Solano contract talks to begin at Christmas

Thursday, 18 August 05, 04:24 PM · Comments (0)

David O'Leary today said that there was no need to begin contract talks with Nolberto Solano immediately, stating that he thinks the player is happy at the club.

The 30-year-old winger has been subject to recent enquiries from Liverpool and Newcastle and can sign a pre-contract agreement from the 31st of December, when he will enter the last 6 months of his contract.

O'Leary said "I think he is genuinely happy here. I don't think we have to start talking to him about a new contract yet. What we will do is judge it around Christmas time."

Despite the manager's instincts, this looks a bit of a dangerous move as any talks could be scuppered by interest from other clubs offering the former Peruvian International a lucrative deal or Champions League football.

Let's hope O'Leary doesn't mess this up, as I think Solano has another season in him after this at least.
