It's that time of year again. Football fans around the globe are pouring over player statistics in newspapers and on websites convinced they can build a fantasy team that will bring them untold fame and fortune.
Okay. I exaggerate. But trips to the Champions League final, match tickets, official replica team shirts, PlayStations and other great prizes are up for grabs in OleOle's recently launched Fantasy Football competition.
There are five European leagues to choose from: the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, French Ligue 1 or the German Bundesliga. There is also OleOle's exclusive European Super League, in which you can select players from all five country leagues.
Being a proud Englishman I've chosen to concentrate on the world's best league, the English Premier League, mostly because my knowledge of European football is somewhat limited (some would say my knowledge of the English Premier League isn't much better; let's not go there).
So I present to you the Roadhouse Blues, a team consisting of three Aston Villa players, three Wigan players, two from Portsmouth, and one each from Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, West Bromwich Albion, Everton, West Ham United and, last but not least, Chelsea, all managed by old school wheeler dealer Harry Redknapp.
4-4-2: Brad Friedel; Paul Scharner, Ricardo Carvalho, Martin Laursen, Joleon Lescott; Jimmy Bullard, Ashley Young, Niko Kranjcar, Luis Antonio Valencia; Luke Moore, Jermain Defoe.
Subs: Joe Hart, Matthew Upson, Wilson Palacios, Giovanni Dos Santos.
Chelsea Blog regulars BlueBoyDave and LimeTreeBower inspired me in my decision not to include any Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester United players. I like a challenge. And I intend to stick to this rule throughout the season.
I've set up a Chelsea Blog mini-league (yes, you are permitted to select players from the red teams!). Simply pick your English Premier League side then join the mini-league named 'chelseablogpremier' using the password 'chelseablog'. I will add the mini-league table to the blog soon.
If you fancy competing on two fronts, LimeTreeBower has set up a Chelsea Blog mini-league at the Guardian newspaper's Fantasy Football site. League name is 'ChelseaBloggaz', password is 'musumba'. I shall enter my team in the very near future.
Good luck and all that.
Let it roll, baby, roll...
Update: Jonathan's preview of the season is in today's Observer newspaper. You can read it online here.

Does this mean you can't use your european superleague team?
If not, then can we have more than one team?
i added my 'super great XI'! although i'm still trying to find the money for a keeper and another midfielder for the bench, only have 3.8 mil for two more players! :(
if i can ill try to get rid of keane so i'm no reds too, i would go peter crouch but i've already got 3 pompey players :(
ok i managed it, but ive got an awful bench! hope james doesn't get injured :P
Well done Nick - apparently I'm in the queue waiting to be accepted or rejected by you - you wouldn't would you?
Can I point out to anyone with short-term memory loss or who didn't read the discussion on the last blog that Limetreebower suggested as a compromise:
How about this as Guardian/Chelseablog FF Extra Rule #1 --
"Participants may select players from EITHER ManUre OR Arse OR 'Poo, but may not include players from more than one of those teams."
Like you I intend to stick to the purist "No Reds Here" policy completely.
A bold step to reveal your starting squad to us all before the deadline for Gameweek 1 - unless you plan to change it all now to your real team before next Saturday ;-).
I've been struck by the ridiculously high values placed on many players in the OleOle league so I've just done a comparison of your squad there with the Official Barclays FF League which also needs 15 players and has same kind of scoring system.
Your OleOle squad leaves you with a spare 0.2m according to my calculation, while in the Official Barclays one you would still have 7m to strengthen your squad by say, adding one of Deco/Lampard/Ballack to your midfield and Drogba or Anelka to your strikers!
I commend the Guardian game to all but if people are up for a 3rd FF game Komatosed mentioned a Mini-League he has set up in the Official Barclays Premier FF there - see entries Nos 133 and 134 on the last blog for details.
@Haberdashers - you are allowed 1 entry in each of the 6 leagues if your knowledge of the other leagues is good enough - personally, I struggle badly with the obscure cannon fodder in the EPL without looking abroad too...
