Zat Knight arrested: Front page of The Sun

Thursday, 30 August 07, 03:49 AM · Comments (29)

I'm pointing you to it because it is news. I should also warn you it's The Sun so believe what you want but until we hear exactly what is happening, don't worry.

He was arrested after crack cocaine and heroin was apparently seized at the house where he happened to be.

Lifted from The Sun: One local, who did not wish to be identified, said: “The police were in the house for about three hours. After that, uniformed officers came out carrying several plastic bags, rucksacks and boxes. We don’t know what they took away.

A spokesman for the West Midlands Police said: “Police have carried out a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs and Firearms Act this morning at an address in Erdington. Two men, aged 26 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of Class A drugs offences.

“The 27-year-old man has since been released on police bail. The 26-year-old man continues to help with inquiries. A quantity of controlled drugs was seized.”

A spokesman for the club has said "He was inadvertently caught up in a police inquiry. At no point was Zat ever considered to be a suspect but because he was caught up in the inquiry he was as a matter of course detained for questioning.

"His conduct throughout was described by the police as exemplary and he was released without any charges being made and none are expected."

Make of it as you will.

this is england , drugs in every other house on the street. Every pub, boardroom and gym.everybody knows someone who dabbles or deals. However there is a reasonable argument to filling all footy players full of uppers and watching them go at it for 90mins.

i didn't like him before, but now he has won me over. nothing like a bit of a party to celebrate his move to villa.

Seems a simple case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. MON would have known about this before the press conference, if he or the club had any doubt on his innonecnce the deal would have been pulled

KnHIGHt. Zatyiah. We expected imposing german defenders, dribblers from France or simply a good home-made goal poacher like Defoe. We got Zat and his Erdington raid instead. I'm holiding fire until the morning of the 1st when we will finally know what the hell is going on at the Villa, but so far this summer's been laughable.

Great start to his life at the Villa. Maybe he was persueded to come to the club by Reo-COKEr?? I think Martin needs to CRACK the whip now before he really steps out of LINE.

Ok cheesey, but what the hell!! ha ha

I just read a piece about this - it was his mother's house where they found all the gear and the other bloke that was arrested was his brother Carlos.

Another house owned by Zat was raided too. Looks very dodgy.

Duno what to make of this really, if thats true about being his family's house, it sounds very dodge!!

Hopefully he's as clean as a whistle and it doesnt get blown out of proportion or else his career with Villa will be very short lived!!

What an idiot, we dont need a wannabe gangster like half the inner city clowns in Brum. He's 27, can expect it if he's 19. Said that his bro Carlos broke his jaw "play-fighting", ha ha, when do blokes in their mid-20s brake a geezer's jaw play-fighting? This guy is not only clumsy on the field, but off it too. If he cant even handle is younger bro how the hell is he gonna handle Drogba???!!

Still he's a Villa boy, and MON (hopefully) wuda known about the raid/arrest so I'll give him a chance. Hopefully it'll be all right on the Knight.

Wonderful how quick some are to turn on others from a news story emerging from *The SUN*. That pretty much should say it all. Actually reading the story, it seems like they're piggybacking the signing news. Had Zat not made a move the past day, it probably would have been a 'brother of footballer' news story rather than the roundabout shoddy Columbo work that's going on.

But in case that isnt enough, here's the other side to the story (because, you know, there often tends to be): LINK=villa-star-zat-i-m-innocent&method=full&objectid=19709929&siteid=50002-name_page.html

Some of you really need to put away the nooses until all the facts emerge.

Sasa
Sasa Wrote: | 17.56BST | Aug 30, 2007

It's quite obvious his bro is shoddy. I'm not trying to say he's a crack head but we dont need that type of $hite happening at VP. We got rid of Hendrie, dont need a media replacement!!!

Cor
Cor Wrote: | 18.30BST | Aug 30, 2007

But how else will we get our 'outside football' column inches? ;)

In all seriousness, though, his brother shouldnt be used for a yardstick for Zat's own behaviour. If it turns out there's an influence, then fair enough, but I dont remember Zat being in much trouble before this. And I'm sure he's not the only footballer out there with a shady family member.

Not to mention we have one of the better man managers out there - if there IS a problem, you can be pretty sure O'Neil wont stand for it.

Until then, I'm not going to judge the kid's (urgh, that makes me sound older than I am, lol) future career at VP when he's not even kicked a ball yet, and allow him the benefit of the doubt... especially when that same doubt originates from 'The Scum'; hardly a bastion of highly held journalism.
