Reading midfielder Steve Sidwell is out of contract in the summer and although the January transfer window only closed a few short days ago the rumours are starting up again.
Sidwell is considered one of the better players at Reading and the club owe much of their success this season to the player. Sidwell wants to talk to the club's hierarchy to assess their ambition.
I'd have thought that the amount of money they are planning to spend on the stadium and the fact they're currently sitting in a European place is ambition enough, but he probably wants more cash.
It's a fairly cynical view point but he probably knows he can get a lot more at another club, especially if he is leaving on a Bosman, so when you read 'assess their ambition' you should probably read 'how much are you going to offer me to stay'.
Still, he is the type of player that Martin O'Neill likes and he could probably do a job, I'd have had him in January and I'd have him in the summer, just wouldn't like it if he only came for the cash.

I would like sidwell
He's exactly the kind of player we need. He was awesome against us at the start of the season, and they only had ten players for most of the match. I really hope the big guns don't express an interest as he is top draw.
Sidwell is a good player but i think we could get someone better. However i went to watch the reserves last night against Fulham (good win) and there was a youngster playing called Albrighton (i think). I hope with all these new players expected to be coming in we don't over look the talent coming through the youth system.
Sidwell is a quality player and would add to our squad, when they played at our place earlier this season he was lively, put the tackles in and distributed the ball all over the pitch, the fact he is available on a free should make this a no-braner!
