It seems incredible that after two consecutive Premierships, currently in the hunt for a third and alive and well in the Champions League, that anyone should want to doubt Jose Mourinho. But for me at least, the nagging doubts have surfaced. OK, I’m not sure who is really calling the shots at Chelsea these days — maybe a number of different people are — but for whatever reason I think we had the worst pre-season we have had in a long time. I’m not just talking results and performances, which were not good, but the fact we contrived to go into the season with only three central defenders and three strikers. Conventional wisdom dictates four in each position is the norm, and if you consider our strikers include the inexperienced Salomon Kalou and defenders the dodgy Khalid Boulahrouz, you could argue we have just two strikers and two central defenders. Now this clearly isn’t good enough. We are hostages to fortune for loss of form, injury and suspension all of which plague any league season, all of which have come back to haunt us now. Robert Huth had to go. He was never a Chelsea player in my view. But Eidur Gudjohnsen? I simply do not understand that piece of business. If Mourinho could find no place for him and sanctioned the move, it is a sheer blunder. All of us who have watched Chelsea with Gudjohnsen know we were usually a better team when he played, and I refuse to believe he would not be worthy of a place in our current line up. The handling of William Gallas was farcical. From what I have read, Gallas behaved disgracefully, no question of that. But I don’t see why we couldn’t have seen that at any point over the summer months, and acted accordingly and in good time. Our dithering cost us dearly. We lose Gallas at the last minute to our great rivals (he should have been left to rot in the reserves before we let that happen) and his arrival certainly kick started their season. OK we got Ashley Cole in return, but ask anyone and 90% will say Arsenal got the best end of that deal. Compare this shambles to Barcelona. While we are in the grip of inertia or at best running around in circles, they quietly and efficiently move in for two world class defenders from Juventus, at a third of the cost we pay for a non-striking striker. Why weren’t we involved in these deals? Mourinho identifies we are a full back short and we can all see we are a central defender short yet these players drift by. That brings us to Andriy Shevchenko, and Michael Ballack for that matter. What upsets me is not that they have failed to perform, but that it was so obvious they would fail to perform. I said to anyone who would listen Shevchenko would never cut it here. Firstly, strikers who made a name in Serie A often struggle here, and secondly in Serie A not that many goals earn an inflated reputation. Both apply to Shevchenko. Mourinho is correct not to play him. Shevchenko can shrug and sulk all he wants, but his performances would not earn him a place in a Championship side. Chelsea fans who watched Germany in the World Cup must have been concerned at the lack of contribution from Ballack. Admittedly he was hampered by injury, but nevertheless he looked a player whose powers were waning, and he has certainly delivered a number of anonymous performances in a Chelsea shirt. We buy big players for big games. When they fail to turn up for them, as at Anfield, it makes you wonder what use they are at all. I feared with Ballack and Shevchenko we were buying players on the downward slope, and sadly my fears appear to be realised. But I started off with doubts about Mourinho didn’t I? OK it’s open to conjecture how much influence he has over transfers, but one would assume a man with his reputation and personality must have a great deal of input. I find it impossible to believe the sale of Gallas and Gudjohnsen and acquisitions of Shevchenko, Ballack and Boulahrouz were not at least run by him. And his policy of operating with a lean squad must be open to question when we are undoubtedly at least one player short up front and in central defence? Balance of the squad is surely his domain. Now the team’s performances. I will stick my neck out here and say it is now two years since we have performed well on a consistent basis, either side of Christmas in the 2004/05 season. Did we ever get going last season? Have we got going so far this season? I don’t know about you, but I think under Mourinho entertainment has been at a premium, and as for the first half of games we may as well stay at home an extra 45 minutes. The cautious-patient-grind out narrow wins philosophy is all very well as long as we are winning, which thankfully we did over the last 2 seasons. But when the winning stops and teams are no longer scared of us, we look a very easy team to play against, we end up scrambling and looking ragged chasing late victories, and when teams take the lead I don’t think Mourinho knows how to chase a game and come back to win. How many times have we conceded a relatively early goal and not been able to come back? Now Manchester United are exposing how we may be good front runners, but Mourinho and the team don’t seem to have the stomach for an uphill battle to chase them down. Mourinho has a front runner philosophy. His game plan is to get in front in games, and lead from the front in the league. When it doesn’t work out that way, I can’t see he has a Plan B. Which makes me wonder, if Mourinho doesn’t work out, if we should be looking at a Plan B.
Agreed. I have said a number of times in the last 18 months exactly the same. The best time that Chelsea played was with 2 wingers and Drogba striking. We counter attacked great then.
We have been found out now. Nobody is scared of us anymore. When we were shaky at the last third of the season 2005/6 it was The defence and Drogba up front who picked us up from the shakes. I believe that Abromovitch expected a manager that would sign the right players and play with grace and style and has now got so fed up with scrappy wins and has turned against Mourinho's style. Next season will be interesting to see who is at the helm unless Mourinho can make us play that way, which I doubt he can.
Couldn't agree more,
Like you say all arogant and cocky when winning.
How he reacts when we're loosing is obviuosly more important.
I'm only a young supporter (24) but our youth system never brings players though, JT obviuosly a briliant talent. Huth was a Chelsea player from his early teens so was a true blue, but just chouldn't cut the mustard.
Arnesen better pull his socks up sharpish.
KTBFFH.
couldn't agree less. second in the league, still in every cup comp and still to play the leaders at home isn't a bad situation for the team (assuming, that is, you have supported them for more than three years). let's wait and see how the rest of the season plays out before slating the most successful manager we've ever had.