@Habs - I'm not sure I understand the question. To enter the Chelsea Blog mini-league you need to select a team in the English Premier League game. I'm pretty sure you can select a team in each of the European leagues as well as the European Super League.
@Cap123 - It certainly isn't easy to select a team - I spent a while shoehorning players into my team (made all the more difficult by not selecting any red players). I like how it makes you think a bit more, though, rather than just allowing you to select a team of big guns.
I've now submitted Big Phil's Blue Army to the mini league using a premier league team whilst keeping my EU team for the EU superleague.
Thanks all.
Morning all
Have just applied for the mini league found it very hard picking a team but managed without any RED players, but do have one in my other leagues.
OK guys this has to be said, can we please stop being so intellectual on this blog for a week or so. It's difficult for dullards like me to comprehend some of the banter that goes on. So the main culprits, JD TG MB BB LTB FIFTEE HABS BBD MARK refrain from the snobbery that CFC fans are often stereotyped with as being "Hooray Henrys"
What we need is more fans on a simplistic level like myself and that sexy (Essex type girl) Lolli and of course (we do miss him) Mr Musumba!
And as far as the FF league goes I will take the moral high ground and do as I suggested in a previous post and only pick players at less than £6.5 million, so relegation is a must for my team!
I'm pissed so if you don't like what I say then fuck off! :-)
A nice article highlighting the excitement surrounding Chelsea this season. With Robinho, i predict that we will be league champions again, at the very least:

Morning all,
Chelseablog preview of the season from today's Observer (hope the link works...)
LINK
I shall not be using any Chelsea players in my fantasy team, on the basis that me including any player in my side automatically turns them into leaden-footed donkeys that couldn't hit a large cow's arse with an even bigger banjo.
Cheers, @BlueBoyDave. I'm considering entering the same team in the Guardian's FF, just to see how I fare.
@Clive 8. - Hangover? ;-) For those interested in such things, the Orwell Prize is publishing the diaries of George Orwell in the form of a blog with the entries exactly as he wrote them. The diary entries are being posted in real-time, 70 years after they were first written, starting with his August 9th, 1938 entry and continuing on through October 1942. LINK
@JD 10. - Nice one. Thanks for the link. I've updated the post.
What is it with the Observer/Guardian? - they just refuse to give up on the Kaka to Chelsea rumour:
LINK
Perhaps they employ too many of those "Hooray Henrys" that Clive is bothered about above.
@Clive - I look forward to seeing your choice of strikers in the OleOle game with your self-imposed price limit ;-)
@BBD
I'm climbing down as I type from my moral high ground, I see what you mean with regard prices.
@Nick
Yes hangover I've only just managed to drag myself out of bed. :-)
@ JD..thanks for posting the link..
It's interesting to see how 99% of the season preview writers are predicting my local team Stoke wil be relegated and the season hasn't kicked off yet!!
To be completely honest though, most people from S-O-T don't think we'll have a good season either but we hope they give it a damn good shot!
Expect suprises with Ricardo Fuller..he's a great player, very talented. I see him giving a few defenders in the Prem a run for their money!
@ 8. CLIVE
I've only just read that post! It's hilarious!! Who rattled your earrings at that hour of the morning?!!
@Lolli
Nobody in particular rattled anything apart from the wife who told me to stop drinking my whisky as I'd regret it in the morning. (Yeah she was right)
I also think that being drunk in charge of a mouse and keyboard should carry the same sort of punishment by law as drink driving.
I've picked my team of misfits called the cunningplans and joined the mini league,I'm aiming for a bottom three finish. :-)
Just joined the mini-league with my team "Kraftwerk". For some odd reason I can have Emre from Fenerbahce playin in midfield. ^^
At Clive 8
Most people that get uncontrollably pissed usually
1. Have another drink
2. Vomit in the gutter (unless you’re very rich and famous when instead you can vomit in the bajingo of your favourite hairdresser’s apprentice)
3. Have unprotected sex with someone or something that you probably shouldn’t
4. Pass out
But Clive; you switch on your PC, enter your username and password (of course you’ve got one because you don’t want Mrs Clive snooping on your emails to Lolli), fire up you browser and proceed to type in a fairly lucid comment.
