Premiership: Tottenham Hotspur v. Chelsea

Sunday, 05 November 06, 01:52 AM · Comments (17)

It is fair to say Chelsea are Tottenham's nemesis in the Premiership. Not since they triumphed 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on 10th February 1990, 32 games ago, have Spurs taken all three points in the League. Beating north London's perennial under-achievers is something us Blues never tire of.

Jose Mourinho has more than done his bit to maintain the record, guiding Chelsea to three wins and a draw since his arrival in the summer of 2005. William Gallas's injury time winner in last season's game at the Bridge is the most memorable moment from Mourinho's games in charge. It was certainly the best way imaginable to consign a team on a 16-year losing streak to yet another defeat.

In team news, Mourinho's only injury concern, apart from Petr Cech, is Andriy Shevchenko who continues to struggle with a thigh injury. The Ukranian has sat out the last three games, but was expected to train with the rest of the squad yesterday and could renew his partnership up front with Didier Drogba.

Ashley Cole will be making his first appearance at White Hart Lane since his move from Spurs' hated rivals Arsenal on transfer deadline day. A hostile reception awaits but Cole believes the atmosphere will be no worse than Wednesday's game against Barcelona at Camp Nou, during which he produced his best performance in a Chelsea shirt.

Spurs have a major doubt over first choice centre back Michael Dawson. The former England Under-21 international captain picked up a hip injury in the UEFA Cup win over Club Bruges on Thursday. Fellow defenders Calum Davenport and Paul Stalteri are definitely out.

A whole generation of Tottenham fans have still to witness a defeat of Chelsea on their own turf. It's over 19 years since Spurs last took all three points off the Blues at White Hart Lane: Nico Claesen scored the only goal in a 1-0 win on 22 August 1987. Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister and Madonna's "Who's That Girl" was Number One.

Spurs would like to remember, remember the 5th November 2006 as the date they beat the Blues for the first time in the Premiership. It may not be politically correct to say this, but there's more chance of somebody successfully blowing up the Houses of Parliament.

I am looking forward to the boys doing a job on Spuds today. I still feel there's more chance of Hell freezing over than Rottenham getting a positive result...

Like the new look too.

Mourinho criticised by Johansson

Can somebody tell how can we stop it? How can we stop this hypocrisy in press? I am simply disgusted by the level of hypocrisy in the English press. This is unbelievable!!!!

Top take old news and put them again on the main page. To the news which were denied even by ..... Lehnart.

MikeL - Life's too short to worry about what that hypocritical windbag says about anything: 99% of his utterances are platitudes at best. Hopefully he'll lose his bid to be re-elected UEFA president, although I'm not sure Michel Platini will be any better when it comes to the subject of Chelsea.

Edit: Cheers, Charmless man. I do my best to keep things fresh 'round these parts.

Back from the pub. Don't think I can take many more matches like today's and last Tuesday's... it can't be good for me.

I suppose it had to happen one day... I was in the final year of being a GCSE guinea pig the last time Spurs did us at the Lane. Mad.

Graham Poll really shouldn't have been allowed to continue officiating after his World Cup fiasco.

I shall have to watch V for Vendetta again later, watch the Houses of Parliament blow up for 'real'.

What a shitter. Still dust yourself down, get back on the bike and ensure Watford get a good going over.

It had to happen at some point and maybe that's a monkey off our back and might serve as a timely reminder on how much harder this season will be.

Graham Poll. Every fucking time, Graham Poll. Can't we just get Roman to disappear him. Nobody'll mind.

Actually didn't bother me as much as it did when I was fifteen, half my lifetime ago. A bit like losing to Fulham - nice to see the special needs kids have their big day. Small clubs need these sort of things, you know. It's a substitute for winning actual trophies.

yeah, the parliament will still stand. quite an enthralling match spoilt by the referee to say the least. Spurs played their heart out although the the 1st goal was avoidable but the second was classic. If Cech (forget cudicini, he will be an onlooker too) was in goal, the first goal would not have gone in. needless to say, we need Cech back as fast as possible.

The loss is painful but if the house of parliament is still standing, then the Blues still stands.

Like the new look too. Still simple and smart .

"Graham Poll. Every fucking time, Graham Poll. Can’t we just get Roman to disappear him. Nobody’ll mind." Thumbs up to that. :)

Lets take this lost as a wakeup call, and kick ourselves into gear. :)
