The Guardian, Kevin McCarra: "The road to the final against Manchester United in Moscow on May 21 was as long and hard as Chelsea expected. In their third Champions League semi-final against Liverpool since 2005 the Stamford Bridge team have vanquished Rafael Benítez's side at last."
Daily Telegraph, Henry Winter: "Frank Lampard last night struck the most poignant and significant goal of his fine career, driving home an extra-time penalty to take the Blues to Red Square. As he wheeled away in celebration, Lampard sought out his father, sharing an emotional moment a week after the midfielder's mother passed away."
The Independent, Sam Wallace: "If you could just tear yourself away for a second from the extraordinary game that was unfolding it was worth considering the poignancy of Lampard's personal journey. Moments earlier with the game at 1-1, playing in his first match back since the death of his mother Pat on Thursday, Lampard had taken the penalty that virtually decided this game. That was something special, but on the night that Chelsea finally made good on Roman Abramovich's personal investment, there was plenty to admire among the men in blue shirts."
The Times, Martin Samuel: "What a player. What a man. What an absolute diamond of a footballer. The critics, the haters, they cannot touch Frank Lampard now. Not after last night. Not after that penalty. He won, they lost. What more is there to say? Didier Drogba’s second goal of the night might have made Lampard’s penalty, given when Sami Hyypia fouled Michael Ballack, superfluous, but not at the time it was not. When Lampard stood over it, in the eighth minute of extra time, it was about the bravest act most in the stadium had seen from a professional athlete."
Official Chelsea FC Website, Andy Jones: "It was a night to remember for everybody linked with Chelsea, and the image of Didier Drogba and Steve Clarke bouncing along to Madness hit One Step Beyond will live long in the memory. Roll on Moscow."

