It's been a relatively quiet week if you ignore the news that Jose Mourinho's leaving for Inter Milan, Frank Lampard's off to the warmer climes of Barcelona, Arjen Robben to Three Point Lane and Shaun Wright-Phillips to Liverpool. Without a Chelsea match to work themselves into a frenzy over, the hacks have had a field day dismantling the current squad. All in a day's work I suppose. Hopefully the team will give them something to get their teeth into today -- a goalfest similar to the reverse fixture at the Bridge on Boxing Day with any luck.
Mourinho has two minor injury concerns. Eidur Gudjohnsen was reported as having a temperature after training on Thursday, while Claude Makelele received a knock during the same session. Both are expected to recover and be in contention for a starting place. The only player definitely out is Arjen Robben who will be serving the second match of his four-match ban for receiving two red cards this season. Wayne Bridge, who is on loan at Craven Cottage till the end of the season, is not allowed to play under the terms of the deal.
Prediction: We're unbeaten in nine Premiership matches against Fulham (six wins, three draws). We've won six on the trot in all competitions against the Cottagers -- five of which were League contests including last season's 1-4 win in this fixture. Chris Coleman's side kept up their appalling away record (no wins this season) in midweek when they were thrashed 5-1 by goal-shy Liverpool. Luckily their home form is a deal better: nine wins and two draws, which will surely keep them in the Premiership. A defeat today will have them looking over their shoulder though. 0-2.

A very grim result with Gallas getting a straight red and therefore an instant 3 match ban, it seems we are going to make very hard work with this run in. If we can't do Fulham like Airline did, then what about Blackburn and Bolton away from home? I get the feeling the wheels, although not off, are very definitely loose and if we do retain the title then it's because of our first half of the season and not the second.
Points: Will fulham be fined for the pressure their players applied for the subsequently disallowed goal? The ref didn't see it and neither did the linesman. Even if it was right then "guessing" a decision is wrong.
Lastly - what about the pitch invasion at the end from Fulham fans? Wonder what the FA will do there then? Here's my guess....NOTHING! But had that happened at The Bridge one can only guess how points would be deducted.
A shit day and a real let down. I hope the players, including Lamps who missed a downright siter look long and hard at how the second half of this season has gone. GJ
GJ et al,
I try my best to be objective and to not be accused of 'paranoia', but I agree wholeheartedly with your comments. Ultimately we did deserve to lose; that wasn't a performance worthy of Premiership champions.
But the disallowed goal, while technically 'correct', was quite simply scandalous; neither the ref nor the linesman had any clue that Drogba hand-balled. The pressure inflicted on the ref by the Fulham players (the equivalent behaviour by our players would have had all and sundry baying for blood) resulted in the goal being disallowed. Based on the television evidence and circumstances -- in that the officials could not be sure any offence was commited -- it was an unbelievable decision.
And as for the pitch invasion -- if that had occured at the Bridge we'd probably be looking at a points deduction, just to make the League more 'interesting'.
In the end Fulham deserved the win. I, like Jose, have a lot of time and respect for Chris Coleman and hope he leads Fulham to better things.
We were poor today but we improved second half, maybe should have got a draw out of the game but we didnt take the chances.
This defeat should serve as a wake up call to the players and JM, some have been under-performing and JM needs to get us to kill games off when were winning 1-0, and also allow more time to see how the game goes before making substitutions.
im rather disappointed by Chelsea's recent performance in the league; 3-0 trashing by Middlesbrough, and now, lose to Fulham 1-0. The only consolation I have is that it was all away games. But right now, Im contemplating the possibility that Chelsea might not be able to win the title, or even the FA Cup. Shit!
by the way, I think my Chelsea shirt is jinxed. Of the three times I wore it before a match, Chelsea had a shock lost to Middlesbrough, lose to Barcelona at home and lose to Fulham. Never once when I wore it Chelsea won a match. Ok, maybe a little too superstitious or a fan trying to find excuses as to why Chelsea is breaking apart rapidly and Lampard's form is degrading rapidly.
See, that's exactly what I meant before the Spurs match. And even though that one ended with a miracle, it was shit anyway. And now the climax of the shit. We are horribly aweful this year, Jose and his players need to think hard about how we've been playing. I wish the gap was gone. That way we'll see the real Chelsea, if it's still possible.
don't blame the cup, it's due to having a manager who is so full of himself he takes off the wrong players and brings on even worse players, his tactics are showing thier true colours now, maureeen will be sacked at the end of the season
This is the last season you will win anything, and this win is as shallow as they come. Enjoy your title as the rest of the world c*nts you off.
