It wasn't good enough today, bottom line and if you disagree with me, then you're probably going to be happy finishing top half.
A bookmaker has already paid out for people that had a bet on Stoke going down this season and we really should have won today.
Martin O'Neill talks about this 'quality' he wants to add and I understand why now, because today we didn't have any; both goals came from nothing. While there was some nice build up during the game, everything else came to nothing.
We had no idea how to play against 10 men behind the ball in the first half and the only thing that we can say about today, that has been said about every Martin O'Neill team, is that they gave 100%.
Giving 100% however isn't always enough and today we found out why. Stoke gave 110% and while on paper we have better players they had better tactics and more desire. It is simply not good enough.
We need this quality Martin O'Neill talks about because today we were desperate. Barry was playing pretty much behind the front two; it's not his position and he is to blame for the second Stoke goal.
Young, when he got the ball out wide on the left, clearly didn't want to pass inside and when going forward he never saw any movement down the channels.
Basically, Martin O'Neill was tactically beaten today and we lost. Simply not good enough.

shit shit shit shit shit shit and finally shit
Oh great, 2 games played and 5 goals conceded. Good to see the defence is on the up then.
King Carlos please help! really needed Cuellar & Sidwell today.
Barry wasn't even in the stadium. Lets just hope for progress in UEFA Cup
Oh no. Bring on the moaning your moment has come, for now at least.
Ok I'm as pi**ed off as the rest of us villians but we must stay positive! It isn't good enough and we must get better! We must put in a performance in midweek to let us forget today and then go and turn the scouse over!! This must just be a blip!!
I am ashamed of the performance. Totally worthless! Not one player performed remotely close to what one would expect.
Gonna be interesting to see what MON has to say about this..
appalling today. ghosthunter - you dont feel like moaning after that!? young was poor. gabby was poorer (his consistency has to improve this season, so far doesnt look like happening). poorest of all tho was the defense. ill look for positives and say young & shorey have had very little time playing with laursen & davies but thats scraping the barrel. shorey was bad and davies had a stinker. friedel looked woeful too.
All very well bringing in solid and/or dynamic players like Luke Young, Sidwell, Shorey and Cuellar but we need at least 2 quality, flair players in central midfield and on the right wing.
Then and only then we may be going somewhere. Enough grafters Martin, we need quality.
HAHAHAHH all you sheep we r same no of players and santa cruz was b******s same as de la red will be, NOT TOP 4 TEAM AT ALL YOU dreamersssssssssssssssssssssssss. MON is clueless OUT NOW! Unless he signs 8 great players in less than 2 weeks we are screwed to a borrrrrrrrring season. hahahahahha dreamers more like followers hehehehehehe
I wrote that at half time it was obvious we were going to lose.
ALL YOU IDIOTS THAT BELIEVE EVERY SEASON I HOPE NOW YOU FINALLY REALISE WE ARE MID TABLE MEDIOCRITY. I am starting to support my local town as villa aren't worth the time or money . i CANNOT PAY WAGES TO IDIOTs LIKE MON AND RL and all the shote players we have. Premier league top 4? hahah we just blew that by losing today absolute craaaaaaaaaaaaaaap. bleet on sheeeeeeeeeeepppppppppppppppppppp ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Appalling. No ideas or creativity in midfield. Stronger defence this year???? lol >:(
we seemed to panic in defense after shorey went off
The penalty was the wellspring for all the bad things for the Villa today, but that doesn't excuse this team's poor play the next 60 minutes. I have to think that having 6-3 Carlos Cuellar would've made a big difference today. And whoever said that this might spur MON to get some more players in, I hope you are right.
taglor, i suggest you do go and follow your local town. The Villa dont need 'fans' like you. bring on the scouse
100% agree Damian. With all due respect to Stoke. If we have any intentions of Champions League qualification, these are the types of games we need to be winning. Simply Not Good Enough is right. 9 days until The transfer window shuts, USE THEM WISELY MON. UTV!
Taglor wtf you on about ?
It was appalling today MON best give the players ( defence in particular ) a kick up the arse.
We're leaking goals all the time - like said above Agbonlahor is not consistent enough!Really need to sign decent this week. P*ssed off ryt now but wake up in the morning abit calmer and in a few days will have regained the faith
Taglor. Could you learn English and be a bit more constructive and some sort of conversation or useful debate might come from it. At the moment you sound like you've been allowed your hour on the communal PC at the asylum.
As for the game, well it's done now. 11 goals in two games, we are certainly Newcastle from the 90s. While I know it's not good enough, typically Man U start slowly, Liverpool have been poor, despite winning and all our near rivals have lost at least one game.
Let's share disgruntlement but at least not start a revolt over one game.
It looks to me another case of, if Barry doesn't play well, we don't play well.
we were utterly woeful!! mon is a pric!! get the quality players in u keep promising us u pric or just fk; off!
how anyone thinks davies is a good player is beyond me. in fact the whole of our defence yes including laursen was terrible and was terrible all of last season. sort it out oneil. we need a lot of signings of the quality we have been led to believe will come in this week otherwise godbye MON
big bad stoke! we have always strugled againts the physical teams!from the high of last week this has brought me crashing down to earthh with a bang! if you give away 3 goals to a team like stoke it meens we have a lot of work to do!
nt gd enuf!
Taglor - you really epitomise what a great supporter is. As soon as you hit a rocky patch you want to jump ship. All the times you have defended yourself as being a real fan blah blah blah, now we see your true colours. It seems to me like you were ithcing to get your excuse to throw in the towel and if one away game does it then your strength of character is not what I thought it was. Just promise you'll come back at the end of the season so you can stand up and be counted like the rest of us.