There’s a scene in my all time favourite movie, Pulp Fiction, where Butch the washed up boxer, when asked by his girlfriend where he’d been, after being the target of a hit man sent by his predatory paymaster Marcellus Wallace to exact revenge for not taking a fall as agreed, killing said hit man on the toilet whilst he was cooking pop tarts having gone home to get his watch that had been kept up the arse of his dad’s soldier mate for two years in Vietnam, then run over Marcellus Wallace who was carrying MacDonald’s breakfast, before being kidnapped by two red necks, tied up and almost raped before knocking out The Gimp, breaking free, rejecting a host of DIY instruments to adopt an ornamental samurai sword in order to kill one red neck and maim the other thus freeing Marcellus Wallace but earning his freedom, answers her with, “This has without doubt been the single weirdest fucking day of my life.”
Yep Butch, that applies to this week and this season if you’re a Chelsea fan.
Despite my protestations to all and sundry that I wasn’t bothered about this game, that it was a win-win with Avram Grant going if we lost, but a Champions League final and victory over Rafael Benitez the flip side if we won, the dreadful truth was I couldn’t eat this evening, couldn’t drink, couldn’t think and couldn’t stop shaking inside. Football matters, football hurts and football is unique in that, aside from ‘love’, nothing else generates this feeling and passion. No wonder the St. John’s Ambulance are at every game. From next year I might suggest to Roman Abramovich and gang that they despatch them to the homes of every Chelsea fan watching at home as well. I mean... sack our most successful coach, draft in an unknown and unqualified replacement, plagued by injuries again, losing players to the Africa Nations Cup, losing to Spurs at Wembley, losing to Barnsley in the FA Cup, producing the world’s worst game of football against Benitez’s gang in the league at Stamford Bridge, coming from behind to beat Arsenal, setting the world alight against Manchester United on Saturday... the list just goes on.
And then tonight...
Discussed at length with the numbskulls and voices in my head.
Blimey, what a choice... Drogs for his two goals? Essien for being so bloody brilliant? Ballack for running more than anyone else even on an empty tank? John Terry for being a true captain?. Sorry peeps, for having balls the size of water melons during a time of adversity - Frank Lampard, take the bouquet and the bow me old mucker. Inspirational.
I’m exhausted. What a season. What a week. What a night. What a game. It may not have been a purists' delight. It may not have had North London Circus football or Catalan flair. It had everything an English cup tie should have. A lucky team playing a tactical game based on fresher legs carrying a big reputation, and a team hated by the media and neutrals everywhere for having the temerity to find a rich benefactor, but with a sense of doggedness that would make Columbo proud.
A game that to’d and fro’d, where the pendulum of luck swung either way, alongside the pendulum of grit, the pendulum of skill and the pendulum of passion. So many pendulums were in action one can only imagine there are a lot of silent grandfather clocks in London tonight. We were the better team over the 180 minutes, although a little credit goes to Liverpool for spotting our usual habit of falling into a second half/one goal lead malaise and capitalising on it through the impressive Torres. Steven Gerrard was kept quite by Ricardo Carvalho and Terry in front of goal, and Ballack showed him how to command midfield alongside our much maligned Frank. On tonight’s performance we saw why Frank is better than Gerrard, and why Terry is a better captain.
It was a night for us, but also for English football, surely now firmly back on the European map and back in the big time. Can anyone imagine two teams from Spain or Italy producing such a feast? No, me neither. But on a night like this, I say bollocks to the purists, because this is real football, ugly, passionate, hot, sweaty, grasping, desperate and relieving. And it’s over in one go. Just like a one night stand.
Keep the Blue Flag Flying High!
The good
Frank Lampard. Given what Lampard's been through this past week I'll admit that I was surprised and a tad concerned when I saw his name on the team sheet. But he declared himself ready to play and was fit, and a fit Lampard should always be in the starting eleven. It's difficult to put into words just how much admiration I have for him; to put in a performance like that seven days after losing his mum - remarkable. A legend.
Didier Drogba. "It's very personal what [Rafael Benitez] said. I'm doing everything to promote English football and I'm doing my best. It's not good." Drogba post match. Well Didier, you did your talking on the pitch, where it matters most. You were simply awesome. When you play like that you're the best in the world. The look on Benitez's face after you scored was priceless. Fantastic celebration too.
Avram Grant. Who'd have thought it, eh? Avram Grant has taken us to our first European Cup final. Avram effing Grant! I need to get my emotions in check before commenting further... but deep down I think I'm warming to him. These past few days have more than made up for the embarrassment of the League Cup final defeat to Spurs and the capitulation at Barnsley in the FA Cup quarter-finals. Or have they? Yeah, they definitely have. We're in the European Cup final! Hmm... but I'm not sure. Nicolas Anelka on the wing again? Anelka did make Drogba's second goal. Perhaps Grant does know what he's doing. We're in the effing European Cup final! Yeah, I'm warming to Grant and he deserves at least another season at the helm. Steve Clarke needs to stay too, though. We're in the European Cup final!
Glancing at my second monitor and seeing 'Eat My Goal' by Collapsed Lung at the top of an iTunes Party Shuffle playlist moments before we scored. This synchronicity was ruined by the linesman who disallowed Michael Essien's goal. The bastard.
The bad
The second half. We were pretty poor and invited Liverpool on to us. It was just a matter of time before they scored. Fortunately extra time has a first half and we finished them off before nearly effing it up in the second half of extra time. There's a pattern developing...
Man of the Match
Frank Lampard. Amazing.
Final thought
Revenge is sweet.
Had the privilege of watching on ESPN2 here in America. Absolutely thrilled, having recovered from the nerve-jangling unease derived from the atmosphere in general and particularly from Cech's miscue in the closing minutes.
The go-ahead goal from Super Frankie Lampard couldn't be more poetic. Surely a day to remember.
Just like a one night stand, but, we will come and keeping coming back for more !!
Guys, I have that 'tired smile' on my face, the one I was hoping for. The moments of the match were explosions of joy, poignancy, despair and then happiness.
Though, we are saving the biggest explosion of pure unadulterated ECSTASY for the 21st of May.
PAINT THE KREMLIN BLUE !! Chelsea are marching to Moscow !!
GO BLUES !!
Great report Tony!!!!
Best sex I've had in years!!!!!!!
Well done to all our guys - fabulous play, fabulous team spirit
and go on, you know you all want to.........
give a few compliments to Avram - especially on a really hard and emotional night for him. He may not be the special one but he is the solid one, the lucky one and the underestimated one
we are gonna win this one - bring on Moscow!!!!!!!!!!
What can I say that I didn't shout at the TV at the end (which woke up half the street...!). Bloody fantastic, Frank in particular for his courage in taking the penalty and his allround game but everyone on the team and bench for the passion, grit and determination to give us fans another glorious night to remember.
The real glory is still to come in 3 weeks time but let is all soak up the moment when we finally beat Liverpool in Europe, finally won a semi final and finally reached the final of the best club competition in the world.
There were tears in my eyes has Frank stood there steely eyed before taking the penalty as i KNEW he would score... I could feel it and then when he broke down on the pitch... wow... what can you say other than to doff your hat to the man.
Other highlights, Essien's amazing bulldozing run where he nearly scored... Drogba's single minded determination to grind every liverpool player into the sodden pitch... his pointed celebration in front of Tubby and most of 4 fantastic goals (Essien's should have be allowed).
I too have to doff my hat to AG having been an ardent critic of our performances in the past. There is still a problem with our half time talks given the way we play in the second half when we have a lead, but bugger that... AG, SC and the team have won through to the CL final and that is all that matters right now.
All those lucky enough to make the trip enjoy the biggest night in this proud clubs history and maybe.. just maybe.. you will seem the team make history by winning their first European Cup and be the first London team to win it.
I can't wait.. ! But of course there is the small matter of winning 2 prem games to win the title...
KTBFFH
Tubby was cheeky and tried to poke the bear. What happens? He got mauled real hard...
Do we have to have a post-coitus cuddle? Can't I just get up and watch Sky Sports?
To be fair to Liverpool fans, as I listened to TalkSport on the way home, they were all calling in and congratulating Chelsea and hoping we go on and win the final. I know the last bit is because they all hate Man U but even so they were all surprisingly magnanimous in defeat.
As vivid as my dream was the night before the game and the incorrect scoreline I predicted, the end result was the same a win for the mighty blues. All the symptoms that have been described by us fans on this blog about anxieties, sleepless nights and loss of appetite, effected all of us as if some mass virus had struck us down. But the treatment and cure was simple and effective, just go out and win, and our beloved Chelsea, along with Avram, did just that last night.
I also had my first slice of a very large humble pie, and if we go on to win one, or both of these trophies the rest will follow with lashings of cream and a huge fucking cherry on top.
And finally thank you Senor Benitez the tactical genius, thank you very very much for the inspired team talk you gave our boys, especially Didier, who showed you last night what big players can do in big games.
AND FINALLY....TAXI FOR GERRARD! WE THINK HE WAS THERE SOMEWHERE ON THE PITCH IN A RED JERSEY.
PS Brilliant report Tony by the way.
See - We are there boys - no danger.
All the boys were great - i didnt watch the penalty to be honest. Yup i had my eyes firmy shut and was sat in my seat relying on the crowd to guide me - i swear the elation when they started going crazy was like nothing else.
On a night like this it does wonders for bonding with those sat around you.
A few helpful phrases for the trip/game in line with the excellent write up by Mr Glover:
what the fuck? - `tchyo za ga`lima?
how old are you - skolko vam let
you are pretty (to a woman) - ty krasivaya
i love you - ya tebya lyublyu
asshole - mu'dak
Did anyone else struggle to sleep last night - i was so overjoyed that is seemed like an eternity for me to calm down enough to sleep!! Struggling today.
Cheers Tony, enjoyed the report. What a fucking fantastic night. Have to agree with Frank being MoM. Also thought Ashley Cole did really well. They all did, maybe even Kalou. And as for Essien.........the guy's a machine. Always thought he needs to be in the middle but he was every bloody where from right back last night. Very very satisfying night. Three massive games to go.................
What a night so proud of the team really proud pf lamps. scousers only sing when there winning.
I shall put thoughts to the blog when I'm a little more together.
What a night. All together now - you can stick your f**king history up your arse...
great report tony, i'm still in shock...couldn't watch the pen..i had to leave the room, but what a fucking result....what a match...bring on united..AVRAM Forgive me for some my comments about you.....and I hope it pissed down on the fucking scouse scum on their way back up north.
WELL DONE BOYS, YOU DID US PROUD!
@ Everyone - when the penalty came I despatched myself to B-i-L's back garden in the pissing rain with my fingers in my ears singing la la la......which was apt because I was pretty ga-ga at this point anyway.
B-i-L's wife, Nicky came out and very gently said these beautiful words "Frank took it.....and he got it" ...I could have bloody cried.
In my next next life I want to follow a boring sport please.
Just a quick note Tony on the song titles for the boys, I think you should change Lamps to the Led Zep classic, because he took us to heaven last night.
@ Clive, I'll try harder but it was 1:30am - and Abba were at the top of my iTunes list!
You're forgiven Tony, impressive reporting for such a late hour. ;-)
Great article Tony. Fulham was buzzing last night. There was thirty men crouching to 'one man went to moe' at the crossing of Fulham Road and Harwood, great atomasphere.
I'm still buzzing from the win. This was down to Avram Grant's tactics and our player's hunger to be in the Champions League final. I'm full of confidence that we will beat ManUtd in Moscow.
When walking home down the northend road one old chap was whispering "Avram Grant's blue and white army" I said i think it's time Avram gets his own song.
KEEP THE BLUE FLAG FLYING HIGH!
@Tony
Came on the blog to find something nice to read and wow you just decided to write crap...I am just thinking to keep the quality of the blog such high sex tonation be kept to oneself...I was totally disgusted! Guess it could be the drink...
@ Nick
3. Nick Benfield · 2:28 AM · 1st May
Thanks for keeping with the norm. Lovely game by the boys
@Jose
to keep the quality of the blog such high sex tonation be kept to oneself
Yikes, that'll severely limit my postings! Still if I've got to keep sex tonation to myself surely I'll go blind and won't be able to see the final?
Mary Whitehouse lives.
Top knee-trembler Tony; blogging Viagra at its very best :-)
@ Jose. Fuck off. Go somewhere else, you've fucked off about the only ally you had. I don't do abuse. But you're a fucking twat.
@Mark
Go blind? we did not go this way with our previous Premiership wins guess it must be Avram Grant or Chelsea reaching the finals...whichever I think it is bad influence...Makes us out like Arsenal fans...really bad taste
@ Tony
Actually I intend to...this blog has gone way below the quality it had when I first got here about 3-4 years back and willing I will say adieu...
LMAO at TG - 28
To keep the theme - jose - please dont go, nooooooooooooo, please dont go.
Jose are you a munk?
The sexual remarks were/are brilliant. I think TG must be an amateur though as there is no mention of the reach around!! Only a true master can perform that puppy!
If we are going for no sexual remarks then Clive/Lolli are fooked!
I dread to think what this place will be like if we actually win the thing; it'll be a full-on Bacchanalian orgy.
Reasons For The Change In Form
1) Return of 'The Bison' - Whether at right back or in midfield, Michael Essien's form in the last month has been nothing short of spectacular. He provides us with so much drive and simpy seems to bulldoze his way through players. An absolute star.
2) Ashley Cole's incident with the referee at Spurs - Is it my imagination, or has our luck with refs changed since the Cole incident? Ever since we stopped harassing the referee at every opportunity, the 50/50 calls have started to go our way. We are a far more likeable team and I have even seen a few positive comments from the 'haters'.
3) Pat Lampard - With the greatest of respect, our team spirit, which let's face it had appeared to be on the wane, has been totally galvanised in the last week. The team have rallied around Frank and his family and we now look like the 'Band of Brothers' that was first formed under Jose.
4) Der Kaiser - Has there ever been a more arrogant looking player than Michael Ballack? His casual approach, which many originally took for not giving a shit, is now almost an aloof swagger. It is no coincidence that he is always the player covering the most km's in the Champions League games. When required to stand up and lead, he does, when required to take a back seat, he does so without making a fuss. An absolute diamond..... How long does he have to leave in the UK before he can trade his German passport in.
and finally
5) Avram Grant. Originally we said he couldn't beat big teams. Well now we have Arse, Scum, Mancs all now slayed. Then I said, he couldn't change the game with substitutions. They have improved out of sight, and last night he turned around a gam that was slipping away in the 2nd half. Better than that though, he has made both Sir RedNose look pathetic with his whinging and the Fat Spanish Waiter look absolutely pants at 'Mind Games' inside 4 days. Like others have mentioned, he is winning me over. I do hope this season doesn't finish without us winning anything.... Avram deserves better than that for his efforts and the 'Rocky' pose after the Utd game, and the kneeling on the turf after the Scum were 2 moments that will long live in my memory. They show how much he cares for Chelsea and the lads. But they also show respect for tradition, himself and others. He isn't 'The Special One', but he does deserve his own place in Chelsea history.
SO, there you have it...... My top 5 reasons why this season has been turned around. There are a few others that deserve a mention of late (Ricky, JT, Ash, DD)..... If we can continue this form through 3 more games, we will end the season with something to show for it... Dare To Dream!
Oh.... And Fuck off from me too Musumba.....
Your rantings are predictable bollocks and you could never be more wrong than you have been about Frank Lampard....A true Chelsea Legend, unlike yourself!
i am simply ecstatic. at 1:1 and after babel's goal i "knew" - that's it, we'll blow it again.
but, we didn't.
am away on a bussines trip and this blog is the only place right now, where i can express my emotions...if i could find the right words.
great game, great win...and now premiership and moscow.
ps if i was writing a report about the two semifinal matches i would name it "Riise and fall of Rafa Benitez". ;)
If we are going for no sexual remarks then Clive/Lolli are fooked!
@Munkey
If we play and win like that, I'll be happy to be fooked by anyone!!
i guess with that open minded nature it doubles your chances of a date!!
I wonder if jose is spitting his dummy out reading all this devil speak.
We're all going to hell. But it will have been fun...
He's made more comebacks that Sinatra and Status Quo put together though...
Huge respect to Lampard for stepping up to take that pen.
He has more bottle than gerrard can only dream of.
OMG, I've just come back to London from a long overseas trip, and what a Welcome Back gift from my beloved Chelsea!
Is it a dream or is it real?... It's a bloody miracle! It's like the Red Sea opened up for the Blue Army to cross to the promised land!
Let us get the Euro holy grail now!
Is Musumba leaving?
Double YAY!
Yes the day just gets better doesn't it!
There's a photo in one of this morning's papers which summarises it for me. After the penalty, Frank Lampard is on his knees with his eyes closed, almost in in a different world, Didier Drogba is on one knee with his arms around Frank's shoulders and Ricardo Carvalho is standing behind Lampard, also with a comforting hand. It's like an Italian Renaissance masterpiece.
On a side issue with regard the Russian Visas, why has this become such a problem? Surely UEFA knew that Visas were required, and the likely hood was that it would be teams outside Russia getting to the final. If there were going to be problems, why did they pick Moscow, oh wait a minute this is UEFA incompetence is their middle name.
Jose's reaction was so OTT it's made me wonder if Jose is Tony's repressed alter ego, perhaps some sort of dual personality. Always being a contrarian, talking bollocks (oops, in a non-sexual sense I mean) - as JMc almost said, he cannnot be serious.
As all have said before me, what a night, what a game, and what a lot of heros. I totally agree with Greenlight's comments (#37) regarding 5 key reasons why we are playing better. And like many of you out there, I'm softening towards Avram. I like the fact that Avram's quiet nature has helped expose Rafa for the unpleasant idiot he has been since he came to the 'poo', whereas TSO would have led with the bombast. I was absolutely certain before the match yesterday that Didier would play the game of his life, because of Rafa.
My hope now is that Didier, who as we know is incredibly emotional, can be the most irritating footballer to watch and on his day is the best in the world at what he does, will now emotional buy into the post-Mourinho Chelsea. Also, with Superfrank being shown the genuine love by all at Chelsea, his teammates, Avram and us, I think he will stay. With Essien and Obi proving their potential - magnificent against Man Utd. And finally, Herr Ballack, words fail me. Man Utd trying to distract him from his penalty was laughable. And the way he froze Didier out when DD was going mad with him - the man is made of ice and steel. What a midfield.
Unfortunately I couldn't get tickets for last night, so I went with my brother and friends to a sports bar in town - full of scousers. I spotted a fellow chelsea fan and we got talking at the end. It turns out he is a friend of Avram's (through kids at school) and has had dinner parties with him etc. He said that AG was working on the assumption that he would manage us next year, though he conceded that with Abramovich, nothing could be taken for Granted, and nothing was certain. Apparently Huntelaar is a certainty and RVDV is very keen on us - but let's see. I can't believe I'm writing this, but I am warming to AG.
Final highlights:
1) I was wrong, I thought SuperFrank should have been a supersub - he was magnificent. A few weeks ago I might have been inclined to say that it is an example of AG's weakness that he couldn't be strong with Frank, or JT or DD
2) Frank taking the penalty. Again I was shouting at the screen that we shouldn't risk Frank's emotions going wrong, when we had Ze German in the wings. How wrong was I
3) The penalty celebration - I must be getting old, but the picture of Frank ands 3 others kneeling on the ground, reminded me of the conquering Christian warriors that yoiu could find in countless works at the Uffizzi or the National Gallery. I have to stop myself from crying just thinking about it (have just seen Emerald Blue's comment #50 above - totally agree)
4) Didier Drogba. The goals - how good were they, especially the first
5) DD's first goal celebration - did he dive or slide towards Rafa?
6) AG's demeanour, kneeling post-match, and his substitutions
7) Steve Clarke's expression - he almost looked happy for the first time since TSO left
8) The behaviour of JT and the team with referees since the Spurs/Ashley incident
9) Nic's cross
10) Non-stop Essien, and his goal that should have been
11) The fact that we did it without my favourite player, Joe Cole, really showing
12) Seeing Sheva play his part - almost a pity he didn't have to clear a certain goal by StevieMe at the end of the match
well done . i am a liverpool fan , hope you go all the way . i must how ever , point out a few mis givings about the treatment i and my friends recived last night at the bridge . we had tickets suplied to us by ford , one of the champion lg sponsor s . we were not in the liverpool end , we were in the west stand, an area set aside for these block tickets . when tores scored , we were elated , no swearing no bad language , no un ruly behaviour . the next thing u know , 10 or so stewards appeard , singled a friend of mine out and turfed him out of the ground ....end of . ive been to a lot of grounds up and down the country , and i think this sort of treatment is well out of order . well done again .
Sorry peeps, about the language but by God he chose the wrong day to annoy me!
Still running on adrenalin, but when that runs out I'll probably drop where I stand. Scousers at work today are rarer than a snog with The Pope! Ooops there I go again, upsetting the moral minority.......
@ Lozer, its a sad fact that common sense often fails Stewards and anybody else prepared to dress in bright yellow tabards. The exception is us in our second strip of course.
Utterly superb report Tony with great extended metaphor - and if it makes Jose Musumba take his repetitive nonsense somewhere else at least for a while then even better.
Just a few other memories not already mentioned above from a second heart stopping game in a week:
1) the flag briefly hung over the top tier of Matthew Harding early on - "Making History, Not Reliving It" and why did some officious steward apparently insist it be removed?
2) "One Step Beyond" now clearly established as the ultimate post big game victory celebration that can even make a 2-left feet non-dancer like me shuffle about inanely
3) All those dedicated Scouser fans streaming out of their end with 5 minutes still to go in extra time just before Babel scored.
4) Skipping through my recording of Sky's coverage when I got home [partly to check extra time really did pan out as I remembered it] and wondering just how much they pay Andy Gray to come up with nothing deeper than a repeated "Wow!" - hey as Yosser Hughes put it "I could do that" - but then back to Tony's theme in the post-match "expert" discussion when someone pointed out that Abramovich hasn't been at a game since L Cup final and Souness instantly quipped "Yes, but have you seen his girlfriend?"
More reflective thought this morning - I think @ Greenlight No 37 is spot on with points 1-4 about what's turned the season but I just can't make up my mind about 5.
As one of those BOFs on here who've been season ticket holders for over 30 years my mind has been going back to my first season at The Bridge [1976-77] when Eddie McCreadie's young side won promotion back to the top division and we really felt we had the basis to progress. The Board promply screwed up re-negotiating his contract and he left in disgust. They made an internal appointment, we had one average season [with a great FA Cup win over Liverpoo] and then plummeted disastrously to relegation.
I really don't know whether Avram has now won the right to another season or if he's just a lucky internal appointment who should be kicked upstairs and someone with an established record installed to really move us on?
But hey we can still dream first of snatching the double away from Old Purplenose for a few more weeks - Come on Chels!
By some miracle we got tickets for the game last night. Two observations:
The first 15-20 minutes were the loudest I have ever witnessed at the Bridge - incredible!
Loved the banner in the North Stand Upper 'Chelsea - Making history not reliving it' - absolutely.
Moscow here we come!
Sorry to hear that Lozer, but the club gets very nervy about away fans in the home ends because these things can turn nasty quite quickly.
Good post Z, especially about Rafa finally getting shown up to be the snide hypocrite we've always known he is.
Interesting also that JT's performances have improved markedly since he stopped hassling the ref - chicken and egg? I've always believed that he was acting like an arse because he was unhappy with his own displays, but he's getting back to his best and the self-confidence and level-headedness is returning.
@Jose Musumba
Jose, you might like or do not like this review and this is your right to do so. To tell you the truth I find this review pretentious, just my opinion Tony. However, I think you (Jose) should not shut the door like a small kid that thinks that everybody hates him. This blog is probably one of the best in the country and your participation in this blog in a way made it so. And one more thing Jose there is something in common we all share and it is.... CHELSEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a night! Truely Amazing! Sums up the Red Scousers - "Horrible players, horrible strip, horrible fans. Undignified, whining wasters." It feels so fucking good to knock these scums out - and we did it in 2 competitions this season, mind.
Didier Drogba. What else can you say about him? By a distance, the best striker in the world. Scored over 15 goals this season, where he missed more than half the matches (35+) - with him and Lamps fit we definitely wouldn't have had the large goal diff at the Premiership. The matches that Drogs has scored for us, as well:
Carling Cup Final v Liverpool
Carling Cup Final v Arsenal (2)
Carling Cup Final v Spurs
FA Cup Final v Manchester United
Premiership v Arsenal (2) this year
Champions League v Valencia away this year
Champions League Semi Final v Liverpool (2)
...and many others
Absolutely crucial goals in the BIG matches against the top teams and in most cases they were the match - and trophy - winning goals. Quite frankly, without him we would have won a bit less than 5 trophies in last 3 years and would not be in the position we are this year - Champions League Final and at top of the Primiership (level with Man U in points). I still don't think he gets the plaudits that he truely deserves - I don't expect it from that filthy Fat Spanish wa*ker - but from Chelsea supporters as well. He deserves a bit more for what he has done for our football club. By the way, what a celebration! Right in front of Rafa! Simply Awesome!
Lamps - Incredible. That's all I can say after what you did yesterday - after what you have been through. Super? Blimey, that's an understatement!
Finally, Avram. Well done. The first manager to take the club to a Champions League Final.
We are going to Moscow! Still on course for a Double! Come on the Chels!!!
Good God Musumba, what's wrong with you? You won't be missed.
@ Lozer -- appreciate the post. There was an incident in the Carling semi home leg when an Everton fan who'd got in among the home support leaped up to celebrate their equaliser. He was immediately assaulted by some Chelsea lads. Not his fault except for sitting in the wrong area, but you can see why the stewards get a bit nervy.
If there are any other 'poo fans about, I'm curious about who you hate more, us or the Mancs -- or will you just not watch the final?
My analysis of how the season has turned around:
1) Arse disintegrated. They made a nutjob captain of a callow team, and when things started going against them they couldn't hack it. Funny how everyone in the media is now talking about the CL final being between "the two best teams in England", when all season long everyone's been saying that Arse were actually the best, it's just that they didn't always win. People have short memories (a theme I'll return to...) Anyway, the collapse of the Arse has helped us a lot.
2) Mancs dropped points. Since I can't bear even to watch them I have no idea why this happened. They do seem to have a few fairly average players.
3) We *visibly* raised our game against opponents we wanted to beat. For most of the season apart from a patch in Jan/Feb we've been playing not that well, scraping by 1-0 against mid-table outfits, or conceding weird numbers of goals. We've drawn against weaker teams; we've slacked off in winning positions. We progressed through the CL playing badly against unimpressive teams. By all accounts we were poor against the 'poo up at Anfield last week, and we had an outrageous slice of luck. Then, suddenly, on Saturday, a hunger and relentlessness appeared pretty much out of nowhere. You could feel it in the crowd as well as in the team. It was as if they, and we, had decided enough was enough and it was time at last to try and show what we could do: a feeling that may well have been provoked by the self-proclaimed champions-elect arriving on our pitch. It was there again last night, and again, you have to suspect that it came from the desperation we all felt as the 'poo threatened to take the CL final away from us a third time.
It'll be very very interesting to see if the same fiery urgency is there on Monday.
4) We've had some luck at critical moments recently.
5) and I agree with Greenlight that a few key players have rediscovered their lost form, most notably Cashley and Essien.
I'm going to eat my share of the humble pie and give Average every ounce of deserved credit for getting us much, much further than I ever thought we'd get this season. He's been quiet and steady under the pressure and the ridicule, and if the suits decide that he's earned an extra year, I won't be able to grudge him it. (Let's see how the next three games go, though, before we assume that's likely.)
However. I'm not going to agree with Greenlight that Average is part of the turnaround. Looking at the body language of the players as they came off on Saturday, I still don't feel he has their full respect. Maybe he deserves their respect, maybe they're being as unfair on him as we are, who knows: but I don't think he has it. It was very touching to see his incredible relief when he sank to his knees last night, but did anyone else think how alone he looked? It was a fan's reaction, the kind of thing you'd do if you were watching the game at home on the telly: he didn't seem to be sharing it with the team, or they with him. Anyway, that's all circumstantial evidence, but in essence I don't see that something has happened in the team which can plausibly be put down to him -- unless you argue that for some reason his message finally got through to the players last Saturday, after not quite getting through from September through most of April.
It's the short memories thing. We're giving him credit now because we feel good (ahhhh the sex). We're giving him tons of credit because we feel *really* good (mmmmm do that thing again, ooo yeah, like that). Just like we all unloaded on him at the end of the Wigan game because we felt miserable (what headache???).
So, after the cold shower, I'm not convinced (still) that he's a good manager for this team.
But. You just can't argue with results like those last two. So if he stays, I won't be able to complain. He's earned that much, no argument from me.
Of course there are three games to go, and after them everyone will have a different set of results not to be able to argue with.
My opinion on Grant stays the same as it was from 14 of July 2007. He is not the manager for Chelsea.
Have to agree with Syed and said it on the Guardian blog this morning:
Drogba is the best big-game player in Europe, bar none.
The Drog is an absolute monster; if he stays in that kind of mood until May 21, we're in with a cracking chance.
as long as he has his stabalisers with him he is good.
Q - who moans more Jimmy Floyd or DD?
Jimmy was the only player who wouldscore and then moan about something but i have to admit i did love that crazy dutchman.
All liverpool fans i know are p/t chelsea fans now - they HATE man u - hence why the 2 clubs would never do business together.
Jimmy probably moaned and dived every bit as much as Drogba. Imagine those two together?
What do Clive's Scousers have to say about the game and atmosphere? 'You can stick your fucking history up your arse' was long overdue.
I'd say Jimmy and Drogs were about equal, and whilst the former was one hell of a goalscorer, he wasn't even 10% the footballer that Drogs is.
Like a man with an empty pants drawer clawing through the old laundry basket for an old pair that might be wearable, I spent half of last nights game casting around for coping strategies that might help when the inevitable happened and it all went tits.
But it didn't and I can hardly believe it. As often happens with the witch or vampire at the end of those films I visibly aged about a 1000 years in seconds when Babble scored.
Well done TG for getting the report out. I believe "Standing on the Edge" played no small part in our victory and will go down in the annals of sports writing.
My only quibble is that as my children grow up and ask to have alphabeti spaghetti how can I feed them something that will always conjur up a vivid picture of Alan Greens arse as I spoon it on to their plates, while gazing into their trusting angelic faces.
Well done to everyone on the Blog today it makes a great read.
One concern is that with Marco going yesterday and now Jose, unlike Napoleon, we appear to be losing the troops before we get to Moscow.
your right JD but my word i have never seen a player hit the ball as hard as jimmy.
He was a player you had to see live just to appreciate how F'ing fast the ball went and for so long!!
@ LTB [60]
Phew! I was about to try to write what you said in most of your points above but was beginning to fell like a heretic as I haven't been able to comment today till now and my euphoria has been tempered with a slight apprehension.
Everything you say about Grant is, I think, spot on, and an excellent extension of the sex/feel-good analogy btw. I'm not convinced, yet, but happy to give a share of the credit to him for the last two results. *Doffs hat to AG*
I think it was the catharsis of actually overcoming them in a semi-final after the last two, that was such a high. Some great performances from the boys as others have noted, and some very personal moments for Frank and DD sharply focused to boot. I also hope their is more to come of that 'fiery urgency'.
An unforgettable European NightTM at the Bridge that made the banner that someone mentioned about history being made all the more poignant, I think I saw that it was in '65 that Liverpoo last lost a euro semi-final, so I hope history continues to be made in Moscow and that my reservations are swept away with more results and emphatic performances like last night.
Ten years ago, we played Bolton at the Bridge on the last day of the season and relegated them. A couple of weeks later, we went to Stockholm...
And I'd also like to apologise to the makers of alphabet spaghetti for completely destroying their sales amongst Chelsea fans.
STFU Jonathan! The alphabeti spag line has had me, my mates and even my old mum pissing ourselves over it. It was brilliant.
Too bad Mourinho is no longer at the club, I would be very proud to have a Portuguese winning the CL with a foreign club!
Best of lucks in Moscow.
FYI, I have 2 tickets, category 2, to sell for a nice price.

