We were a better team last season when Luke Moore played. He scored and created chances. It may also be a coincidence but our forum dropped as soon as he got his shoulder injured and got better when he came back.
In pre-season he's scored for fun and while I appreciate it's pre-season and you shouldn't really look at the results as any indication of how good the season is going to be, surely if a striker is scoring goals, he should be given a run in the team?
There is also a rumour doing the rounds now that he'll be off to West Brom so Martin O'Neill can get Curtis Davies. Sorry, but players like Luke Moore are the future of this club and you don't sell him without giving him a chance.
Luke Moore deserves a run and I expect he'll get it soon. He's had an excellent pre-season and didn't deserve to start that match on the bench; especially when John Carew was ill before the match.
Now, that the debate on Moore has begun, how long before the Shaun Manoney debate begins?

And while we are at it, has anyone noticed how MON seems to be very careful when it comes to substitutions? He rarely uses all 3 options and yesterday he left out Berger altogether (if the Czech schemer wasn't hyped up for this Liverpool game, then I don't think he would be for any other), subbed the excellent Gardner for Cahill (I would have moved Gardner in midfield and subbed Petrov instead), and yet again Maloney was left sitting on the bench despite MON having 1 sub left to use. I don't know, perhaps we all know better than the next guy when it comes to football but some of the above leaves me a little baffled.
We need to hold on to Moore - good home grown talent and he seems to have regained the form of last season (before his injury) in this years pre-seasons. I didn't think much of Gabby or Carew on Saturday, but by far the worst player on the pitch was Petrov who was out classed, out played and out shined by Reo-Coker.
Cahill actually came on for Laursen, not Gardner.
I was hoping Moore was going to start the season, but I really don't think 3 'small' guys upfront would have caused Liverpool too many problems. That said, why not throw Harewood on for 10 mins?
Apart from a few flick on's Carew was very poor - ill or not, he should have come off long before the end.
I thought Bouma was the most disappointing defender, and Petrov is consistantly bad.
I would suggest a midfield of Berger, Barry, Reo Coker and Young. More creativity is needed from the wings - the crossing from both sides on Saturday was awful.
maloney will be fitted in gradualy, moore should have played with carew and agbonlahor instead of petrov. or berger instead of petrov. luke moore is too good for the championship, he will realise that, he is obviously in martins plans or he would not have started games in preseason
I thought Cahill and Mellberg were good. Gardner was outstanding for a young midfielder playing out of position.
MON certainly needs to change things for Newcastle. Maybe he was playing a 'weakened' team because he though Liverpool were going to be too strong and he wanted to bring out a better line up against a more winnable game like Newcastle. I'm hoping because there needs to be some reason for putting out that line up on Saturday.
If he goes I have this to say.
Great work Martin well done we have a small squad and are struggling and you get rid of the guy who got the most goals in pre season. (sarcastic)
I would like an apology for everyone that slated me for being negative this summer, when I was in fact just worried because I know Villa, and I knew this would happen, another sodding season of mid table boredom (if we are lucky. If MON knew his targets, they would be here, the players let go Ridge, Davies played really well and realistically we need 8-10 new players, but we are going to get 2-3 if we are lucky, and looking at some of MON buys already now (Petrov) it doesn't guarantee they will be that good. If I was L moore I would be so pissed off with MON, so good man management there MON. Watching MOTD we looked shite compared to other teams and remember if we hadn't got a penalty I don't think we would have scored a goal if we played until next Saturday.
i agree, so far MON would have got Barnstaple Town relegated
what a complete fuckup on:
Transfers (what transfers i hear u cry )
Line up for games ( who takes a HIV positive person to a sperm bank )
tight arse wallet. Gordan Brown would have been better when he was chancellor
all i see in the papers is ONIEL: SIGINGS IMINENT, SIGNINGS ON THE WAY, IM SURE OF SIGNINGS
bollox as somone said if u had ur targets available you would have got them...
fkn Carson on loan = dont get me wrong hes an awesome keeper but what the fuck.... what you do.. give Rafa head to borrow him at last minute and prommise to throw the game by stickin on the players you did
sorry to say this but everyone saying KEEP THE FAITH.