A very disapointing performance today and not what any of us were expecting but I'll bet you any money it'll happen again to us and every other team in the premiership during the course of this season. But we really, really need a right winger!!! Ohh, and for all those moaners pointing to Spurs signings during this transfer window - right back at you!!
I'm afraid this is the type of game we still lose. I'm more confident of a result against Liverpool than Sunderland. We've got to start conceding less goals - not sure if that is defending better or retaining ball more. What's with conceding last minute goal again - wasn't impressed by Brad either today
Carew was also rubbish today apart from the goal.
I know I'll get slaughtered for this but Stoke are the new Bolton, playing for long throws is embaresing
Taglor, one bad result this early on and you write the whole season off. Us 'sheep' are the TRUE supporters who follow the Villa thick and thin. You my friend are a joke, go and support the noses or something and we would'nt have to read your drivel all the time.
Back down to earth then.
I don't know what infuriates me more, this result or the ever-loveable Stevie G scoring in the fiftieth minute of injury time against Boro.
After 1 game? Iv'e been hearing the same PR Bullshite for 20 FCUKING YEARS NOW AND IT never ever changes, you all get excited and it amounts to nothing the premiership is a DEAD contest, one of the top 4 will win and it really doesn't matter which one does it as it will be the same next year. The same as ENGLAND as a team are DEAD £40 a ticket to watch that crap, football is dying I'm going to go back to grass roots at least local teams and supporters are realistic. Same old Villa always mid table same old Villa always mid table same old Taglor always light years ahead of the sheep xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
i wudnt be worrying to much about the result 2day.all our rivals were just as bad 2day including liverpool with there 94th minute winner,if torres or gerard get injured there screwed, spurs crap, everton not great.a good wake up call for pool next sunday.
This is still the type of game we lose. I am more confident of a result against Liverpool than sunderland. We must start coneding less goals, not sure if that's through better defending or better ball retention. Whats this with another last minute goal conceded. I wasn't too impressed by Brad today.
Carew was rubbish as well apart from the goal.
I know I'll get slaughtered for this but Stoke are the new Bolton - playing for long throws is embaressing
I just think we paid Stoke far too much respect with it being their first game at home. All week we have heard the first game at home sh1t. If they were fired up for it, we should have been prepared to meet them head on, not shy away from the contest! The Villa of old used to crumble to this, I thgought we had changed. Hope it is just a blip. 3 points against scouse is a must now!
Stoke style doesn't suit us it's not a big shock. I'm not that upset because I don't for a million years expect to make top four. Let's stop deluding ourselves we are in a scrap for 8 - 5 position with about six teams. Accept that obvious fact and then you can enjoy the season just like last year.
very team in the prem will have a upset sometime this season even mutd lets hope thatwas ares we ave how ever got to get a creative playr who can split the defence and we need a wide player lennon milner but its got 2 be before the 1st things will get better keep the faith p s doyle is not the answer were do pool next week
What a load on crap, 5 goals, 2 games simply not good enough considering the money that was put into the defense. Royally P*ssed off.
Taglor - Even by your depressing standards you've managed to surpass yourself. I used to read your disfunctional rantings with a hint of humour and used to see it as harmless, bad tempered Victor Meldrew-like comedy.
In fact, sometimes I even shared some of your for-the-hell-of-it bitterness when times were real tough.
Today, however, I see you as a piss poor fan who really shouldn't be allowed to have an opinion, mainly because your negativity has become predictable and very tedious.
Yes I am not happy either and I know we need to sign better players etc. etc.: but it's 2 games into a new Prem season and the transfer window is still open so why not give it a chance, see what happens first and shut the hell up for the time being?
But no, you had to step up to the challenge and once again slaughter anything claret and blue at the first opportunity, bet you couldn't wait..so predictable, taglor.
Please either come up with constructive, intelligent criticism with a justified background to it or go sharing your grim, pointless opinion with someone who actually gives a shit.
Bad games, managers and players come and go in every club but unfortunately vulture-like "fans" like you seem to stick around and are the real embarassement to any football club.
I said last week don't get carried away with a win over Man City's half a team but most were raving how we are gonna be top 4. Some dismissed me drawing attention to Abramovich's spending at Chelsea as silly but the point I was making is that these days you get in the top 4 by buying top 4 players, not the average stuff we are buying. We need a manager with the balls to buy good players. It will always be a risk but if you don't take one you get nowhere. The 5 year plan and building a squad is just an excuse for not competing in the transfer market and as for those of you who say "don't do a Leeds" it's embarassing how low your ambition is for the Villa. MON needs to stop talking blarney and get some TOP PLAYERS!
I am so annoyed & disgusted I just do not know where to start!! and the thing that annoys me the most about my post, is that I hate it when we moan about our team and now I feel like a hypocrite!
When I have calmed down I will post something a bit more constructive!
..and it's not being a sheep, you idiot: it's sticking through and through with your football club, something you'll never understand regardless of your 20 or 40 years spent whining like a bitch whenever things didn't go your way.
Go back to the grass roots, taglor - you've been promising it for ages now so for once be a man and stick to your word, good effin riddance to you.
OK now i've calmed down a bit and we have to realise it's only the second game of the season! Still doesn't disguise the fact that we were great but that's football guess. Were all gutted no matter what anyone says but on to the next game!
It's important that we don't lose against Liverpool, just make sure that the ship is steadied and we get back on our feet again. O'Neill has to dip into the transfer market now and strengthen because no one wants to hear that 'small squad' nonsense again!
