Mutu loaned? Kezman banned? Don't count on it

Friday, 06 August 04, 03:54 AM · Comments (13)

Yesterday the media was full of stories linking Adrian Mutu with a loan move to Juventus after his agent declared it was 'ninety-nine percent for sure that Mutu will sign a contract with Juventus in a matter of days'.

Today the Times says Roman Abramovich has expressed concern at the prospect of Chelsea loaning out yet another expensive failure instead favouring a permanent deal; and the Guardian reckons Mutu is to leave Stamford Bridge in a unique deal which will see him playing on loan at Juventus, with the Italian club having an option to buy fifty percent of the player next summer for £6.6m.

But none of the above is true according to the club, who published a statement denying any deal had been done

Meanwhile the bastion of English football, the much respected and honourable Football Association":http://www.thefa.com/, issued a "statement confirming that Mateja Kezman will serve a three-match suspension starting from August 17 following his sending off against Roma during the pre-season tour of the US.

However, the official club website states that Chelsea feel Kezman already served his ban in accordance with FIFA Article 39 when he was suspended for the following game against AC Milan.

h3. Mutu loan deal collapses • Update

Chelsea has been unable to agree a deal with Juventus for the loan of Adrian Mutu and he will be reporting tomorrow for treatment on his groin strain.

News stories yesterday that Adrian's loan move was 99.9 percent sure of going through were not right.

Not the best way to enamour yourself to the fans.

I think we have to ask ourselves why Mutu (Crespo & Veron) want to leave a club like Chelsea. A club who reached the Champions league semi final last year and looks to have a great chance to win the league this year. Is it because they believe they are not good enough? Even if JM told Mutu that he was 4th choice I believe Mutu should stay and prove Jm wrong, I’m sure thats what the manager is looking for.
I said before on this site I believe Chelsea should not loan any other players out to other clubs (apart from youngsters to gain experience). If these players come to our club and don’t want to fight for a place in the team leave them to rot in the reserves rather than help our rivals to get a better team.

I will be gutted if Muto goes. I am sure we still have the best of him to come. I wasnt gutted when Crespo left because he was all about himself. In my eyes, players like Drogba (not so much Kezman) still have a hell of a lot to prove to the fans and the club.

I will also be gutted if Mutu goes he is a great player who had a rough season and I definitly think he is still a big part of the team. I hope he stays and fights for his place because he can prove JM wrong and win a starting place he is an amazing football player who can score goals.

Mourinho should not let Mutu go. It would be a huge mistake because Kezman and Drogba are new to the Premiership and I’m sure they are going to get injured because of the many matches to play. Moreover, we should remember that Mutu was better than the two of them one year ago, so it is possible that they don’t adapt and prove to be real failures. So it would be very unwise to rely only on one striker (Gudjohnsen). I also think that Mutu is the best striker of the 4 and a very good team player. I really hope that Mutu stays.

I disagree with all of the above ! Mutu’s attitude is appalling and has been that way since about Christmas time last season. If he wants to leave I’ll happily offer him a lift to Turin myself.

One thing Mutu is not is a team player, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen him lose the ball because he wants to beat everyone himself. Undoubtedly he has talent, equally undoubted is that he lacks any kind of mental strength. He’s a cry baby to be honest and the sooner we ship him out the better.

Has any performance he has put in since December warranted him being any more than fourth choice striker ? Not that I’ve seen, if he had any spirit at all he’d stay and fight for a starting place. As it is he has already given interviews to the Italian media about how much he wants to play for Juventus. If he thinks Mourinho is tough wait till he has to deal with Capello.

The deal just fell through according to the newspapers so I guess Mutu will be loaned to Leicester/Portsmouth/Birmingham and the likes. Keeping a 16mil. player in his prime, at the end of the bench it’s plain stupid.

I’m pissed. I hope he won’t play 1 game for Chelsea this season. Peter Keyon and his ego can go…

Man I was so happy he was going to Juve. This sucks so bad!

What seemed like a certain deal now looks like it’s far from being over as Chelsea have officially denied that an agreement has been reached with Juventus. Chealsea just announced that Mutu will stay and he’ll report for training tomorrow!

I’m a little inebriated too, Alex, hence the lack of timely updates.

I think Mutu has just made the biggest mistake of his Chelsea career. He’s gone from being reasonably popular with the fans to number one villian in a matter of hours. Hopefully he’ll now go on to score a hatful of goals in the limited number of games he’s likely to get!

I totally agree with Blingo. I was really happy to see the back of Mutu. As I mentioned before, we have more than enough attacking options in Cole, Duff and Robben (esp. when we play 4-3-3 or 4-4-1-1) so 3 strikers would be ok.

look at it this way, we can afford to keep him, and we don’t have to use him. if he is still a cry baby the end of the coming season, we’ll gladly have forsell back, and send mutu back to italy. but he has potential, just a bit hard to motivate and hard to work with. he started the season well, and once he lost confidence, he never regained it, because he never had a good run in the side after it.

so in my opinion, since i’d rather have forsell back next season, i’d rather keep mutu this season, and sell him the next.

if we loaned mutu out, we would buy another good striker, and players like forsell will never come back to chelsea… which is something we don’t want.

I’ve just read Mutu’s comments on the skysports web page and it’s exactly what I wanted him to say. Lets just hope he means it.
I went to see the Zola game yesterday and was impressed by Ferreira (a player I had previously not been too impressed with). He was quick in the tackle, had good positional sense and made some good forward runs with excellent crossing ability. Other players to impress were Parker, Carvalho, Gallas and the best player on the pitch was John Terry. He had their no.9 in his pocket the entire game.
We played a solid 4 4 2 with Drogba causing the opposition all sorts of problems in the air.
Players missing were Mutu, Cole, Smertin, Bridge and the two injured players Robben and Tiago.
Still the most skillful player on the pitch was that little genius Zola. I am just so proud to have had the chance to see him play for Chelsea over the years.