its like your parents being killed by a murderer, then being lifted by a tornado, swirled around then spat down to earth ending up on the M25 only to be hammered by 500 trucks and be dragged to dover, acidentilly hooked onto the back of the eurostar and spending the rest of your days in a garlic filled vinyard under 2 feet of fertaliser and you being told TO HAVE FAITH IN GOD
Whether Moore should play or not should be a coin-flip. He was out for much of last season, Agbonlahor had a super-season and is obvious for a starting place, at least versus organized defence were we need to get deep and be wide and pacey. Carew is the key striker of ours, the only central one there is room for in a 4-3-2-1 system. Young was a big transfer and he was blistering in pre-season, that he starts shouldn't be a big wow or anything.
Moore is a young lad with lots of ability and potential, but with the squad alternatives we have, and the given match-picture of a hard fight versus Pool, I would say it was ok to use him as a super-sub instead. He'll get his chances, but there's not room for 15 players getting their chance from start at the same time.
Word at Express & Star is that we've turned down WBA's request for Luke Moore:
LINK
Just speculation though.
OK reality check MON, last season 1 OF THE SMALLEST SQUADS IN LEAGUE, so professional scouts and a 3 month transfer window, 18 Days left to get a bigger squad than we had which was a squad of 27. We now have a squad of 19, so how are you going to improve on 27? are you going to buy over 7 players in 18 days? no, so right there you have lied to us. Here you are MON so it's in black and white for you and your scouts to easily understand, mind you, your the professionals paid high wages so i am sure as you have said all summer you have them all just lined up, although you did also cryptically say quality over quantity! Ridgewell and Davis may not be world class, but they are good players and I would prefer a good player over actually no player at all!
Angel -
McCann - Reo-Coker
Sutton - Marlon Harewood
Djemba-Djemba -
Davis -
Ridgewell -
Hendrie -
Hughes - Carson (Loan)
Delaney -
Samuel -
But then again as the mindless drones say keep the faith lol what bollox!
Lol just realised I am going to get absolutely slated now, remember lads it's only cause of years of mediocrity and to suddenly be promised the world only to get Harewood. Sorry if it upsets you and remember It's only my opinion which it seems as a fan to the club means nothing anyway.
I made the decision in june to wait and see what happens transfer wise before renewing my season ticket as moneys quite tight and i felt it was time the club started delivering on promises.
I'm disappointed to have been proved right in my judgment, i could see it coming, and now whatever happens before the window shuts - its been left far too late and any players that may arrive will not have the settling in period required to come up to speed. So disappointing
Moore should stay without a doubt and if he is let go then that is a travesty!!
We need to stop talking the talk and learn to walk the walk. We need to show everyone we mean business and not just sprout it.
And another interesting point, MON says that he will only buy players at the right value and right quality. Well does that mean that every other manager in the premier has wasted there money on players of insignifcant quality and at inflated values. I dont think so.
oh and Top_6_Villa that was one random little rant you went on. hahahah. Funny shit.
I would prefer an attacking 4-4-2, reo and barry doing the donkey work, ash and gabby getting more of a license to attack and join Carew and Moore upfront.
taglor! i think your jumping the gun a bit to much! it has been one game! we played liverpool! who reached the champions league final last season!and who in my eyes will be the biggest challenge to chelsea and man u! abit early to condem us to mid table boredom! it is fans like you that constantly try to bring this club down!
The reason people are so down about Villa and are losing "the faith" are as follows:
Transfer activity this summer to date - a let down
Harewood - a let down
Lack of communication from club to fans throughout summer - a let down
Players leaving without replacements - a let down
Broken promises from the club - a let down
Starting the season with sick players - a let down
not having a right back - a let down
our entire scouting network - a let down
MON's constant repeat of the same giberish - a let down
Seeing this coming from a mile off - a let down
Not being proved wrong about my comments made months ago about our squad - a let down
I'm so sick of this crap that people keep on coming out with "keep the faith"! GET REAL PEOPLE!!!!!!! WE HAVE HAD 3 MONTHS TO PREPARE FOR A SEASON AND NOW WE RUN THE RISK OF DROPPING OUR FIRST 9 POINTS DUE TO SQUAD NIMBERS! 9 POINTS IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EUROPE OR NOT BUT EVEN MORE WORRYINGLY IT CAN BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RELEGATION OR STAYING UP! Faith is something I lost weeks ago!