Next season you can watch a real team with real history play in a real stadium with real fans.
Mourinho wanted to attack the game with counter attack!!!, with the starting of Shaun Wright-philips and Joe cole but all yield no result, why should mourinho start SWP? he think he can overhaul fulham. Am so dissapointed being a chelsea fan....What a mess from drogba it was a clean handball no doubt about that the official did not denied drogba of any goal as far as i am concern. Fulham should have given a penalty earlier on, on the challange from john terry but they were denied of; Chelsea players are found complaining to the officials why? Enough of this mess. I found it very difficult with mourinho to accept defeat why? Whenever chelsea loses a match mourinho will never appologise to the fans rather he finds who to blame either players or officials.Fulham, no doubt were outplayed in every position. fair play to fulham, they kept their concentration, and held their positions well. fulham were solid throughout and defended well. Mourinho lets enjoy your appology at least this time around.
"tis true that we were down but improved 4 the worst in the second half.one thing we need to know as faqns is that the team is star studed including the coach who himself cant accuse his players. After the game that we needed gallas goal to win I saw yesterdays loss coming. let this be a wake up call to JM and our boys if not so blackburn are more stingy than fullham
Favourites fall at every hurdle! Trainer blames other forces! Too many second rate performances on good ground! Excuse the metaphors but this was a poor show, more akin to the old days before we had the best stable around. Losing at the Cottage was not really an option but we did it in style as well. A performance that was almost as bad as Middlesboro, showed very little guile, brains or real passion. Not so much shocked as surprised that the team could not make adjustments of their own given the overall quality we possess. Admittedly Jose's hard edged reaction after 25 minutes with two subs was not that surpsrising given that I, amongst others, thought that many of the team were still at the races (Cheltenham) and NOT at the races at all. Did you see Joe Cole's reaction? He must be very fed up with this and still he does remain one player who can change a game with a moment of sheer skill. JM does seem to have a problem with Joe - and I wish they'd sort it out SOON!!
A truly abysmal first half gave way to a marginally better second half but we don't look like we can adapt when teams mark Claude - a good tactic - so that we use our other talents to the full. The lack of thought in our play is a mystery but if we continue with players who are only high energy, pressure players but without the subtelty needed sometimes to break down a packed defence, then what do we expect? Without JC on the pitch, with Frank looking lost - and no Eidur available, our passing went awry
Two final thoughts. Billy G lost his very professional head when Duffer was being raked on the ground. Stupid error. Referee Dean did what he had to do but did nothing about Brown - hence Jose's view that we are treated differently to other teams. Not surpsrising given the decision not to award the goal on a 'feeling' that something was wrong! Oh and in which law does a feeling get a mention?
Move on Jose - you don't have a hope against the establishment - this is not a winner! Get the squad back on track with some nurturing and changes and show the Barcodes on Wednesday that we mean business.
And, if we are to retain the Premier League title, we need to play more like thtoroughbreds and less like carthorses - see the horseracing motif still remains!!
There's no need to panic.....ffs get them lifeboats down. women and children first.what do you mean captain ,surely you've seen another 6.2ft 10 year old with a beard.
No I really don't feel the need to panic at this moment but i would like to reflect on the way the teams been playing at this moment amongst other things.
just why are we playing just down right shite football this punting the ball up the pitch all scouse like.all this scrappy street urchin football..no no no!
Wheres the style gone , gone are the days when we used to pass through through the back 4 to lamps and makelele then out to Cole and Duff or if used swp, alright at this point it could all go horribly wrong enter Drogba villain or hero of the piece erm jury's going for a majority verdict on this one me thinks....
The team needs strengthening of that there is no doubt, a decent out and out striker or two .Left back cover for bridgey and a good right back come in no 20 your time is up! sorry Ferrari m8.
As regards to the decisions regarding the goal its was a pantomime farce. The ref and linesman's were all surrounded by Fulhams red Indians and like cornel custard crumpled and gave a momentous decision based on the modern wonders of.... you got it a buzzer on the lineman's arm! now there's a new meaning to beam me up Scottie. ref to enterprise. Scottie was that a handball or not..err fuck knows but its them cocky gits Chelsea so you know what to do.
It's a shame that the same device couldn't be used to examine the Fulham mob baying the Chelsea supporters on the pitch because you wait and see were all be blamed for there pitch invasion. point's off all that old chestnut.
now come on Chelsea faithful "into the breech once more lads". forever blue.