Absolutley delighted. Every single player was a hero today. There's not much to say about the game that hasn't been said, so instead i'd like to argue with your choice of MOTM! Frank Lampard? What game were you watching? The lad is a Cheslea hero, but last night he was virtually anonymous. Yes he has balls. yes he took a high pressure penalty. Yes his mum just died. Honestly, i'd be rather annoyed if he had have missed it. Everyone is going on like he's the first person ever to have a mother die. He's not, and to be honest i find it rather cringeworthy. Nobody made this much of a deal when Dirk Kuyts father died recently. Why not?
We won. Lets celebrate! But for gods sake Didier Drogba was MOTM by a mile!
Lampard was superb first half, and there's no shame in a bit of sentimentality and thanks to one of our key players for the last six years.
@ FBM - 75. So a bit of sentimentality crept in. Sue me :-)
Now then, now then, this is a Chelseablog, for Chelsea people. We don't want any trouble here!
In my view he played a good game, kept the midfield together and showed some tigerish tackling, which is unusual for him. With respect to Ze German who I've no doubt would have scored, Frank did not let his emotion get in the way and took a penalty that Ballack would have ticked as perfect. I like to think of us as his extended family as I would anyone at Chelsea, and if Liverpool mfans didn't make a noise about Kuyts Dad then that's their issue.
Like I said it could have been any from 4 or 5 last night but MoTM isn't about goals alone so my conscience remains clear and the decision stays.
@72 JD
To compensate could we perhaps offer them first refusal on my new breakfast cereal product?
Riise and Sh*te
(trademark applied for)
It is basically a flaky bran product.
I wondered if you would license me the "Soapy Ferret" image for a small consideration. I feel he could be as big as Tony the Tiger.
Do you think I'm on the right track with this or perhaps I'm heading in the wrong direction........
Oh suit yourselves....
@79 BB - presumably there will be a range of free plastic sticks to go with the Sh*te?
I may be clutching at straws, but I've got a sneaking suspicion that all major trophies could end up with a team that wears blue. We know one of the FA Cup winners will be, possibly Rangers if they progress this evening, and of course us for the PL and CL.
You heard it here first, you can put your mortgage on it!
clive that is an amazing fact! you have far too much time on your hands!
clive that is an amazing fact! you have far too much time on your hands!
Yes I know, ;-) and I'm going to prefix my name with blue until the 21st May, we should all follow suit, you know it makes sense!
PS I'm looking forward to Peter doing it. ;-)
Yeah, baby.
They say that patience is a virtue. Chelsea fans have waited and waited and waited, and finally, we have a place in the Champions League final. It has arrived via two fantastic strikes from our much maligned striker Didier Drogba, a penalty from Frank Lampard and a fortuitous own-goal in the first leg. But even the most delusional Liverpool fan would be hard pressed to justify saying that we did not deserve to win overall. Cuz. We. Did.
We made by far the brighter start last night, dominating the midfield through Ballack and Makelele and Kalou, Lampard and Ashley Cole playing in a neat left-hand triangle. I couldn't stop laughing when Drogba scored and then pointedly celebrated in front of Rafa Benitez. Aside from him slagging off Drogs for diving being akin Keira Knightley having a go at someone for being thin (because all Torres and Gerrard are such saints), it had the ironic effect of inspiring/provoking Drogba to give one of his best performances for Chelsea, and by far his most pertinent.
After half time, however, it looked like we'd had momentarily slipped into their “score a goal, let the opposition equalise” regime that has been taking its toll all too frequently under AG. Whatever Benitez said to his players seemed to have taken effect, because Liverpool looked much fresher in the second half. Considering that they had rested key players at the weekend in their Premiership match against Birmingham, a luxury our Chelsea boys couldn’t afford as we had, you know, other commitments too as we didn't crap up in the league, this is not altogether surprising, but major alarm bells rang when Yossi Benayoun dovetailed around the wing to seek out the otherwise anonymous Fernando Torres, who shot past Cech. The Chelsea Champions League balloon was beginning to deflate temporarily.
Fatigue was taking its toll on us. John Terry looked tired. Michael Ballack was limping. Avram Grant took off the lively Kalou for the more composed Malouda and Nicolas Anelka on for Joe Cole to inject some much-needed pace into our side. But Chelsea could not go into attack fully, knowing that conceding another goal to Liverpool would mean they would have to score two. And it was too big a risk to take for Chelsea. The match, which had started out so promisingly for us, was scarily becoming another case of how to defend.
But it was Liverpool that cracked first. Thank God that Sami Hyypia fouled Michael Ballack in the penalty area. With ice-cool precision in the face of the good penalty saver Pepe reina, Lampard sent us 2-1 up. Lampard’s penalty, unlike Cristiano Ronaldo’s last week, was completely on target, completely well-struck, completely vital. To even play for Chelsea following such a huge tragedy shows what a great professional he is. To score a penalty, under such pressured conditions, shows what a great player he is. His heartfelt tribute to his mother shows what a great man he is.
Anyway, Chelsea won, fair and square. Liverpool were crap, Torres is a 10 year old girl, stevie Me sux etc etc etc. We now have two crucial Premier league matches before a date in Moscow with premiership rivals Manchester Utd. We had the beating of them last weekend, and our players will be elevated by this to go on win it. Chelsea have everything to look forward to now; and nothing to fear.
Man of the Match: Frank Lampard
But will people think they are seeing double double if they see entries by Blue Blue Bayou or BlueBlueBoy Dave etc?
Interesting that! Here in America NY Giants won the Super Bowl (trained at Cobham earlier in the season before playing Miami in Wemberly!) and Kansas Jayhawks won the NCAA basketball tournement, all wear BLUE!!!!
What else to say about the match? All has been said.
Everyone was bloody brilliant, end of!!
For me Lamps edges it by an inch over Drogs for MOTM as he did provide some sublime passes through the Poo defence in the first half. Didi should have scored on his first one on 19 minutes and of course the one to Kalou for the first goal. Two that comes to mind. Drogs was awsome mind, and I just knew he would be after Tubby's comments before the match. Cheers Tubby!!
As for the negatives (being picky here) we let in their first two goals at the Bridge to the thieves under Tubby in eight tries and one to the PurpleNose lot on Saturday in four years, was it? I know i know who cares, yeah? But still!
And although I will give AG kudos for helping us to this position with three matches to go, I still do NOT think he is the one to take us to the next level and for the future. Only now I do't have as much issue with him stepping upstairs rather than just leaving.
I will reconsider this position if somehow he has pulled off the double, as just keeping that kind of luck on your side is potentially the end of that discussion.
CAREFREE................
And just to add to the blue theme Zenit FC who also play in blue, are currently playing Bayern Munich in the other semi final are winning 3-0 and 4-1 on aggregate.
It must be a sign - even if Rangers mess up, Fiorentina play in purple which is of course a mixture of BLUE (and red)- so near enough....
The adrenalin has run out. I can barely keep my eyes open. I'll think about the Blue Omen stuff whilst heavily investigating the inside of my eyelids tonight.
But that CFC Logo tattoo might just be a step closer..........
I'm off for some cheese on toast. And no it isn't Blue cheese!
Change it back Tony you won't be moderated for long.
Looks like one team in blue in the UEFA cup final already
What a beautiful beautiful beautiful day. Drogba solidified himself as an absolute Chelsea legend yesterday and Frank Lampard reminded us why he's been one for so many years. Can Avram do the big one on the 21st? I'll be pulling for him louder than ever.
Anyone got a link to the photo mentioned in comment no. 50 of Lampard, Drogba and Carvalho, the one taken after Lamps' penalty?
I think the photo Emerald Blue refers to was in the Sports section of today's Guardian -- unfortunately I've lost mine already. There is something classical about Riccy generally (except when he just looks dopey) -- perhaps it's the way he stands very very straight, and the high forehead, and the generally tranquil expression. Even when he's going in to kneecap someone he looks very stoical about it.
Nick - I have the copy in todays Guardian.....i'll see how it scans and send it on. It might need cropping, but I'm sure a software whizz like you can deal with that.
One thing about Avram Grant, as a conclusion, he is not the special one, but he is - "THE FORTUNATE ONE". He is not a good coach nor good tactician. So, hopefully the Headlines will label him as "THE FORTUNATE ONE". Even a lot of fans did not enjoy his team selections at times, his substitutions at times, but the result is fortunately- FORTUNATE. Found out that we all enjoy his fortunate fortune and as a fan we should take this positively since we may not have someone as special as JM or someone with better tactical knwoledge. But, hell!!! Just enjoy the moment of fortune with Chelsea this year with the strength of players we have in this team, their determination plus AG's fortunate tactics, will result more win for chelsea. Hopefully, AG's fortunate tactics and our players strong determination will help Chelsea grab one or both cup title. Hail AG's the Fortunate Ones and our players strength combined as one...!!! Hail Chelsea!!!
I have indeed, Nick:

I think Emerald Blue is refering to The Guardian's pic, where it was taken from a slightly different angle, but it's the same image. Gorgeous.

Take your pick guys. Which was the most epic European game we had at The Bridge?
@ Emma...boy you're good :-)
Nick...I won't bother scanning now!
I've been grinning like a Cheshire Cat all day..
Great review TONY, even if it was a tad seedy! LOL
We'll go on to win now, i just know it! I honestly didn't expect us to get to the final but now we're there i'm confident we'll give Man Ure a well deserved beating! I'll be ecstatic just to see the smug grin wiped off McFergie's arse..sorry...face. The look on his ugly mush at the final whistle last night said it all really, he wanted a Scum v Man U final because of the divide?! F***ing liar! He wanted them in the final because he knew there'd be a chance of winning the cup, no other reason!
Even the Scousers and Arsenal fans are behind us on this one..BRING IT ON!!!
I was in tears again this morning when i saw Frank taking his pen and then kissing his armband. YOU ARE A LEGEND FRANK AND YOU'RE ALWAYS MY MOTM..
Thanks again Chelsea boys for getting us to where we've wanted to be for so long..i finally know now what love is!!
Up the Chels xxx
@ EMMA
What you trying to do to me?! I've got tears streaming down my face!!!
Thank you, Emma. Marvellous.
Someone with better Photoshop skills than me could do something special with an image like that.
That picture I think has summed up the game and Chelsea, enough said!

Am I just being creepy/obsessive/weird? Or is Frank actually God?
ermm..just showing off my bluename to enter into the blue bandwagon.
Thanks for the pics Emma and Stephen! thanks :)
Am I just being creepy/obsessive/weird? Or is Frank actually God?
@ BLUE LTB
Yes to both!!
I'm loving the blue theme here guys! It's fuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!
Thanks for everyone that are sailing on the good blue ship lollipop (your name gets everywhere lolli) Lets keep it going at least until the 21st!!
I'm still waiting to see a post from Peter with his name change ;-)
@ BLUECLIVE
The good blue ship lollipop? I LIKE IT!!!!
Yeah, where's Peter?!
Oh, Emma(103)... That pic made me cry too... OMG! Can someone lend me a hankie?
its not a ship..its a submarine! and the words go...
We all live in a blue submarine,
blue submarine, blue submarine!
24 hours now! not able to wipe that grin off my face and act so dopey!
Can someone lend me a hankie?
Is that because Tony's report was too erotic for you ;-)
I'll get my coat
Clive, you're such a dirty old man, no wonder Mr. Musumba likes you! :-)
@ 110 LTB
You're right. I thought it reminded me of the post crucifixion scene as it is commonly portrayed in western european religious art, (cue Brian Sewell style posh accent) but hesitated to mention it. TG has already caused outrage with his overtly sexual references in the match report and now blasphemy!
We're heading into choppy waters
Rangers have done it, so we are guaranteed another blue team to win.
Just a quick note on Frank's penalty, to coin a phrase...
Unmistakeably German, Made in England!
Been busy all day but I've noticed everyone's turned blue.
How do I go about changing my name? Where can I get a blue job?
@Mark
Just put Blue before your name in the box where your name is. You'll be moderated for a short while before Nick's Fort Knox security allows it to be posted.
Thanks for the pics EMMA, I will be sure to show that one of Torres crying to all the dirty scousers at my school, Love the BLUE theme, Keep the BLUE flag flying high!
Presumably Nick's got nothing better to do than un-moderate everyone?
I've told my wife that for the next 3 weeks everything must go Blue. No more cheddar, I want blue cheese. No romcoms this weekend, we're going to a blue movie.
And if she wants to give me any jobs this weekend like mowing the lawn, forget it, I only want bluejobs.
@ BLUESIMONT
So do i actually. He's been the cause of many a stray comment on here!
Presumably Nick’s got nothing better to do than un-moderate everyone?
He uses very clever software, there are no humans or animals used in the moderation process. Some climb aboard the good blue ship lollipop and change your name.
MARK, Totally with you LOL, I want everything BLUE
I blame Clive!
So do i actually. He’s been the cause of many a stray comment on here!
Yes that's right blame me, I'm the responsible one on here, if anything goes wrong I'm responsible. ;-)
This good mood and love in we're all having with each other should stop, lets get back to the bitching and backstabbing we're all used to.
@ BLUECLIVE
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm loving the love-in that's going on!
Leave the backstabbing and name calling to the scousers and mancs!!
@ BlueLolliPop
Forgive me! Maybe I should blame Mr. Musumba then! :-)
@ BLUESIMONT
I forgive you..this time!
Blame Mr M? Yup, ok..i'll go with that!
@ BLUECLIVE
...Just a quick note on Frank’s penalty, to coin a phrase…
Unmistakeably German, Made in England!...
Just like my Blue Mini Cooper S (with white stripes)!!!!!!!!!!!
Whatever happened to footy player!?
Anyways well played! lol!
How about this observation in 4 big games lately. Always a Defender from the opposition is injured during match.
1. Liverfool first leg : arbeloa injured and replaced by risse - scores own goal
2. Liverpool second leg : Skrtel injured and replaced by hyypia who gives penalty.
3. Arsenal Game - Sagna out injured
4. Man utd - vidic injured that too very early
Found on a Scouse Blog.... The truth about Rafa's genius & the Spirit of Istanbul...
" Last night in a TV show here in Croatia as a build up to a Chelsea-Liverpool game the guest was Igor (Biscan) and the commentator(among other things) asked him to say what had Rafa actually said to the players during half time in Istanbul and Igor(to my surprise) said that Rafa actually didn't do much,he entered the room and started drawing some plays on the board but was a bit confused cause the players had to interrupt him to say that there were actually 12 LFC players in those plays he was drawing so he stopped talking and that was in fact Alex Miller(he didn't say the name but said it was a Scottish assistant manager) who then said something like- "all right lads they really played us off the park but let's just try to score at least 1 goal for all those fans who came and spent a lot of their money to be here, and if we score at least 1 goal everything is possible",and Rafa was just staying still and not saying anything."
I heard he said Gerrard was a diver and a cheat.... Well, it worked for Didier, didn't it!
Job well done at the Bridge!!! The last year has all the emotional ups and downs of an epic tale. Maybe those downs were necessary in order to get the ups, just like in the movies. If we had won the Carling cup or FA semi maybe the motivation would not have been (re)discovered???
So is AG really a "modern" manager/mentor. He defies the current leadership paradigm which says the manager must have personal power to lead through charisma, example and expertise. Grant seems to lack all these MBA endorsed qualities and doesn't even have a professional coaching license (yet).
The image of AG on his knees is religious image but certainly not Renaissance (the Passion of St Frank). He belongs to a previous era where faith, not "will", was crucial. For him we know who "The Special One" really is, the guy upstairs. It seems to me that AG's greatest endeavor is to inspire faith and that the outcome of a game is grant(ed) by the almighty.
AG is the Rabbi. Or if that is too ethnic for you, then he's "The Cleric" (generic mmorpg). Is a cleric a manager??? Or is his attitude too fatalistic for management?? Or should there be a manager and a cleric???
We haven't reached the "Climax"yet, just the end of Act 2. In the hero's journey the heroes have just fought their nemesis in the cave and have emerged with the elixar. Now the hero faces the final test on the road home via Moscow and climax awaits.
Keep the Faith!!
It has now sunk in... we have reached the CL final... Just how imagine how good it will feel when we win.
I get the impression the tide has turned for AG in terms of his acceptance. Terry's interview today on Soccernet where he has rallied behind him plus the images of players embracing AG all point to a realisation that while he may not be an inspiring figure, perhaps the players have now warmed to him and all of us must now tip our hats to him, his staff and the players for making history on Wed night. Of course winning the way they have helps !
I watched the replay last night and it was even better spectacle than I remember the first time (Maybe I was more awake and less nervious).
The moment Frank stepped up and took that penalty will stay with me forever. Surely the club will see getting his signature as the number one priority after deciding on AG's future.
Whatever happens in the league the next few weeks will be full of excitement, anticipation, debate and comment over the first CL final between the two best teams in England and purely on reaching the final the two best teams in Europe.
What more can a Chelsea fan want than to see our boys squaring up to the Mancs in Moscow for the right to be called the best in Europe (if not the world).
Roll on May 21 I can hardly wait.
KTBFFH
Tony -- The semi final was an emotional love story than an act of a one night stand, really!!but you do sound like an emotional guy who would take a one nighter so emotionally ;)!! wink wink.. no offence :)!!!
Jose Musumba@25---Dude, you need to get out of the closet!Go sit next to the lil girl Torres and hold him when he cries and whines about Tubby!
Jonathan@35---An Orgy it will be :)!!!.
Thank you very very much for the pics Emma, Nick & Stephen, The Trio pic is my wall paper until 21 May, after that I want to put JT holding aloft the big ears...:)..sobbing..at that thought.
By the way excellent report Tony, Can you do something with the photos Tony? like make it the page background? Its so amazing and true that we all have gone through similar emotions in the last few days.
Just wanted to be a part of the group hug!
Stunned, simply stunned...
I noticed two things have been good Feng Shui for the victory on Wednesday: The rain and AG's white shirt.
AG actually dressed like the bloke at my local kebab shop; I hope his wife would make him wear a bloody tie in Moscow, but not the grey tie he used to wear though... Oh, bugger, I'll buy him a blue tie from Oxfam charity shop then!