Maybe you’re not as simple as you’d like to be?
@Mark
I did have a password but the wife is currently torturing me, as she also wants to see what my e-mails to Lolli contain.
As far as your drinking suggestions go.... point one and four are certainties, point two and three sound like fun.
@ MARK & CLIVE
Erm....leave me out of this one guys, thankyou!!! ;D :D
Evening all.
I return to find that I have been accused of engaging in acts of self-abuse over rolling stock by one of our foremost female correspondents and of being a Hooray Henry by young Clive while he was the worse for drink.
However I shall rise above this to congratulate the Kaiser on a balanced and well written piece in the Observer, my only regret being that he didn't use his new monicker.
A survey of the other contributors revealed that those from Blackburn, Bolton, Everton, Man City, Newcastle, Portsmouth, Stoke, Sunderland and West Ham predicted that we will be Champions. The West Brom representative said either us or Manure and the Scouser said us, Manure or Liverpool. This was the only vote for a team other than us or Manure. No-one fancies the Arse it seems.
I would suggest that fans from the above, including West Brom but not Liverpool are welcomed at Fulham Broadway tube with a cup of tea and a macaroon.
Those from the others should be forced to walk from Fulham Broadway in their pants and pelted with the contents of the boroughs food recycling bins.
I'm off now but my lawyers will be monitoring the site for any further actionable comments that seek to besmirch my good name.
Toodle Pip!
@ 21.BLUEBAYOU
I agree totally..what CLIVE said about you was totally unforgivable!!
Best of British with the lawyers!!! x
So the Penalty curse appears to have even affected Diarra and Johnson, now they have moved on to Portsmouth.
Didn't see the game over here, but the report I read seemed to indicate that Utd were fairly toothless without Ronaldo and Rooney. Is that a fair assessment of the game?
Good news :
Reports that Hull and Stoke are 'fighting' over the right to sign Claudio Pizarro.
One can only imagine the discussions are progressing as such : 'You have him; No, you have him....'
What is it with stories about Invanovic moving ??? SSN are reporting Ac Milan are close to agreeing a deal. Tell you what, chuck Kaka into the offer and we'll talk....
Is it just me or are we missing the match report where we beat Milan 5-0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What's going on - i want to gloat about that result!!!
In a short career (3 plays at school), which lit up the theatrical world like a damp sparkler on a wet guy fawkes night, my first appearance was in a play called The Royal Hunt of the Sun. The play plotted the destruction of the Inca nation by Franciso Pizarro in 1532.
Judging by his lack of pace Claudio may be 490 years old and therefore a contemporary or near relative of the great man.
(Biographical Note: I played Manco, an Inca messanger. Where theatre folk gather my interpretation of the part is still spoken of in hushed whispers of admiration.....or so I like to think)
I've just submitted my score predictions for a competition run at work.
I've done them up to the end of October and, maybe surprisingly, I think we'll do better out of the Man USA game than any of the others. This is what I came up with :
Chelsea v Portsmouth 1 - 1
Wigan v Chelsea 1 - 2
Chelsea v Tottenham 1 - 1
Man City v Chelsea 1 - 2
Chelsea v Man Utd 2 - 1
Stoke v Chelsea 1 - 2
Chelsea v Aston Villa 2 - 2
Middlesbrough v Chelsea 1 – 3
Chelsea v Liverpool 1 - 1
Steady if unspectacular. And I genuinely believe that's how this season will be for us. We'll be there or thereabouts at the end, but I dont think we'll fly out of the blocks.
not a single clean sheet? you don't think much of our defence do you :( even stoke!
The Kaka rumours remind me of the Shevchenko transfer. You think it's utter tabloid-driven bollocks and about as likely to happen as Petr Cech finishing top scorer, when all of a sudden the club announces they're close to signing him. Hopes. Too. High?