We need creativity in the middle and another striker. We need players that will offer something different otherwise everything will come through Young again, and it will get predictable.
Hopefully we can move on from today and put in a good show against FH and Liverpool. Still a long way to go, let's not be too critical just yet!
taking shorey off moving l young to left back and putting NRC at right back where he clearly cannot play, leads me to one conclusion.....MON is a tactical genius...lol
Lets face it we'll get linked to Sata Cruz for 16m but buy Doyle for 6m a player that is worth 1m. Same happened with Coker 8.5m for a championship plodder.
You win fuuucck all with players like Coker, Shorey. Luke Young, Zat Knight, & Kevin Fuucking ssshitte Doyle.
MON where is the squad ??? We have no more players than last season. This is a shocking suituation & ios not exceptable. 2 games 5 goals ley in what the ffuucckk is going on.
The panic, like last week's euphoria, is premature. Stoke ran around like chickens with their heads cut off, their biggest game of the year. Gifted a lead. Villa did alright, weathered the storm, didn't look great, but the sort of football Stoke are going to play...Well, it's always going to be ugly, especially if they get a lead. I was getting sick of Villa players being clattered over all the time. You're not going to be able to play beautiful football if someone just runs you over, gives up the kick, stops play, and packs it in behind the ball. Villa were taking control, had paced themselves better, however ugly it all may have looked, and were likely 2-1 winners. Barry gives the ball away, some nutty bounce/move gets the ball by a well positioned Laursen, and the guy finishes well. Still, 2-2. Then a late, flukey winner.
All said, no, I'm not happy with the result. But there are going to be games like that. Credit to Stoke for being up for it, but it was also a thuggish performance.
Hey boys, dont make fun of Taglor, he's full of witty 'insight'.
Taglor, just fuck off, you're a tool, simple. Same for you too Jinksy.
It was a bad day yes, but they just outmuscled us and it wasn't even football. We'll always lose to sides like that and it's the way it goes. We just aren't suited for that type of footy, which is probably why Bolton beat them, but we will have no worries this season.
As for us being a mid table team, where did we finish last season Taglor, you knob?
Wow - we loose to Stoke and its the end of the world!
This was Stoke's 1st home game in the PL and its showed - they were like Bolton of old but on Steroids and Speed!! I think they would have chased, hassled and beaten most teams today.
We outplayed them under LOTS of pressure for 40mins in the 2nd half and after coming back twice, looked like we would get and played for the win.
I'm sure other teams will go there and get beat - honestly 2nd game in the season - we'll still be 4(maybe) to 6th come the end of the season.
And yeah like some have said above:
1. Taglor just go and support this other team I'm sure they'll love a fan like you!
2. How many of you are still holding up Spurs as the way to go? Their fans are already calling for Ramos's head - AND look at their FULL squad - they only have about 18 players!
I was gutted by this result but have had a beer now and im nicely chilled out about it. It was the second game of the Season, it was Stokes first in the Prem, fair play to them, whoever thinks any game in this division will be easy is mistaken. Its one we probably should have won but like has been said above, every single team will have blips this year, like every other year. This will hopefully be a good week for us now, 2 quality shinings and some back up, a confidence boosting rout on Thurs and them at home to the Pool where every single fan and player will be more up for it than any other match I can remember in recent years, including GB who will be out to rub the Liverpool chairmens faces in it for not having confidence in him as a good purchase. This is a great team, management, set of fans, and good times at Villa Park, lets not forget that after losing a close game to good opposition and give Stoke some credit. Villa till I die
Unlucky today......yes we're thuggish and yes its ugly but we got the points!!! we dont exactly play for throw-ins but when they come along we might aswell use them to our advantage. At times today we played some decent football, ok not in by your exhaulted standards but still not bad, you were out battled in the centre of the park and as a few of you have said most of your boys didn't really turn up today....could be becuase they were up all night playing cash poker in Carew's room(got a mate who works at Crewe hotel were they stopped last night)...... good luck for the season...
the only good thing i can say about today is that i got a good getaway from the ground when the last goal went in.
Our defence again had chances to get rid of the ball but patsied about.
Gabby needs rocket up his bside, LAZY just believes all of his hype.
Plus poinits possibly Petrov working hard Ashley playing on through the pain when are the refs going to start protecting players like him instead of just being conned
To JinKsy, first of all Santa Cruz has pledged his future to Blackburn and secondly, Kevin Doyle is a snip at 6 million. I've watched Doyle playing for about 5 years now and he's got a lot that modern day strikers do not have.He can play off a big man or he can play old fashioned centre forward. With the exception of one or two players, we Irish ahve always given 100% for the claret and blue and Doyle would be no different.
OK Damian please ban badger2 and mick70 for personal attacks or I will inform somebody I know who regulates websites, thank you.
Unfortunatley today highligted a few of our glaring limitations. We are a team that can finish anywhere from 5th to 12th and that is a fact and that is simply based on the players we have.
For the life of me I cannot understand MoN's obsession with Reo-Coker. I am sorry but this guy is useless. He is not a good central mifielder and he is an absolute joke at RW and RB.
Gabby and Carew did as much as they possibly could today. Strikers cannot play with the quality of ball they get....not even Pele or Maradona could.
What ticks me off is that we seem to be on the same tracks as last year -conceding goals last 5 minutes :( We lost a possible top 4 on it last year, and my bet is that we'll loose it again that way this year. Why is it they can't keep teams from scoring on them after the clock ticks 85 min? If we are to win matches we pretty much always need to be ahead by two goals at 85:00, or we'll loose points. damn it. We really need a good CM to hold the ball.
