Everton survived some late pressure as a solitary goal proved enough for them to advance to round four.
Nathaniel Brown went close with an early header for the hosts, but Leon Osman struck the winner into the top corner from 25 yards to seal it .
Victor Anichebe’s curler went just wide and though the hosts had late chances through Danny Thomas and Terry Dunfield, they could not draw level.