Exactly how hard will the Hammers be trying tomorrow?
Surely does not help Curbs' bid to become Chelsea manager, does it?
Mascherano, quoted in today's Guardian -- and stop me if you've heard this one before:
"Next time, when everyone has that little bit more experience and understanding, we will be a lot better and can definitely challenge for the titles."
Stevie G. must have dropped the Official LFC Broken Record off at Masher's house.
Well done the boys!!!! we beat Benitez who I despise most out of all the managers! so VERY WELL DONE AVRAM! and that is from his fearcest foe, but I was most pleased about was Avram's touchline aggression at times during the match. At least he's trying now and that is to be respected. I still dont like how he helped get rid of Jose and believe if he were to be here next year we will be in trouble but if he were only to come out and support JM's achievments then I would possibly give him one more year....maybe!! LOL! Still, I did genuinely feel sorry for him when gerrard pushed him over, he looked really embarrased and tried to quickly compose himself, but what do you expect from gerrard, wanker!!!
On Curbishley's comments, so Man-U did'nt let them (West ham)win at the death last season then? if this is'nt proof of an old boys network in football I dont know what is. Disgraceful. This is what JM tried to smash up and that's why the old boy network in the media hated him. let's not forget. But as the Bard said, "all's well that ends well"! hopefully....

Success! Found the exact pic
Emma...Ace you are. Blue team spirit in excelsis
Perhaps it's all a clever psychological and tactical ploy by Curbs to lull Utd into a false sense of security. What better way is there to let Utd go into the game relaxed thinking that it's a given, only to be hit by a sucker punch and yet more points dropped. After all West Ham have a bit of blue on their kit!
I still have some pictures on the game. Tell me if you want them.
Bloody dyslexia...
Surely does not help Curbs’ bid to become Chelsea manager, does it?
Christ on a bike, not whilst I have breath in my body.
Bloody dyslexia…
Very good Mr D but you're not entering into the spirit of the thing. :-)
And for anyone feeling the stress to the upcoming Monday fixture (which is my birthday and wedding anniversary) here is a must see website to help relieve any tension.

@ 157 Dio, touchline aggression
Yes, and now Grant's learnt the dropping to his knees, the clenched fist and punching the air, can he put it all together with a touchline slide ready to show Sir Alex on the 21st ? And who was it who did that before so well - I'm sure it'll be on YouTube somewhere.

Clive: 2008 is supposed to be a great year for Tauruses/Tauri (whatever you call 'em). Mine is tomorrow. AG's Tuesday. How about Toad instead of Taurus?

@BlueTone
I prefer being bovine it sounds more masculine, I suppose the term "hung like an amphibian" has a certain novelty value though.
@ Blueclive..I hope your'e right! I thought that but not with thi smuch arse licking Curbishleys done this time.! And to say all the managers in the prem agree? What a wanker. Retire idiot!!!!
@Stephen.....I know but hey, for now, let's let him do his job and let's get behind the whole team for the last three matches and then we can let the discussions began. I really want Terry, Lampard and Drogba to win the CL. I think those guy's deserve it for what they have given to the club over the last four years even if I would have preffered JM to be here but lets try and stick two fingers up to all the Chelsea haters in Europe, UEFA, Galliard the fucker, (I hate him more than anyone), the UK media, The FA old boys network and Liverpool and Barcelona! If anyone thinks of anyone else please let me know! I hate them all, anti Chelsea wankers all of them!! it must be sais at least the normal fans of of other clubs including Liverpool and Arsenal are more honest than this collection of Corrupt Fuckers!!
By the way, can anybody tell me why the carpet coming out of the tunnel and the CL final flag on the pitch was red at the Bridge? There are no more Soviets and it looked like a Liverpool home game at that point! Cant Chelsea's board even impose their own colours? And by the way, dont say it is beacuse Roman is not a red, if he were, he would still be a penniless apparatchik in Moscow!!

Pete Townshend i'd say. won't get fooled again, 7'52" into the clip :)

@ Bluetone, now your’e showing your age mate! LOL!!
got my bald pate to show for it, my godly friend :)
Well...I will be in France when we play the Final! Plus Blue Tony Glover was a bit much. In truth as far as I know i'm the only Tony on the blog....so shouldn't I be Blue 'Tone'?
As for The Sun thing about Anelka - well I guess it could have been written is a condition of sale which would have been a fair shout from Bolton who probably knew their predicament might be dodgy when they sold him. If Drogs is fi then it won't be an issue as we have Sheva...and failing that Pizzaro!
*Runs for cover*
I see Liverpool have bid for Gareth Barry. Farewell Stevie Me? Is this not the same as us bidding for him and letting Frank go?
I also see AG is saying RA is very happy with him.
LINK
Now that's what I call pre-hatched chicken counting. Whilst I do appreciate what he's done thus far I still don't see him taking us forward next year, and I'd hate us to lose certain players because some don't want to play for him, and nor do I want to risk a poor start next season which again puts us in 'catch-up' mode. The harsh reality is we haven't won anything yet, and now that the post-Tubby's army game is over and the emotions have calmed down I still hold the view that for me he isn't the man for the Head Coach role. He'd be a good DoF probably and I'd be OK with him in that role, bridging the gaps between coach, players, Arnesen, PK and owner but I don't see him as the main man.
Now, am I being a bit previous with this view after the glory of Wednesday?
@ BLEUTONE (TONY GLOVER)
If Drogs is fi then it won’t be an issue as we have Sheva…and failing that Pizzaro!
Have a word with yourself! Go and stand in the corner!!
Regarding the link on Curbishley, what can you say to a pathetic, a**e-licking comment like that?
Curbishley...you're a complete and utter T**T!!! I always thought you were, you've just gone and confirmed it!
Hasn't King Kev come out this morning and said something similar? Something on the lines of "we'll help Man Utd win tomorrow"..Him of ALL people! What does he owe McFergie?
*sorry "we'll help Man Utd win on Monday!"*
Getting my days mixed up!
And Ferguson also criticised Grant. He said: "I don't know why he's suggesting there's going to be anything untoward. They should know better than anyone, Chelsea, about these situations.'
What on earth is the old goat inferring here? Any thoughts?
I'd suggest McFergie keeps his gob shut about any supposed dodgy goings-on at clubs.. Aren't 7/8 of his team being investigated today by the FA for match betting?!
I think he's going scenile! because he doesn't half come out with some shite!
P.S On a side note, my thoughts today are with Frank and all of his family..
God bless you all x x
Re: Curbishley and Keegan
I suppose Mr Bruce wont bother saying anything as it's a given.
I have my ear pressed to my old crystal set, scanning all frequencies so I don't miss the refs saying they're right behind Sir Whino of Trafford as well!
Well, I'm waiting for the next Footy Player post heh. Those pics that people (Emma and Stephen thank you) posted links to have been brilliant in the 'picture worth a thousand words' scheme of things. Poor Lamps just doesn't have quite the same look of being totally in the moment with his recent bereavement being so close, but as Martin Samuel said.. "What a player. What a man." It's a pity that the league is really out of our hands, but if 'ol Big Ears comes to sit in the trophy cabinet for a year then I can accept that, as JT is currently saying, that you can't argue with the results, and if it were to be a case of being runners up on goal difference well as far as I'm concerened that's a bit like losing on penalties. I'm just so relieved to finally get to the CL Final, and to have knocked out Liverpoo in a semi-final is icing on a sweet cake indeed. It would be great to see all of the red teams end up winning *nothing* though =)
Well…I will be in France when we play the Final! Plus Blue Tony Glover was a bit much. In truth as far as I know i’m the only Tony on the blog….so shouldn’t I be Blue ‘Tone’?
Tony; if my memory serves me correctly weren't you in France last year for the FA cup final. So perhaps it's another good omen, and another win against them is on the cards, and don't France play in blue? All this blue malarkey is looking a little spooky. ;-)
Anyone here going to Moscow? I've just booked via Thomas Cook. We could meet up pre match and paint Red Square blue.

@Mark
Just heard from my Russian contacts and MI5 (or was it MFI) that your visa application will be turned down, something to do with subversive activity.
@ No 172 BLUETG - I think there are already a number of posts above that still express varying levels of doubt on Avram's future. I caught up yesterday with his pre-match interview on Sky on Wednesday night when he was droning on about how he'd changed everything for the better since he came to the club including training and then perhaps because of the off-camera reaction of the interviewer swiftly added that of course he respected the previous history and achievements of the club.
Interestingly I recently came across my old copy of Pat Nevin's book "In Ma Head, Son" written in late 1990s in form of a discussion between Pat and a psychologist on Pat's views and experiences of football. The section on management seems particularly apt now:
The psychologist asks if it's possible for team spirit to flourish without very effective management and Pat replies he thinks it's sometimes possible for team spirit to be very good BECAUSE of bad management. He says players quickly spot managers with weaknesses and soon lose confidence in them.
He argues then either the team disintegrates or if there is one incredibly strong individual or a small group of people in the club they can pull it together [compare that to the quotes from JT this week!] before saying that though you'd think management and tactics were fundamentally important on a day-to-day basis it's possible for players to hold their manager in total contempt but still play very well [ sound like Drogba?].
They then discuss the disparity between some managers good reputation according to the press and how their players feel about them and how bad managers often court the press to disguise their real status within their club.
Hmmm.......
Have a look at these articles from today's Guardian, especially Richard Williams' piece on Frank. Now I know many of us on the blog have taken issue with RW in the past, his anti-Chelsea bias is probably the worst of all Guardian journalists, but away from Football he is one of the best sports columnists around, and he used to be a film reviewer and he wrote for the Melody Maker in the 70s (If my memory serves me right I believe he reviewed Dylan's Blood on the Tracks with Tangled Up In BLUE and he hosted the Old BLUE Whistle Test - did BLUE Cheer ever play Summertime BLUES on the OBWT? Anyway, I digress, he's written a moving piece on Frank (be careful Blue Lolli as this will get the tears going again)
LINK
A number of other good Chelsea articles today as well
Kevin McCarra on the final
LINK
Richard Williams is the spiritual leader of the journos who think of themselves as noble custodians of the true spirit of sport, and despise Chelsea because of Abramovich -- as everyone knows there was no money in football before he came, the Premiership was a wonderfully open contest (*either* Man U *or* Arse could win each year, just imagine the excitement!), there was no foreign influence, plucky Corinthian teams driven only by their love of the game ruled the earth (with their 70,000 seat stadiums and their flogging three strips a year to the idiot punters), and the true and storied aristocrats of English football were untroubled by grubby little parvenu clubs, just like in the good old days before the labour movement when the grand old families ruled the country, god bless 'em.
His article on Frank basically says: "We all hated him because he's Chelsea, oh and a bit fat too, but now his mum died young and he scored a penalty so actually we realise we were wrong."
It's a touching piece, but as usual with him it's about nothing but his own opinions. In the Wlliamsverse the only thing that matters is: "what do I think?"
@dave - do me a favour - you and all the other AG doubters sound like a broken record - please just put a sock in it - at least for the next 3 weeks
jeesh!!!!!!!!
Having just read Richard Williams column and then trawled through the comments, jeez there are some twisted people out there. I did find a link to another column in The Times.

