Villa v Liverpool: My Opinion

Monday, 07 November 05, 03:01 PM · Comments (0)

I am fairly disappointed with the result, to say the least. I thought this was possible the best opportunity we've had to beat Liverpool in 10 years.

I know we've done it, but this was easier than any of the other chances we've had.

Something's gone wrong at Villa Park. Until about four games ago, I believed in O'Leary. I believed in what he was trying to achieve and the way he was going about it.

I didn't believe much of what he said, but he did just talk rubbish to get his message across and I didn't mind really. I like to let a manager's football do the talking.

And now it's no longer talking a language I understand. We are defensively inept. The midfield does not track back and leaves the two centre backs with far too much to do. Our wing backs get forward but not back quick enough.

Certain players are going walkabouts and the left side of our defence is a major problem. Ridgewell, in my opinion, is not good enough for the Reserves let alone the Premier League. I know many people disagree but this is just my opinion.

Going forward there's little we can actually do with the ball. We can cross for Super Kev - hardly the world's tallest footballer - or Milan Baros - hardly the world's best headerer of the ball, or we can play directly. Which we don't.

I just think if this doesn't change soon we'll be looking upwards and thinking of ways to catch Birmingham City, which is not a position I'd like to find the club in.

Maybe O'Leary should go- there's still enough time to get a new manager ready.

Maybe we should give him time. Things should sort themselves out- it did two years ago. We actually went into the relegation zone that year but sorted ourselves out.

Although we've escaped before, this time it just looks as though things aren't going to improve. If we haven't got the passion now, we're not going to get in.

We need to have started with the burning desire to do well.

Whatever's happened, I hope it's sorted soon.