Fulham will get hauled before the FA but let off because they have no previous. Their fans were hilarious - acting like a non-league team who have just scraped a home draw against Man Utd: really shows what a small-time club they are. Still, nice for them to have their little moment - must be difficult living in the shadows of Chelsea and QPR all their lives... Also, congrats to Foo on breaking the all-comers record (previously held by Aston Villa) for scarpering off the pitch as soon as three Chelsea fans 'looked funny' in their direction.
Ifan: Burn that shirt immediately.
Gooner: Arsenal fans know f*ck all about real football - you've never suffered in any way: never experienced relegation, near bankruptcy, ground closure, Darren Wood - any of those things sent to try the faith of the real supporter. You're plastics. Football for you is easy, it's the soft option, there's no pain except losing the odd cup final or drawing with Spurs. I mean, who wrote your only original song, 'Good Old Arsenal'? Jimmy F*cking Hill, that's who.
So don't come on here lecturing us about real history and real football - you're just a bunch of glory-hunting south London pikeys and you always will be.
Terrible...
Been at work and still feel like sh@t total sh@t
Please do forgive my language...
The team was woeful, awful and inexistant..WHAT WAS THAT?
The Coach was outfoxed outplanned - HEY THEY WERE BEATEN 5 -1 BY LOSERPOOL SO WE CAN PULL THIS OFF....TOTAL MAYHEM...
This loss even hurts more than the boro loss...Funny?
IFAN DO BURN THAT SHIRT!!!!
If you take the actual moments, we were really sh*t.
1) The goal. Woeful defending. Terry marked some other f*cker, Huth mispositioned himself initially and then failed to make an interception, and Ferreira should have been marking Boa Morte. And what the f*ck what the line? Three Chelsea players positioned themselves in a line right in front of a Fulham player. Ok, offside trap, but good ol' Ferreira was waaay behind. So we have a gap only an idiot wouldn't have used. If they are using zonal marking, they are sh*t. If they are using man marking, it's even more sh*t. We CANNOT make mistakes like that. It's aweful. Believe me, I am a defender, I know they made mistakes.
2) The John moment. Well, any comments needed? :) I was actually stunned to see such defending. Was that John Terry or it was all a hoax?! Because Terry can't defend like that. Kudos to Cech - the only decent player we have had lately.
why does JM think Joe Cole is a liability while Carvalho isnt? I think JC has the ability to create some magic, esp. during crappy games like this.. is it the biasness that Carvalho is from Porto?
Peter that is the biggest load of non-historical bullshit I have ever heard in my life. You silly man go away and study football history, or at least retort with some facts.
This is incredible...
This is what the ref has to say about the influence received from the Fulham players...
Quoting his comments on BBC
"Pressure is when you've got a soldier walking down a street in Iraq likely to be killed at any moment by a bomb or a bullet - we are talking about a game of football here," Hackett said.
"In the Premiership there is plenty of protection around, Mike doesn't feel the pressure. If he was under pressure at this stage he wouldn't be there."
Are we honestly playing in a "FAIR" league? The standards need to be clear...
Does the act of players surrounding the ref amount to pressure?
Touched a nerve have I Gooner? If you want to deny your own club's history go ahead, but it won't be me who'll be displaying footballing ignorance. As an Arsenal fan, you've never been tested; you have no idea what Chelsea fans have been through.
Take the blinkers off.....
Fulham deserved to win this match. There was nothing wrong with Morinho's changes, in my view. Cole and SWP were dreadful and the inclusion of Duff gave more attack. Crossley made a terrific hand save on Damo. Gallas's red card was more than deserved. Could've broke the player's leg with that stamp. The goal was deliberate handball from Drogba - and whether the ref and linesman saw it or not is immaterial - the call was right, and what about Terry's scything in the penalty box in the first half. Let's get real, here, a deserved loss and Morinho's lack of disgnity in defeat is very unflattering to Chelsea's image. You have a great team there but the behaviour in defeat is quite unplatable. JM's still didn't admit Barca were the better team (citing the red card to del Horno as the culprit) when you were completely outclassed over two legs. Gallas's goal saved you from a draw with Spurs. The wheels are wobbly. You will probably win the title - given the competition on the run in but a little humility would go a long way. Sure, champions will always be hated, but you are being hated for all the wrong reasons. Lack of class and it starts from your manager. Over the weekend in Italy, there was a remarkable scene where a player, after deliberately handling a goal (unseen by officials) gave the ball and the goal back. Real champions don't need undeserved handled goals. A little class, please.