Taglor - it's a forum, opinions are shared and heated debates happen because people are passionate about this football club.
The difference is that most on here don't feel necessary to adopt a standardised mood switched on the "moan like a bitch" mode.
Call all the regulators you like - you remain a whiney, predictable, unsatisfied tool.
Taglor, there is no law against 'personal attacks' online.
Can anyone come onto this website and say that people cannot make personal comments about other contributors? That would surely be a shame as this would attack people's rights to say what they want.
Sorry Taglor but your first comment was not meant as a constructive argument but an attack on people who trust MON in the long run. Am I a sheep, I doubt it. Today I was sure we were going to win but played poorly and lost. We could have played poorly and won! Would that have changed MON into a manager with a clue?
You can't have it both ways. 1 win 1 lose. Here's what I hope, this gets MON to gee up the side for next week and we play well against Liverpool. What do you hope for Taglor?
I have just realised that I am a Woulfe in sheeps clothing. A metaphor there I think.
from the guardian:
"a reverse pass from Ashley Young after a cleverly delayed one-two and advancing unopposed to beat Sorensen with a low shot. It looked so easy that one wondered why Villa had not tried passing round the Stoke defence before"
says it all really. barry was poo too.
Let's all give up and support Taglor Town Unathletic in the Pukka Pies West Midlands Thursday night five a side league.
letting in five goals in the first two games is worrying. I didn't think Mon was the kind of manager to go through an 'experimental' phase but I hope it ends soon.
I've just seen the Fulham - Arsenal game, and in many ways, Arsenal are in a similar situation to Villa, in that, with their current squad, they're going to struggle to finish in the top 4. The only players they were missing today were Fabregas and Rosicky (and he misses plenty of games anyway), and yet they deservedly lost to a Fulham side who were hardly amazing, and even played for about 25 minutes in the 2nd half with ten men (Murphy's legs last about 55 minutes). It was one game, and yes by all accounts we were poor, and yes, there were familiar shortcomings. But the defence is still bedding in, and there will be an improvement there. And there need to be a couple more top quality signings. If these don't materialise, then given the state Arsenal are in, and the mediocrity of Liverpool, it will be a real opportunity to finish in the top 4 wasted. No quality signings equals good reason to be critical. 2 quality signings, and we'll be pushing hard for the top 4.
wa a game.........4 a stokie
an i am a stokie so get in
ope all the other teams r as easy as you
your not singing anymore
CUM ON STOKE!!!!!!!!!!
TAGLOR IS A PRICK
Look we score goals for fun. We give it a good go! We have a few good players waiting in the wings and we may buy more. Spurs have lost two, Arsenal lost at Fulham. It really isn't the end of the world.
The problem is we haven't bought in early enough and it will take time to settle into a system. But for the people who are disgusted etc. Get a life! You really are pathetic if you can't handle this kind of set back.
Not seen the game so cant really comment on how we played, but Stoke was always going to be a banana skin, after a 3-1 kicking from bolton on the opening day and the bookies stunt they would have a point to prove, unfortunately they caught us on a very bad day. We haven't really got out of first gear yet, give it time, we will!
It sounds like our defence were poor, well that'll take time to gel anyway with the new blood and we still have new players to come in anyway, the result last weekend flattered us, Gabby realised he can actually put some effort in and treated us to 7 whole minutes of it, this week he didnt by the sounds of things.
I was at that game by the way and I can comment - we were average.
Dont want to slate the boys until I see the highlights, but they need to step it up quickly if we are going to stay in Europe and challenge in the league.
Brought us back to earth with a bump dint it! :o
On the positive side at least MON may well realise the current squad really does need strengthening....not that he should not have already realised that....
The worst bit for me was those frickin scouse shitters won in the last ten seconds and Gareths 'Chum' scored...Ahhhhhh >:(
taglor.....I know your a sheep really..your just wanting to cause upset so you can have some credibility in the forum for some 'Karma'.. ;D
Badger2 - Who you telling to Fuucckkk off ppprriiiicccck.
I state facts, Our squad is tiny MON said he would put it right well we are 2 games in and our squad is the same size. Has the quality improved? not realy and we will buy Kevin Fuuccking Doyle mark my words.
We need 8 players and 5 of them need to play. Coker, Zat Knight, L Young, Shorey, Routledge are simply not top 4 players & you can add Harewood & Petrov to that list.
So take your Villa Tinted specs off KNNNOB HEAD.
why did we play NRC on the right where he clearly isn`t happy there and then move l young to left back and NRC right back, lets judge mon on september the 1st lets just hope he brings the quality in he keeps talking about
8 days togo until the window closes so lets just hope mon brings in the quality he keeps talking about UTV
2 new goalkeepers, 2 new full backs, a new center back... we are gonna fix lasts seasons defensive problem... yeah right.... pants.... complete and utter pants
wow...a couple of fans on here really dont understand how football works at all!one loss out of two and your calling for the managers head!!!!reading these comments have actually made me laff and kind of cheered me up after a crappy result!!...awfull display toady but some good ponits...stoke would not let us play after they scored and yes its not good enuf but it is also the 23rd of september!!!haha....comedy...i love this blog!
