Thank you Smiler and goodbye

Friday, 08 June 07, 06:13 AM · Comments (19)

Smiler McCann is off to join Bolton for £2,000,000 and if you want my opinion this is excellent business.

We've figured out that everything is pure speculation until the deal is done these days so this might be nothing but according to the Express & Star, it should be announced today.

Smiler has played 129 games for Villa and scored fie goals. At the start of the season just gone he looked like his game had developed under O'Neill but it was short lived and he soon reverted back to the Smiler we have all come to know so well.

Getting £2mn. for him, if it happens, is excellent business and I'm sure he'll do a job for Bolton, but I think they'll struggle next season under Sammy Lee. Something Smiler is used to.

Anyway, if it is true there will be some sad to see him go but I expect most will agree with me that it's good business and as Aston Villa we should be after better players.

Which one's he going to? Wigan or Bolton?
Personally, I think that getting £2million back for him is a good deal and I wish him the best of luck.

Excellent deal. Not good enough and £2m is good enough. Bolton must be crazy to think that McCann and Samuel will improve them.

When are players coming in???????

Do Bolton fancy helping themselves to the Djemba's while they're taking all our crap off of our hands!

I'd be interested to know what Bolton fans thought. £1m is the alledged price tag, still good business for someone of his abilities.

Someone tell them Hendrie and DJ2 are available!

With Smiler gone MON must have new players coming in, we hope!

Skysports just anniuced he has signed a 3 year deal, but nothing about the fee.
IMO we wouldn't let players go from our 'small' squad unless there was a few guranteed signings on the way.
Im happy to sit and wait, as i'd rather spend the next few weeks/months waiting than get panick buys in at stupidly inflated prices. Let the West HAm's of this world waste their money on money grabbers, we need quality if we are going forward, and MON knows what he is doing!!!

Up the Villa

thank god MON has realised that aston villa would not have been abl;e to move forward without releasing arguably our worst player and consistent contributer to inept footballing displays

Another step to progression. To be honest i think McCann would be a good signing for Bolton. But for the Villa he was to incnsistant and lacks to ability for were the Villa are heading, i'm predicting that Villa will finish 5th next season.

Lots of people seem to be beginning to doubt our transfer kitty as we haven't signed anyone. Would we have spent £4m renovating the Holte Hotel if there wasn't a substantial amount of money available for transfers... If we had a small pot of money we would have left the Holte Hotel derelict. Renovating that is just part of the whole process to get us back to where we belong. The club is on the up and we must have loads of money available for players. We're clearing out the dross and are biding our time to get the right players in rather than panic buying players as we've done in the past. Just be patient.

Deal is £1mn plus bonus clauses.
He has definetly left because Sammy Lee confirmed it yesterday (June 8th).
Not a clue what Lee is thinking bringing in Samuel and Mccann to a European qualified squad!

He wont have much to do at bolton as they never use their midfield they just hump it up the pitch and hope for the best.