Match Report
Title: CFC just keeps on getting Better
Kick-Off
I attended a football training session. Afterwards I went to St. Elmo's (pizza restaurant) to have dinner with my family.
By the time I got home the match was already thirty-minutes into normal time of play (through no fault of my own). Literally two minutes from the time I switched on the TV I saw with delight, Didier Drogba hitting the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
So I'm not in the position to give you an accurate account of the whole match. This time I'm forced to what the media has to say.
Introduction
Chelsea FC are now level points with Man U as a result of the hiding received.
liverpool: the champions league is their only hope of winning any piece of silverware.
Match Summary
Match
People who doubt Drogba’s loyalty to Chelsea FC, ought to take into account his brilliant performance's of late and his determination to make Chelsea FC a successful club.
Avram Grant has been brilliant. He beat two of the big four clubs. Within four days with basically the same players. They must have felt the effects of playing two tough matches in such a short period of time I'm only twenty-one and I'm not the fittest person in the world, so I think that these professionals will survive. Hah, ha.
Rafael Benitez (liverpool manager) rested about half of the team that played in the second-leg and Chelsea FC still beat them.
What?
Also Chelsea FC is playing effective and attractive football.
I am truly humbled by the fact, that Frank Lampard (CFC player) played so soon after the death of a loved one. I am writing this with the utmost respect. I describe the way I feel about this man.
CFC Players aka. World Eleven
No comments. I'm not a professional. Instead, rather go out and buy yourself a coaching manual.

Nonetheless I take this seriously.

No idea. I'm writing this the day after the match and I went out to watch a football match and I did a lot of reading so I'm tired and I can't think straight. ?/10
Teams
Liverpool
Liverpool didn't have a clue. How to unlock Chelsea FC's defence. Nonetheless the reds scored two goals. 7/10
Chelsea FC
The Blues continued where they left off on Saturday. (Chelsea v Man U match) They are definitely playing like champions. 9/10
Editor's comment
Michael Essien continues to score goals in important matches. He continued where he left off against Everton. I am living in South Africa and the local operator plays this clip which states that Michael modelled his game on two players. Roy Keane and Patrick Veira. Had I be living in England: I would be in THE country and my view on the matter would be a lot different. I would have a feel of what is actually going on.
He scores goals in important matches. I hope that the trend continues.
Conclusion
Avram Grant is a world-class manager. He has done what Jose Mourinho couldn't do in three attempts.
Sorry to AG if I offended him by bringing up his football history. But I definitely won't bring up his personal business and act like a child and call him toad.
This is the bit that excites me:
Grant's professional coaching career started at age 18, in 1972, as youth coach of his home-town team, Hapoel Petah Tikva. In 1986, After a 14-year spell in this job, he was promoted to first team coach, leading the club to two Toto Cup victories, in 1990 and 1991, thus bringing Hapoel Petah Tikva back to the top of Israeli football after nearly 25 years.
During this era Petah Tikva fought regularly for the championship against Shlomo Sharf's Maccabi Haifa. In his last season in Petah Tikva, Grant lost both the championship and the Israel State Cup within 3 days to Maccabi Haifa, in a chain of events which is commonly known in Israel as "the Double robbery."
And now Man U and liverpool.
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.
I have to stress this fact .Chelsea FC desperately needs some structure in the of the squad. We should have wrapped up the season a couple of games ago. We need a strong second-eleven to sustain performance's say for instance: Saturday and a Champions league match.
First-team players: FA Premier league and champions league.
Second-team players: Carling Cup and FA Cup and minor league matches.
Check the calendar?
A professional (good) manager ALWAYS strengthens his squad.
Congrats Chelsea FC team and staff on reaching the final in Moscow. Now go ahead and win the damn cup.
Cheers
@ Tommyblue - not mean spirited - I gave him some well deserved credit in my review. I've maintained all along that even if we won stuff I'd feel the same. It's just my opinion and it doesn't sway me from how I'll back him and the team from now until the end of the season. The blog is about comment and opinion and the minute it becomes a 'love-in' or a mouthpiece for the club like the official club forum which seems to hold dissidents in utter disdain then I'm off elsewhere.
But Nick, who is the Chief Editor/Big Blue Cheese/Head Honcho/Blog CEO/Top Dog/King of the Hill/Man at the Helm (thats enough grovelling...Ed) has always been good enough to allow wildly varying views as long as they aren't just abusive, racist etc.....Personally I think it's the level of informed, sensible and intelligent but passionate debate that puts us above any other footie blog.
I watched the game again tonight. It just conformed by views and my choice of MoTM (sorry FBM). But I will make one more comment. Michael Ballack and Michael Essien were fucking immense. Even better the third time. Anybody who questions Ballacks strength and commitment needs to look at their sanity.
I decided to have a teetotal weekdn last week but the Manure game derailed those plans big time. I had then deferred it to this weekend but 2 things have destroyed that ambition
1.) Wednesday night...I need to talk to ChelseaBob and Mrs ChelseaBob who were there. If I don't get my weekly argument with ChelseaBob (sometimes you wouldn't think we supported the same team) then i get withdrawal symptoms.
2.) My daughter No.1 is 16 tomorrow and we're having a party here to ....ahem...celebrate. I'm off to the pub with some mates, one of who is my Scouse supporting B-i-L and we're due back after closing time to assist with the ...ahem.....despatching of a group of feral teenagers to their respective homes. So, they're younger, fitter and leaner than me and they might be full of cheap lager bravado when I get in tomorrow night.
But I have one redeeming advantage.
I'm a Chelsea fan.
Nothing scares me.
After this week...nothing.
@ BLUEZ ONE AND ONLY
Thanks for your link and yeah, i did get a lump in my throat. Likewise at the note that Frank had wrote to his Ma at today's funeral. It read;
"To my darling Mum,
you are my everything,
My Mum & best friend.
All i have done and all i will do in my life is to make you proud.
I hope i have.
I will think of you every minute of every day.
Love from your boy,
Frankie xxx"
That had me crying like a baby this afternoon! (again!)
Think it's with knowing exactly what he's gone through as it's a vile illness that also took the lives of 2 of my family within 2 weeks. To see someone literally dying before your eyes, knowing there's nothing you can do to help is soul destroying. It's brought back awful memories for me personally. Frank will need time but he's a strong fella with a strong Father behind him to show him the way and inspire him. I have the greatest of admiration for what he did for us the other night.
I'm hoping that if he was ever doubting his future with Chelsea, that the love and support the fans have shown him will help to sway his decision. I don't believe for a second that he will leave us BUT if he does choose to follow T.S.O, i will continue to support him wherever he goes. He's been my fave player now for a long time.
Tony - you sound like a great bloke, you write well and your opinions are your opinions which is more than fine - I also don't want a love in but there is a difference between intellegent discussion and differing points of view and some of the frankly childish innuendo and nitpicking that a goes on with a few people.
It's the lack of respect towards the guy that gets me - he deserves better! He's dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn't.
My comments regarding putting a sock in it weren't even aimed at you.
No one has to pay a blind bit of notice of what I have to say - probably don't - LOL! but these are MY opinions - and I would'nt come on here if I didn't like it .
Nuff said!
Happy birthday to your daughter - you should be scared ..... very scared LOL!!
@ Tommyblue......you're opinions are respected , of course, that's what makes life's rich tapestry so interesting.
Deep inside......tomorrow night I will be scared, not because of the cheap lager bravado or the threat of drunken idiocy, but more because I remember what was top of my agenda as a 16 year old bloke.
It wasn't homework!
Tony - LOL!!! yeah I remember having to fight the likes of you off
now just fond memories!
@ TOMMYBLUE & BLUETG
Come on guys...kiss and make up. I hate conflict. We are all ONE on here ain't we?
Feel the love....
Here's that pic again from The Times with nice written piece to accompany it.