[url]LINK
I don't know what your all worrying about..Click on the link above which shows that MON is rebuilding his team with new quality players before the transfer window closes. :D
HAAHAAH so easy to wind up just like a clockwork mouse. All you can come back with is swears haha, last season we finished 3 points away from 10th I think it's shit, yes it's progression but after 20 years I just want to win things enough with building weve had long enough, just to wind you up more I am still a fan so I can enjoy it and say I supported Villa just as much as you if we won anything and until then I can say what I like ahahah so there you IDIOTS Villa are POOOOOOO dreary mid table boredom and if we win I still get to enjoy it hahahahah
Taglor- I saw a team called Instituion in the Welsh results today, sounds like you should check them out. I dont understand your mentality, do you get any joy from watching the Villa at all? And if your a fan why spend half your time winding fellow fans up? Your entitled to opinions like anyone but why not try making some constructive critisisms?
Ahh.
The joy of football.
Bring on the bin dipppers.
taglor.... you're a d**k. try this site- www.bcfc.co.uk
seriously, i agree, we did have a bad game. But at the end of the day, just look at some of the results today, shocking, fulham beating arsenal, sunderland beating spurs. Its one game it isnt the end of the world. As our great captain so elegantly put it, we are conceeding goals, and that is an area that O'Neil, will be sure to try and stop being a constant issue! You have to remember these players still need some time to gel! Thankfully, we have the ability to score! we have till sept 1st, when we will hopefully sign a right winger and a striker, (which we need by god! as i went to our opening game againt city, wayhay btw! Carew, has his moments of brilliance, but he is so lazy, unless it was planted on his head, he just wouldnt try!)
Just being realistic, i dont think we will finish top 4, but why not give it a damn good try, we have the ability to hurt teams, and cause all sort of problems! Hopefully Barry will stay, and with the sage now drawing to a close, will be able to concentrate a 110% on his game! UP THE VILLA!
martin where was plan b.
make some changes during the game be brave, and dont just hang on hoping for a point from a game we should have won easily on paper anyway, the best defence is attack.
spend randys 25 mil on a world class midfielder asap, not three mediocre castoff's.
today was not top four quality, you cannot keep using ashley as the only outlet its so predictable.
Keep a little faith, yes we might not finish 4th, but we will give it a damn good try!
Also, just seen that Scolari is willing to trim his squad, possibly allowing us to get SWP or if O'Neil can really work his magic, which if im honest i cant see happening, Villa havent reached that level yet, but Joe Cole, but it is feasible if Robinho arrives, which is now becoming an increasing possibility! and if this did happen it would certainly be that quality that we need! UP THE VILLA!
URGENT MESSAGE TO MON - SPEAK TO John Beck- He knows how to play the Long Ball, Long Throw In teams - He used his tactics with Cambridge United almost get into the first ever Premier League until the opposition (and I mean every team they played)learned how to play against it. I'm sure he'll share his information with you, If not i'll tell you now. When in defensive positions and needing to clear the ball you need to aim it at the attacker bearing down on you. Then when it goes out (most of the time) you win rather than concede posession at the resulting throw in. No long throw in the 94th minute - no winning goal for Potters.
Im at a loss, i really am.
Reading some of the doom and gloom stuff above is hilarious.
This was Stokes biggest game for fifty years......its the start of the season, when fitness levels are low, weve spent around twenty million on a new back line, and we are frigging moaning?
Most of the posts above do not understand football, its not a PC game, otherwise Rotherham would be league champions every year!!
Stoke WILL be relegated, and this result WILL be forgotten, because i will wager anyone that we do not finish below last seasons 6th place.
Stop knocking and get behind the boys!!!!
well the doom and gloom merchants are here again the season has only just started ok, we didnt play well but lets face it we aint going to win every game not many teams do we just have to put this behind us and look forward to the next game i,m sure we can only get better. And lets face it it was always on the cards that the first team to play stoke at there place was going to loose, it just happened to be the villa.
I think with basically a new defense, we were always going to struggle to start the season off. I hope that they get that sorted out, though. This reminds me of some of our games last year where we'd score 10 in two games then lose at Fulham or lose at home to Wigan. I think some of the younger players start to buy their own press.
Only one game. Very disappointing result, but I still think we'll finish Top 6.
and before you sheep TRY and blaze me.........i was there at Stoke' back to normal disgracful preforemance, complete rubbish, Effing Stoke !! as i said MON is a complete waste of space... come on you sheep ... defend thet sh*t .......... baaaaaah baaaaaah bbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh.... fcuking STOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you come on this site and say we done well..............or..as hormal BATTLING prefrormance YOUR NOT PURE VILLA FANS........end off.......i WAS THERE, UTTTER GARBAGE!!.........RUBBISH X X X!
Badger2 u should go and follow table tennis or some other wanker type of sport because you obviously haven't a clue about football. Ye all bought into last weeks great win againest the mighty city where againest a team with no strikers we conceeded 2 goals. We play one of the worst teams we will play this year and our long ball bullshit tactics don't work. What a shock. Tell me the last team that has finished top 4 playing that long ball crap football? Open your eyes. MON is a twat stuck back in 1997 managing Leicester. How can he take off a fb to bring on a rw just to ensure that his pet petrov stays on the pitch. A billionairne owner managed by a pound shop manager.
Why don't ye have some real ambition for this club?? Its like watching Wimbeldon. open your fucking eyes. We are nothing but long ball merchants buying average players but sure as long as their english and some wanker of a journalist mentions that in an article thats ok. We have the money to buy so whats been holding us back??? MON thats what. Too many loser fans that are happy to accept being mediocre for the next ten years again. Get some ambition. The top 4 is achieable but not by the means that Mr time warp is using.
AK27 - Agree with most of you're post but don't think that crazy substitution was to keep petrov on...no no no no it was to keep one of the worst players i've ever seen in a Villa shirt on Nigel (WHAT THE FUUCK DOES HE DO EVEN WHEN PLAYING IN THE CENTRE) Coker, He is absalut sshhiiitt.
