The Times, Matt Hughes: "Mourinho rested Ashley Cole, Michael Essien and Claude Makelele and was fortunate to keep an unbeaten home league record stretching back to FC Porto’s defeat by Beira Mar five years ago. In doing so, Chelsea equalled Liverpool’s record of 63 top-flight matches at home without defeat, although a more telling statistic is the fact that Mourinho’s team have ended the season with five successive Premiership draws, their worst run of his reign. The lap of honour was muted, although Mourinho vowed to return next season."
The Independent, Jason Burt: "That parade was made all the more downbeat by the walking wounded who took part in it. Behind Mourinho and his children hobbled an array of players - Michael Ballack, Ricardo Carvalho, Arjen Robben, Andrei Shevchenko. The list went on."
The Guardian, Matt Scott: "Chelsea extended their unbeaten home sequence to a record-equalling 63 games yesterday but it came at a cost. The loss of Mikel John Obi to an ankle injury means Chelsea approach Saturday's FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley with "only 15 fit players" according to their manager, Jose Mourinho."
Daily Telegraph, Clive Tyldesley: "Didier Drogba's 20th League goal of the season confirmed him as the Premiership's leading scorer, and enabled Chelsea to equal Liverpool's record of 63 unbeaten home games in the top flight. But it was a match that Everton might easily have stolen. Their manager David Moyes was sent from the touchline for contesting an incident in the build-up to Drogba's equaliser, and James McFadden was unfortunate to have a late goal ruled out for offside."
Official Chelsea FC Website: "The traditional lap of appreciation to the fans after the final whistle became equally a send-off down Wembley Way for the players and staff."
Well, it’s between Shaun Wright-Phillips who got the assist for the other candidate Didier Drogba. It’s a really close run thing, but a casting vote probably just gives it to Didier for saving the collective arse of the team again, and for now officially getting the Golden Boot as the Premier League top scorer. Unlucky Shaun, take a bow Mr. Drogba.
A strange day steeped in a cloak of anti-climax. A lot of fans seemed to use the day to discuss next season or catch up with the others around them. Even in the café beforehand everything just seemed a little low-key. In essence the players didn’t seem to be that bothered about winning and were concentrating on not losing. Looking at the stats we dominated everything but worryingly, as has been the hallmark of this season, we lack an assassin’s finishing mentality. Teams like Everton need to be put to the sword during periods when we are dominating games and we haven’t done this all season. Our last four results have been draws, three of them at home, and that’s eight dropped points. We finished six behind Manchester United and everyone at the club needs to look at that and think about how we’ve chucked the title away by our apparent over-cautiousness. I hope to see some of this thrown away next season and a bit less of the Arsenal-like attitude towards scoring.
I will be writing my own end of season review, with squad ratings for the season and thoughts going forward, but all of that is after my own post-season break in the South of France. I’ve kicked every ball and done every tackle with the players and frankly I’m knackered.
But I don’t want to detract from what has been a Herculean effort that can still culminate in two trophies from a possible four. The Double should be a rare event and hopefully fate and our own dogged determination will ensure that remains the case. We won the last FA Cup at Old Wembley and let's hope we win the first at New Wembley. Just one more gigantic effort lads, just one more. Bring that Cup back to the Bridge and make sure that when I open the latest text on my phone during my TGV journey it brings an almighty roar of joy from me.
Just to pick up a point on Kalou,
I agree totally with you Tony, his decision making is very suspect, there were quite a few situations yesterday when he shot instead of passing, and visa versa.
To be honest I would have preferred Sahar to have replaced him instead of Cole, but I suppose Joey's yellow card contributed to his substitution.
It's the last thing we need on top of the injuries next week, are suspensions!
DE - if you win it's The Double, which I believe should be a rarity, hence just a small omen for me that we will win it. That and Warnock's reminder to the God of Fate that "what goes round comes round". Add yesterdays Man Utd selection controversy and the growing dissent about the team selection we had to applaud, and It could just be that a lot of "neutrals" might be with us as the Anyone But United bandwagon seems to be rolling again. If we win then its merely a Cup Double. Still 2 out of 4 ain't bad, as Meatloaf so very nearly sung once.
Here is my wish list for the next season (talking acquisitions, of course):
at the back, Alex and Richards
at the front, Tevez and Berbatov.
I would let go to: Boulharouz, Geremy and Robben.
