Mateja Kezman has rejected a move to Benfica. "I have a great respect for [Benfica manager] Ronald Koeman and Benfica, but the Portuguese league and Benfica are not, at this moment, options for me," he told A Bola.
I'm with you on this one, GJ. I'd be happy to see Kezman given one more season in which to prove himself - but surely he'll need more playing time to do so?
I watched a video of some of the goals he scored for PSV again recently, and it impressed me as much as the first time I saw it (I'll send you a download URI if you like - it's a .wmv file).
A fellow Blues fan who viewed the video came to the conclusion that it's the formation we play that hinders Kezman's goal scoring ability - and I must say on seeing the video again that I concur with him. The 4-3-3 loan striker formation preferred by Jose doesn't suit his playing style; whereas the 4-4-2 at PSV seemed to suit him perfectly (aided by Rommedahl's wing play).
But somehow I feel Kezman's played his last match for us. A shame. He's sure to haunt us if he stays in the Premiership!

:D ah ah ah
Benfica as Gomes and Mantorras (and more), and kezman would not play unless those 2 were injuried. I dont think Kezman is good enough to play in the top teams of the portuguese league.
Salaries are to low, for him, that is true he receives a fortune at chelsea, its a better option for him to go to other clubs that pay better.
I have been very critical of Kezman, but taking on board the webmasters comments to me previously he has scored 105 goals in 122 games for PSV. You don't fluke that many! Granted he has looked like Bambi on Ice at times this season, but surely it would benefit us more by loaning him out for a full season to a club where he can get a decent run in the team to gain the necessary experience of the PL pace. As crap as he has appeared I would think he deserves at least one more season to prove his worth. GJ
