The stuff of legend: Mellberg gives away a shirt to all fans at West Ham

It's been rumoured these past couple of weeks but now it's now confirmed; Mellberg has given the travelling supporters of Aston Villa a free shirt upon arrival at West Ham.
They're not signed, which was the other part of the rumour, but rumour has it he ran out of ink.
This is an amazing gesture from the Swede and one that will no doubt be picked up on and talked about for a long time to come. He would have had to pay for the shirts, admittedly with a discount, but it really is a case of it's the though that counts.
It's a mix of home and away shirts with a message on the back and while I'm sitting in front of my PC, I can't confirm this next part, but it may very well say 'Mellberg 4 Thanks For Your Support' on the back.
This is his last game but he will not be forgotten, certainly not by the 3,200 who travelled down.

Fantastic idea almost unheard of a footballer giving back. Sad thing is some greedy muppets will have them on ebay tonight, take their names and ban them forever lol.

What a great thing for him to do, that would have cost him about a weeks wages, not many footballers would do that. Its a shame because it sounds as if he has played really well towards the end of the season. I still wish MON had brought a RB in, in january because I would have loved to have seen a fit Laursen & Mellberg play together.

Absoloute legend, ive got my shirt, created a brilliant feel good factor in a crap ground.. The Villa fans were awesome.. Fair play boys and girls.... A great day out for me..
