There is a common theme spreading through the blog at the moment, started by a certain user, who I'm not going to name and over inflate his ego, but I will point you to his blog. The theme is 'yes we can'.
I might also be wrong, but I think it was him that started it and you know what, maybe, just maybe we can.
But moving on to a rumour that is seriously gathering pace, to the extent that the talk is, it's all about a medical for Charlie N'Zogbia that is holding up the announcement of him signing.
Now, I have to stress, this is still a rumour but a former playing colleague of a current Aston Villa player has also popped onto the blog today and as good as confirmed it. Now, I'm not going to question a Norwegian user who comes onto the site to tell us something he has heard, nor am I going to question any truth in his claims.
The player has as good as come out and said he'd prefer a move to us over Arsenal and that doesn't happen unless there is something going on. Maybe we'll find out later today or tomorrow.
For the record, N'Zogbia joined Newcastle from the Le Havre youth team and he's played 118 times for the Geordie club. He can play at left back or the left side of midfield and some have even classed him as a winger.
Now, following on from my earlier post today, I sort of suggested what we need now are solid players that can come in and do a job. I've also got to admit that until this rumour started up I hadn't taken much notice of the player so my knowledge of him is really very much based on faint recollections, but the general feeling seems to be that he will add strength to the squad and at this time of the season, I think that is exactly what we need.
So, if it happens it happens, but I think its fair to say we do need to see a player or two extra come in and if they all have the same impact as Heskey, we'll all be very happy.

I think N'Zogbia will turn out to be a great signing. As stated above only 22 and has already played 118 for newcastle so has experience and is young. Then there is the fact that Bobby Robson said he is greatest talent he has ever seen and he has seen Maradona up close. Now he is underperforming at Newcastle (that could be said for anyone in there team except Given) and we all know what MON effect has on most players could turn out to be a real superstar for the Villa.

I hate to put a dampener on it but im not sure about N'Zogbia. I just dont like the way he has tried to get this move from Toon by throwing his toys out of his pram. Saying he wants to go to Arsenal, then realising they dont want him so saying he wants to come to us. One massive reason that we are doing so well is our team spirit, how well is Zog going to take it that he will be warming our bench? I dont want any bad apples disrupting the camp, especially at this stage, and im just not sure he is the type of player we want. Id much rather take a chance on that Delph from Leeds who is hungrier and has a better potential. I cant see N'Zogbia improving us that much. If he comes I hope he proves me wrong but he is going to have to win me round im afraid. UTV
Some say that dogs look like their owners. I believe the truth is the same to a certain extent with Football managers and their owners. The one's that don't tend, to inherit each other's personality. Below are a couple of examples:
1. Joe KINNEAR and Mike ASHLEY. 2 barrel bellied buffoons with capillaries bursting all over their fizzers. Neither seem to have a clue what they're doing.
2. Rafa BENITEZ and HICKS and GILLETE. A two faced ownership and a two faced manager. Everyone blaming someone else for their inevitable downfall.
3. Mark HUGHES and THINGY. HUGHES hair has become so white that news reporters have to stand behind a smoke shield in order to look at him. It's taken on the appearance of an Arabian headress.
4.MON and Randy LERNER. Both have an honest but insatiable desire to succeed whilst having a personal integrity and humility that have bestowed the likes of GANDHI, LUTHER-KING and Dalian ATKINSON.
Back to the thread, and I believe ZOG will prefer our style of football and add a different dimension; if he comes!
As we know, MoN loves to do his homework, so he will know all about his character and temperament, and will know whether or not he's going to add or detract to the spirit in the dressing room (the biggest factor in our success). We should therefore have no worries about him in this respect. He definitely seems to have talent, so it'll be about MoN getting the best out of him. He'd play on the left (when selected), allowing Milner and Young to play on the right. With any one of these three players out, we'd still have a strong and balanced line up. I'm sure, should we sign him, that he will be coming to the club understanding that he's not necessarily going to play every game, and accepting that reality is a great sign. He's clearly ambitious, and I'm sure will be backing himself becoming indispensable to Villa. If he signs, a great signing.
As for the Arsenal business, don't hold that against him. He said he had a slight preference for them two weeks ago, and in saying that was, in my view, in now way being disrespectful to Villa. Misguided perhaps, but not disrespectful!

