The script was written for him and he didn't disappoint. Gareth Barry played and scored the opener in what could turn out to be his season, if he plays his cards right.
The other scorers were Gabby, Martin Laursen and Ashley Young in what turned out to be a probably easier than expected match.
I mean no disrespect to the opponents, but we are a Premier League club brimming with confidence and it showed in the first few minutes, if only for the goals from Barry and Young within the first six minutes.
Still, we've got the home leg to deal with and these games should never be taken lightly and I doubt Martin O'Neill will, but could we have asked for anything else tonight?
As of now, we have Sunday to look forward to and probably more speculation tomorrow. Keep your eyes peeled and if you see anything, let us know. Don't talk to dead people.
The Team: Friedel, Gardner, Shorey, Laursen, Davies, Reo-Coker, Petrov, Barry (booked 55), Young, Agbonlahor, Harewood. Subs: Taylor, Osbourne, Delfouneso (for Agbonlahor 76), Knight, Salifou (for Petrov 66), Routledge, (for Young 72) Baker.

Well done boys! Just a shame we looked so vulnerable at the back!
Not a great performance by any means but job done. The biggest bonuses were Barry and Davies starting and playing 90 mins.
Bring on the Uefa Cup proper!
well done bring on city now
utv
Up the Villa!!
Strong at the back, Friedel commands the area well which is just what we need.
Midfield speaks for itself apart from we need Milner desperately on that right hand side.
Up-front Gabby took his goal well but with Carew out we didnt have alot of class up there. For me we def need another quality striker.
My man of the match was Ash Young, superb again and is def the key to Villa having a good season.
Up the Villa, bring on Sunday. I'll be there shouting in the Holte!!
Shorley - I'm not very sure on that performance... early days I suppose - he needs to settle. 4-1 a win is a win. Young is a class act. Barry was super too. Looking forward now to Sunday. UTV
great game reo look shit and the defence was frail ashley and barry great harewood should have made it 4 not laursen but great for the captain to get on the score sheet looked at bit dogdey at the back but i reckon just enough to beat man city with big john a lot of sharpness still needed to grasp, Great result ill be watchin mman citeh and ashley young will bag a goal....wayne routledge looked pretty sharpe when he had the ball .....but wheres maloney thought he'd get a game...salifou looked prettty good too up the villa
ok, who wants to have the FH's physio as our own. did you notice she looked very fit ;D Hopefully Young will make us tighter at the back, but cant help but think who i would rather have had, young or hoyte? MON obviously didnt rate hoyte, or else Hoyte didnt fancy coming to the midlands.
I'm not sure how coverage was over there, but here (in the US) it looks like it was being filmed using a super 8 camera. You could barely even read the numbers on the back of their shirts. But whatever. I thought Gabby's busting through two defenders and chipping the goalie was awesome.
As we speak, City are a goal down. Bring 'em on.
Ron - Strong at the back????????? We were all over the place. I'm not being negative just stating a fact.
Hope MON sees that we need another striker and a right winger. We seriously need to improve those two positions!
Who do we face if we make it to the next round before the group stages.................
Man city are losing at the mo' is it them or their opponents
We were missin something tonight??? we need a playmaker to bring us some skills and excitement
I thought one or two of their players looked quite sharp compared to our petrov, great game Davies well done 4-1 its all good ;)
Jinksy- Didnt quite mean it to come out like we were comfortable at the back. What i meant was Friedel looked very much in control of his defenders, which we didnt have with our previous keeper. It was refreshing to see him bollocking the lads in front of him.
Hope MON sees that we need another striker and a right winger. We seriously need to improve those two positions!
Hope MON sees that we need another striker and a right winger. We seriously need to improve those two positions!
Great play apart from IMO friedel was a bit poor when he nearly let that one in just passed the post.. however it was pretty much only that aswell as misjudging for the goal but not too much he could do about that.
Shorey not really noticable - probs a good thing on a debut.
Petrov needs replacing and quick.