With these additions / subtractions, we'd be in a race of ONE, again!
Robben ought to leave...am sick an tired of having players that play only when it suits them...
He is just 22/23 and he is missing those many games??? I do not think his helping our cause...
i would rather him out and get SWP more playing time...
That's not setting a very good example Jose "am sick and tired.."
That's Robben's excuse!
You're all talking rubbish clearly if you want Robben to leave...clearly clueless Mr Musumba if you believe Wright-Phillips ahead of him when both fit. Wright-Phillips has played above average for 2months and i'm not talking about him tearing teams to pieces because you all know he hasn't! He's just played well. As for Robben he might be Mr.sicknote but on his day he's as good as Cristiano Ronaldo! First season he scared teams to death. He's just too injury prone, but for all you muppets calling for him to be out, you need your heads checked! You watch, if he's fit Jose will pick him everyday in the starting 11! And that's all i got to say about that!
Please please stop calling for Robben's exit. It was all that Dirty bastard, Aaron mokoena's fault..he broke his leg with an x-rated tackle in the 04/05 season..and after that the Kid is just too scared to let anyone come at him..he is always jumping and losing the ball out of fear! He'll have plenty of rehab time after FA cup....and next season...god willing he'll come back stronger..and we'll be able to hear this again..
"..and now here's robben, goes past one, past two, turns, dummies and shoots!...
WHAT A FINISH, WHAT A BRILLIANT GOAL!..Chelsea will now surely...surely win this..."
Just finished watching the awards Essien good choice for player of the year but Drogba should have won it he's been a monster all year and never let us down but apart from that Mikel won young player of the year and he's been outstanding every game this year and did he let the cat out of Jose's bag when he said he'd be playing on Saturday?????? Lets hope so and lets pray the Its mind games Joses been play and Carvalhos Playing aswell, i think we could have a strong team playing saturday, fingers Crossed.

Guido + ravenous, you are both missing the point! Nobody argues that Robben isn't a great footballer when healthy. What I am saying is that he's never healthy long enough to make a difference! And the opponents know already how fragile he is... therefore he has little chance to scare anyone... one "good" tackle and ... problem solved! We need players that can deal with a tough tackle! Like Drogba! SWP is not close to Robben is terms of skill.... but he does't "break" like Robben. Robben will do just fine in Spain or Italy... but he'll always be near a hospital if he stays in the Premiership. That's why I hope we'd get players that have the skills but also toughness to compete in such a demanding league as the Premiership. At the front, Tevez and Berbatov are two such players! Although, it seems it will be tough to get either...
And just for the record, in my opinion there is only one person responsible for us being second and ManU taking the title... and that person is Abramovich!!! Not allowing any acquisitions in January... made it impossible for Jose to get the job done! At the end of the day, Abramovich's little power games hurt his own team!
i think chelsea need a more powerfull goal keeper for the next season .. and i think david james of portsmouth or gomez of PSV is a good choice..
Andy - disagree that the cause of us losing the league was Roman blocking January signings. Instead it was our poor transfers in/out last summer (although Roman may hay been to blame for that)
CFC-N-ME--If there was an award for joomping higher and ramming harder then I agree with you. It's for the Drog.
Bring Tevez!
Slight confusion on the reports.
Is the headline "Drog lost in London last night" or "Dog lost in London last night"
Henry, what are you doing here? You have promised many times that you are not going to show up on this board. I know it is very boring to write something about Arse-anal team that never wins anything. That is probably why you are coming in here to warm yourself in the lights of the Chelsea glory!
SkySports, Drogba hints at Chelsea exit!!!
what is that?
LINK&
MikeL--I love the way arsenal play, i love real madrid, i love brazilian football, i love tevez. i love football. i am a chelsea fan who's furiously unhappy. my guess is you're demented.
2 Premiership Titles, 2 Carling Cups, 1 Community Shield, and an FA Cup Final to look forward to.... and you're unhappy Henry......
Might I suggest Prozac
Twat!
Henry you say 'i am a chelsea "fan" whos furiously unhappy', explain why? i know and everyone knows we dont play the most beautiful football but how can you call yourself a Chelsea fan cause thats the way we'v always played (apart from No.25, the Legend) So dont come on here saying your a fan cause your not and never will be! if chelsea were in the conference id still be there week in week out cheering the blues, now get real and piss off to the Arsenal Board you Gooner in a blue shirt!
