What is the matter with Cristiano Ronaldo?

Saturday, 19 May 07, 05:38 PM

He was celebrated as the best player in the world for many people (even me). But the season comes to an end and the Portuguese international was a shame in those, so called, major games.

He was awful in the Champions League semifinal and useless this Saturday in the FA Cup final. He was the MVP of the Premiership, but mostly for his appearances in the beginning of the year.

Cristiano is still young. But he definitely needs to show more game in the big events.

He is the Fake Ronaldo...that is it! Cristiano is also the only european player who has something to show up in terms of hability...but he is far away from south americans and african players. He has to improve a lot to win the best player of the year trophy. Maybe he should asks something to the real Ronaldo's, which has five Fifa trophys together.

Ronaldo is a top player, but basically in the top games he hasn't done anything. In the last 3 games against Arsenal he has been quieter than a mouse, notably last season when he was up against makeshift left-back Flamini. This year he has got zero change from both Gallas and then Clichy on the left, and Eboue has given him nothing at all.

Against Milan he was ineffective, and in 5 other games (3xChelsea, 2xLiverpool) he was just as peripheral. Van Nistelrooy, Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Keane... all recent winners, it didn't matter who they played against, they turned it on.

Fake Ronaldo is what he is - but I can't argue that he has been deserving of his awards, for the goals and the assists, because he has won many games on his own this season, just not any big games.

I've already said it in portuguese, but I'll say it again in english: I think the problem with Ronaldo is more physical than psychological. It seems that after almost 50 games in one season, and a tough World Cup (and he was the most important player for Portugal's team), he just burned out. I'm not his biggest fan (think he's an awesome player but like SM said, he's a bit of a fake guy), but I felt I should say this in his defense...

ronaldo has a big big future...but we can´t said that he is the best soccer player...manchester just won the premier league this season. May be the next season he will show as the great things that he can create with the ball...gerard and kaka will play the final..and he will watch it on tv