Barry and young can make as a brilliant team.
We need a more clinical clever striker.
Things i took from this game :)
Still a bit shaky at the back but much better overall. Shorey does need time to settle, same as Sidwell, Cuellar and Young although they will have time to do it.
Barry was awesome again tonight, showed he won't sulk and despite what I have said in the past, I actually want him to stay now.
Anyone notice Maloney was missing? He will be off, especially if Milner/Another winger is signed.
Referee was good.
Man City losing, the UEFA cup can trip you up see!
I was happy with the result in general, but feel that we could have prevented the goal we conceded.
Young was a threat all the time he was on and was a pleasure to watch. Also, i was very impressed with Friedal's leadership skills. I was confident in every goal kick, every catch and every save he made. I really trut this guy and think he is going to make such a difference. If it was Carson in goal, i feel i would always be waiting for him to make a mistake!!!
Am i the only one that noticed that Agbonlahor kept losing the ball or am i being silly??
Joe
It wasn't a great performance, but I'd imagine that going up 2-0 the first six minutes didn't leave much for the guys to play hard for. Reo-Coker was mediocre, Harewood wasn't very good. Everyone else was good enough. Subs looked good too. I thought Shorey struggled, but first game with the team, we can cut him some slack.
good result, but how rubbish was NRC. he doesn't seem to be able to keep hold of the ball. villa should have commanded that game, but conceded posession too easily and gave FH too many chances.
I hope this is just early season rust.
barry looked excellent. fingers crossed he stays on.
Yeah Agbonlahor is still doing that! good goal and all that but as i always have said 'pace little skill' :P
Shorey was poor, how many times was he running back for his life..........its still early days though
okey cokey wasn't to brilliant either i hope mon's sorting this out! Im sort of hopeful we will be alright we need a Finisher/Playmaker/Mildfielder? Then we can think about 5th place!
Why did mon go for Young over Holte was he correct ? ? ?
Group Stages here we come.....................yes ;D
You failed to PICKPOCKET SoundWarnings.
good result not great performance but fitness levels will get better, as for the back we got 2 more players to come in who couldnt play tonight, did anyone else think routledge looked sharp when he came on
Good result, got the job done, lets focus on sunday and get teh 3 points!!!
First of all good result but very average performance.
Great to see Davies play 90 min. Young and Barry looked very good.
Petrov & Harewwood are well out of it even at this level.
Shorey looked nervous but will come good I'm sure. NRC looked a little unfit to me and was beaten to the ball to easy.
Gabby and Gardner did ok but Gabby needs to looks less lazy.
But apart from the goal that they scored it was job done and that's the most important. I think Villa will be sharper in the next leg. Also just saw City and they were so poor !!!
Oh yes forgot Martin & Brad - Solid
think i prefered nige impersonating a crab he cant run for s**t otherwise good game :)
Defensively there was too many shots at our goal, reo-coker did not suit right wing and drifted center, lost or miss passed the ball alot. Harewood just seemed to be a bit lost with the golden opportunity and didnt get into the game well.
We should of got more goals! nice to see GB, Young, Gabby & Laursen score goals.
Salifou, Routledge looked promising
UTV
i thought Routledge looked really good, shades of Lennon when he came on. also thought Petrov looked good tonight too. defence looked a bit shaky but as has been said, there are more players to come in and time to adjust to playing together. All in all i was happy tonight as I was expecting another Odense type tight match. well done boys. Striker please mon!
Lets for a moment, imagine that Barry stays.
Sidwell, for me, is better than Reo-Coker, and I do quite like Reo-Coker, so he plays with Barry in the middle, Ashley Young on the left and a right sided winger on the right.
Reo-Coker is going to become a squad player if Barry stays and we get a natural right sided midfielder.
Just got back to hotel.
We did look tentative at the back but Shorey's first game, other players to come and Friedel's presence is very, very assuring. FH caused us some problems to be fair and we didn't really deserve a clean sheet.
