Splashing the cash on Bosingwa

Monday, 13 August 07, 03:18 AM · Comments (34)

This is still speculation only because the club haven't denied it but from what we understand Martin O'Neill is going to meet the valuation for Porto right back Jose Bosingwa.

It is thought that Martin O'Neill was wanting to pay around £3mn. but will now have to up that to at least £6mn. if he wants to get his man.

The club are also fuelling the rumour fires this morning but running with a story titled, Signings This Week? I've not actually read the story as I'm pretty sure it's going to be a few old quotes and a rehashed story.

Anyway, since we told you about Jose Bosingwa back on July 3rd the club haven't denied it and the club are desperate for a right back despite Craig Gardner having a very good match at the weekend.

So, as the official site is saying; expect signings this week. That's more than one.

Good news if true, although imagine the guy will need time to settle in even when he arrives.

Sniejder deal will not be happening, Madrid have agreed a £18M deal with Ajax for him this morning, ah well...

I really think we need a replacement for Petrov - he just doesnt create anywhere near enough.

TON23 Wrote: | 15.07BST | Aug 13, 2007

i think petrov should be dropped for a few games give him a kick in the arse and prove hes not always first choice if he dont start producing decent performances time to experiment with rotation and tactical formations, i think gardner has the potential to be our steven gerrard

It's madness we sold davis after petrov's performance... Who would we replace him with now?

I hope we bring in davies and bosingwa this week, our defense looked dodgy as.

Luke
Luke Wrote: | 15.21BST | Aug 13, 2007

Davis was quality against Arsenal too from what I saw on MOTD2 last night.

Petrov is a bit dirty like that and I wasn't surprised that such stupity was rewarded with a goal for the other team.

Petrov doesn't cut it for me or add much more than Davis, if anything.

Luke
Luke Wrote: | 15.23BST | Aug 13, 2007

We also need a top quality centre midfielder because NRC and Petrov looked a bit out of their depth. I know it's Liverpool and they're a class side, but we need to be at least competitive in that department and we were a bit lightweight.

Hopefully we'll get better but we were half a yard behind sometimes. Steve Finnan looked class in their defence at full-back, as Gardner did.

I think our defence was ok yesterday, except for Laursen. Why did he play if he was ill?

I'm gutted that Hughes and Davis played wicked on Sunday!
But hey, we had the same situation with Crouch, Vassell (for about a game) and D. James
I've never seen Bosingwa play but he's meant to be a big player in Portugal.
I would've preferred Nicky Hunt from Bolton or Vanden Borre from Anderlecht but hey, a player is a player, if he does a good job then he'll be a fan favourite.

"signings this week?" just read the article on the OS and yep, just a load of regurgetated crap that we've heard a million times before!

Again, beleive nothing till you see it!

All I hope, is that in desperation, he doesn't sign anybody who is not good enough.
I agree with most of the people that MON has got rid of. Always thought there were 2 many weak players in the team.
How come Ridgewell was made captain for the blues?

Anyway, I did not expect Villa to beat Liverpool (they are a class team).
I was pleased that we gave them a game.
One thing I can't understand is why did he play Laursen and Carew if they were ill.
I don't think Villa will finish any higher than 10th this year.

at Dizzy .. i think Hughes is injured but Davis did play okay from what i saw and from what i've read ...

TON23
TON23 Wrote: | 15.32BST | Aug 13, 2007

id switch carew to midfeild and play young and gabbi up front so my midfeild for newcastle would be ------------gardner----------carew--------------barry---------berger
i just think that carews passing and hold up play along with tackling is far greater than nrc and petrov we need possitive determination not flair we need a quick fix solution b4 we start building our 5 yr plan etc... we got basis now correct past problems b4 we can move forward

Also it looks like the official site is as p*ss*d off as we are with the rumours page as they seem to have dropped it! Or is that coz there is no one left to be linked with???

Petrov is a liability. Doesnt get stuck in and looses the ball as he doesnt get the time and space he did in jockland.

Would love to see gardner 1st choice in the midfield if we sort out the RB position

AVFCNeil
AVFCNeil Wrote: | 15.41BST | Aug 13, 2007

What's the point of Petrov? I think he's had enough chances to show that he's good enough and IMHO he is way short of the standard we need to push for a European place. I've heard of "box to box" midfielders but he is a "box to half way line" player.Just watch the number of times the ball goes past him during a game.

Hopefully, when we get a right back we can have a midfield of Barry, NRC and Gardner. At least Gardner shows some creativity.

Woz
Woz Wrote: | 15.53BST | Aug 13, 2007

Couldnt agree more - get Petrov out and Gardner in the middle with NRC

monsoon Wrote: | 16.54BST | Aug 13, 2007

A good right back will do for starters. We were second best in the air alot on saterday in many parts of the game. Luke More should have started and then Carew to come on as sub but Martin has the experience to sort it out. If we don't sign at least four more internationals I'll be a nervous wreck when we play small heath!!

About time MON stopped worrying about finances. So he has to pay a bit over the odds. Who cares? We've got the money!RL wont let him overspend (billionaires are the tightest people on earth, thats why they are billionaires!)MON needs to realise he's not at Leicester now. He's got a budget lets see him use it! Boswinga i've said all summer is quality and think a lot of people agree, lets get him in and stop quibbling over a million or two! Come on MON give me a reason to restore my faith in you!

Wes
Wes Wrote: | 23.14BST | Aug 13, 2007

Can someone please explain to me why we are struggling to sign players? Is it MON being fussy about the price(when we have millions to spend) or is it the fact that players just don't want to play for us!

I love the villa to bits but like most i am disapointed in the lack of motivation to push us to the next level. We are being overtaken by clubs like Newcastle and Portsmouth.

come on Villa. Show us what you can do!!!!!

Football-rumours.com has a comment re Villa signings this week, which if true look good:
Davies, Riise, El Hadji Diouf.

What a shame on Sat, an unlucky og and a cheated free kick goal. Mind you the pen seemd a bit harsh! I seems like we took three steps forward during the pre-season, and two steps backwards against the pool.