According the the BBC, Phil Brown's move for Pizarro is "ambitious". Not a word I'd use. Foolhardy more like.
@Fiftee - Four draws in the first five home games? And a win over United? Brave. That said, they do look tough fixtures on paper. And there is the unbeaten home record to think of, which has become a millstone around our neck. Hmm... you could be on to something. Have an accumulator down the bookies - it'll pay big. ;-)

Yea, anything can still happen before the window closes. But 100m Euros is madness. We could use that money and invest on a couple more top quality players. For that kind of money, we can buy Sergio Aguero and David Villa combined together. This deal doesnt make any buisness sense to me. If it does go through for this ridiculous fee, i would be gutted because we will miss out on other emerging talents where this money could be put to better use.
Jang mate you seem to be forgetting we have an owner with more money than sense, he probably thinks we'll get most of the transfer back in shirt sales, especially if Lolli models them. :)
@CAP123,
I guess not !!! Hadn't occured to me until you mentioned it, but in the past few seasons we have always had patches of conceding stupid and un-necessary goals. I;m sure it'll be the same this season. And there's no indication of when Bosingwa will be fit, so there'll be upheaval when he finally comes back.
I'm a pessimist at heart, that's why.
@Nick,
I can't bet on Chelsea the same way JD mentioned he can't pick our boys in his fantasy football team. The merest hint of me spending £1 on the outcome of a Chelsea match turns the team into baboons.
Last time I put any money on a Chelsea win, we were playing in the FA Cup against a lowly, almost amateur, outfit called Barnsley. Maybe it was my fault...
Says it all that the only interest in Pizarro is from 2 of the newly promoted clubs, no doubt looking for one of our generous loan deals where we keep paying most of the player's stupidly high wages.
Will be interesting to see if he turns down this and any other offers that arrive and as someone predicted on another website recently moves toward becoming the new Winston Bogarde, happier to sit on his bum with us without kicking a ball in anger rather than move on and jeopardise his inflated salary.
The new season is starting in 6 days time for us. Players still to be sold: Pizarro and possibly Belletti. Our squad number still exceed 25 players. Players to buy: Robinho, Kaka, Silva? Someone who will give us that cutting edge which we SORELY MISS during our title winning campaigns.
Apparently Joe Cole is going to Aston Villa. Hahaha. Why would you leave potentially the best club in the world for a club only capable of the Intertoto cup?
Accordint to Chelsea TV,Essien and Drogba didn't take part in the open day training session, both look very doubtful for Portsmouth.
Boswinga was involved so perhaps he might start instead of Fereirra or Belleti.
#36
Missing Essien would be a blow for the first match. Any updates on his situation?
Villa have agreed a fee for Cuellar from Rangers. Hes a very solid player and they are looking good for next season. But I sincerely hope that the Joe Cole rumors are a bunch of trash. No way would he leave unless he was forced out and that definetly wont happen. If Essien is out then thats a big blow as we only have Mikel for cover in that position. Hopefully it is just a knock and he can take some part in the opening game of the season.
@JANG
This is from another site, not much info I'm afraid.
"The only players missing for the event were Didier Drogba and Michael Essien (both injured) and Salomon Kalou (Olympic Games duty)".
A bit more news
"Luiz Felipe Scolari yesterday received a boost before Chelsea's opening Barclays Premier League match against Portsmouth when José Bosingwa returned to training after three weeks out with a thigh injury. The Portugal right back has not played since limping off 20 minutes into his debut against Ghangzhou Pharmaceutical in China last month, but has an outside chance of being fit to face Harry Redknapp's side at Stamford Bridge on Sunday
Essien missed training with a knock yesterday, but is expected to have recovered by the weekend."