Is that the lack of dignity in which Mourinho said Fulham deserved to win and he was pleased for Chris Coleman cos he thinks he's a great manager? Or are you just another tabloid-reading twat who doesn't know what he's talking about? Please, spare us your fascinating insights in future.
to Peter (I'll spare you the namecalling)
Morinho's exact quote was 'we did not deserve to lose'. Sure he praised Coleman but he never admitted to deserving defeat. Get your facts straight. and your name calling just lowers you to your coach's standards. Why didn't you address any of my other points - Gallas leg-stamping, the handball, Terry's rash penalty box challenge, Barca's domination in the Champs - I take it you don't have an answer for those points. Open your eyes. I have been very complimentary to you team when they played well but your coach is the worst loser on the planet. Yes there is dignity in accepting defeat and you and your coach do not understand that.
"We didn't play well in the first half," Mourinho stated. "We were very poor in the pace of our game and Joe and Shaun did not have a happy game. I can say that because of the first half we deserved to lose, from the second half we deserved to win. Fulham fought very hard. I'm in the middle of being unhappy but I can feel happy for Chris."
Wow! How undignified! Colour me classless!
Are you similarly appalled when Rijkaard, Benitez and Wenger refuse to bow and scrape after they've been beaten by Chelsea? When Barca start a ruck on the pitch and accuse our stewards of racism? When Benitez goes on about Robben, or Wenger about Essien and the linesmen? When they do anything other than give Chelsea credit? And how do you think Ferguson would react if, five minutes after they'd been knocked out of the Champions League, he was asked whether the best team had won? Any reporter stupid enough to ask such a question would be lucky to get out the ground alive.
Mourinho isn't perfect, but he's held to a higher standard than any of his rivals and that's simply hypocritical. That's why you get short shrift when you come on here rehashing the unimaginative accusations you've read in the tabloids, when you fail to do any thinking for yourself. Come back when you've got something interesting or original to say.
mr originality, eh
Peter, enough of the name calling. It just lowers your class. You still didn't address any of the salient points I made about the game, so I have to say you are the one lacking originality - but only because you brought it up. Take the blinkers off - there's a whole, real world out there beyond your abstract biases. Love you team but see it for what it is - in the proper light. Forget about the behaviour of others, like Wenger or Fergie. We can lay into them for what they are but don't lose track of what's in front of you. I don't read the tabloids, by the way so maybe I just have a tabloid mind - but you know, - the tabloids aren't always wrong. They just like to do more highlighting than papers like the Times. Deal with Morinho's actual quotes. Sure you picked the ones you liked out but it is well known that he never admitted to defeat, only the loss 3-0 to Borough has he formally admitted to being the inferior team. He didn't accept the Old Trafford defeat, not the penalty loss to Charlton in the League Cup, nor the loss to Barca at the Bridge, blaming that one on Del Horno. I have accepted your quote choices as a kind of humility - but it's what he leaves out that is lacking in class. Save the name calling - doesn't get us anywhere.
Blaise, you really are a tedious, obsessive little runt. Mourinho doesn't always admit his team deserves to lose. Big deal. It isn't his job to. You're boring. Bugger off.
response to gooner you dickhead typical sad arsehole fan you big fanny it must really kill you to see the great chelsea breaking your cosy little world apart get used to it knob brain even if jose did leave which is about as like ly as you scumbags filling your ground he would be replaced by some one with the talent to secure more success and don t go on about history because thats precisely what it is history

I just cant get why you swapped tiago for essien. pay in excess of thirty million and get stuck with someone who scores one goal a season and cant drible past his own shadow
excuse my language and please do put this up, that was f*cking shit... heres why and i probably am speaking for some other fans too.
1. why did JM make those crazy subs?? from that moment, i thought something was up.did nothing for us.
2. how can we have somewhere nearing 20 corners and i cant remember anything comin from one of them.
3. why was the referee the shitest thing ever? he gave into that pier pressure their asshole players wanted to give, theres no1 that can tell me the linesman saw that handball.
4. gallas is a god that thumbs thing he did made me smile, but why was he sent off? 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other.
5. the chances we did have were abousloutly wasted.
6. as a fan i wish come1 would have lumped boa morte. he is a twat.
bare in mind i am really pissed off right now, still tryin to figure out wtf all the players were doing from the first whistle, i wanna know what happened tot he chelsea that battered teams like fulham for fun, i cant recall this season a quality performance in the prem that i can say yeah we battered them good and proper, absolute crap today lads, gutted
