As our highly successful Premiership campaign begins to draw to a close, I thought I'd do an update on the title-chasing Reserves. After all, there's not much chance of any silverware from the Senior side...
As things go, Manchester United top the Barclays Premiership Reserve League (North) table with 56 points from 26 games, while we sit in second with 50 points from 24 games.
Middlesbrough are third with 48 from 26 and Manchester City are fourth with 47 from 26. Liverpool, in fifth, cannot catch us and so a top-four finish is guaranteed.
With four games to go, the title is clearly still winnable, and with a decider against leaders Manchester United scheduled as our next but one game it looks like it could go down to the wire.
Both teams still have to face Liverpool after each other, so it can still go either way.
Our final tie is against Leeds, although we face Wolves in our next game, having just beaten them 3-1 away - our eighth away victory of the season.
All four of our games are home ties, while United must travel for both their games, thus giving us a huge advantage. However, our disadvantage is playing four games in eight days.
Wolves is April 19th, United 22nd, Liverpool 24th and Leeds 27th. United face Liverpool on the 30th.
United would become the first team to retain the title should they defeat Villa and Liverpool, but if we can get the result we need against United we should be set to clinch the title for the second time in two years.