"Shame because he could use a bit of extra penetration!"
Mark, sorry... well, we men think only about football and sex...
"And I think nearly everyone expects Carvalho and Mikel to be fit for Saturdau."
Yeah, they are gonna be there for sure.
Alex, hehehe, nice point.
Hi everyone. I think nebi Mcarthy would be a great buy for us. just the right age, proven prem goalscorer with experience and will work his socks off for JM. I like his style, strong and could easily play with Didier who is also his friend. the only hting is he is South African which means we might lose him to the African nations cup so I dont know but I believe he would be a great sighning and cheap to ! Blackburn only paid 2.5m so even if doubled I think it would be cheap. what do people think?
TSO has two dogs at home one is Gullit and the other one Rijkard :-) I assume that second one sometimes get punished :-D. I like all this story with the dog. I would do the same, if cops want to take the dog from my kids.
I would have done exactly the same as TSO, only in my case it wouldn’t have been in the news. The hint to the authorities about the dog is bit fishy…. Makes one wonder from whom it comes and also about it’s timing.
2Deep Blue
Just shows how much all of them scared of us, they just do anything to stop us!
But there is NO stopping us NOW!!!!
Come On Boys just one lust push! Forever BLUE!!!!
Deep Blue,
I agree with you. When one buys a dog from a breeder all inoculations are made prior to the deal. Such dogs from breeders cost a lot of money and all the precautions regularly in tact. Papers say that somebody tipped the authorities about the Jose's dog. I agree with you this story is fishy!!!
Good afternoon sports fans,
The possibility of meeting for the F.A. Cup final was discussed by a few some weeks ago. Yesterday i spoke with Gina, the manager at Shed bar. Gina couldn't help regards reserving an area for www.chelseablog.com bloggers, nor any other group.
Gina's only advice (and mine to) is avaoid the Shed Bar, every fan from outside west London will be trying to get in there.
So as for meeting up we can still do. I have three/four pubs in mind to check out; Fulham barand grill, one bar, Finches, Imperial Arms.
Me and some lads are aiming for the 1pm mark to get seating/positioning.
Any other nominations for venues are welcome.
.............................K.T.B.F.F.H..............................
I shall be having a drink whilst game is on- on board a TGV heading towards the South of France! The most stress-free FA Cup final I'll remember!
*quietly shuts door and leaves for station at 5am*

All the football and the Greatest CFC funs!!! I hope next time when I talk to you we will be FA Cup 2007 Champions!!!!!
Come on Chelsea!!!!!!!!!!Come on Chelsea!!!!!!!!!!Come on Chelsea!!!!!!!!!!Come on Chelsea!!!!!!!!!!Come on Chelsea!!!!!!!!!!Come on Chelsea!!!!!!!!!!Come on Chelsea!!!!!!!!!!Come on Chelsea!!!!!!!!!!Come on Chelsea!!!!!!!!!!
CCCCCCCHHHHHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLSSSSSSEEEEEEEAAAAAAA Terrible 1st half but we came out fighting in the 2nd n now we all know whos the best team in English football united have played well all season but just think of those deciding penos and all the Refs that helped them along the way. Heres to the premiership returning to Stamford Bridge Next Season.
KTBFFH.
Congrats, Chelsea!
Ronaldo... who?
Robben proved my earlier point... he can't scare anyone with his well documented talent since one tough tackle takes him out of the game!

just wanted to revisit your comments about Boulharouz- I think he was 100% to blame for the goal. We had 3 defenders on two, all he had to was mark his man, but he got sucked in centrally towards the ball. Had he stayed out wide on his man, there wouldn't have been the wide open alley to play the goalscorer in. Unfortunately, I think he's quite a liability, and obviously TSO realises this.
Agree that Boulharouz was to blame for the goal. He’s always the wrong side of the attacker. The game against Ronalinho must have gone to his head because he’s totally lost it since then.
I noticed Ricky was unable to bend his leg – or was it just kidology?
As for Kalou he seems scared to shoot. Always one too many touches and if it’s on his left there’s no hope!
Last couple of games have been an anti-climax – hope they’ve got enough for one more surge this Saturday. Hoping for a good atmosphere at the beamback (couldn’t get tickets) and will they let us invade the pitch?