I thought we were a little ragged but we'll look far more balanced with the strongest team out and playing in their right positions. Thought Routledge showed some good touches. Would quite like someone like Joaquin but he'll be an able deputy based on pre-season / Europe.
Not convinced that Gabby and Marlon play that well together... they both just seem that little bit too selfish, as if they don't want to help their competitors, just like Defoe for England (you watch next time!)
One thing on Gareth... great to see him play and would love him to stay but his demeanour was just a little bit... 'Wigan at home', if you know what I mean. Not totally cold to the fans by any means but just a little distant/shy. Probably natural given what's gone on but if he'd made his mind up, his goal was a good opportunity to engage the fans directly that was politely declined, didn't need a 'badge kiss' but could have done a little more. I still think he'll go eventually then but obviously could also be out of respect for opponents ass you don't normally over-celebrate when you are such strong favourites. But we just looked a little flat all over - except Ash, obviously, who was given a bit of time off to get back to the hotel before the others ;)
What a fantastic place... probably my only away Europe match in all probability. It had been a lifelong wish to come to Reykjavik so gave me a good reason to make it happen - another good reason to thank Martin and the boys ;)
UTV
In my view Reo-Coker didn't have a bad game, considering he was playing on the right. His limitations were exposed, but his strengths (aggression, power, mobility) were much in evidence. Unlike Petrov, who was the most noticeable (or least, depending on how you look at it) passenger. In his early performances, Sidwell has hardly impressed (though I would assume there is plenty more to come from him), but he will surely be ahead of Petrov in the pecking order. We need a proper right winger (with Routledge providing cover), and we just as desperately need another striker. With a proper right winger and a quality striker, we should have a competitive first XI and decent cover - though we could also use another right back. Three more players, and, assuming Barry doesn't leave, we hopefully will have no trouble come January persuading Barry that a move to Liverpool would be madness.
UTV
all very well saying NRC was crap 2nite, but RW aint his natural position, so a little harsh
was praying that one of the subs cud of scored, they all looked like they had summin to prove
Good result, but lads..this side were utter garbage, and whats even more worrying they should have scored at least another 2 or 3 goal..Im not going to slate Shorey too much but if he plays like that again in the next match he'll get torn apart...what it was about tonight's peformance, if you play against rubbish then they drag you down to there level..I can't see why MON played Barry, there was no need at all, where was the scouting on this team..surely he would have been told that this team were part time...Lets get this straight..BARRY WANTS TO LEAVE ASTON VILLA!!!! i would rather let him rot in the stands..Best Player on the pitch for Villa was Gardner.. How come we haven't signed De La Red yet...as i said last week NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN !!!!
Please MON, Petrov out and Routledge in for next sunday. I watched the Man City game too and they had a very poor display (the only one that played well was Martin Petrov). That will be 3 points for Villa and a good start to the season.
Oh yes, and i hope after this game MON knows that a striker should be his next signing, with Carew out, Gabby and Scarewood are NOT going to score goals..
we definately need a striker and right winger, but have to say that Routledge looked good tonight.
When putting the bid in for Milner, why not also go in for Owen. Surely he would be tempted to come to a team on the up and full of englis talent-and Mike Ashely would love to get him off the wage bill
He is a guaranteed surce of goals.
I was on the game (im icelandic) and let me start that it was great to see my Villa team for the first time.
In short Barry and Young were in a league of their own in this game, and for me Barry was the only one who looked bothered. I know the opposition wasn't strong but we made them look good.
Shorey was absalute rubbish, especially in the first half, i sure hope he gains some speed, because from the look of it he looks even slower than Barry.
Maybe i expected to much 1-4 is ofcourse a great result away, but i expect nothing less than 5-0 at home :)
Kristján Iceland
Agree with you re: reo-coker damian. Pretty clear he isn't a right sided player, i just wish he had better distribution. It's great him winning the ball back but if he runs up blind alleys and loses it again it's a waste of time. We didn't learn much new tonight to be fair - pleased overall though.