Walshy Taglor is spot on and has been in all his posts. Mid table boredom will be a result for Villa. I wont be surprised if it was worse than that and we were ina relegation battle. We were good enough for 11th last year and have lost ground on teams around us over the summer so how can anyone expect us to finish any higher this season. Face it we have a poor squad and no numbers. Imagine if we had chelseas injuries - we would have 7 players fit. Our squad is so small and poor we even had to play Laursen and Carew both of whom were sick all night before the game.
Keep your hair on taglor it could be worse, we could of spent £24m like Fulham and still be shit!!
Let's hold back negative comments until the 1st Sept, at least.
I, like you aint happy in the slightest and I don't think MON is stupid either, he will get there cos he hasn't got an alternitive, this is his livelihood and he knows you can't piss off the fans or you'll be gone.
Walshy so what! Is it wrong to want my club to beat the likes of Liverpool, you seem happy enough we lost just because they are a big team, well I want us to act like a big team.
Ps Is Petrov gash because he has bird shit in his hair and it puts him off?
Pongo1981 playing with moore and carew up front would be good but as was seen last year Gabby is best playing up front. Playing down the flanks last season he often looked like he wasn't sure what to do. Personally I think Moore deserves more a run in the team.
As for transfer we've messed up quite simply because MON is not willing to pay, sadly you have to pay over the odds to get most players now. He said he wanted to have all his players in before pre season started and he didn't so he then said he wanted them in before the season started and he hasn't.
Are we going to get anyone in before the end of the month? I hope so
For F***s sake why dont you all f**k off and watch the f****n s***e down smallheath! yes as it woz clear to see it will take us at least 5yrs min to even get close to l'pools team. And i will admit Mon has been slow in the transfer market, but we have just lost to one of the best teams in europe, give the lads a chance!
Im getting pissed off with all these Villa fans who criticise us for having our own views on the team. Just cos we are unhappy with the way the club has prepared itself doesnt mean we are all secret blue noses. I still have faith in MON and RL but some questions have got to be asked. Thats our right to do so. And anyone with quick responses like 'go be a blue nose' or whatever are clearly uneducated fools. Is their one single Villa fan that can honestly say that they are completely impressed with the running of the club so far? I didnt think so.
Gormz, it pains me to say it but small heath looked a lot better than we did at the weekend, and they were up against quality opposition and away from home. The point we are making is that the 5 year plan will have to be torn up and replaced by a 7 year plan such is the lack of progress made by the villa this summer in relation to the other teams around us. We run the risk of being left standing still........
I can feel it in my water, there will be signings this week. Heard a rumour that Heinze could possibly be signed before Wednesday!! As for Harewood, I remember when Ron signed Peter Withe, quite a lot of eyebrows were raised and th rest is just history. Give the guys a break. Up the Villa
I would have played Moore. He should be rewarded for a great pre-season. He was also brilliant last season when fit.
I think MON got the formation wrong. Young looks really dangerous on the left wing (2nd half sat, u21 tournament for Eng), not the hole behind the front two. Does anyone else think Oâ€Neill is giving in to Agbonlahor by playing him in his preferred position up front? It does nothing for our shape and leaves us with NOBODY out right. We did really well at the start of last season with Moore, Angel and Gabby up front. Now how about Young, Moore/Carew and Gabby/Harewood?
I was really impressed with gardener, that guy is all heart and if he was in centre mid with Reo-Coker and Barry, I think wed go places. Petrov should take a leaf out of Gardenerâ€s book.
Also letâ€s get behind Marlon Harewood. We know the man has it in him, heâ€s still young so where are we going to get by bashing the crap out of the guy. Iâ€m reading Brian Clough's autobiography at the moment and it's clear that MON learned from him. Clough even said it himself that he could see shades of himself and Peter Taylor in O'Neill and John Robertson. Clough loved to find the unfulfilled talent and underachievers and turn them into European Champions. One person that I could see being such a buy is Marlon Harewood. I for one would take the Marlon Harewood of 2005/06 over the Agbonlahor or Carew of 2006/07. No question.
