The Wesley Sneijder deal could be back on!

Tuesday, 05 June 07, 09:59 AM · Comments (13)

It was the News of the World that broke the news and it looks like there could have been some truth in it, despite my continued doubt in that particular paper.

What it comes down to is they probably know someone that has told them that Martin O'Neill was showing an interest and I for one would be more than happy if we bid the rumoured £12mn. to get him, Ajax accepted the offer and Sneijder signed on the dotted line.

I'd actually be more than 'more than happy', I'd probably be ecstatic as from what I've seen he is an excellent player. I would have been just as happy with Joey Barton though but it looks like he's joining Newcastle after it was announced he was having a medical at the club.

Sneijder is class and still very young. He scores goals and creates chances. Would he be welcome at Villa Park? Absolutely! Aston Villa need to make an offer to the club and make it public, if only to show the supporters that things are happening.

But don't worry; it is happening. Signings will come and if they are all of a similar ilk to Wesley Sneijder, we should a ll be very happy.

Do not make any bid public, lets hope they keep it under wraps till it's a done deal.

of course he'd be welcome, what a sign this'd send out to prove Villa's new ambition.
i agree with R Morris, not sure we should make it public until he's actually guaranteed (if he ever is) to sign, because we don't want Champions League clubs nicking him do we

I think the reason we've heard nothing from Villa Park is because that's the way MON does business.

We might've been in for Barton for all we know...

Sneijder would be a fantastic signing. Villa need to go for players where not every team in the premiership is after. it happens every time, teams seem to be after just about every player up for sale. just like west ham, panic buying. villa need to take there time and sign quality players. sneijder fits that catagory 100%. look at Tottenham they take there time and sign quality players, whereas some teams i.e West Ham rush and sign players that never perform. Because they are rushing they may sign players who are inevitably crap.

It's said that Ajax are keen to hold onto Sneijder though.
They also said it would take a large offer to get Ajax simply to accept the deal so we're going to have to go further than £12mn i'd think.

ajax have already said the £12m is a release clause in his contract, it would be a real coup

I've also heard that Ajax are desperate to hold onto Sneijder who is 1/3 of a fabulous trio of young players at Ajax also including forwards Huntelaar and Babel. Ajax in the past have been seen as a club who produces fantastic young players but sells them as soon as they are on the brink of becoming world class they now appear adamant that this is no longer the case and so this could cause a problem for Villa. They have already rejected substantial offers for Sneijder from Valencia despite the player insisting that he wants to leave. I personally would be overjoyed if the young Dutchman swapped Amsterdam for Aston as I believe he alone would add a significant amount of class to our squad. Just think if we could tie up a deal for Sneijder and also bring in a few more players of the same ilk. Slighlty off the subject of Sneijder I am praying that we go in for Darren Bent this summer, he's a quality player who would form a mouth-watering partnership with Carew up front. However I would really like to see Villa committing themselves to sign players like this before the likes of West Ham and Newcastle snap them up. Reo-Coker to sign for Villa before he heads off with the U-21's!

Just heard on skysports we have formerly offered 7mill for Reo-Coker, as well as enquired about the availabiliy of Nakamura from Celtic.
These two would add some welcome quality to the side, as well as competition for places. Although where Davis and Gardner would fit in the team is something we'll have to wait and see.
Exciting times though for the Villa, just hope we can add a world class (or as close as possible) to the squad as well!!!

Up the Villa

Looks like Villa's first signing of the summer could be Reo-Coker as O'Neill has just bid £7 million for hime.I think he would be a great buy. Also have read on skysports.comthat Villa are interested in Nakamura of Celtic and are possibly about to put in a bid for him. He's a player who is superb from set pieces and I think he would be a quality addition to are squad should we be successful in our pursuit.

Looks like Valencia is out of the race for Sneijder, so this could be a war between Villa and Spurs for hes signature.. Got nothing against Villa, my brothers a Villa fan. hope you get at least Uefa cup next year:) but think he will join Spurs as we are in Europe and he is a fellow Countryman with Jol.. 8)

Sneijder is just what we want here at Villa Park.
I think we need to get a move on though as we have money in the bank ready to spend where as the likes of Newcastle are still awaiting there takeover to get big sums and the same for Man City.
Lets get in and do our business before they can come and compete with us in the transfer market. Hope MON is reading this but I am sure our wise manager and our new owners understand this.
Watched Reo-Coker last night and he would be a good replacement for Smiler McCann.

Sneijder is pure class, would be a huge coup for Villa to pull off his signing.

Bouma (hugely underrated I think) is also dutch, though I don't think that really has any bearing ;)