Petrov, Nigel Reo-Joker, Zat Knight, Shaun Maloney, Marlon Harewood, Shorey, Luke Young, Salifu....All signed by MON....All players he would have signed for Leicester City......WE ARE ASTON VILLA. Don't bull shhitt us Martin ( i will sort out the tiny squad as we took a gamble in January) well the tiny squad is tiny still except we have put a few stocking fillers in to replace the dead wood that left. WHERE IS OUR MAIN PRESENT??? The quality??? You paid 6m for luke Young are you off your head?? Middlesbrough must have been pissinggg themselves. They replace this average player for half the price & get a young up & coming potential England player. You try & fool us by bidding for players you know won't come or bidding not enough knowing the bid will be turned down what is that all about?? Walsall could bid not enough for Ronaldo or even bid enough for him because they know he wouldn't go there. Would their fans think how ambisious Walsall were being??? No they would think they are having the pisss taken out of them. Well MON if we have not got at least 5 TOP QUALITY new players in by 1st Sept you will have us fans turn on you & Mr Learner because we aint Leicester City we are ASTON VILLA with a billionaire chariman who aint spent a penny yet & before people throw figures at me Aston Villa has generated through record Sky money, Record gates & record shirt sales loads more money than Learner has spent on a pub, a training ground & on transfers.
I forgot to add the dynamic Wayne hare you taking the pisssss Routledg....Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa waht a world beater he is.........Saying that next to Reo-Joker i look a world beater..or is that a wife beater...haaaaaaaaaa
Taglor - seems to me like you're trying to back pedal a little on your first post. I'm not surprised to be honest and I guess I can understand that your initial post was heat of the moment etc. It's not easy is it?? I think even Andyanarchist baulked at being too negative on the back of the barrage of abuse you were taking.
Vogra - I'll defend our performance when you've defended your stance on top 6 finish last season and qualification to the UEFA cup - it's a bad form from us but we're three points from the top of the table (or, as Taglor would view it, three points from bottom) - get a grip man!!
AK27 - Long ball tactics?? Look back at the goals we've scored in the last two games!! You're criticising people for 'buying in' after the one win against City (which I actually don't think many people realistically did) and yet you're expecting everyone to buy in to your theories after one loss against Stoke - open your eyes, calm down and have some optimism.
It's all good fun.
IQ27, sorry, ak27, there's very little you say that is factually correct. Why don't you come back at me with some facts and try string them together into a logical conclusion? Don't worry I will check back at Christmas.
Very dissapointed with the performance....but seriously
We need a RM..NOW!!! Reo-Coker cannot ply RM! we are becoming really easy to predict where we are going to attack (Left Win with Youngy)He is class but he needs some help.
Gabby had a shocker
Did Gaz Baz even show up?
Lets just hope we destroy Harfnarfjodur...Please MON get Milner or Wright-Phillips...NOW!
I thought Barry only went missing against decent teams, now hes doing it against Stoke?! We had our chance to upgrade, but i have a feeling this DLR bid was just a PR stunt. Im not having a dig at you Damo by the way, as the bid may well have been placed, but there was probably little intention to follow through with it on the clubs behalf. Anyway, the only way i knew he was taking part in the game was when he made that blunder which led to the goal. He simply is not an attacking midfielder, end of. He is a great player but why do we play him as an AMF? I think that was a huge part in yesterdays game personally. Our midfield was hounded by a spirited Stoke team who played a near perfect match against a highly fancied Villa, thanks to great managing and relentlessness. If we had a player who can create something we would have found things a little easier. There was nothing doing in our midfield today. Ok defence was average at best, but if we had created more chances, or even a chance, we could have made more of a fist of things. Yes we are missing Sidwell and Cueller and may well bring in Milner and Doyle, but how would any of these players, bar Cueller possibly, helped with this performance? We need a couple of quality signings to help us get on top in games like this. Look at Liverpool last week and this week. Two different superstars coming through with the goods, they are still player shit football but they are undefeated. Enough with the shit signings already. Get a couple of aces in or we will continue to drop points like this. MON would be a very embarrassed man today being totally taken to school by Pulis tactically.
It amazes me how some fans search for any deperate dreg of hope looking at teams doing worse than AV just to call fans that say what they see are moaners
Jinksy I luv your posts.
Someone not affraid to challenge the Club. Most of the fans did not have the Bottle to fight for the club when it wa going down the Pan with Doug.
Yes we do have a future now & Randy has done a lot.
But we have less of a say now than we have had at any time in the clubs history.
The fans that were fighting have in the main have sold out to the Yanks PR
Good on you Jinksy
2 years looking for Fullbacks
Our Team is shut out if they can shut down Ashley
Why are we still so 1 dimetional
Teams that just come up always feel awesome in their first couple of home games (until they get used to losing). Stoke scored from a penalty (Gabby should've had one earlier anyway), their one piece of quality in the whole game (from an abysmal Barry giveaway, which doesn't happen too often), and a long throw-in that was headed blindly backwards into the net. Three goals looks bad, but Stoke only had three shots on goal the entire game (Villa only had 2, but shhh I'm concentrating on defense).
Villa dominated possession, but unlike the top four teams, they are not used to facing teams who score one goal and then sit back and try and score on counter-attacks. Basically, they are not used to being a vastly superior team than another team. Villa ARE a quality side, and despite their lack of depth, I really think they can get into the top four this season, IF they get a solid right midfielder. Reo-Coker doesn't cut it there.