PS Saw Wright-Phillips run Birmingham all over the place. Obviously nobody knows the full truth about whether we even went back in for him again this summer but I think he could be one of the best players of the season this coming season. Also plays in a position where we look pretty lightweight. Did we let him slip away?
The only way moore will play is if petrov fucks off. anywhere will do. gabby reo barry young moore carew. petrov is the biggest crock of shit going and the sooner mon realises it the better. Why swap barry to left back and piss bouma off, to please petrov.
I think MON is suffering from a touch of DavidO'Learyitis... by that I mean playing his favourites no matter how much of a bag of wank they are!
Liverpool were there for the taking on saturday and we were'nt at the races SIMPLE AS THAT .How can people accept that result/Performance saying that loosing is ok cause Liverpool nearly won the champions league last year, its all about on the day and on the day MON did not have the tactics to have a good go at them. Id rather have lost 10-1 and actually attacked them.
And people who are saying NRC was good??? what f**kin game were they watching?? him and Petrov chased Gerrard like headless chickens.
I dont care what people say that General Twat said we were going to buy top class players, so i brought my £500 season ticket and my £40 shirt to que 30 mins for a £2.80 warm beer at half time only to watch NRC and petrov mark each other out the game.
Im feeling p****d off apart from Barry and Carew the rest of the team is average, only these two players can cut it week in week out. Unless we sign 9 top class players in 2 weeks we can write off this season as another boring mid-table season.
Its annoying we've lost to a top four side again. Liverpool were there for the taking but we just didn't play well enough.
Sheff Utd beat Arsenal last season for fcuks sake. We have to fight harder against the big boys.
Reo-Coker will get better, he was tackling hard and ref was always against him!
tbhaley86
couldn't agree more.
I have to agree with you Tone, mid-table obscurity is a distant dream if we play like we did on Sat. If Reo-Conker plays like that all season then its relegation battle here we come.
luke should be the 1st forward on the team sheet, not that over-rated headless chicken abgonlahor. luke's better in every department, control, movement, creating scoring chances, he's every bit as quick, he's got a better & quicker footballing brain and he's a much better finisher. lukes the best forward et the club at the moment, i dont' know what he needs to do to get an extended run, perhaps he should run around aimlessly or run straight into the opposing players or just give them possession from a crap 1st touch. changing the subject slightly, where was berger, he's got to be a better bet than sillystan petrov, how are you supposed to break defences down with square passing all the time, i thought he might be a bit quicker after a full pre-season but if anything he's bloody slower. o'niel seems to have a few favourites in this squad, like abgonlahor and petrov, the question is how long is he willing to persist with them before he realises they are sub-standard. o'niel needs to sort it out and show us he's the manager everybody's hyped him up to be, just because he's had success at celtic does'nt mean jack, i could have had the same success up there with celtic and i only manage a kids team, anyone can talk a good game.
Facing such a solid side as Liverpool, I would choose Luke Moore over Agbonlahor. Their back four lay low the whole match, making the opportunities for Agbonlahor to use his pace, rather few. I am left puzzled why we did not play a good old 4-4-2 with Carew and Moore up front, really.
Anyways, bring on a couple of signings and a decent runout vs. the Geordies!
I agree with woodyo, although i dont think that moores as quick as ag-mong-lahor he dosen't need to be coz he would already be where gabby would be trying to get to due to his intelligence and football brain!
finally someone other than me believes we might be in a relegation battle. I have been saying for weeks, and i genuinely believe that is where we are heading. Some people may come on here and say go and support the noses for even suggesting this. I just want to know how any of you can honestly expect us to finish top half with our dismal squad?? And as for the people that say we may get into Europe - Are u clueless??
At the end of the day we don't have enough players let alone quality ones. It's a shame cos Petrov does have class, I just don't know why he is playing like that, it must be a confidence thing. His debut at West Ham was awesome, and now it looks like he aint bothered, just on easy street.
But really, hoofing the ball to Carew for 90 minutes was embarrassing, no attempt at any kind of imagination. Panic football, that if continues will see us languishing down the bottom. Can only see Fulham game as 3 points, and if we get a draw like last season then we could be bang in trouble unless MON sorts it out by 31st Aug.
Barry sure can take a penalty (hear that, England?), but Luke Moore is our greatest scoring threat. He should be in the first eleven, no question.
