What about Rivaldo?

Thursday, 04 January 07, 07:14 PM

Rivaldo always have been known in Brazil as a player without any charisma. Not a hell of a merchandise boy. Not much a good speaker. Not a guy you want to be your friend. But, definitely, he is a tremendous player.

For Brazil, he was the leader of the 1998 runner up campaign when Ronaldo had problems in the final. In 2002, he was, my point of view, the best player in the tournament by far, although everybody remembers Ronaldo and his incredible recover from surgeries (not to mention Fifa gave Oliver Kahn the MVP!!??). Rivaldo also won Copa America in 1999.

For Barcelona, Rivaldo won two Spanish Leagues and 1 Copa del Rey. He played as a culé from 1997 to 2002. In this period, he was a magician and had probably the best individual appearance from a player in one game when he scored a hat-trick against Valencia in the last game of the Season. The last goal was a bycicle kick from the edge of the area in the 90th minute.

Now take a quick look in this all-time Barcelona team.

Zubizzareta, Puyol, Guardiola, Koeman and Sergi; Deco, Laudrup and Maradona; Cruyff, Romário and Ronaldinho.

I know Maradona is a legend. Probably the best player I have ever seen playing.. But face the fact he didn’t have a good season in the team.

At least with the FC Barcelona colors, Rivaldo was a better player than Maradona was.

Press Puyol and Marquez, a way to go

Monday, 18 December 06, 03:11 AM

After the last trainning section for Internacional, coach Abel Braga asked Alexandre Pato, Iarley, Fernandao e Alex to press Barcelona in its defensive line so the ball wouldn't get so easy to Deco and Ronaldinho as America allowed them to do.

I still believe Internacional can beat Barcelona. The Brazillians had a horrible game in the first match, while Barça played an astonish 4 x 0 win against America. But things can change in football. I saw Internacional playing many good matches this year back in Brazil both for Copa Libertadores and Brasileirao. They can do much better in the offensive line but the best way to win is to play really hard defense against the Barcelona stars. Clubs from South Brazil, like Internacional, are famous for playing hard and going for every ball. So that is a way to go.

It is not over (yet)

Saturday, 16 December 06, 07:31 AM

It is a fact Barcelona is the favorite for this year Fifa Club WC Championship, but I would like to remember the Spanish Press, particularly the Catalan ones, that there is still a match missing.

Mundo Deportivo, in the cover of Friday issue, already calls Barcelona the best team in the World after last night astonishing match against America Club.

Sunday's referee is a scientist

Saturday, 16 December 06, 06:16 AM

The referee for Sunday’s match between Barcelona and Internacional will be Carlos Bartre, from Guatemala. In his official profile, scientist is his occupation. I just hope he is not going to invent anything special for this game. Read his official profile here.

Deco or Ronaldinho?

Friday, 15 December 06, 08:45 AM

I can't make my mind yet. Who played best tonight? Deco or Ronaldinho? Deco was in every play from Barcelona and scored an amazing goal. Ronaldinho was in every play from Barcelona as well. His goal was not that beautiful but the play in the end of the game, when the ball hit the bar, for itself, could give him the MVP. So what do you think?

‘Torcedor Colorado’ is ready for action

Thursday, 14 December 06, 03:11 AM

The Internacional fans are probably the most excited about the Fifa Club WC Japan 2006. About one thousand fans came all the way from Porto Alegre, south Brazil, in a journey that can take more than 30 hours.

Most of them arrived on Thursday and have painted the town red (literally!) , wearing their Colorado (Internacional’s nickname) jerseys all over Tokyo.

They even prepared a special song for Ronaldinho, former Gremio player (greatest rivals of Inter). Something like “Ronaldinho chokes in big matches, the best in the World is Fernandao (Inter’s captain). LISTEN TO THIS 'SPECIAL SONG' here, in Portuguese.