Great news that Bosingwa's back in training and hopefully Essien will be fit. If they are both available i think we will be too good for Pompey:
Cech
Bosingwa Ricky JT Cole
Essien Lamps
SWP Deco Cole
Anelka
Many of you will look on in horror as i pick SWP for the Pompey game, but i do feel he should and will start. He needs to boost his confidence (although that seems to have been his problem for his entire Chelsea career!) But apart from that what are our options. With no Robinho or Kaka and Kalou in Beijing are other options are playing a diamond with Ballack who has missed a lot of pre-season or MALOUDA! This does show how thin our attacking options are without a new signing.
One of the most interesting parts will be seeing 7 Chelsea subs on Sunday. I hope we see some youngsters:
Carlo, Paulo, Mikel, Ballack, Malouda, Di Santo, Sinclair.
News that Milan are on the verge of signing Ivanovic isn't good news. He's one of the most highly rated young defenders in Europe and in his few appearances so far i would play him ahead of Alex. Many people thought Alex should of kept his place ahead of JT last year, but that is simply idiotic. He's still a big, cumbersome and slow lump of a defender who proves that Brazilians are never good defenders. He may be good at heading the ball but his lack of mobility and ball control was covered up by being constantly paired with Ricky. Whenever he played with TBH you saw how he's nowhere near the level of JT or Ricky. I would like to keep Ivanovic but the only positive out of this is that Mancienne may be given a chance as our back up CB. Although the fact that he didn't go to China or Russia and doesn't have a squad number doesn't bode well.
It seems that Kenyon is willing to do another Essien or Ashley Cole and play the waiting game until we make our one star signing of the summer. Talk of Kaka does remind me of the Sheva saga which suddenly resulted in a deal. Fingers crossed!
Plan B - Malouda starting.
That should have been 'our other options.'
LINK
Seems odd that Scolari was happy to give SWP his backing the other day, and yet Joe Cole seems disillusioned with things.
Sounds like it is probably just paper talk.... Given what he has been through proving himself to previous managers, given that he is a Chelsea fan, and given that Liverpool are the club interested, I cannot see him moving on.
"Sportsmail can reveal that Scolari has not been convinced by the England midfielder in pre-season and has urged Chelsea to sign Robinho as a direct replacement." What a load of complete trash. Scolari has said that Joe Cole is one of the best in the world and will be key to his plans.
Isnt this the same newspaper that was claiming that quoted Lamps as saying that he cant see himself staying at Chelsea and will sign for Inter Milan? Its pure trashy gossip. Joe Cole to Liverpool? Someone is having a laugh there.
I'm sure Wayne Bridge will be signing for Portsmouth any day now.
Don't.
Believe.
A.
Word.
As PETEW says, dont believe it - it's all paper talk with no substance.
Much like us signing Robinho and Kaka.
Never gonna happen.....
I'm sure I read some comments of Scolari's pointing out Joe Cole's importance to the team if we are to play exciting football.

Kalou looking sharp...
Living in the arse of the country (literally, Norfolk is the backside of England) I had no idea of yesterdays 'open doors' training session.
Did anyone go ??
Did anything of note happen, such as Pizarro or Sheva scoring; Malouda crossing with accuracy; SWP beating a full back for pace and delivering WITH quality; Ivanovic merely being alive or are these the sort of things that only exist in that little black box under my TV called a PlayStation ??
Our leader's got more influence than I realised LINK
Who's the David Silva fan on here? Bad news I'm afraid: Man United have failed in an initial bid to sign him, according to his agent.
The latest news in the long running Robinho saga,
Chelsea's hopes of landing Robinho ahead of the Barclays Premier League season could hinge on the suggestions in Spain he is demanding a fresh deal from Real Madrid to double his wages
Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster sees no problem with Robinho's attitude despite suggestions he is unhappy with the way he is being treated by the Spanish champions.
Robinho's agent Wagner Ribeiro was quoted as saying last week that the forward was "very angry" at Madrid for being treated like an "average player".
However, if that is the case then it does not appear to be affecting Robinho's work, with Schuster admitting: "Robinho looks good to me. He's been training like the rest and with the same happiness that is characteristic of him. There is nothing more to say."