What we have now is enviable depth up front. I hope MON doesn't start dealing away attacking players, especially someone as young, talented, and promising as Luke. I think Gabby and Luke are essential components in the Villa dynasty to come. If someone has to sit, it's gotta be Petrov. He's the bland leading the bland, and he gave away the Liverpool game, and I guess I just don't like guys with highlights. Kiraly had better hair.
But seriously, we could run a very threatening 4-3-3 with Gabby, Carew, and Moore in the front, fed by a midfield of Young, NRC and Barry.
Luke Moore is the only striker we have that will score goals.
perhaps he has to grow another 5 inch & get ill & stop scoring to get picked.
I would also like to add - MON keeps saying he is building a team well if he was building a wall would he get rid of all his bricks & then tell us that the bricks he wants from B&Q are too expensive.
Martin get the fook down to B&Q and buy the fooking bricks. Not back up bricks briocks that will be used in the wall.
Get my drift.
Tone - youve hit the nail on the head.
Nice 1 Tone, I feel better now that I know some other fans are as worried as me and don't want to put up with another drab season, as long as we can have a laugh about it I can cope lol. I think Erikssons showing how good his knowledge of world football is like Wenger and I wonder how many foreign players MON has knowledge of that could be bought for better prices, I'm worried his limited knowledge of football on a bigger stage is starting to show. And no I don't think I know better than him. Just funny how many slated man city and said panic buys when they look shit hot
calmaestro - u say we have enviable depth up front?? What??
You have just named the team u would like to start which would leave one striker on the bench - HAREWOOD!! What great depth!!! I am sure spurs for exmaple are so envious what with keane, defoe, berbatov and bent!!! or Newcstle with Martins, Owen Viduka, smith etc!!!
Another clueless Fan!!! i am sorry but Carew, Moore, Gabby and Harewood is not up to scratch!! Again i reiterate that is why we have no hope of finishing top half!!!
I don't know how anyone can try to say that Gabby should play right wing. He's hopeless there - he can't beat a man, can't cross a ball and can't defend. If he plays he should play up the middle. He played there at the end of last season and was class, so he should play there or not at all.
Based on the end of last season you'd have to start with Carew and Gabby up front together, so I don't think MON was wrong to do that. However, it should be together up front in a 4-4-2.
I think Moore is over-rated. He's good, don't get me wrong, but if he hadn't have come through the youth team nobody would be that bothered about him. But he's not had a proper run as a centre forward, so perhaps he'd do a lot better if he had the chance? I can't see him getting 20 goals a season though.
We definitely need a top-class forward as ours won't score more than 30 between them, a top-class midfielder and 2-3 new top-class defenders.
Then we'll be okay!!
Depth upfront??????????? ha ha ha You have got to be jokin mate!!!!!!!
Drogba, Sheva, Pizzaro, Malouda, SWP, Joe Cole, Robben, Kalou
Thats a team with depth upfront.
seriously i no football is about different opinions but, if you think villa have depth upfront then you haven't got a clue mate.
with the small squad we've got, id be happy and surprised if we reached the dizzy heights of mid-table - the size of our squad is an absolute disgrace
The reason gabby should play wide right is that he's quick as piss and his pace can cause any team problems, the problem with saturday was donkey petrov's poor distribution!!
Gabby should have the ball played 6 foot in front of him and told to fuck off with it as fast as he can, moore, carew and young are quick enough to catch up and finish the move.
Reo wasn't great, can remember a number of times he gave the ball away, usually when we were committed forward and left us open at the back, thought Gardiner was quality after he took a bit of slack on here before the game!!!
Truth is we all expect too much too soon, we aint gonna take the prem by storm and prob wont beat the top 4 either, however a couple more "quality" signings would see us improve and we only need another 10points from last seasons total to get into europe and put us in a better position to attract even better players.
5 year plan = 5 year plan, under ellis our only 5 year plan was to maintain zero debt.
Absolute travesty that LM didn't start on Saturday! He was scoring for fun in pre-season and playing with confidence. Somehow being reduced to a late substitute appearance i think could well dent that confidence in the near future. Get AY and GA out on the wings and LM and JC up front and we will scare any team in the league.
