Villa get a point against Everton

Monday, 02 April 07, 04:09 PM · Comments (2)

A late goal from Gabby Agbonlahor saved the blushes at Villa Park tonight after average, no poor defending, saw Everton go one up early in the first half.

It wasn't until the second half when Berger came on for Smiler that Villa looked anything like a team capable of attacking. This was helped by Shaun Maloney coming on for Ashley Young with five minutes to go in the first half but with a possession statistic of 39% in the first half it couldn't really get any worse.

It's a worry seeing Young go off but I'm not so sure there are going to be that many people who actually think that. He's not been the most effective player yet, but it's still early in his Villa career and he will get better.

I'm leaving it short tonight simply because I'm worried that if I write too much I'm going to sound too negative when it's not how I mean to come across as the second half was a little better.

Martin O'Neill needs another season after this one and probably some way into his third before we should really expect to see the changes happening.

So, one more point is better than none but it's not nice seeing where we are and the football that is getting served up. Still, we've got Blackburn and Wigan coming up; surely some more points from those two?

It sums up Villa perfectly, excellent in the 2nd half and poor in the first half. I hate to berate players, but McCann was woeful today and we need to add some creative steel to our midfield, when Berger came on the 3 players in the centre looked very good, even Petrov was getting stuck in. Hopefully the players can use the second half as a springboard to get back to winning ways against Blackburn.
