Premiership: Blackburn Rovers v. Chelsea

Sunday, 27 August 06, 12:52 PM · Comments (10)

After Wednesday's below par performance against Middlesbrough, Jose Mourinho is expecting the players to show an improved attitude at Ewood Park later today.

"We were just too passive [at the Riverside], reacting just to the score. The point is we know why we were champions twice and it was not with this attitude, that is for sure," he said.

Arjen Robben, who withdrew during the warm-up at Boro with a tight calf muscle, is expected to return to the sqaud, as is Michael Ballack, missing since picking up a hip injury during the defeat to Liverpool in the Community Shield. Joe Cole and Petr Cech are still out.

Blackburn secured their place in this season's UEFA Cup when they won this corresponding fixture in May, but haven't enjoyed the best start to the new Premiership campaign, losing 3-0 at Fratton Park on the opening day then drawing their first home game against Everton in midweek.

An emphatic win is all that can be accepted today. The loss against Middlesbrough brought doubts in many of us, and United are already six points ahead. We may only be three games into the season, but United have shown their intentions and we absolutely cannot allow ourselves to slip.

Chris - I'd be happy with a win of any kind! Rovers are tough to beat at Ewood Park, so a 1-0 win and three points would suit me fine.

So long as we keep up with the Mancs, I don't mind much either, but you know what the worriers are like! ;)

Great game today. although it was still scrapy, the boys dug in and fought very very well. Foremost in my mind, is the fact that Cech is BACK and back for good. my only plea is that CUDICINI should note be brought back. he fails to inspire, exhumes no confidence which Cech does.

Our game is yet to flow as we lose balls easily and i know that will come back with time as i believe we have the individual potentials and once we get back into our normal frame of mentality, any team can be crushed.

Be that as it may, it is a relief that the team is back on track and back for good. Jimmy, you are next.....bring it on!

Thought the game was good, a little uninspiring at times but nevertheless we got the points. My only though was that Kalou was awful, he keeps losing the ball, never showing any magic. I know that hes a replacment long term, but I cant help but think things should be shuffled allowing SWP to play instead. As soon as Drogba came on the entire game changed not including his goal!

I am really pleased with the formation Morinho used today against Rovers. We just need to wait some weeks for the team to hit top gears. It is good as we have Shevy upfront suppoted by Kalou , it would have been better if Robben or Joe Cole is fit to be there to support Shevy and there will be a good run from either of them that quickly link up with Shevy upfront. Though, they have not played very well in the last 3 matches but with time it is gonna be good .

Drogba was great when he came on. Bullish and detemined. I really think he and Shev will hit it off this season. Can't believe Hughes is claiming JT dived for the pen. He should be ashamed - not sure even Jose would have tried that one!

im not liking the diamond type midfield very much...its not leavin much space for our wingers to be included. back to the 4-3-3 we played in previous campaigns with essien or makelele playing defensive position and lamps and ballack free to attack. also leaves room for cole and robben to support sheva!

nice to get back on track with a win even if the football wasnt exactly high quality stuff!