PS BUYING SOME DEFENDERS MIGHT HELP ASWELL >:(
Well we are in the second year of our 5 year plan and we've let more players go without replacing them. The decision to let ridgewell (and to small heath too) go without replacing him first is in my opinion strange and davies has gotta be better than petrov surely. Luke Moore should def have started on Saturday and given a free role to boot. I hope were more positive against Newcastle.
I first starting reading this site just after the season finished. Over the summer i was expecting alot more and thought posters like Taglor were being Unnesessarily negative but now i realise i was blinded by my own optimisum. I so wanted the club to buy class players that everytime i thought something negative i pushed it to the back of my mind. Now im worried and just hope MON can pull it off.
Mick i think MON tries to use as little subs as possible as he doesnt want to risk injurying players as we only have such a small squad.
If Moore does go to WBA in part exchange for C Davis i will be very annoyed as we have such a small squad and if we start letting any senior players go at this point there really is something wrong. Hope MON can get a good 4/5 players in within this week.
Keep hinm on the bench i enjoy watching the ball being lumped up to Carew
pongo, abgonlahor may be as fast as piss, he is also piss poor. next time you watch him, count how many times he beats a player with skill. he is one dimensional, the ball over the top for him to outpace the defence, great, but what happens when, like liverfool the defend deep and give the headless chicken the space to run into. sorry mate, he'll never be good enough to lace luke's boots. minimum requirement for a prem player is a footballing brain, unfortunatly gabby was in the queue for extra pace when they handed out footballing brains. luke and big john every time for me.
Cheers flabster, I'm not being negative for the sake of it, but just say you work in a shop with 27 staff and you let 10 go and don't rehire, it doesn't take a genius to realise that the shop will go under very quickly. While the other shops are all getting new staff that are highly trained. ps the shop can be anyone you like I choose primark lol. Another thing I'm worried about is with such a small squad will it put added pressure on players to be fit all the time for league and cup duties and make them burn out quicker? Can you imagine Mourinho or Ferguson starting with no professional right back only 1 keeper and 2 players sick? The difference is just unbelievable.
jusy one other thing, if the shit rumour comes true, that luke goes to wba as a make-weight, o'niel should be sacked immediatley and sent to small heath for him to reduce their squad and bring in inferior players at inflated prices. ridgewell 2m curtis davis 6m plus luke do me a favour11111111
i'm beginning to think deadly doug spent some of his shares pay-off to have plastic surgey, he's come back as manager 7 looking like martin o'niel, lol.
On a completely different note, is anyone else completely fed up over the last two days, of reading nothing but "ROONEY OUT FOR 2 MONTHS"!!! has anyone heard whether rooney is injured??
So, 17 days to go tomorrow and still not a sound. Not that I'm counting or anything. On a different note and talking about "smaller" clubs (or big clubs with less pulling power, as Villa are at present) buying big name players, I'd like to mention Van Der Vaart going to Hamburg a couple of seasons ago, or Kuffour moving from Roma to Livorno in Italy, or Dhorasoo (ex french international) playing for Livorno this season, Anelka and Okocha to Bolton..if Villa had scouts good enough to know the European and world market rather than mince around in the new Bodymoor Heath complex or only go as far as London, they may have also noticed that a very useful and skilful target man like Lucarelli just moved to the obscure Shakthar Donetsk in the Ukraine, that Dhorasoo was without a club for 6 months, that Trabelsi's still available as he's without a club, that Giuseppe Rossi moved to Villarreal for the same amount of cash we have paid for Harewood, that Podolski at Bayern is now really down in the pecking order following the arrivals of Ribery, Klose & Toni and may have been available at least on loan for a season, that Marco Amelia (Livorno) is an italian international seeking better clubs (and Man City will probably snap him up), that a proven goalscorer like Makaay has just left Bayern Munich to return to Feyenoord more due to lack of offers than anything else, that Grosso of Inter Milan was available before moving to Lyon, that Motta of Barcelona is almost a forgotten man despite being a top player and young, at 25, that no one seem to want a great player like Riquelme..I can't be bothered to go on but surely, if a nobody like me can spot players' availability left right and centre someone who does the job professionally can come up with something better than what we've managed so far? Just a thought. And yes, I know some of the players mentioned above (namely Riquelme, Podolski and Grosso) would have probably snubbed the Villa anyway but why not try? I also know some of the players mentioned are over 30, but as we have an abundance of youth in the squad surely some experienced, quality player like - say - Dhorasoo could have added to the team as a whole? I don't understand, I really don't get it.