He's definitely one of my Top 10 Villa heroes so I'll cut him some slack. It is realistic to expect us to be the ones to fall away if anyone does so I guess he's coming from there.
Everyone was saying it a few weeks back, now you have to hunt them out, so we're winning people over with the results.
I'll also cut Insomnia (Not N'zzzzzzz then) some slack... I've had to moan a bit myself to get out of working full notice period to take another opportunity in the past. Felt bad for doing it, really hated it, but was just necessary to take advantage of opportunities. Obviously comepletely different scale in terms of cash, etc but maybe he knows he's valued at Newcastle and had to make himself unpopular to get away.
He's like all the others (Platt aside) - every passing week, we are looking more credible for 4th spot. Maybe that's why he's changed his tune.

N'Zogbia's had to put up with 4 years at The Barcodes a club in a constant state of chaos, seems like only recently he's become frustrated at their annual stab at self destruction, can you blame him wanting to leave, surprised its taken him this long.

I want N'Zogbia for the same reason I wish we had kept Routledge---we have no cover for Webcam or Milner.
Signing N'Zogbia will give us some decent options off the bench. He'd probably play LB until Bouma returns. But if and when people regain their fitness, we'll have: (1) N'Zogbia to spell Webcam and Milner; (2) Sidwell, Reo-Coker, and Gardner to spell Barry and Petrov; (3) Carew to spell Heskey, or vice versa; (4) Knight to spell Cuellar or Davies; (5) N'Zogbia and Shorey (till he inevitably leaves) to spell Bouma.
I don't know about y'all, but those look like decent options to me.

The legendary status of Laursen is growing and growing. He's now retired from his country to concentrate on Aston Villa! Talk about love for the club!
Not sure about this rumour , only because Newcastle have a pretty small squad and only last night Owen and Barton went off with injuries. Also Given is off to Man Shity and the chance's of them getting replacements in are slim as no one want's to go there.
Hope it is true though , great player. I wonder how much he would cost ?

Guys, MON is quite prepared to take on players with supposedly bad tempraments - remember that he signed Stan Collymore - not becuase of his attitude but becuase of his talent - and guess what - collymore's attitude was just about spot on when playing for MON. And Collymore never ceases to praise Villa now.
The thing with flair players is that the rest of the team have to get on their wavelength to make it work. Man.Ure did this well with CANTONA and more recently, RONALDO.
ANGEL had wider vision than the rest of our team, and when the team 'got it!', it worked well. I think ZOG has this same kind of talent as lauded by Bobby ROBSON, however, I think we have the players around him to bring out the best of him,

