Club captain John Terry has been named as this year's Professional Footballers' Association Players' Player of the Year at an award ceremony and dinner at the Grosvenor House hotel, London.
He narrowly beat vice club captain Frank Lampard, who was voted into second place for the second successive year after losing out to Thierry Henry in 2004.
Terry has the honour of becoming the first Chelsea player to win the PFA honour. The last Blues player to pick up a major award was Gianfranco Zola when he collected the Footballer of the Year title in 1997.
Terry and Lampard are expected to do battle for the Footballer of the Year award next month.