LOL teletext football gossip 3 of 6 pages about, you guessed it, Rooney injured!
Mick Rossi went to Villarreal for around £6M and that is effectively a loan as there is a clause in his contract that allows United to repurchase him at a later date (possibly for the same amount)
But i see exactly what your saying, when ive read about quality players leaving clubs ive thought well we could possibly get him but it just never happens.
The next 17 days (or whatever)will make or break Villa's season. If we got a good few quality players in then i think we can make Europe, if we dont then its mid table at best, relegation battle at worst.
Definetly a shocker that Luke wasn't in the starting setup,
We've all seen highlights of his ability and potential but it seems that he gets injured after a flurry of good results, or at least that's what has happened the last 2 times.
Laursen should've been rested too against Liverpool but MON said him and Carew were desperate to play, bet they wish they hadn't now.
luke should start over any of are current players his form woz magic at the start and end of last season and pre season!!!!
Analysing MON's Transfer policy
Petrov (for Davies)
Carew (for Sutton)
Young (for Hendrie)
Maloney (for ????)
Reo-Coker (for McCann)
Harewood (for Angel)
As yet there are no direct replacements for Samuel, Hughes, Djemba-Djemba or Ridgewell or even Delaney)
The only position for which there is now more competition is GK after the arrival of Carson (on loan !)
Draw your own conclusions
Finally somebody is seeing sense, Luke Moore should be in the Aston Villa starting line up alongside Carew. He will get onto carews flikons nd if given half the chance he will score the villa bagfulls of goals, and whoever is sayin moore is overated is completley wrong if anything he is underated. Agbonlahor 2 b honest is in the team bcoz he s got pace 2 burn but looking @ the bigger picture with gabby nd luke luke moore has a lot more 2 offer than gabby.2 strong seasons gettin regular footy 4 Aston Villa, & if he scores us the goals say 30-40 in them 2 seasons, which he is very capable of, England is a real possibility. We shud go bak 2 a solid 4-4-2 as the midfield 3 were overun by 2 world class centre mids in gerrard nd alonso theres no gettin away from it. btw it was not a f**in free kik riley u t*at, with luke moore nd carew up top, barry on da left young on da right, wiv petrov nd reo-coker in da middle.
What does Luke Moore have to do to get a game?
Your guess is as good as mine :( I think martin should just unleash him you can see when you look at him how desreate he wants to get on that pitch him and carew would do good togther if they get a few games under there belt playing togther....
taglor i am not happy about we lost! but what i am saying is u want a near miricle to happen! automatically you want villa to be turned back into the giants that we know they are! not going to happen!we can go out and spend millions and millions on players like west ham or man city!even better lets do a leeds! we should trust martin o'neil! hes bringing players throught like moore and gabby and making them better and better! just look what hes done with bouma!he was shi*t wen he 1st signed and now he is playing out of skin!
spot on merlin!
in my eyes this should be the team at the moment!
Carson
Gardener Mellberg Laursen Bouma
Agbonlahor Reo-Coker Barry Young
Carew Moore
i belive iv we buy a right back we have a verry good 1st team!
couple ov decent subs Maloney,Taylor,Harewood,Berger,Cahill
that is a quality bench aswell
WELL SAID TONE
im so sure this is our year for a real relegation scrap...and i tell ya what, the only squad in the prem that i think we are better than is derby..i wouldnt fancy us down there battling against the likes of wigan, wham and the noses, these lot do it for fun..our guys im not sure wed cope..glad ive got a tenner on us to go this year..could be a nice summer holiday next year
Walshy that team would by my XI aswell! Glad to see someone sees it my way!
....although maybe with a recognised rightback if we ever get one??? ;)
Moore simply needs to be given a run in the team and so called fans need to stop moaning! I dare them to come back on here and moan after 31/8/07!!!
You moaners almost make me feel sick! I dare to say it again...KEEP THE FAITH :'(