Agree with most of the comments. Barry, Young looked very good. Petrov lost as usual and should never be in the side, but still short o options.
Defensively, looked shaky again with Gardner filling in at right back. Great to see davies back. We still need a creative midfielder, right winger and a 20 goal a season striker and more options on the bench would be useul.
Wait..wait..wait
ive just looked at some of the postings..
"barry looked excellent. fingers crossed he stays on".
"Barry was awesome again tonight"
What the fcuk!! have you lot being smoking a crack pipe, HE PLAYED CRAP, he stuggled to boss a midfield against a Teacher and a social worker..
But this takes the biscuit..
"Barry was awesome again tonight, showed he won't sulk"
Won't sulk...Ehh?? he's on friggin 40k a week...SULK!!!! ... id sulk if i wasn't paid double time on a Saturday... good god..
Anyone got link to the goals online? I have 954 TV channels on sky but no fecking channel 5 ;)
cheers
was an OK game. Won 4-1 so no complaints from me, however did look shaky at times.
Gabby's goal was great, however he had a few oppurtunities where he made the wrong decision. Barry, god I wish I could still say 'Captain Fantastic'. Played really well, I just wish he'd come out and say that he wants to stay at Villa.
Gardener played really well I thought, as did Davies.
Seriously, we need to get Petrov out. Heard his name twice throughout, where his shot got blocked and when he gave away the free kick. I think Routledge proved today he can play down the right, stick NRC in centre (or if Sidwell is fit leave him out altogether)with Barry, Young on the left and Routledge on the right.
Looking forward to Saturday's game!
Damian,
In response to the article - last season you said that you thought both reo coker and petrov were better holding players than Barry. You also banged on about how Sidwell would get goals for us.
So presumably the midfield for you should be coker holding and sidwell bombing on?
Also I recall you saying coker should be the captain. Now you say he is only a squad player.
Once again you are inconsistent mate. really contradictory.
we won 4.1 away yea they maybe a very poor side but we had to win and get a good game under our belts, fitness levels not great it seems to me we played less games because of the intertoto than we did last year with freindlies so to me its a good result with some promising parts, lets be honest this wont be the same side thats plays against man city on sunday
NRC had a job to do, not his natural box to box game, he had to protect gardner and push on the wing where possible! Thought Petrov should have been out wide!
What happened to Maloney - give Routledge a start for the return leg!
Shorey didnt look comfortable, tried to play his way out of trouble at the start but once he got caught it was clear his lines first time every time. His eventual fault for the goal, he got by his man getting ahead of him when he should be touch tight to clear - but not getting on his back. He's a sound player!
Young will do better than Hoyte, everyone seems to rate Hoyte but he has barely played - he's been on the fringes at Arsenal for a few years and that automatically makes him good?? Id rather Young who we know is solid. (not saying Hoyte wont come good in time).
Gabby is poor, slows down every attack and never looks up - touch of Baros in there. But he's young, got great pace and can finish - just dont like when we play the ball up top him when on his own, he seems clueless as to what to do with it! MON will sort that out though. Nice goal!
Barry & Youngcarrying on where they left off. Thought Laursen and Davies got caught out of position once or twice but recovered well! Gardner solid enough for playing out of position. Friedel not tested!
All in all the result in the bag - you can only play what's in front of you and that sometimes makes for a poor game - on the premiership stage it will improve.
John Carew straight back in there!
Oh and some of these comments about selling some of the players on show NRC/Petrov/Knight - for years we've bemoaned not having a decent "squad" but the moment we add numbers - and good solid players at that people start to question if they should stay. NRC was awesome last year and will do just as well this time!
I don't think we'll be able to get away with playing like that in the premier league, especially at the back. Shorey looked shocking, didn't close anyone down, or mark any players. Looking forward to see who MON starts on sunday in defence! Man City won't be a walkover as everyone is suggesting following there 1-0 loss tonight, they'll be up for it more than ever after such a poor match. (hopefully i'll eat my words and we'll trounce them).
