The new right back for Aston Villa will be?

Tuesday, 03 July 07, 07:50 AM · Comments (26)

If our source is to be believed the player starting for Aston Villa next season at right back, if Martin O'Neill gets his way, will be José Bosingwa of Porto.

The source is the same one that brought us the Bruno Alves rumour, which in our defence hasn't, as of yet, been rubbished by the official site or Martin O'Neill.

Bosingwa is an attacking right back who has played at Porto since 2003. I've no recollection of ever seeing him play but there does seem to be a few rumours about Martin O'Neill and Portuguese players; maybe he took a trip that we didn't get to hear about.

Anyway; it's a rumour. Treat it as you will but treat it with the same reverence every other rumour has been treated this summer. Until the club deny it that is.

Nothing is a done deal until Villa announce it unfortunately.

I doubt very much Defoe will move to Villa but I would love to be wrong.

Why MON not buy Phil Bardsley?

He is quite good when he was on loan last year in villa

What happened to Babel, Schniedjer or Drenthe, the Blue noses picked up Daniel De Ridde for next to nothing, as did Blackburn get Richters for peanuts, we should get in on some of that action. Although I know the above mentioned players would cost more I think there real quality.

i heard this boswingwa rumour months ago and his agent rubbished it publicly because he likes porto too much and would prefer champions league next season, i hope im wrong and i hope we do bring in some real quality, not too sure about reo coker, defoe and wright phillips would be awesome. just please let us sign some body, im bored of reading about the scum and their new look team

It would seem he was also linked with Boro aswell, he is very highly rated by porto fans, and never stops running. could be all right.

Firstly Ben, Bardsley??? We need to sign a far better right back than that. As for Sneijder. When r we going to stop talking about him. He was never going to come to villa. Players of his class want champions league football and we r a long way off giving them that.

Hmm I,m still not sure about Reo Coker, i think 8 million is to muhc to be honest. I like the idea of SWP coming to Villa park, i think him, Agbonlahor and carew would make an awesome forward line.

I personally feel we need to sort two players out (one we got rid of Mccann, no good to anyone, sorry son)the other is Petrov, i dont like him, hes a lazy player and i feel we could get better in that position, Nigel de Jong i think is still n the cards, he would add much needed experience, if we have the money go all out and sign someone amazing! eg: riquelme, TEVEZ! If this guy is unsure of his future i think MON should offer him the best deal under the sun, this guy is an incredible player and hes already used to playing in claret and blue!

I am not sure about Reo Coker, i think we paid to much for him. If we have plenty of money to spend we should be bringing in people like SWP and why not make a raid on Tevez! That man is a goal machine and would compliment Carew well.

Tevez would be everybodys dream signing it wont happen but a world class striker of his ilk would mean alot to the fans. They don't grow on trees though, and without Europe next season even harder task. Cant help feeling were still looking to everyone elses cast offs in the striking department, not a huge Defoe fan either.

I think MON is playing his cards close to his chest, the way the premiership is at the moment is that all the big boys get all the players they want first, United, Chelsea etc, then teams like ours have to bide there time and come in with quick bids.

I trust MON completly and am sure that by the end of the season, after all the months of checking this site, sky sports bbc news etc waiting for the signings to come in, we will land some great players and we will all be asking each other what all the fuss was about :)

I understand from a very very good source that next week Villa will run a massive PR campaign combining the launch of the new 07/08 kit with the signing of 3 major players.

- Deco from Barca
- SWP from Chelsea
- and one other???....with more expected to sign during the following week. Nice one.