@ TOMMYBLUE
Awwwww!! Bless ya sweetie! x
@ BLUECLIVE
You've started me off again!! I'm gonna have to start getting a grip!
is it true that Man City have offered managers job to Jose?
@ TOMMYBLUE
I heard that also on Sky Sports News this morning. Apparently though the job has been offered to "Big" Phil Scholari and he's accepted the position.
Poor Sven..Nancy should show him some respect!
Shinawatra is nuts if he wants to get rid of Sven, If Scolari went to the COM stadium then they would proberbly be in the bottom half of the table and be playing boring football again, I dont think Jose will go there
I don't think T.S.O will go to Man City either, besides, he's all but signed for Inter Milan.
Read today that Chelsea are considering buying Ruud Van Nistlerooy in part exchange for Drogs IF he leaves in the summer. Drogs has an £18million price tag on him.
RVN is leaving Real in the summer and has also sparked interest from AC Milan.
I personally don't think anyone can match the Big Guy but if he chooses to leave for pastures new, i think we could do a hell of a lot worse than Van Nistlerooy. He's amazing!
However, i thought he'd not long signed a new 4(?) year contract with Real?
Porto have confirmed that Bosingwa will cost at least 15m pounds. Anything less wll not be considered. Lets join in the battle for his signature and jerk up the price. Anyway i think he will be just the perfect man to play the right back role. He's tall, physical and most importantly, the pace and defensive stability of Michael Essien. If we get him, its like having 2/4 of an Essien at right back and the real one in midfield.
RVN is too old in my opinion.... Great goalscorer though, and it will irritate the Mancs no end.
Great report Tony .......... I have just arrived back home after being away with work all week. BUT I made sure I saw the game and what a game.
I listened to TalkShite Thur morning and it was great to hear a scouser who was at the game phone up and say we had earned the respect of Liverpoo at last. The guy said he couldn't believe how we had hung on after their equaliser and found fresh legs in ET. Only sour point for me was listening to 5Live tonight on the way home......... the 7pm programme and that twat Steve Claridge (who I am always thought talked a lot of sense) say that he thought Liverpoo were the better team on the night and deserved to win!!!! Naturally I turned the radio straight off lol
@ GREENLIGHT
As you say, he's a GREAT goalscorer...and that's what matters! Practically a goal per game..and yes, the look on McFergie's face would be priceless.
Spurs are after Eto'o which i'm quite upset about. We've been after him for ages! They're willing to offer Berba who's been estimated at £25million, then pay up the rest. (Eto'o is valued at £40million). They've already secured Modric, if they get Eto'o, Spurs could turn out to be quite formidable next season..
LINK
Carvalho to Madrid..... Lets hope this is rubbish, as losing Ricky really would be trouble.
@Lolli
Sheva was a good goalscorer too! Not too bothered about Eto'o anymore. He looked pedestrian against Utd in both legs, but I am surprised we haven't been linked with Berbatov.... For me he would be a great replacement for Drogba, if he moves on.
@ GREENLIGHT
In answer to your first comment, there's no chance Riccy will leave us!! I'd bet money on that one!
Won't bother answering the second comment Babe!
BLUELOLLI, RVN just signed a LIFETIME contract with RM, I love talking about transfer targets as much as you lot BUT You guys want Boswingwa? Whats wrong with Ferreira? You want Eto? Whats wrong with Nic?
@ BLUE TRUE BLUE JOE
That's what i thought about RVN, in fact i was chatting to someone on here about it a couple of weeks ago. That's one of the rumours though, so gawd knows!
Regarding Eto'o..there's absolutely nothing wrong with Nicky and i for one have mentioned more than once how much more i'd like to see him given more play time. However, IF Didier leaves, we need someone of the same calibre to take his place. Eto'o would be great..
Definitely a no to RVN.
Have you forgotten how incredibly short of pace and strength he looked before he left for Real?
Annoy the Mancs? They'll be howling with laughter if we do get him.
I cant believe people are writing off Anelka already.
I mean, come on, we KNOW the guy scores goals. He scored regularly for BOLTON for God's sake! If a striker can bang in the goals for them and not for us, then I'm sorry, but we're the ones who cause the problem and not the striker.
We never even gave Pizarro a chance. When he played. he was used deep half the time, and with our 'second stringers' - otherwise, it was chucking him on for 5 minutes at the end.
Claudio Pizarro was an international class striker before he came over.
Yeah, he has that poncy hair, and he isn't gonna fling himself in front of a flying boot, but really, did we even give him two successive 90 mins?
Its getting ridiculous. So what do we do with the next striker we bring in for millions. Use him out wide? Force them to do all the donkey work and create chances for others? Yeah that will get his confidence right up. He'll be sticking his chances away then, won't he?
What we need are a couple of proper wingers. Joe Cole, love the guy, we all do, but the dreadful quality of his crosses..? Have they been practising how to avoid finding forwards or something? He is beter than that, but what the hell is going on?
Kalou - we all know what he's like
SWP - No hoper
Malouda - If he had just a bit of heart, he could be a decent player for us.
With Duff, we had pretty decent delivery from wide areas, with Robben we had the directness of Kalou with a lot more menace. We have gone backwards in terms of wingers.
We really need a couple of proper wingers.
In our entire squad, only two wide players who can really put in a good ball are Wayne Bridge (who isn't really the best defensively) and Beletti (who is truly shite at defending).
BTW what a shame Roman hasn't been around to witness the last couple of games at the Bridge.
If you were ever gonna get a buzz out of football, those two matches. Real shame.
Still, hopefully he was celebrating somewhere else.
Having watched the celebrations of One Step Beyond on You Tube after Wednesday's game, I'm trying to put together a list of songs synonomous with Chelsea FC.
If anyone has any suggestions please let post em....
Obvious suggestions
The Liquidator
Chelsea Dagger - Fratellis
Blue Is The Colour
The Masterplan - Oasis
Blue Day
One Step Beyond
Kalinka
I'm sure there must be many more that are other people's favourites
Greenlight
You have to put "London Calling" - The Clash on there, without question.
I absolutely ADORE "Battle without Honour or Humanity" - it's the instrumental track that they play in Kill Bill vol. 1 when Lucy Liu enters with her entourage.
That said, I've heard it being played at Old Trafford, so maybe not.
Another good song that makes me think of the footie is "All these Things that I've done" by The Killers.
And maybe you could change the lyrics a bit of "I don't want to go to Chelsea" by Elvis Costello to "I *do* want to go to Chelsea"
There's also Leonard Cohen's 'Chelsea Hotel' (about amongst other things Janis Joplin giving Lenny "head on the unmade bed")
Also Nico's 'Chelsea Girls', whom coincidentally, Leonard also sings about sleeping with in 'Take This Longing' - he was a player!
Finally, last night I saw Marc Almond live and he performed an as yet unrecorded song 'Blue Gate Fields' about London's notorious district as made famous in Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray' full of opium dens, brothels etc. For details see LINK
It seems we have a theme here, perhaps more in keeping with Tony's theme for this article, as The Musumba so quaintly put it - sex tonation
I really can't believe that some people would like to see Berbatov in a Chelsea Shirt. This guy has an estimated value of 25Mio? 2.5 Mio would be cool but still too much. This player is shite and nothing else. He plays for Spurs........so there is no chance of seeing him on a decent international level. Only because he banged in a few goals for Spurs....and maybe I'm making a fool of myself here but he's not even half as good as Sheva. 25 Mio......gimme a break!
I saw him playin in Germany for Leverkusen for a few years and from what I have seen he's simlpy not good enough for Chelsea. Sometimes he scores 3 games in a row and then he's wasting chance after chance. Players like him won't take us any further. Eto'o on the other hand would be really nice ^^
Also The Beatle's 'Blue Jay Way'
And Leonard Cohen's 'Famous Blue Raincoat'
Wah Mighty's 'The Story of the Blues'
Bob Dylan's 'Tangled Up In Blue'
Paul Mauriat's 'Love Is Blue'
And more on the blue theme
Elvis Costello's 'Almost Blue'
Elvis Costello's 'Blue Chair'
Fats Domino's 'Blueberry Hill'
Billie Holliday's 'Lady Sings The Blues'
At this stage I think I'll stop so as not to bore this blog silly - unless anyone joins in to play this game
"wanna take you higher" sly - not bad for us, not bad itself
Domenico Modugno's "Volare", real title: "Nel blu dipinto di blu" (into the blue, painted in blue)
F**K me..Horse Face just scored for Man Ure within 3 minutes. Surely McFergie and Curbs didn't arrange for them to score that early did they?
Regarding your song lists;
Hopefully it'll be a "Blue Monday" for Newcastle..(New Order)
2 more from Queen;
In the Lap of the Gods..
Gimme the Prize...
This game with Man Ure and the Spammers is outrageous! W Ham don't even look like they're interested in trying to win..oh sorry..Fat Aston has just "scored".
Tell ya what guys, all the speculation that's surrounded this game..i'm inclined to believe it. Green is a great goalie but that 2nd goal from Horse Face..come on!..he didn't even TRY to save it..

I've always thought that Nani is a nasty bit of work.
@ NICK BENFIELD
My sentiments exactly! Nani has got away with headbutting people for too long. See how he went down clutching his head ages after the incident.
Does anyone think the sending off is a ploy so that the game doesn't look too fixed? It's certainly gone through my mind. MOST teams struggle with 10 men..what's the betting Man Ure get at least 1 more goal though?
Nani's behaviour puts him right into the hall of shame
don't you also think scholes should've have been booked at the very least and Tevez too?
@ BLUETONE
Definitely..but that's the thing, they're untouchable aren't they?
Did you say it was your birthday today?
yes it is, and a Zamora/cole brace would be the perfect present right now
Sorry mate, you've just got another Man Ure goal instead!!
Terrible, terrible, terrible defending..
Happy birthday anyways sweetie pie..x
west ham said they wouldnt surrender. wonder what'd happen if they did
wait, he's about to tell CR7 to trim his hair.....unbelievable he's booked 'im
thx for the wishes you beauty, they're as welcome as a Frank Lampard's defence-splitting pass :)
You're welcome honey, hope the rest of your birthday turns out how you want it to!!
Regarding Horse Face's booking..no worries..he'll probably get the decision overturned!!
the look on Wes Brown's face whenever he somehow manages to get a header right
LOL!!! That's because he's so crap!! Why on earth they gave him a new contract i don't know!! Having said that, i thought against Barca he was the best player all night! He cleared how many goals??!!
I know..*take myself off into a corner and have a word with myself!!*
Do you think he looks like MORPH? Remember him? Tony Hart's best mate...
This has got to be the worst game of football i've seen in ages. Man U ALWAYS struggle against W Ham but all of a sudden, in a game that JUST happens to matter for Man U and the Spammers can't get the ball off them and when they do, can't hang onto it for more than 5 seconds..
Bet there will be much back slapping going on between McFergie and Curbs in the tunnel after the game.
Would love to here SEDENTARY DAVE's spin on the game..
Damn, I knew someone was going to say that. What can I say? Not a lot, actually, as I've had to follow it through the medium of the Guardian's minute by minute report (which is very good), but ... awful, really. A shameful capitulation.
I don't believe for a second (and surely you don't?) that there's been any collusion, but Curbs (even the man's nickname is another word for restraints!) will think he's made himself look really stupid now, and rightly so.
As if you care, I think he has to go. If we're going to finish tenth, or whatever, then let it be a splending swashbuckling tenth, a band of brothers tenth, a UEFA Cup or glory tenth, not a meek bumbling tenth, otherwise what is the point of getting another £700,000 more or less just to languish in mid-table mediocrity again? A pox upon him, decent guy that he is.
So, as I said before, what can I say?
Sorry, guys.
@ SEDENTARY DAVE
You sound like you've got more idea than that a***hole!!
I agree, get rid of him!!
West Ham are a disgrace and undermine the integrity of the League. I gave up watching at 2-0.
We all knew Curbishley was willing to bend over for Sir Alex but I didn't realise he'd also use a full tube of KY to make it so easy.
Hopefully one day we'll be in a position where if we throw the result West Ham will be relegated.
All that was missing at the final whistle, was Curbishley bending over on the halfway line in full view of everyone.
Anyone who thinks that Wet Sham's abject surrender is anything other than an old pals act should remember how football in this country operates. There's the Old Guard of ex-pros who plied their trade in old First Div and now manage football clubs, and there's the New Guard of foreigner coaches. Curbishley is firmly of the Old of course. A drinking mate and number one fan of Ferguson - as he so tactfully let everyone know in is newspaper column this week. Just as last season a favour was extended to keep this bunch of no-hopers in a division they were falling out of, so the favour was returned today. Curbs of course would know all about the need to keep an old pal sweet. His brother, for all you foreign readers and younger fans, is Bill Curbishley, who rose out of the Soho underworld of the 60s and 70s to end up manager of The Who and build a huge organisation on the back of rock music. Well connected, this type of guy operates along lines etched into the fabric of London's old streets. Sweeteners, backhanders and favour's done - no questions asked. Just how long do you think he spent with his players on the training ground and in the dressing room plotting tactics? About as much time as Ferguson last season for that last match. Was anyone delegated marking roles, was the team organised to cut out runs, stop balls going to dangerous players (the bread and butter of coaching). No. Of course not. And there's nothing you can do about it. If we stay in the race in Newcastle on Monday night and take this to the last day, don't expect any favours from Wigan either.
Never had any real hope in West Ham. They are SHITE.
Wigan will do a job for us, as long as Bruce makes sure he's got Heskey fully inflated.
On the transfer front, Real have made an approach for Villa, as have Inter.
Steve Bruce is already down at the chemist buying the lube for next week!
Curbishley and West Spam are PATHETIC, I didnt even watch the game but its obvious that they werent even trying at all to win it, This is so full of crap because when we beat Liverpoo they were saying the referee was bribed but when I team just bends over for the other and puts no effort into the game at all so that his pal McFergie has 1 hand on the title oh there nothing wrong with that at all, I cant help feel that someone is against us but of course it wont even be looked at because Man-Ure are the "best in the world" (even though they cant beat Boro) and seeing them destroy a team that has embarrassed them 3/3 times in the last few games isnt suprising at all.
BLUELOLLI, I always thought Nani was a moron, Although im not suprised at all that he was sent off (proberbly like you say its proberbly so the game doesnt look too fixed), Im furious that he would just lie over for Sir Alice and Man-Ure, I GUARENTEE that Keegan wont just give us the win tommorow because he doesnt like Sir Purple Nose thats because unlike Curbs he has DIGNITY and RESPECT for his team and fans
CASHIF, I hear his #1 destination is England BUT like you say I want to see Pizarro and Anelka given starts together up front when Didier leaves because neither is of use without a strike partner, KEEP THE BLUE FLAG FLYING HIGH
It's so easy to win the EPL. The majority of the CFC players should be sold seeing that they played so poorly (half-heartedly) throughout the season.
Mr Abromavich is one of the richest and smartest billionaire in the world. I can't understand why he allows this incompetance at Stamford Bridge:
Jose Mouriniho playing the most boring football in the world. I still don't have a clue how he could've won the FA Cup.
Frank Arsenen is basically stealing money out of Mr Abromavich's pocket and his walking around without a care in the world.
The other Head Scouts around the globe are just so in with Frank Arsenen and again stealing Mr. Abromavich's money.
The Chelsea FC squad is treating this season as if its a 9 month HOLIDAY and again nothing is being done.
Chelsea FC is probably the worst run club out of the major clubs in Europe. And what makes matters worse, all the major clubs are in Europe.
People are proabably starting to lose respect for one of the greatest men ever to walk the face of this planet.
I wouldn't be surprised if people are laughing at him, probably from behind his back whilst his head is turned at Stamford Bridge.
The FA Premier league should have been wrapped up by now.
Chelsea FC should have been focusing 100 % on winning the Champions league.
Chelsea FC players are treating the season as if its a Holdiay and now that the season is almost up then they're just playing in order to get their RIDICULOUSLY HIGH WAGES.
Avram Grant is happy with the way the season is going.
What kind of manager is this?
Chelsea FC could have made bucket loads of cash, instead were LITERALLY FIGHTING to just stay in the title race.
Why is Mr Abromavich allowing this circus at Stamford Bridge (Supposed to be the richest and most feared club in the world) instead of being percieved as a way and means for smaller clubs to take the big boy for a ride.
The Chelsea FC circus:
Frank Arsenen
Head Academy Scouts
5 years without one professional player coming out of just one Chelsea FC Academy
Chelsea FC Players on a 9 month Holiday
Avram Grant is an AMETEUR manager
FA Premier league title race there shouldn't be a title race
Cheers
Fuck me! Even Garth Crookes thinks there was a whiff about the Sham display, and that's a man with no sympathy for Chelsea whatsoever. He says he hopes Wigan show some effort next week. With them winning today and securing their status in the Prem, that makes such a thing very unlikely indeed. Over to Steve Bruce. Will he prepare the team to have a go and win? I just hope he and his players have a bit more professional pride than that rabble today.
WetSpam may have bent over backwards to make sure we cannot win the title but remember .......... if we hadn't have let that pox Heskey score in the 94th minute, or even worse, Keane practise his shooting skills at 3 Point Lane, then todays result would be immaterial!!! We would have been just one point behind, not three
@Pensioner
Who are you? and what have you been drinking? Easy to win the PL, you're having a laugh!