Fatkev - you forgot to metion the Trinity Rd seats.
Sob! wot a shambles. I think they had nextSunday on their mind.
Didn't get to Stoke (thankfully) but watched it on Canal Sport.
All this doom and gloom and it's only the 2nd match . Bet the Gooners haven't given up yet.
this result shows were league's away from 4th place...but as this is probably Stokes FA CUP FINAL,BIGGEST GAME IN THE LAST 10 YEARS all rolled into 1 then this result is not suprising, i knew we'de lose this game... and i said a few posts ago we missed a trick by not signing Djrill Cisse from Sunderland, why the hell MON didnt try and get him is beyond me, he is a quality goalscorer and will score at least 15 goals a season.........We lucked out last week against Man City, our defence is fckuing awful at the moment...We are crying out for a good centre forward to play alongside Carew...and lads, i hope Gabbys hat-trick has'nt blinded to think he's actually good...he lucked out again, i will g'tee he wont do sh*t for the next 5 games.. i want the MON to expalin now WHY we can't sign a right winger, mark my words, the right winger situation will be our argument the same as our right back problem last season... BAHHH BAHHH BLACK SHEEP HAVE YOU ANY WOOL....
It was awful, our defence was all over the place we was the better footballing side going forward but they were physically stronger and we couldnt compete.
Gabby was shocking as was Young, Barry didnt look like he wanted to be there, Carew's first touch resembled that of a donkey (ok he scored but did nothing else for the other 89 mins). the only positive thing to come out of it was Petrov who was superb in midfield.
It was a horrible day from the start. It took 3 hours to get there on the packed M6 then couldnt park anywhere in that poxy retail park as every car park close to the ground needed a ticket to enter that only the home fans had. Then on leaving the ground we had to listen to the 6 finger brigade chanting as though they had just won the league.
One word for this morning - Sick.
really think we should forget nabout yesterdays performance and get off the players backs!!! look around at other teams who have spent BIG MONEY on so called BIG players robbie keane is hardly setting anfield alight up to now, modric doesnt seem to be helping spurs much, alves of the borough all these players were bought for big money and up to now all be it early days aint living up to the hype!! but i'm sure as i am about our signings given time they will come good. dont go writing our season off on one result!!! we'll have further upsets throughout the season as will every team in the prem, but mark my words we'll also have games where we can be very proud of our villa!!!! UP THE VILLA KEEP THE FAITH!!!!
tonky17
but we're not exactly buying players of that calibre are we. we're buying 'nearly players' and martin o'neill is hoping he can get a little extra out of them
i dont think anyone is writing off the season but the football yesterday was embarrassing. i could have told martin o'neill how stoke were going to play yesterday before kick off but it appeared to be a surprise to him during the first half
but how the other team play is a factor but not as much as how we play and we're still not really seeing any sort of tactic, after 2 full seasons, of how the team is going to play apart from work really really hard and pass to young
well at least we're not Spurs fans, they must be proper screwing now....great start to the season.....(HAND CLAPS) well done Bentley you've certainly moved ur career on you fcuking bell-end, ok...back to our shi*t team, i'm not going to bi*ch to much about this result, as i said this is Stokes first game in the Premiership at home and we hit them at the wrong time... Where's De La Red??????.oh, right...he's going to leave arguably the best side in the world to come to the midlands?? wahahahahahaha oh my god, did any of you really think that was going to happen..I've got three spaces in my car...by the way i'm going to Bridgend if anybody wants to come with me....nice place..
Lots of doomsday blogs after one loss. I agree that with some that this is too premature. A couple of things a lot seem to be overlooking.
1. Our defence is gonna be suspect for weeks at least. We have two new full backs and when Cuellar comes in no matter how good he is, we will have three out of four of a new back line. It takes time to gel.
2. We do need quality but we will be very lucky to get the kind of players that people are suggesting. MON has bought people who don't demand immediate champions league football and that is why they are just decent and not world class. It doesn't matter how much money RL has, its the players desires to be at top four clubs that stops us getting them. I think he has bought well considering. Lots of clubs were interested in Cuellar and Shorey and Young are certainly an upgrade on Bouma and Gardner.
3. I know the squad we have is more or less the same size BUT the players we have lost barely played for us last season. Berger and Maloney? No loss. Mellberg is the only one we will miss. The general quality of our squad is certainly improved.
4. We would all like to see Villa playing a more attractive style but I think MON has a decent mix of direct and short play. Against some teams you need the directness and without it you end up like Arsenal, unable to score anything but glamour goals and losing to Fulham.
5. Last thing. The Premiership is getting SO much better with all the money and foreign talent. It is a credit to MON and RL that, not only have we kept pace, but we are actually finishing 6th in a league that has got this good. If we were the team of a couple of years ago last season, we would have been relegated.
Hope somebody agrees. Its been the best time as a Villa fan I can remeber under MON and RL and anyone who doesn't think this is a better era than O'Leary really needs to think back clearly.
Fatkev, Vogra, Jinksy, ak27, nan was a fan, andyanarchist, damian, thank goodness for you guys or I would lose the plot and at least we have a laugh too!! :) ;D
simply not good enough. and why are some of u saying it will take time for the defence to settle??? you are the same people that have defended MON in the transfer market. its completely his fault if he had brought players in prior to pre season and given them time to settle it wouldnt be such an issue would it!! But he didnt and he still hasnt addressed glaring probelms in our squad. This is not me saying this this is MON himself. where is the quality and quantity he keeps talking about. 7 days left and we still dont have it!!
we have an average squad that overachieved last year and finished 6th but only 3 points above 10th. we wont finish any higher than 8th this year. 5 year plan my arse!!
