Two divisions but no confidence

Friday, 27 January 06, 05:51 PM · Comments (0)

I don't know about you, but I'm not overly confident of beating Port Vale.

Vale, the only team in the league named after a place that doesn't actually exist, seem like they are up for this- I just hope we are too.

Doncaster still sits in my memory. Hull wasn't a walkover, although had Angel's goal gone in it might have been a different story.

I just don't have any confidence in Villa at the moment, even against a team two divisions lower than us.

This is Port Vale's day out. It's their game of the season and they're gonna want to make it as best a day as possible.

We need to be at our best and treat them like a Premiership team.

If we're 3 up at half time then you can have a rest and let Vale make a decent game of the second half for their own sake.

I remember when we played Canvey Island at home and only won 3-0. Liverpool played somebody in a higher division and won 7-0.

I know the only reason the score wasn't the same in both games was because one team didn't want to ruin the whole 90 minutes for their opponents.

I know you have to win, but there's a limit to how much you want to beat a team like that.

Vale may be a higher division, but they'll be relishing this day and will be hoping that if they do lose, they'll do it respectably.

They're gonna want to make sure that they leave with their head helds high, if not with their name in the hat for the fifth round draw.

And that's why we've got to be careful.

Doncaster went for it and so will Vale.

And if it weren't against the Villa, I'd wish them luck.
