Spurs lead the pack in race for Ashley Young

Aston Villa target Ashley Young looks set to sign for Spurs after Villa had an opening offer of £6.9mn rejected.

Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd is reluctant to sell however it is believed he has already lined up a replacement for attacking midfielder with some of the £9mn. he expects to get.

Spurs are the favourites to sign the player as it is thought he would like to stay close to home, but Martin O'Neill is not giving up hope and a further offer is expected in the next 48 hours.

If the offer is accepted it will open to door for Martin O'Neill to spend some time with the youngster and convince him that a bright future awaits him in claret and blue.