Jonny W, i also noticed that Maloney was missing. Very weird considering he is much better than Routledge (can you see routledge scoring two goals at stamford bridge this season???)
RW needs sorting, can't trust NRC, petrov, or gardner there. Perhaps move gabby there and get anotheer decent striker to replace him?
1-4 on my birthday August 14th, I don't think that is any coincidence, I think I just won us the game lads :), 22!
Nicky shorey (shaky shorey) thought he looked like hendrie
Reo Coker still poo
Petrov still po
Friedel looks like Hellboy
But great result and very early days.
Midfielder and 2 strikers needed.
Some of you seriously read to much into the game.
Ever played against a second rate team? Get the goals early then sit back and control the game. Yes the back looked a bit off but the first couple of games after a break players are always shaky.
We won away against an unheard of team and is another step towards Europe.
Stop over analysing everything and just enjoy villa being villa!
Taddy
Why is it you feel you have to come on here and try to score points?
Can you not understand what a blog is? It's about opinion and believe it or not, opinion can change.
However, mine hasn't changed - yet you still try to score points.
First; do you think Martin O'Neill wants Barry to stay? I think he does, so regardless of my opinion on Barry as a footballer I've got to accept that if he stays, he will play. So surely I've got to factor that in, don't you agree?
Yes, I did bang on about Sidwell and I stand by that. I think he'll get goals and be an excellent player for us, why you bring it up, I have no idea.
But if it was up to me and I had to pick two central midfielders (which I'd never do, as I'd want three) I'd have Reo-Coker and Sidwell in there, absolutely.
And yes, I did say I thought Reo-Coker should be captain, but that was before we had Sidwell and when everyone thought Barry was leaving. To be a little fair about this, so did most of the people who voted in the poll.
I don't think Barry should retain captaincy and now we have Sidwell and taking into consideration the above (if Barry stays he will play) I'd like to see Sidwell as captain - but that is my opinion.
This isn't inconsistent or contradictory - things change and as things change opinion is also allowed to change. Mine has simply adapted.
Nice to see though that you are consistently making yourself look childish.
Finally, my original post is all good news. We've had a fantastic night, we've got new good players and probably more to come. Your comment above is not needed.
"Nice to see though that you are consistently making yourself look like stupid "
Well said Damian. Why come on here just to have a dig at someone, has Taddy not got anything better to do or something constructive to say?!
any news on milner now that the geordies have calmed?
i know if someone had said a 4-1 win before the game had started i would have snapped their hand off, but the game was very poor, only a few players played well.
reo coker lost the ball all the time and against opponents of this stature.
harewood and petrov were poor and did nothing.
if gabby had not scored a goal would of had a bad game as well, a good finish from the goal saved him.
and shorey, had a bad game but its his first so hopefully just trying to fit into the way we play.
I must say i think routledge had a good game when he came on, i like him, hes quick, can take on players seems to be able to cross and boy can he hit the ball.
i think we do need a striker badly and an attacking midfielder who can control the game, if barry stays then great, he played well tonight but he is stil not an out and out attacking midfielder. would love to see a midfield of barry, younng, sidwell and say...........gatuso or diego. someone like that.
however well done to the players for getting the result and well played to the players that played a good game. davies, gardner, barry, friedel, young and routledge. think these guys all played very well
It just shocks me how negative every1 is after a 3 goal win. Shorey was poor but give him some time to gell with the team and I think he'll do fine (remember he's really only stepping in for Bouma) and NRC looked disinterested but it was a blowout within 8 minutes so I don't blame him. Look at the positives: Friedel showed leadership, Ashley was sensational yet again, and Barry shows he will give his best for us until the very end whether it be sooner or later...and don't forget Man City are in shambles with financial troubles and after losing tonight their confidence can't be high. Here's to a win on Sunday and a long UEFA Cup run!!! UTV
Here are some pictures from the game in Iceland LINK
Gardner our best player tonight Vogra?