hahahah laursen is great for us but, to mention him in the same breadth as mcgrath u must be joking!!! he has 1 thing in common with mcgrath and thats dodgy knees!!!! 1 vital flaw which was exposed against west brom...... rushes at defenders and gets caught flat footed, its happened him lots..... dont get me wrong hes immesnse and id always want hime in my team but when mcgrath came out he always won the ball on the ground as well as in the air like laursen, up the villa!!!!!!
if we can beat wigan (which ent gonna be easy) and then blackburn which brings us up to chelsea...(i know we have moscow in between) but if we can keep that momentum going until chelsea then who knows what can happen. It's down to us aswell though lads, the fans. Can i just say that this is one of the first signings that i have been really excited about. I have been calling for this signing to be made for almost a month, maybe longer. He would totally add another dimension at the back but could also be used on the left with Ash and Milner in midfield to create havoc for opposing defenders. According to setanta sports we are on the verge of getting ellioy grandin on loan with a view to a permanent deal! Its been as good as confirmed by the manager of marseille! Ive heard he is a good talent and is a striker but can play on the wing! Now this either means that we arent getting nzogbia or that harewood is on his way out! Ive heard he has fiery temper but im sure mon would calm him down and et him playing to the best of his ability! Hope we still get nzogbia though! I've got a question. Do Villa or MON lack ambition in the transfer market ?.
I'm saying this because we're supposedly signing a french under 21 who's got a bad attitude (Supposedly), Then there's Zogger's who's attitude change with his pants. So why aren't we enquiring about a certain irish whinger called Robbie Keane ?. it's obvious MON doesn't mind moaners or possibly disruptive players because we've got Carew and possibly 2 french moaners coming in.
It just irks me when we're crying out for a 20 goals a season man and we don't even have a sniff at keane who's record speaks for itself. instead we'll keep marlene & sign this frenchy then not sign him in the summer because he won't displace marlene or the Fonz on the bench. While Keane will either stay at pool and score a few or go to spuds and score more than his fair share (Cause he'll get the games).

So until it says we have agreed a fee then i wouldnt believe that he is at our training ground agreeing terms or having a medical!!

Nzogbia has said he will never play for newcasle again after kinnear publicly called him insomnia last night! Maybe his agent has told him to publicly state that he will never play for newcastle again so that he can get his move to another club and his agent will get some profit for it! There are offers on the table for him so maybe newcastle should just accept one and cash in on him now rather than get no money for a player that wont play for them!! He must be confident that he will get a move otherwise he is risking being told to rot in the reserves with no first team action for the rest of the season and thats a big risk to take!Reckon he will be a villa player by the weekend!

Surely N'Zogbia will sign for villa now! Newcastle will have to accept any sensible bid for him after his statement. I have the strangest feeling that MONo doesn't actually want him. I say this because it doesn't seem right. He's not English, he doesn't seem to have the right attitude and he's not in a position that we're really desperate. We've got our back four playing well, Ashley Young is going great on the left, and Milner a)cost 12m and won't be left on the bench often and b) is playing better and better each game. This would suggest that N'Zogbia would be largely a sub; a very good quality one at that. But would he kick up such a stink at Newcastle to come to be a sub at Villa? I don't think so. Having said all of this though, MONo hasn't denied it yet...and if there's ever an indication of credence to a player link at Villa, it's usually that.
PS. That Harry Redknapp flow chart is as funny a thing as i've seen...it's so good that we can see how much of knob the guy is.

Cheers Jonny W. Kind of illustrates my point that Zog probably isn't what MON wants at the club. I can't see him starting in the team at the moment, and that is only going to lead to him throwing his toys and sulking, and disrupting the dressing room. The only scenario i can see, and it is in many ways quite probable, is that Luke Young takes his natural position on the right, Carlos shifts into his natural position in the middle, and Zat resumes his natural position on the bench, while N'Zog takes left back and roams forward. In this light, it seems like a very good signing. I retract everything i said about MON not wanting him...he might very well do.

I don't think that MON would get N'zogbia to play LB...he just doesn't fit MON's preference of a big, 6ft+ defender(L'young, Davies, Cuellar, Knight, etc.). more likely he is buying him to compete with ash and milner on the wings. or maybe even moving one of the wingers into the centre with sidwell playing badly at the moment.

Agree though - I have my doubts about Richards' character but not about MON's ability to keep it in check and with a dip in form it's just about possible.
I have to admit that given a straight choice I'd take Lescott - see AA's post - but I suspect they're talking big money and that move if it came off may just be what enables Villa to get Richards.
Actually this could have a near perfect outcome:
Lescott -> Man City = Everton weaker and no swap between Man City and Arsenal for Richards/Toure. Unhappy bunny stays at Arsenal = Arsenal weaker.
Richards -> Villa = Villa stronger. Probably means L Young covering at LB until Freddie is fit enough to challenge but he's been great there for us so far.
