The Observer, Amy Lawrence: "Chelsea's ruthless pursuit of Manchester United continued here, which is not surprising considering the hard facts: their winning sequence in the Premiership since they last conceded any ground (or even a goal for that matter ) - two-and-a-half months ago at Anfield - is daunting for any opponent."
Sunday Telegraph, Patrick Barclay: ""Sometimes we are guilty,'' said Mourinho of [Ricardo Carvalho], whom he brought with him from Porto in 2004 at a cost of nearly £20 million, "of always talking about the same players. But Ricardo has been a pillar for us this season. More than a pillar.'' Indeed. As well as defending with class and a courage exemplified by block tackles and kneeling headers, Carvalho has been an important creative influence, notably during the run of eight consecutive Premiership wins, all without the concession of a goal, that have prevented Manchester United from breaking completely clear of the club whose title they seem certain eventually to retrieve."
Independent on Sunday, Nick Townsend: "Other than a somewhat nervous final 10 minutes, Ricardo Carvalho's 52nd-minute strike always appeared liable to yield the hosts the victory they required to maintain their pursuit of Ferguson's side. It was a triumph that acquired even greater significance with United's subsequent defeat by Pompey reducing the deficit to three points."
Sunday Times, Joe Lovejoy: "For those of a statistical bent, Chelsea are now unbeaten in their last 60 Premiership matches at home and are fast approaching the record, which is 63, set by Liverpool between 1978 and 1981. Petr Cech has kept eight successive clean sheets in the league, and Chelsea have won all eight games, which supports the theory that, but for the injury that kept the world’s best goalkeeper out of action for so long, the table could have a very different look."
Mail on Sunday, Patrick Collins: "Spurs fans informed Mourinho that he would be "Sacked In The Summer", while the Chelsea fans trilled tributes to the Seville police for their energetic engagement with the Spurs followers."
John Obi Mikel, or whatever order his name should be in, take a bow and collect your bouquet. You look like you’ve played the game at this level for years and why the press aren’t creaming their collective pants over you is a mystery to me. He showed great composure, great passing, great support, and great ability in the air and a real rock in midfield. The boy has everything. Pure gold as a rather famous Portuguese manager described him before signing him to our club!
What can I say? Normal service is resumed might be very apt. We lost our great record against Spurs earlier this season when we were arguably the better team but this was sweet revenge for that, despite our mauling them in the FA Cup replay. There are certain teams over whom victory tastes all the sweeter and Spurs are definitely one of them.
I write this on the back of a phone call telling me that Pompey have beaten Manchester United. Well, maybe there is something in all the lunar/moon gobbledygook written in the comments pages of the Watford review. Is it a wobble? I hope so, but I still think Alex Ferguson's experience will guide them home. But if we do win the League I will gladly hold up my hands as a doubter and say that I was wrong and then claim that I never, ever thought we would lose the League. That’s the beauty of being a true fan. My hypocrisy knows no bounds. Well done Pompey. Now let's see who blinks first.
Yes Clive, hats of to the Shed Upper. They should have got a mention and it's nice for us in the MHL to have a bit of competition. It would be great to see the West an East Stands lead the line for once but perhaps something like that is even more "from the Moon".
It is Championship form but maybe just too late. United will be hurting over yesterday but I would rather their run in than ours. Still it's keeping the season alive.
Shame about The Arse. I went to Arseblog and wound them up. Blimey even the Arseblogger himself threw his toys from the pram. Which feels good.
Just want to share a wonderful piece on R.C. and pay some due tribute to his dedication and hard work. LINK
Tony Kind of disappointed that you ended with that line... I would have loved to say I told you so in my native language...
The Mancs are definately on the wane and I have known it al through... We do rely on Drogs but not as much as the Mancs are relying on Ronaldo... The rest of the team is average (and that is a complement) You can not have the likes of Carrick, O'shea etc etc on your first team and think you are champions material...sorry but it just does not cut the grade for me... We are going to lift the cup... so help us GOD!
Come on Chelsea Come on Chelsea Come on Chelsea...
Safe words Tony Safe words...
I know I will celebrate not from relief rather from belief... There is no better way to celebrate than that way...It does not hurt to have a little faith in what you believe in...
I believe in the blue lion that stands next to my heart...
I believe in TSO
I believe in Roman
I believe in the Boys that put their bodies minds and souls out on the turf every mathc day...
I believe in being the fan a true blue fan...dedicated to remain unshaken and pray for Chelsea...
I believ that the Premier League will reside at the Bridge for a record 3rd time...
I believe we will beat Valencia to night...
I believe we will take the FA Cup...
So help us GOD!
To Anyone on this site,
I will like to know where any chelseafc Websites I can view the pictures of Matches played and Training Pictures. I will be so glad to see one.