Not really a shock, looks like he was using us to get a longer and bigger contract from Madrid.Hope everyone is happy with the fact that we won't be signing anyone before the end of August.
I don't really know why Robinho was our one and only target,it sort of limited the choice and left us with no other options. We should have at least made Madrid sweat a bit like the way they did with us over Robben's transfer.
#51
Well we are so persistant on Robinho that Scolari has overlooked David Silva. I would be gutted that he comes to England but not Chelsea. Hope he stays in Spain. Heard that he has snubbed the initial move.
53, Yes Robinho has been our main target but the club has tried to sign Silva before and he does not want to come to the Premier League. Also they have decided to keep Malouda so unfortunetly we have had only Bosingwa and Deco to strengthen the squad (other than the january arrivals). I think that Silva is a great player but his style doesnt exactly match the physicality of the best league in the world. I would have gone for Arshavin, They wasted their time throwing their money at Real Madrid trying to sign a player who they wanted to keep. If they had offered £20m to Zenit then they would have been forced to sell but instead he could be going to Spuds. Something wrong there.
#54
Since when did we made an offer for Silva? But i heard that he's staying in Spain so its fine with me. Arshavin could be a one season wonder trap so i would prefer Robinho. Well, every player we get from foreign leagues would be a gamble. Thing is what are the chances. All i know is that we are short of the final signing to complete the jigsaw. That kind of cutting edge that has been sorely missed during our title winning campaigns. I dont care who we buy as long as we can rediscover that fearsome wingplay which terrorised loads of teams 3 years back. =)
Lampard, Drogba, Carvalho, Shevcheko Ronaldo, Berbatov, Barry, Eto'o, Henry, Adebayor, Fabregas, Robinho, Silva, Villa, Arshavin, Pavlychenko, Kaka, Moutinho .....
I reckon the above players would have collectively been responsible for about $1 billion in newspaper sales over the summer, and to this point, not a single one of them has moved anywhere or done anything!
Quite Frankly the press talk so much bollocks that anyone that actually buys a paper on a regular basis needs their head examined. Seriously, it's no wonder that they make the articles available for free on the internet! Nothing is about all they are worth.
At least John Terry has started to show some mettle unlike anyone else at the Bridge with regards man-u. Let's hope the other players and the idiots who own and run the club start to understand the important thing is to stop man-u dominating the Prem as they did before JM arrived. The obsession with the Champions league and circus football must stop. Winning is all and is the only thing that makes the history books. Well see if Scholari and the board understand this or if we are to finish no better than Liverpool and Arsenal with nothing in the cupboard again. We have to win every game from the start 1-0 if need be and keep going JM style until we hammer man-u by december and make sure the refs understand the eyes of everyone is on them when they referee man-u games as happened in the last game of the season. I believe this season will be one of the most important in the life of the prem since talking to other fans i sense many will start turning away from the Prem if man-u is allowed to dominate again and why would be pay £60 plus to see us win nothing!
Yet more Robinho news, this is getting boring now, please end this one way or another soon.
Bernd Schuster has reiterated to Chelsea that Real Madrid have no intention of allowing Brazil international Robinho to leave the club.
Reports also claim that Robinho, who has held contract talks with Real, has been offered a more persuasive financial package by The Blues.
However Schuster insists the club hold their player in the highest esteem.
“We are not contemplating his departure - Robi will continue with us,” said Schuster.
Robinho scored in Real’s 1-1 pre-season friendly draw against Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday and, after the match, Schuster responded to questions about the player's future.
“Robinho is happy as always,” Schuster insisted
Another report
Sports daily Chelsea have upped their bid from £19.75 million to £25m in an attempt to secure the deal before the start of the new Premier League season, which kicks off on Saturday.
It says Chelsea are offering Robinho an annual salary of around £4 million, more than double his wages at Real.
Robinho is said to feel undervalued at the Bernabeu, where his contract does not compare with top earners like Raul, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Fabio Cannavaro.