We have a genius, moron (delete as appropriate) on the blog.
Lets see whether theres any professionalism and integrity left in the Premier League. Or just anti Chelsea syndrome. We will witness it first hand next week. Should we win titles in the future, it will make it even more creditable because with the ‘us against the world’ mentality, we come up on top like the previous title winning campaigns. We do it the hard way and not the 'cheap' way like those Manures. No matter what, im proud of the boys.
ZOOLANDER!
Anyway, what comes about goes around. We shall be the karma for Wigan and West Ham next season. If we need to force them down a tier, i think we will. So much for integrity. Would be interesting to see how Bruce approaches his final match and all his post match interviews. Til then, we will witness first hand on how 'clean' this league us.
Curbishley has that little smirk on his face after he manages to get a win, or even a draw. The guy has an expression that's screaming out 'Give me a good hard SLAP, and remind me I'm not as good as I think I am.'
Imagine if it was the other way around, with us benefiting?
Bad weekend. None of the results went ourway.
Wigan won't need anything from the game.
Still, you never know.
(@TrueBleJoe - Whahey! some support.)
@Biggs - CRACKING stuff mate!
Curbs should be working as a office boy instead of doing this disgraceful job..west ham were absolute disgrace..infact they shouldn't be in the premiership..they are only here because they cheated..today also it was the same thing..
My concern now is Wigan. Yes i know. We can only blame ourselves for dropping points here and there before the Man U match. But still, theres a small sense of injustice eh? Why should the Manures win it 'cheaply' while we must do it the hard way. Victims of our own success?
West Ham were shambolic rather than a disgrace today. I car share with a hammer, and like SedentaryDave he too wanted something a bit more barnstorming for the last bit of the season, after all they were safe ages ago. It does seem to be a Curbishley ailment that once hos team gets the 40 point for safety then he seems to send them on holiday. The only thing missing today was deckchairs, buckets, spades and cozzies.
Alright. Its over. Im almost there and not dwelling on it anymore. After all, we only have ourselves to blame. The points dropped at 3 points lane and Wigan were costly. Thats 4 points given away as free gifts. Im convinced that had we won those games, we would be a point ahead at the top of the table.
At least, i rate the CL more than the BPL for now since we are in the finals. I hope the lads can be well prepared for Moscow and do us proud. I can sense some togetherness in the squad after quite a long time. And what a time for Drogba to find back his goal scoring form!
Come on you blues!
Let's stay positive
Some minor good news for us
Bolton won so, and are safe, unless there is a swing of 12 goal difference against them vs. Fulham, and a swing of 7 goal diff against them vs. Fulham - so they're safe and less incentivised against us next Sunday
In a little piece in today's Guardian, a host of PL managers were asked who they thought would win the premiership, and who they wanted to win. Most managers were happy to say they wanted Man Utd to win it, but Steve Bruce seemed almost affronted with the question - which admittedly might mean guilt on his part in wanting Man Utd, or integrity - let's hop it's the latter

I hope so. But the fact that gave safe answers clearly means that he's in favour of Man U. After the Curbs issue, he has to keep his mouth shut eh? Why do we need to hope that other managers keep their integrity in order for us to win the title?! LOL
@ Z ONE & ONLY
That's different than what Brucie was saying the other day. When asked about whether he's prefer Wigan or Man Ure to win the match (absolutely ridiculous question IMO), he responded along the lines of "my heart is with both"..almost a difficult-to-choose scenario, which i found a bit bizarre to say the least. Surely you'd want your team to go and slaughter the one that you used to play for?! Just as a point to make more than anything? Look at Sparky..he doesn't beat about the bush..and Roy Keane certainly doesn't when asked questions about McFergie!! Then again, it's well known that Brucie and Ye Olde Purple Nose are very good friends, so we'll have to see won't we?
Why doesn't anyone Manager/Pundit/Journo DARE to say what we all know? That in truth, Man Ure just ain't that special? Once again, they may have to rely on goal difference to win the Premiership, not flying it through superior game play or amazing talent as they would have us all believe if we didn't have eyes and know better...I get f***ing sick to death of hearing it!!
@ BIGGS
Your link had me in stitches! Didier and J.T's faces are hilarious!!
If we win on Monday to keep the PL title alive then the problem we have is do Wigan capitulate like Wet Spam did today as they now have nothing to play for plus the Steve Bruce factor? Or perhaps do we hope Wigan will blood some youngsters and hope they have a point to prove and go for glory?
I think we're on a hiding to nothing and the so called purists will be hoping Utd win the title because golden boy Ronaldo, who's done fuck all in the big games has performed against the inferior teams and think the sun shines out of his arse.
@ PENSIONER
Are you McFergie or Whinger in disguise?!
I'd hardly say the Chels were "literally fighting" to stay in the title race..up until today, we were equal on points, (we will be again on monday, no worries there) and in joint top position. That's hardly struggling to win the title IMO!!
You also say there shouldn't be a Preier League Title Race..really? Wouldn't it be a very boring and predictable season without the healthy competition? If it was pre-written who would win the title every season, there'd be no point whatsoever in watching..
Sadly, there's probably nothing particularly surprising about the team that's top of the league getting a much-needed win at home against a mid-table team with nothing to play for; and even more sadly there won't be anything particularly surprising about a team that's top of the table and needs to win its last game to be champions winning that game against a bad team with nothing to play for. Can't really blame the managers for any of that.
But while there's life there's hope. Oddly, beating the smug gits a week ago today was enough for me. The sun shone, the German ruled, they went home whingeing with their tails between their legs. It made the league worthwhile, anything else is a bonus now.
@Lolli
I'm surprised nobody else has picked up on Pensioners nonsense, I reckon it could be Musumba under an alias taking the piss. On saying that Jose Musumba seems a lot more sensible than the crap the Pensioner is spouting, what a wanker! Excuse my rant I'm entertaining friends at a dinner party and I've drunk lots of red wine, some very expensive port, and malt whiskey ;-)
@ LTB
Beating them last week WAS amazing and believe me when i say that i'm still buzzing from it...but i want more, i don't want it to stop there! Wouldn't reclaiming the title just put the icing on the cake? The Champs would be the cherry...
LTB
Sort of agree, mate. And let's not forget that even if we don't win the league, we have an opportunity to right the injustices only one week later in Moscow.
Thanks for all the musical suggestions too....
@ BLUECLOVE
I totally agree with you 100%. His comments are bizarre in the extreme and i can't believe that a Chels fan would come out with such garbage! He obviously hasn't been watching the same games as everyone else here, which leads me to believe he's just trying to cause a bit of controversy...
Do your guests wonder where you keep disappearing to when you're blogging?

No they think I'm going sick because I can't hold my drink.
@ BLUECLIVE
LOL..and bless you. Red wine is my fave also, i thought i had a bottle in but the red wine pixies have been doing the rounds again, which leaves me with the Carling!!!
Is it Grahams Port you've been drinking?
Is it Grahams Port you’ve been drinking?
No I've been drinking Warres Vintage Port, very nice it is to.
Oh i say...how posh you are!!!

It's my wife that earns the money to keep me in the lifestyle I'm accustomed to. ;-)
She must have a job that pays good money!!! (i won't ask!)
I thought my Graham's vintage port was quite impressive at over £50 but Warres..wow!!! That's a 70-80 quid job where i'm from..
In the words of Darth Vader.." Impressive..most impressive"..
She must have a job that pays good money!!! (i won’t ask!)
I don't mind saying what she does, but it's nothing spectacular, she's only a GP.
ONLY a GP....Yup CLIVE, you are indeed loaded!
Is Caviar on the menu?
ONLY a GP….Yup CLIVE, you are indeed loaded!
I wish Lolli.
Enough of the small talk CLIVE, there are some people who come on here every now and then who don't seem to like the fact that some of us actually get along!! Without an e-mail or IM facility though there's no other way to get to know people here.
We all share the same site, interact with each other almost daily, yet don't know a lot about each other. MARK has tried to get us to meet up on numerous occasions and i can see where he's coming from. We "know" each other but don't know each other as such..there are blogs where all of the members meet up at least once a year.
Maybe some people think differently but i respect everyone's input here, whether i agree or disagree with their points of view. I'm just interested in people, that's all...especially the ones who share my love of Chelsea..i really hope no-one has a go at us for veering off the subject as such..
Speech over..back to the debates..
@Lolli
Yep I agree would be good to get to meet and know people a bit better.
Anyway I'm off to bed to look forward to getting up and suffering the mother of all hannggovverrs
You don't get hangovers from quality alcohol Clive...it's just the cheap and nasty versions!!!
Good night sweet x
@ Everyone - 16th birthday party NEARLY over. Spent the night in the pub with ChelseaBob and MrsChelseaBob and met new Chelsea fan ChelseaRob!
Got home and apparently I have 3 16+ blokes in one room........12 16-ish girls kipping in my living room. The music on MY Kenwood is shite and I have never felt older :-(
Time for some Howard Jones!
@ BLUETG
Howard Jones? Classic..."Like to get to know you well" and all that..
My Ma has just texted me, apparently, it's just been on Sky Sports News that Frankie has signed a new contract and is staying at Chelsea..IF this is true, my week can't get better...i bet us fans have played a HUGE part in his decision as well as his family..LOVE YOU FRANK XXXXX
AND...Chelsea have put in an £80million bid for Messi and Barca are on a split decision whether to sell him or not..Chelsea are willing to go to £100million for him...
SIGN HIM UP!!!!!
BLUELOLLI, Hahahaha you beat me to the news, I havent heard about Franks new contract (God let this be true), I just read about the Messi news a few minutes ago and if its true then great, I can see it happening if we win the CL
Imagine this team
Cech
Ferreira
Riccy
JT
Ash
Messi
Super Franky
Essien
Ballack
Joey Cole
Anelka
@ BLUE TRUE BLUE JOE
That is one hell of a gorgeous team!!
Just read that McFergie is gonna make a move for Micah Richards.
Even though Richards signed a deal to keep him at Eastlands until 2013, Nancy has apparently put all player contracts on hold. Man Ure are hoping that a £25million deal will help to sway his decision...even though Sven may not be happy with it. Richard Dunne is up for sale also if all is to be believed. He's got 1 year left on his contract but speculation is that he'll go to Newcastle..
it's getting gritty already boys and girls....
to all..@267 Z One & Only
Why are we hated so much? makes me cringe at the thought of calling Manure's game better than ours!! One look at the game between Barca and Manure and everyone should know who plays for what.
Its unfair!!!!!!! Why doesnt every team just bend down so that Red/Purple nose can stick something up their behinds!! Its disgusting!
and to call Gaynaldo as a great player is a joke, he is just a showman with a few tricks, step overs and some idiotic crap, look at the way he played against Barca!! Ashley definitely makes him look ordinary, and Ricardo knows him inside out.
Wigan, I just wish they play their 'natural' game and not with the thought that they are safe and can take it easy. They are all making it easy for Manure.
And to think that McFergie trying to encourage Keegan to give a tough fight, it is appalling, oh how I hate Manure and especially Purple/Red Nose.
I am so mad that I am sad :(
Well, this is true that we have all the reasons to hate Curbishley and how he rolled over Man Utd. However, we have brought it to ourselves, when we drew at home to Wigan. Wigan game was the most important and it took title initiative out of our hands.
@ Clive….
Must be our suspicious nature…. I thought exactly the same thing about Pensioner / Musumba!
@ Lolli….
Sensational news about Frank if it is true this time, and also that Roman is still interested enough to think about spending 80 million quid on Messi. I confess, I was beginning to worry that his interest was beginning to wane after not showing up for the Utd and Scum games.
@ GREENLIGHT
Yeah, Frank has confided in friends this week that he is ready to sign a 3 year contract and commit to Chelsea..
Didier has also expressed that he has "no desire to leave" and will consider an option to extend his current contract (expires in 2010).
Ballack has said he's going nowhere..he's with us for the long term..
I'm so, so happy..

WELL DONE CHELS! WELL DONE BOYS!!! i am so fucking proud of you guys!!!! Lampsy's penalty kick was so emotional and he did great. Didier - Man of the match, in fact everyone who participated tonight as well. We are actually going to Moscow!!!!!
KTBFFH!!!!!
Take a bow Super Frank. What guts he has to take that penalty! I would have probably pee-ed on my pants if you ask me to do that.