Up Blues
Good to see United struggling with a few injuries at just the wrong time - people are beginning to realise that this has been the only difference between us this season. Vidic is so crucial, perhaps more than Ronaldo, and all this talk of United having a stronger is squad is shown up for the flimflam it is - when key players are out, you suffer, no matter how many John O'Sheas you have in reserve.
Tonight we have to score no matter and hopefully more than one time.
Come on Chels!!! Come on Chels!!!!
It's simple: if we score two tonight, we're through. There is no chance that Valencia will score three past us with Cech, Terry, Percy et al.
So even if we concede the first goal, don't fear. It makes absolutely no difference. How likely is a 1-0 win anyway?
Let's see a good attacking game where we get those two goals ASAP. After this season, I've got no nails left to bite!
Come on Chelsea!!! Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!Come on Chelsea!!!
1-0, Morientes. We're screwed :( Oh my god, I won't survive our knockout. We need a miracle.
Where is our creativity??!! We do not create anything special. We can not play such a direct football and expect to win ANYTHING!!!!
1-0 valencia at half time!!
I hope your right Chris cause I am cacking myself right now.
And ManUre 4-0 up at half time!! What is going on!!
Come On Chelsea and bring on J.Cole to work some magic!!
I have Faith ....
MU 4-0 Roma... Damn, oh damn, I'm at a total loss of words. For the love of god, why can't we play like that at Stamford Bridge? Of course Valencia has a bit more quality than Roma, but what the hell, Roma ain't a bad team too.
MU tore them apart in the first-half already.
Our beloved Boys in Blue have the challenge of tрушк lifetime in driving all the fans to a nervous breakdown.
The first half we looked like Fulham. I hope the second half we play some football, otherwise we can forget about CL.
COME ON CHELSEA!!!!
I had Faith in the boys and it paid off again!!
1-2 to the Blues - well done Essien - great goal!!
We played well tonight - the stats showed we totally dominated and deserved to win!!
I love you Chelsea!!!
We were stronger in the second half. Yet one more time Chelsea stronger in the second half. Incredible goal by Essien, what a goal!!! Come on Chelsea !!!!!!!
first off, let me say i curse american television producers of all types for having ManU vs. Roma on instead of Chelsea vs. Valencia....That said, the pressure of watching would have killed me since I went nuts off something as lame as the Guardian's minute by minute...Still waiting for someone to post the goals on youtube...Go Chelsea! The Quadruple remains alive!
ps. Also f*ck ManU; their performance made me want to cry since they were so dominating they made their match a joke and I have to admit I was rooting for their elimination....As I'm not English, I dont have to fall for that whole isnt it great for english football to have more teams in semis crap the media is pulling...
What an incredible goal by Essien...superb frm tight angle...but its a shame essien n J. cole wont be playing the next match.....but i believe we have enough firepower to upset liverpool (i believe they will easily get pass PSV). When we welcome liverpool to Stamford Bridge, God help liverpool, i want another 4-0 demolition...
Common chelsea you can do it....
My bad..its only essien that wont be playing next match..joe cole will be there ...sorry for tht

As the article states, this really is a massive week for the club. Personally, I do think we can catch the Mancs, and have done so for a while ( yes.... I know that is easy to say now!) because they are not the massive force that the ever - praising pundits would have you believe.
United's so called easier run in,has now become a lot harder because the games against Man City and Wet Spam at the end of the season could now be very important for the relegation fodder.
I'm beginning to think that Jose is not only ' a very naughty boy', but also the 'Messiah' as well...... His prophetic comments about '3 points from the Moon' (as first deciphered here on the Chelseblog) seem almost blindingly obvious now! Well, maybe I'm getting just a little carried away.
Great games today from Carvalho, Mikel, and even Ferreira.... SWP ,in my opinion, looks far more effective when he plays in behind the strikers, rather than leaving him out on the wing, but since we already have 5 centre midfielders already crammed into our starting eleven, I doubt if he will remain there for long.
Can we really keep winning in all 4 comps for another month? Now that really would be a bit of 'History' worth talking about.
Yes a wonderful Easter afternoon spent at the sunny Bridge, and even better with the result at Portsmouth later on.
The result was all so important and well earned, and we should have scored more than our habitual "One".
On saying that, this is the buisness end of the season and 3 points are welcome with any scoreline.
Another interesting point to note this is 8 "clean sheets" and straight wins since the Liverpool defeat. This is how we usually start the season and leave teams in our wake, could this be Championship winning form?, lets hope it is.
And Tony I thought The Shed Upper led the line superbly in the singing stakes as well today, and judging on how hoarse my voice is this morning might of just sneaked a 1-0 win over the MH ;)