However, AS, another Spanish sports daily, reported yesterday that the Brazilian's overwhelming preference is to remain at Madrid - with an improved contract.
The paper said Robinho has no enthusiasm for English football and has admitted his dislike for the British climate. And, if true, that would seem to fuel suspicions Robinho is simply using Chelsea's interest to engineer a bigger contract from Madrid.
Chelsea TV will be breaking into its published schedule tonight to bring you a world exclusive Chelsea story in a Blues News Special at 5pm
This Robinho or Kaka fiasco is taking too long. Kenyon should ask Robinho's real intentions. If he wants to stay, than give us an answer so that everyone can move on and look for a new target. We dont have enough time to dwell on his issue week in week out as the new season is starting this Saturday. So please Binho, say something. Kenyon that idiot is procastinating things.
JANG, I heard we made an offer for him ast season but it doesnt really matter.
Arshavin has been the top assist maker in the Russian Premier League for the last 5 seasons and has a great record for the national team (37/11). So hes definetly not a "1 season wonder". However I think we are more likely to see Malouda play well this season or we should definetly sign a new winger if he doesnt justify the £13m we paid for him.
I hear the club has a "major announcement" to make at 5pm. A new contract for Lamps proberbly.
SSN have said that sources have reported that the news concerns Lampard, hope it is for Lolli's sake.
@ DIO 57
well said mate! Absolutely spot on. Premier League has got to be top priority and it's great JT and Lamps see it that way as well. It's imperative they do if only to offset the numbness of the suits with this regard.
I have to say the schedule (between us and ManUre) at the beginning is in our favour. Let's see if we can take advantage of it. They also have a couple of key injuries at the minute. We need to get off with a cracking start.
@ Evillynn 60
Can't wait. Thanks for the heads up!
Hopefully is not just regular hype......
Is it Lamps signing his new contract??
:=D
@Lynn - I wouldn't count out Robinho turning up at the Bridge before the end of August - the Essien transfer was similarly protracted and that still went through. But, as I said in a previous comment, I think Robinho's angling for an improved deal at the Bernabeu - if he doubles his current wages then you would have to say his agent's done his job.
I doubt the "major announcement" at 5pm has anything to do with Robinho - much more likely to be something to do with Lampard's contract. The club is certainly developing a taste for the dramatic. Unless it's to announce the signing of Kaka! Again, very unlikely.
A worrying report from a think tank: LINK Mass migration?! :-)
It'll probably be Lamps' new contract.
Agree with the comments on 62 about Ashavin. Definitely not a one season wonder.
Would be a nice surprise if it turned out to be him signing for us instead of Robinho.
BTW. good to see Kalou continuing his goalscoring (even though he did miss a couple...)
It's going to be Lamps signing a new contract - pictured with pen just for me and BBD.
And if it's not Lamps signing a new contract, it most certainly wont be an announcement about a new player - I've already promised the blog we're not signing any more.
It'll more than likely be some 'sensational' news about how we've agreed a link up with Goat Farmers XI from Mongolia and how their best youngsters will come to Chelsea on trial in exchange for us playing up a mountain in pre-season.
I'm actually under-whelmed by it. The club hoping everyone will tune in to what will end up being a load of bobbins.
And I'm still massively disappointed at the lack of new signings. At least the season starts this weekend.
@Fiftee - I'm glad I'm not the only cynic on here!
Looking forward to seeing what Frank has to say about the brouhaha surrounding his contract - if it is about Frank*.
I'm going to be peeved if the announcement is anything other than Lamps signing a contract or the signing of Kaka.
*I'm glad he's staying, but I don't know what I will feel when he grabs the badge and plants a big kiss on it after scoring against Pompey on Sunday.
@70 chelseablog - I'll rejoice at some in the flesh badge-kissing again and drown the cynical qualms by reflecting on all the points he'll be racking up in my assorted FF teams!
Its Lamps signing a new deal for sure. Oh god wait until Lolli hears of this.
If it is Lamps signing his contract why are they making a big song and dance over it?