In the game that was on on C5?
The one in Iceland?
Great pictures Gulliht.

Ash is the greatest - LINK
Damien is quite right this is a blog for people to comment on the topic which is the game last night not what was said months ago
as for the game its what i expected bit scrappy but if we draw lower league sides in FA cup etc and deal with them like this i will be happy
for me barry did not have to kiss the badge last night he did something much more and told mon he was up for playing
up the villa there are two or three signings to come one big one i think
I think our defense might be a bit shaky for the first few weeks anyway with the amount of new guys we have there. But come January or so we should be in good shape.
As for whether Barry needed to play, MON clearly started him as a bit of an f- you to Liverpool. If they're not going to stump up the cash, then they're not going to have him play in the group stages. Credit to Barry for coming out and playing well in that situation, as I'm sure he knew what MON's thought process was. I think he'll be gone in January, though, for less money.
I thought Routledge looked half decent when he came on. If we don't manage to sign anyone before Sunday then I'd rather he had a run on the right in favour of putting NRC there. The problem with NRC is that he attempts to do too much witht the ball and ends up losing it nearly all the time!! - not good. Barry looked busy and the fact that he played (and wanted to) despite the fact that it would make a move to Liverpool now very unlikely, is a sign that in his mind it's over (at least for this transfer window).
We looked a bit 'messy' at times but we still have Carew, Sidwell, Young and Cuellar to add to the mix. Not a bad position to be in and remember, without wanting to tempt fate, we're in the UEFA cup!!!! :)
who thought gareth barry's heart wasn't fully in it last night? maybee just because its early on in the saeson i don't know but we have to take positives out of the result not individual performances.... except ash, class class class above!!!!!
We need another striker martin and quick, carew is class but gabby is still young and learning and as for marlon! he was terrible!!!
UP THE VILLA
Man City are shite-lets spank 'em! As for Barry or anyone else's heart not being in it, I'm certain that after the second goal MON told them to take it easy. We could have run up the score easily.
I don't know about the quality of the opposition, but they sure had a good drummer :D
Mynd means picture.
The game last night was just like watching a formula one racecar with 1000 hp and just using 200 of them and the other car was 120 hp on full gas. This was one´s in a lifetime change to watch Villa in Iceland and I was hoping for a better game from my team, though happy to see Barry play.
Best wishes from Iceland.
Capello was at the game last night, being cynical is this why Barry was so keen to play????
Damo mate, chill chill. Toys and prams toys and prams - you always take the bait dont you.You criticise Uncle Bill and the club site - just pointing out you inconsistencies matey.
Sidwell for Captain heh, a new player - not garaunteed a starting place, barely played for a year, and no captaincy experience. A good player and a good signing, but not great credentials for a captain is it.
For me Laursen should get it, sees the game at centre half, leads by example, puts his head where others would not dare, and would not ask you to do something he would not do. A bit like Terry at Chelsea. Also he garaunteed to play when fit.
I did think we looked vulnerable at the back last night! Shorey could have done better, i don't think he closed down the winger quick enough! But all that will come in time, and the back four will gel once MON's preferred line-up plays.
On the plus side, Young looked sharp, as did Gabby, Barry had a good game! Reo-Coker was Reo-Coker and i thought Routledge looked sharp and hungry when he come on. Brad Friedel never seems to worry me, he had no chance for their goal and the little he had to do he did well!
MON's blind faith in Petrov is seriously doing my head in. How can you possibley play him, with NRC way out of position on the right, when we have 2 perfectly good players who can play on the right in Routledge and Maloney? It makes no sense.
I'm beginning to think we have too many central midfielders and one of them has to go. Sorry Stillian, you're just not good enough.
Taddy
I'm so chilled it's unbelievable Taddy, but you've got to stop this point scoring or you're just going to have your comments not published.