BAHH BAHH MON SHEEP HAVE YOU ANY WOOL..
YES SIR YES SIR GHOSTHUNTER FULL...
ONE FOR THE MASTER AND ONE.....fcuk, forgot the rest....
Ghosthunter by the way i do respect your views... time to go on You-Tube and watch Starfleet...haha, any of you muther fcukers remember that sh*t??? Channel 4 Sunday??? its the bolloc*|s... then a bit of Jayce and the wheel warriors..love that sh*t back in the day..and that other puppet program with Zelda in....noughts and crosses at the end.....Id rather have Zelda manager at Villa Park than MR MUPPET O'NEILL
id love Zelda in charge at Villa Park, she could bring back legends such as Phil King and Bryan Small, i recon she's had them frozen, just like Demolition Man...bring them back to save our defence....
Vogra - you really do seem to have a fetish with sheep.
I respect your opinion too. It's just that you're always wrong and I'm always right - in my opinion ;)
Damian - maybe we should have some kind of guestimator page as to where each person thinks we'll finish along with a short comment. Then at the end of the season we'll have one blog entry to all look back at and see who predicted what and why and then let the games commence. Think it'd be great for us to all rip each other to shreds with backup evidence and give us something else to do other than just watch for transfer gossip.
The one notable difference to last years defence is that its all down to size
olaf, curtis, martin, and freddie looked so big and the boltons and stokes of this world could not boss our lads
this years back four size wise remind me of the odreary days when martin was injured and we played three fullbacks across the back four and leaked goals from set plays and balls into the box
Yesterday the back four allowed the stoke attack to push them inside the six yard box every long throw Brad really needed to come and punch everything but he was not comanding as he was against city
Yesterdays decision to switch young to left fullback was naieve to say the least barry was having a bad day and should have been switched to left back when wayne came on and why didnt we give sali a chance yesterday or did what we did at everton and put on five forwards and camped in stokes half
anyway enough moaning
i will be on eurostar next sunday for the grudge match
theres only one song next week to the tune of keep the red flag flying high
from stanly park to villa park
stick your red flag up your a**se
up your a*se up your a*se
stick your red flag up your a*se
from stanly park to villa park
stick your red flag up your a*se
up the villa
taglor......I'm not sure I would try and get me 100% in your camp I do agree with some of your rantings.....Your first post was however way beyond decency as a Villa Fan....? ;)
Ghosthunter....Was not sure what you were trying to say above with my view of taglors rantings? I'll say this....As you know I'm certainly not one to hold my thoughts back and I ain't no lemming...either for the 'sheep' or 'moaners' camp...I am my own man......I do respect the likes of taglor in some respect and I also repsect the likes of yourself for your wholehearted support of the team and always seeing the positive side. The fact is I don't feel I'm set in my ways and I can turn it on or off with my viewpoint (don't get me wrong I don't always sing when were winning and be a glory supporter)
Anyway I'm getting bored with this now...We lost (it should a forgone conclusion we should be winning these games easily if we are to compete with the top 4)...There's lessons to be learned but move on......Should we take this back to the 'sheep or moaners and whingers' thread in the forum... ;D
Plus Tonebone, sorry mate forgot!
Starfleet had the best opening song and the female commander was pretty scary.
along as MON relies on british talent(or lack of)then we will never move forward.do we even have any european talent scouts!easy job from look of things!
watching villa is like watching england, frustrating!
yeah taglor, i would have boned her though if i had a chance.. By the way, off the subject slightly....as a kid did anybody get a boner watching Cheetara out of Thundercats??...... id pay proper dollar if they could put Lion-O up front with Carew..better than that over-rated waste of space Gabby
I knew this was going to happen. i had even talked about it with a colleague at work who is a stokie ( geat now i have to face him when i go back on Tue) I told him that the villa's problem is that we rely too much on the left...... and i was right..... young was bullied off the pitch, Barry looked like he was thinking of liverpool..... so there went our attacking threat...... it also sowed that Aggy sucks at this level........ but i hope this loss showed MON what we need.... a right midfielder for balance.... come on you can't get away with NRC in that position....... we also need a goalscorer...... aggy just aint up to it as i didn't even see much of him...... was he there???...... Carew was good, but aint our top goalscorer we need....... so come on its 7 days left and we still need players, but i don't see any thing happening!
Just heard on TalkSport that Sean Wright-Phillips in Goodison-bound. Apparently it'll be all over tomorrow's back pages.
This blog is not showing all the posts again, sort it out please
Yet another season of mediocrity beckons. The jury's still out on MON - can he cut in the Premier League ? We ain't got time to slowly build a squad like he did at Leicester and Celtic. He needs to shed his principles and spend some of Randy's money on big name achievers. That's our ticket to the Top Four !
SWP .... Another player MON could have secured ! :-(
ok 2 game splayed 5 conceded a defeat to stoke an i am still really jarred of about it. but atlest we are not spurs!! wonder wot bentley, modric an dos santos are thinkin they hav joined?
entire reading festival laughed when the result came through, how small did I feel wearing my villa shirt...
Whats with all this bollocks! We lose one game where we still score twice and people are sayin fuck off MON? Fuck that sunday supporters go off to chelsea if thats what yer lookin for!!
Forever faith in MON!
Totally agree with you mate, these are the fans that start the boos when your 1-0 down, these are the fans that walk out when the team most need them, these my friend are not fans these are my friend are disillusioned people!
Keep the Faith, Up The Villa
Villan 4 Life!
