A great deal of tosh has been uttered, written, printed and blogged in the build-up to this game.
You could understand the hype if it was the last game of the season, a title decider like 1989's Liverpool versus Arsenal clash at Anfield, but this is a game in late November, after which there is another 24 to play, and 72 points to play for.
Anybody who believes the result will decide which team lifts the Premiership trophy in May is living in cloud cuckoo land.
Jose Mourinho's only loss to Manchester United as manager of both Porto and Chelsea came in this fixture last season when a flukey first half Darren Fletcher header won the game for Alex Ferguson's side. The Blues hammered United for the majority of the second half but couldn't find the net.
Mourinho's record against the Red Devils stands at 5 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat.
In team news, both Didier Drogba and Michael Ballack have recovered from knocks picked up in Wednesday's Champions League defeat to Werder Bremen, while Ricardo Carvalho has also recovered from an ankle injury that ruled him out of the trip to Germany. Frank Lampard will return after missing the midweek game through suspension; he needs one goal to become Chelsea's highest scoring midfield player of all-time.
United have no fresh injury worries. Rio Ferdinand had been a doubt after picking up a minor foot injury in Tuesday's Champions League defeat at Celtic, but he has been passed fit and will take his place in what could be an unchanged line-up.
The general consensus seems to be that United will win, one particularly dislikeable Guardian journalist going so far as to say, "Manchester United are going to give [Chelsea] a beating they won't forget in a hurry." We'll see Mr. Glendenning.
Chelsea's record at Old Trafford in the Premiership is good: 4 wins, 6 draws and 4 loses.
Initially i taught a draw wasn;t good, but i kind of prefer it now as it was at old trafford. quite a fair result but i would like us to create more chances with our domination in the second half. Man u was jittery and we shld have finished them. i still have my misgivings about ballack, as he's got little or no drive in the midfield, and i believe he can do more. Essien was invinscible until he came to right back! Lampard still the man anyday! QED.
A very good result at Old Trafford. And that was a good tactical changes by JM taken off Geremi and replaced him with Robben for more attacking options and it really changed the game. With the couple of hard games coming on this December , we should be able to go to the top by winning all our matches . I am so confident that Manutd will sure lose point very soon either at Middle'sborogh or Man City. All we just need to do is win all our matches till January and see where we are by then. BAllack is not at his best yet but i have a strong belief in him and Shevy so we should hopeful they will come good to the end of the season. Ashely Cole is back to his best form and more to come from him.
Up Blues forever
A quick update: I'll post about yesterday's game later today. Bit busy and hungover at the moment.
1-1 with the scum is fine by me, i feel they would be more disappointed then we are. like Jose said, 3 points is nothing, its a weekender(at bernies?!?!?!)
anyway, there is all this talk of video technology and that. i wonder what everyone thinks of the aussie rules football style of doing things where you can be reported(booked) after the game. the umpires watch the game.
obviously this wouldn'y change the reult in the event of a bad decision but what i feel it would do it stop players from diving etc etc.. if you know youre going to get a yellow post game for a dive, then im sure you''ll stop pretty quick smart.
just an idea, would love to know what you all think

I don't see anything wrong with the use of technology within the game. It works pretty effectively in rugby without too much disruption and stoppages.
If you think about how much time is wasted on players hounding the referee after a dubious decision, it could be dealt with fairly quickly by a guy upstairs.
What would be a good idea during games, and it has been talked about, is only the captian approaches and speaks to the referee.
Perhaps also a slightly different slant on the use of the technology would be for each team captain to be allowed the use of two calls throughout the game on the possible overturning of a decision. At least that way the calls should be used wisely, and it might stop some the nonsense that goes on now.
