you get us back into European football so we can buy one legitimately.
Don't add to the badge please. Play with the design and layout but don't start adding stars and stripes to it, just because a few might have said they want a star.
Clearly it's only my opinion and many will probably want a star in the new badge but I don't as it won't represent the European Cup victory because it won't be known by anyone else. Produce a shirt for next season with the star above the badge for the fans but please don't go changing or adding to the badge.
Aston Villa in Europe

I agree with some of the comments. Although I am very proud of the acheivements of our team in our past glory days, I would rather efforts be made towards getting back into Europe and putting the biggest star possible on the shirt, we can then turn round with two fingers up at the F.A because of their daft rules!!
Im not saying getting fans to contribute towards these type of changes is bad, however I for one would like to have a say in the kit design rather than changing the badge (I think it should be left alone for the time being)
In all fairness, us fans are going to be split either way. Im just glad we have a management team that seem to be focused on what we want rather than what they want as individuals!!
Up the Villa!!!
They are just recognising how important our achievements are to us all and embracing our rich tradition and history. Prime example being the holte hotel restoration.
I like the fact that FC will be re-introduced as we are no longer a plc. Also I dont think they are that stupid to start changing it that much and make it look ''MLS'' or American.
They wont get it wrong, and I wouldnt be suprised if they were to release mock ups, once ready, on the official website to guage further thought and opinion.
One thing is for sure, they will make sure they get it right and make us feel like we were all involved and able to voice our opinions.
I have complete faith in Randy and his troops, so far the guy has been nothing short of a revelation for our club - he saved us, dont forget that.
Think we got to understand this in a business context. The new owners have said they want to exploit the Villa "brand" more throughout the world. One of the first things they will want to do is get an updated image and make sure they have all the right Trademarks and copyrights to exploit it properly. Arsenal did something similar when they flipped their gunners logo round recently. I think we will see much more than a badge. There will be effectively be club image rights used to generate income. Like it or not it's the modern way of doing business and a million miles away from the Ellis era.
I'm all for the re-branding and changing things around but I think we should play around with what we've got and incorporating a star into the badge just doesn't work for me.
I'm also very positive about the 'new' Aston Villa ... I just think incorporating a star 'into' the badge would be a cheap way of recognising the European Cup win .. and it would mean nothing to anyone else but Villa fans.
I'm also confident that it won't happen, that they'll release mock-ups and we'll have a say.
i dont care how we do it, but we should have a star in on or above our badge. there not going to have a lion's paw coming out at you , its a bit far to suggest such a thing, but it shows lerners devotion to recognising the past achievments of our great club.
but even if the lion had his paw out and winking at me, i couldn't care less as long as he continues to back o'neill with players like he has so far...because thats where it matters!
As I wait with baited breath on the news that Aston Villa FC's badge will be transformed to reflect the new focus of a club, which currently stands proud on the crescendo of a wave and is about to take a giant leap into a new era, I felt I’d add a couple of comments to today’s discussion.
A new ear, as we keep hearing, is upon us and the transformation of our previously ridicules marketing strategy can clearly be seen taking effect. We sit hear today discussing the implications of introducing a star to our club badge, which a) we should all be proud of, and b) be thankful we are not still being run/managed by the previous regime of marketing muppets.
Corporate branding is essential in any business and such businesses certainly promote there achievements not hide them. I’d imagine a great number of Villans have discussed the magnificent achievement of 82, and on many occasions experience the stunned faces of people questioning whether we’ve got our facts straight. We need to promote this achievement, as England has done with the World Cup. In club football this is the highest accolade on the European stage, so we too should remind people what we’ve won.
FitzGerald sat at the helm of IMG for many years and I’m sure his guidance is paramount to the success of Aston Villa. Yes I agree this must also be achieved on the pitch, but with such branding it only does one thing, generates revenue! This can be put back into the team and club facility which makes us more attractive, and hopefully reflects in a climb up the league and back into European success.
I have no issue with the star, but I do agree the badge needs to reflect the history of our club.
New shirt sponsor, new shirt manufacture, new badge, hopefully some digital marketing pitch sign (which generate vast revenue above the standard Leggs eleven 1x3m boards), new chairman and fantastic new manger! With this in mind we should focus on the good things and hopefully the great times to ahead, rather than raise concern about a star on a badge which would reflect one of our greatest football achievements.
Up the VILLA!
I am a supporter of having a star incorporated in to the badge as we are part of an elite group of clubs to have won the European Cup and thats worth recognising...re arrange the badge but do not add or take away anything although i think it is fine as it is with possibly the addition of FC after VILLA....and Randy wont "Americanise" us as he knows and values the traditions of the club
Amen! Good post.
Can't we hust have a star on the arm of the shirt ??? would be sooo simple
I think Including a star on the badge or kit would be good for the Villa. There's no reason why we can't show our european success. other clubs do it, so why can't we. Randy will make this club a multi national club, known through out the world like Man u, Chelsea, Real Madrid etc doing these changes will make the club bigger and better. Which is surly what all us villa fans want for the club.