You do it all the time so thats why you got that response last night - I'm fed up with and you're doing it again saying 'just pointing out you inconsistencies'.
Thats not what you're doing - your trying to score points. As for me having a pop at Bill - he's supposed to be a professional reporter - I do this for a hobby - come on.
Great result but looked a bit sloppy at the back, few games should sort it right out!
Me mate had money on Barry to score first @ 9/1 :D
Shouldn't read too much into this result or performance - the opposition were from Iceland - not exactly a footballing mecca.
However, Reo-Coker does my head in. I dont think he is a good central midfielder (where the main attribute is to PASS the ball) but as a RW he is simply awful. I dont buy this 'do a job' nonsense. Either Routhledge or Maloney should play there and if they are not good enough (which is probably the case) then we seriously need a signing here.
As for the Reo-Coker - ditto for Gardner - he will never be a quality premiership player. One of these 'do a job' players with no positional sense, pace, vision or quality.
On a more positive note - Friedel demonstrated why he is going to be GREAT for us, Young scored another great goal, Gabby scored an excellent goal, Routhledge looked good when he came on - as did the Fonze.
People seriously need to get off Gabby's back - I cant believe the critism he gets - after Young the player with greatest potential at villa park.
Taddy, you sometimes appear to be a touch envious of Damian's little hobby.
Why not run your own Villa Blog thus ensuring consistency and providing opinion that you agree with?
I think Routledge should play until we find a permanent RW - Ok, so he only played 20 mins or so, but he played some good football; think he only gave the ball away once.
And Friedel - shame he didn't keep a clean sheet, but that guy oozes confidence between the sticks!
Gabby just signed new 4 year deal!
I think Friedel looked superb. I can't remember having a keeper who commands his area to so well - when one of the crosses came in and all you could here was the booming scream of "MIIIIIIIIIINE!!!", fantastic.
I thought it was a no-no to shout 'MINE' in a football match!!
yay reo coker a squad player!
winger striker and creative middle man. and if they are good quality there is no reason why we cant challange 4 4th place
I dont think you are chilled damo mate, thats why the toys come out the pram whenever someone disagrees with you. If its a blog and all about opionion - why can's people give thier views on the comments of the author? - particularly if we disagree with them. In MY OPINION saying Sidwell should be captain of this club is just stupid and really does show that you dont understand the game (in my opinion). He has never captained a club, he is not garaunteed a place in the starting eleven, and he is yet to play a proper competitive game for us (excluding the intertoto)
Just relax Damo, have a beer or something, and chill out. Its not your fault if you dont understand the game, or know what positions players play in. Just accept your lack of knowldege, chill out and move on. Feel the love damo and calm down calm down
You see Taddy, you're just proving my point.
You're looking to score points. This will be your last comment on here if when you do comment you are not commenting wholly on teh post.
9 out of your last 10 comments have been like this - toys came out of the pram as you said after you posted garbage last night and unless you can comment on the content, like I said, your posts wont show up.
I thought Nathan Delfousno looked impressive when he came on, think he's got the potential to be a great player for the villa!
Nan was a fan
Great idea - lets just say watch this space work is under way - exciting news soon.
I promise I wont talk rubbish, be biased against Gareth Barry, and invent transfer deals.
All goals were good last night but I cannot understand why he played Petrov from the start. The team lacked cohesion at times and we def. need a proven striker, prefably one who can win the ball and not wait around for it. I agree with Ben Richards Gabby appears lazy.
Taddy I agree with you, Damien has some weird perception about Barry, he's the best player in the side hands down. There's no way that Reo Coker and Sidwell are in the same class, I never did understand why you keep reacting Damien, who really cares if you like him or not, people keep posting comments about him because you keep reacting. We all have opinions, but the fact of the matter is that Barry is in the England squad and neither Reo Coker or Sidwell are - end of story. BTW very happy that he will be with us next season, thought it deserved a lot more credit than he's getting for playing for us yesterday, he gave up what a lot of people have been critical of.
