New Chelsea FC sponsor

Siemens will be the new sponsor of Chelsea Football Club, according to Marketing Magazine (You need to be a subscriber to Marketing Magazine to read the online version of the article. We haven't read it. If anyone has any further news or has read the article, then please leave your comments below. Thanks. -- Ed.)

h3. Siemens Mobile to sponsor Chelsea FC · Update

Thanks to RXM we have a transcript of the article.

??Siemens mobile is primed to become the new sponsor of CFC, with a multi-million pound deal set to be signed in the next few weeks.??

??Marketing has learned that Chelsea business affairs director Paul Smith has held extensive negotiations with the mobile brand about replacing Emirates to become its shirt sponsor for three years from the end of the season with an option to extend.??

??The football club was seeking a minimum of £6m a year -- an increase of £2m on its deal with Emirates -- to reflect its new found celebrity status and the Chelsea brands global ambitions. It is understood that the deal with Siemens will be in excess of £6m a year but falls short of the £100m 15-year combined stadium rights and sponsorship deal that rival club Arsenal has negotiated with Emirates.??

??Chelsea has denied that a deal has been completed with a spokesman insisting final stage negotiations are ongoing with 'several global blue chip companies'. However, sources have said that an agreement is imminent.??

??Siemens sponsors Spanish side Real Madrid, but its deal expires at the end of this season and it has been suggested that it will not re-sign.??

Have Siemens pulled out of Real Madrid then? Ho, ho, ho. Serious question actually, don’t they currently sponsor Madrid?

Yes Siemens is the current sponsor for Real. Will they pull out of Real Madrid? I doubt it.

Perhaps Siemens have been persuaded that we are about to takeover from Real Madrid as the “biggest club in footballing history”? ... so they want to corner the market?

It would have been nice to have a bigname brand as yet unused in football.

Yeah… Siemens do sponsor Real Madrid. What truth there is to this article is unclear. Is Marketing Magazine a reputable publication?

If Arsenal are known as Airline FC for the foreseeable future, what on earth are we going to be labelled as running around with Siemens on our shirt?! ;-)

It is not appropriate to have a sponsor that already sponsors another team. I know Real Madrid wear Siemens as do other clubs. I am not in favour also what is it with telecommunications companies, O2, Vodafone & Siemens would sponsor 3 biggest clubs in country. what about Sony/Coca-Cola/Ferrari/nike?
Also anyone know anything as to whether we are going to have nike kit next season, if so maybe we should go for nike to sponsor us as well! would look simple and like we mean business!

This is apparently what the article says (although I have not been able to verify it independently):

High profile but not Earth shattering! One up on Madrid though can’t be bad.
I’ll take any stadium sponsor that can work out how to get another 5000 seats in!

If they switch from umbro making the kits I would rather see adidas make them over Nike.

What’s all the fuss about? Don’t be sad guys! This is not news. We don’t need the money. This is anorak territory…

I much rather talk about our prospects versus Newcastle on Sat, whether we or MANure will play a first team in Jan, or which Mourinho signings have been good, bad or ugly..

I’m surprised because I work for the “red” mobile phone company and the word at our place is that the sponsors were likely to be Orange, especially in light of the new Orange/Chelsea mobile deal they’ve been pushing. I’ll dig around, but either way it won’t be a bad deal. I don’t care who the kit makers are but I like Umbro because of the current reversible shirt for the first team. Perhaps Master Bates made an error letting this slip through with his track record of striping the fans. GJ

Paperboy—I’m an obsessive Chelsea FC anorak… facts like the club’s new sponsor matter. ;-) Feel free to submit some words about Newcastle, Manure, Mourinho’s transfers etc., etc.

Hopefully I’ll have our Planet Chelsea forums up and running by the new year—they’ll allow you to discuss all aspects of CFC to your heart’s content. If anybody has ideas for the forums, let me know via the contact form.

I still prefer Umbro to some american brand like Nike. Adidas wouldn’t be too bad but an English team like us should wear a English brand like Umbro. Plus their kits are much much better than the Nike kits that look exactly the same for every club except for the colour. And no Budweiser or Microsoft pls. I’m fine with Siemens, and Chelsea is going for a comsumer brand anyway.

All in all, a good deal and 6m a year ain’t too shabby. Arse is getting 6.67m a year for both shirt and stadium sponsor.

I don’t necessarily think it’s one up on Real Madrid. I remember not too long ago when NTL sponsored both Rangers and Celtic at the same time.

From LINK
Siemens Mobile is proud to partner Chelsea FC, one of the Premiership’s most cosmopolitan teams.

At the start of the 2002-03 season, Siemens and Chelsea launched a stylish pre-pay club-branded mobile phone on the first ever club-branded mobile network – complete with ringtones, screensavers and hotkeys to Chelsea’s ticket line and megastore.

Siemens also supports several other high-profile European football teams, including Real Madrid (Spain), Bayern Munich (Germany), Juventus (Italy), Bordeaux (France) and Olympiakos (Greece).

I think that we should be made by a bigger brand personally i think we should let Adidas make the Chelsea shirts as if we are starting new with new sponser and badge we should have a new shirt make as well and Adidas make Real Madrid and Newcastle shirts and they both look great. they are by far a better make then umbro and nike!!

we’ve always had dodgy sponsors or dodgy kits .. Autoglass hardly the most exciting brand. Coors (not bad but Stella would have been better!) Commodore (opp’s that didn’t work out very well for them)
and then there’s the Arabs

From a Business perspective this is a genius switch by Kenyon .. I mean who in their right mind will now want to walk around in an Emirates kit with that being so unsubtly linked to the team formerly from Woolwich. Next seasons kit sales will be through the roof (if we had one)

Siemens are a solid firm, and they are smart if they invest in a team like Chelsea. Real is falling apart, and the blues are the next rulers in football the comming years.

i wouldent pick Siemens Mobile myself , i would rather see Sony as a main sponsor.. (not based on the money deal, just because i like the Sony emblem alot better than boring Siemens)...

but this decission is made way over our heads, and it’s ALOT of money they talk about.. exhited to see how the new kit will look, with new sponsor and new chelsea emblem..

It would be cool if one of the major computer companies like Microsoft, Dell, Apple etc. sponsors the Chelsea shirt. We hardly see any Computer sponsors on football. Plus, there’s too many mobile/telecommunication sponsors now.!

Chelsea are not going to be sponsored by Siemens, Vodafone or any company. The new sponsorship deal is with phone network ‘Orange.’ When Chelsea’s next game is broadcasted you will see Orange advertisemnts boards Scattered all round the pitch.

Well I read that you are not going to have a kit sponsor due to the fact that you don’t need one, and also the fans dont want the sponsor, and that is the same reason why the badge was changed, because of the fans.

i now for a fact the new sponsor is orange new kit is nike whats so bad about that they make cool kits we should get a new unique style as we are the biggest new signing with nike if any one has got any beef with the new sponsor or kit maker it sholud be the fact that chelsea dont need the money and they could make there own kit like pompy and saints not as if there isnt anough funding thre no sponsor at all looks best or a small emblem on the sleeve

Let’s hope it’s Orange. Rumours have been circulating about them here and there (and at Orange, I am told).

I could just tolerate Nike if we don’t have a naff/US company on Chelsea shirts. Umbro would be more appropriate.

Ferrari, Porsche, Sony, Microsoft? Are you guys kidding? companies like that will never sponsor a football team because they have no need to. They don't need X number of million people to see their name in lights, it's already there. They will partner clubs as they already have, to pull in a few more deals from people wanting their things to be affiliated with the club, but no more.