Are we celebrating?
a) Lamps pictured with hammer nailing Kenyon's bollocks to the floor
or
b) Kenyon pictured with hammer nailing Kenyon's bollocks to the floor
From what we understood of matters someone was going to lose out.
see I had to answer the phone in the middle of that and I maked a mistook...
b) should have of course read
Kenyon pictured with hammer nailing Lampard's's bollocks to the floor
I had to answer the phone in the middle of that and maked a mistook
b) should read
Kenyon pictured with hammer nailing Lampard's bollocks to the floor
Then again I'd pay money to see Kenyon nailing his own goolies. Maybe the NOTW has pictures obtained under nefarious circumstances......
Lampard signs new contract,no new player announcement
Hardly world exclusive news,a player re-signing a contract.
Five year deal has been signed.
Whats with the big fuss. A world exclusive news only on Lampard signing a new contract? Come on Mr Kenyon, surely you can do better. I dont mean that i dont want Lampard to stay but content wise, surely he can do better by clearing all the transfer speculation ESPECIALLY ROBINHO AND IVANOVIC that has been surrounding the club for the past few days? It would do us Chelsea fans a huge favour.
JANG, world exclusive is over the top yes but they did it to get people talking and excited and boy did it work. If you arent bothered about Lamps signing a new deal then thats fine. Kenyon wont say "We cant sign Robinho" or "They wont sell him" all he can say is whether talks are ongoing or have broken down which they proberbly have. I am not sure about Ivanovic but Milan have severeal defenders who can cover up their injuries.

All i hope for is the management to clear the air and clearify all the recent speculations, putting an end to it. Nothing wrong with that surely? Season's starting and we need our squad to be complete ASAP. If theres no more signings, so be it but personally, i want to know whats going on with our transfer campaign in its final phase. Cheers.
80, I agree totally about new signings. It would havebeen nice to sign a young winger like Silva but to buy new players they have to get rid of players like Malouda and it would have been hard for them to find a club that will pay the right price for him considering how he performed last season. Hopefully Scolari does it his way and gets rid of the players that arent needed eg Pizarro, Belletti etc and gives us more promising youngsters like Cork, Tejera and so on.
JANG, Regarding Ivanovic. Maybe this helps.
Ivanovic Move Depends On Milan And Chelsea - Agent
Branislav Ivanovic’s agent Vlado Borozan admits that his client is ready to make the switch to Milan but the move now depends on both the Rossoneri and Chelsea agreeing a deal for the stopper. The San Siro-based club have been eyeing the stopper who is no longer a part of Luis Felipe Scolari’s plans.
Ivanovic has not even made his debut for Chelsea since signing for them in January. The 24-year-old is looking for a quick exit and Milan are pushing the move through according to the agent.
“We can’t do anymore, it’s now down to both clubs. The player has already agreed to move,” Borozan told Tuttomecatoweb.
“Ivanovic spoke with his side a few days ago and they agreed he could move.
“Now it’s down to the clubs. The player tried to leave in the past but he wasn’t able to. Now Milan have come in to help him.
“I cannot say more than this.”
The Rossoneri are trying hard to wrap up a deal for the Russian defender as they attempt to fill the gaps in their back line.
Alessandro Nesta’s injury has forced the Rossoneri back onto the market and Ivanovic will be his cover.
Damn no appearences and hes leaving? They didnt even give him a chance. Oh well its from goal.com so theres a good chance its not true. :)

You're absolutely right. I cannot understand why Ivanovic wont get a chance at Chelsea. He hasnt played a single game god damn it and he's leaving? What nonsense is that? It JUST DOESNT MAKE SENSE TO ME! I hope its the usual goal.com BULLSHITTING!
Nice team... the only change I would make is putting Wilson Palacios as a starter... he has got leadership and he dominates the central midfield... he looks like a huge asset to any team. He calms down play and has brilliant vision of the field. I was surprised he was a substitute.
Good team. I would add Gomes from Tottenahm though as goalkeeper.
