Everton got the home win needed.Mikel Arteta curled home a 10th-minute free-kick and saw a volley deflect in off Danny Collins after another set- piece went straight into the wall .
Carlos Edwards tested Tim Howard from long range but Dan Gosling rounded off the win after Joleon Lescott squared the ball to him in the box.
