The Breakers Are Looking to Get a Play off Spot

Tuesday, 28 July 09, 12:29 PM

Sorry all but i have been in New Orleans for the past week.  The Breakers only had a 0-0 draw against Sky Blue Fc.  The Breakers dominated against Sky Blue in the first half but just could not get any thing in the net.

Alli Lipsher got her  thrid shut out and is going a Breakers high 323 minutes with out letting the ball go by.  The Breakers defense   did a great job containing the sky blue defense.

Great shots came from a lot of different people including Kristine Lilly, Alex Scott and Jennie Nobis.  But none of the shots could hit the back of the net.

"Jenni Branam made some great saves,” said DiCicco. “But our quality in front of the goal just isn’t good enough and it’s kind of plagued us all season long."

Stats:

Total Shots: SBFC 7 BOS 16; Shots on Goal: SBFC 1 BOS 8; Saves: Jenni Branam (SBFC) 8, Alli Lipsher (BOS) 1; Corners: SBFC 6 BOS 1; Fouls: SBFC 6 BOS 5; Offsides: SBFC 4 BOS 2.

"I thought that we played pretty well today," said Breakers head coach Tony DiCicco. "Late in the game I think we just ran ourselves out trying to get a goal, so they had a couple of chances, but I thought we played pretty well. If we go out with that sort of endeavor, we should be fine.”

Moving On Up

Monday, 20 July 09, 10:09 PM

The Breakers move in to second place after their win against FC Gold Pride on Sunday.  It was a great game because the Breakers were missing a few of their players due to National Team obligation.  They Include Heather Mitts, Angela Hucles, Amy LePeilbet and Amy Rodriguez, were Called up to play in a friendly against Canada.  With  That said I would like to give a congratulations to Abby Wambach for scoring her 100th goal.

With The opening line up being changed Some Players had to step up.  Some of these players include Kacey Moore, Erika Sutton, Fabiana, and Kelly SchmedesKelly Schmedes steped up big time, scoring her first goal.  It came in the 13th minute.  Mary-Frances Monroe Gave her a good ball and she placed it perfectly to find the back of the net early.  Allison Lipsher Had earned the shut out to put the Breakers in second.

The Breakers seemed to be on the defense for the second half because the shot ratio was 9-1 so they didn't make many shots. The total shot count was 11-9, Breakers with 9,   Fabiana also got a yellow card in the 59th minute.

Also the All-Star game voting has began.  You can vote at http://www.womensprosoccer.com/AllStars.  So make sure you vote for your favorites.  Kristin Luckenbill,  Sue Weber, Alex Scott, Heather Mitts, Amy LePeilbet Kristine Lilly, Angela Hucles, A- Rod, and Kelly Schmedes are all up for a spot so if you want to see the Breakers on the field for the All-Star game i'd vote now.

Breakers Back on Track

Thursday, 16 July 09, 05:10 AM

Yesterday, the Breakers took on the chicago Red Stars.  It was a close game and well fought by both teams.  The win still keeps them in thrid but now only 2 points behind St. Louis and won the series.

It got started in the 35th minute, Kristine Lilly sent a long ball that Angela Hucles picked up, one touched it, and found the back of the net.  This was her second goal for the season with a great assist by Lilly.

After the first half the Breakers seemed to be more focused on preventing the Red Stars from scoring rather then trying for a second goal.  The Red Stars out shot the Breakers 13 to 2 in the second half.    In the 64th minute, There was a very close call.  Mary-Frances Monroe deflected, on the goal line, Jill Oakes' shot.  They Kept the pressure up but, the  Defense did a great job, keeping it 1-0 for the rest of the game.

“I thought we were very good in the first half, and we knew that they would push out a lot more,” said head coach Tony DiCicco.  “We chose to stay with the 4-5-1 and looked for counter attack opportunities. I don’t think we got enough of those. I think we were a little bit too eager, and gave up the ball too much.  They had chances to score.  We bent, but we didn’t break. I’m really proud of the players.” AS you can see Tony DiCicco Was very happy with the outcome of this game.

Here are the stats from the game:

Stats
Total Shots: CHI 21 BOS 11; Shots on Goal: CHI 4 BOS 5; Saves: Caroline Jonsson (CHI) 4, Alli Lipsher (BOS) 3; Corners: CHI 5 BOS 5; Fouls: CHI 2 BOS 3; Offsides: CHI 4 BOS 8.
Also Carli Lloyd got a yellow card in the 59th minute

Breakers Fall twice to Sky Blue

Monday, 13 July 09, 09:03 AM

The Breakers Have fallen twice to Sky Blue FC.  In the First game an early goal by Heather O'Reilly put Sky Blue FC ahead.  The Goal came off of a corner in the sixth minute.  The Breakers had plenty of shots, some coming from A-Rod, Angela Hucles, Kelly Smith, and Half time sub Jennie Nobis.  Every Shot they took SBFC's Keeper,  Jenni Branam, was there to make stops on all of them.  No matter where they placed the ball she some how stoped it.

Stats Are as Followed:

Total Shots: SBFC 13 BOS 12; Shots on Goal: SBFC 8 BOS 6; Saves: Jenni Branam (SBFC) 5, Alli Lipsher (BOS) 6; Corners: SBFC 5 BOS 5; Fouls: SBFC 11 BOS 6; Offsides: SBFC 7 BOS 3.

The Breakers Then Took on Sky Blue FC again and again they lost but this time it was 2-1.  Natasha Kai got SBFC started by scoring a goal in the 24th minute.  Then another goal From SbFC Came from Rosana in the 37th minute.  But then in stoppage time Jennifer Nobis connected and scored a goal but it just wasn't enough when the final whistle blew.  Again the Breakers put up a good fight but just could not connect.

A- Rod Scores Winning Goal

Monday, 22 June 09, 11:29 AM

Yesterday was a very exciding game.  The Breakers are now back on track.  They picked up three Points from yesterday's 2 - 0 win.  This put the Breakers in to 3rd place.

The Amy Rodriguez, A-Rod, got the ball rolling by scoring her first of the season in the 22nd minute.  Kristine Lilly sent the ball down the Left side where A-Rod found it and placed it perfectly on the lower left side of goal.  This put the Breakers ahead 1-0 for most of the game, untill Kristine Lilly added a goal of her own, in the first minute of stoppage time.  She was awarded a penalty shot when Nikki Krzysik, Chicago's Defender, fouled Jennie Nobis.  When Lilly went to take a shot, she sent Chicago's keeper to the wrong side of the net, and it put the breakers up 2-0 for the win.

Alli Lipsher got her first the shutout of the season. One of the saves she made includes a one-on-one with Lindsay Tarpley which is shown in the picture above.  It was a great save that she came up with.

Chicago had a commanding lead in shots, 13 - 4.  The breakers only got 2 of those four on goal, Chicago 5.  This game was also very high with fouls having a total of 26.  Boston had 11 and Chicago 15.  Kelly Smith Had also been given a yellow card in the 16th minute.

This was a great game for the Breakers.  Hopefully they will keep Racking up the Points from now on.