Where we are doesn't worry me. It's the way we play after we should have strengthened our squad with all the money that was spent. But selling eidur, damien, william, robert?? Did we get equal quality in return???? I think not. Indeed we should have taken our piece off the juventus playeers.
This article is even worse than the one when author looked for a new manager. Team can loose particularly team affected by injuries so heavily, like ours. All these clever comments: "I new that from the beginning" or "I told you so" do not help†remind me my ex wife. She always new everything from the beginning. I remember last season everybody was crying why we do not play 4:4:2. This season probably the same people question 4:4:2 formation and ask why we do not play 4:3:3. Last year TSO was The incarnation of God of football. This season some loonies are already looking for the new manager. Come on guys!!! The team is going through the difficult times and that is all.
I went to the game at Anfield. The most frustrating aspect was the lack of commitment from all of our players especially Frank Lampard. He was pulling out of tackles he would normally be straight in for. Re: Henry, i think you should listen to your own advice. Ballack was simply awful. There is no heart from a supposed professional who earns £130k a week. The sooner he goes, the better. Mourinho has never played the exciting football Chelsea fans expect and i think this season is the final straw with 3 central midfielders. It doesn't work. It is time for change (i hate having to say that)
The youth policy is clearly a bone of contention down at the Bridge and might have a fair bit to do with the (alleged) friction between Jose and Arneson.
The whole setup was criminally ignored by Ranieri and we're arguably a number of years behind the likes of Arsenal in that respect; as far as I'm aware the signs are good in terms of some of the teenagers coming through, but it will take a while.
Much of Mourinho's beef seems to be that Arnesen hasn't provided him with suitable cover for injured players and so forth. Possibly harsh (and possibly a situation of Jose's / the board's making in terms of departures in the summer), but many of our problems stem from JT's absence - you can certainly cover him (as Boulahrouz would normally be doing), but he's nigh-on impossible to replace in terms of spirit, leadership and influence - you could spend vast amounts of money and not even come close.
Interesting point about Barca's capture of the Juve players in the fire sale; I don't think Thuram has featured that much, but something that wasn't widely reported here (oddly enough) was Mourinho's comment that he felt fighting over Juve's players would be disrepectful at what was a sad time for the club. Presumably it didn't fit with the media portrayal of him over here?
The leaner squad philosophy was an experiment that has certainly cost us, although whether any team would have the calibre of replacements (and still be second in the league etc.) to adequately stand in for Cech, Cudicini, Terry, Joe Cole etc. irrespective of squad size is highly questionable. So the current situation could well be Mourinho's mistake, to an extent, but he's not the first manager to make one and he won't be the last. Said it before, but he's not doing too badly for a man who has been managing for less time than Joe Cole has been a professional footballer.
Nice article Stephen.
As author of this article I should say I fully acknowledge Jose's success since he took over but it's where we are going I'm worried about. It's up to him to show us this is a bad spell and nothing more serious. That I can say 'I told you so' is worrying - because if as a self confessed armchair manager I can see these things, it makes me wonder why a £5m a year professional can't. SC Blue has outed me I am a Johnny-Come-Lately of almost 37 years standing having been to my first Chelsea match in 1970. We lost 3-0 at Everton by the way!!!
Jose went into the first part of the season with players short up front and in defence but didn't complain because the deals were done in the last minute of the transfer window. We just had to get through that. But it was in the expectation those gaps would be filled when the window opens. That's the point it's gone wrong. Blame Jose for that? No. Look elsewhere and ask them why they've backtracked on the understanding everyone had.
I agree with elements of the article certainly. Mourinho has not covered himself in glory this season. The leaner squad concept has backfired - there is simply not enough quality cover. However we have faced rather freak circumstances - losing our top two goalkeepers in the same game, losing three central defenders for the match at Anfield etc. I doubt any of these will happen again. Plus as soon as we have been performing badly JM has moaned about players he allegedly has not bought or problems behind the scenes. Quite frankly I feel he should just get on with the job in hand - he seems to be more concerned with retaining his image as the top manager in the world rather than getting the best out of the Chelsea squad in adverse circumstances. He is paid handsomely to do the latter.
Dare I say it i think Henry has a point about Sheva and Ballack. The two are constantly panned, and neither of them have put in consistently good performances this season. However you have to analyse the way we play and whether they are suited to our (deep breath) long ball and profoundly negative gameplan. It is rather unfortunate that for the last two years we created chances galore with 4-3-3 yet were profligate, we buy one of the best finishers the world has ever seen and one of the best headers of the ball in Europe and then revert to 4-4-2 and conitnually lump it to the Drog, hoping he will spank one in from 30 yards (and generally, to be fair, he has).
The Ballack and Sehvchenko signings made perfect sense to me. We needed an experienced midfielder of subtlety and quality allied with steel (very rare) to bolster our Champions Leage run and to bring out the best in players such as Crespo (who obviously subsequently left). Rather than relying on Lamps to constantly score (I love him, but if you shoot 15 times a game the odds are you will) Plus he was free (ok, big wages, but could have been paid simlar at any other top club in the world). Sheva, whatever the article says (and I am sorry but the bit about him is complete nonsense) has one of the best scoring records Serie A has ever seen and, with the exception of one season, has consistently hit the back of the net against top opposition and defences. Plus I think is the top scorer in the Champions League. Anyone who doubted his pedigree is either insane or enjoying the benefit of hindsight.
Further if you think Sheva is past it then Thuram is going on 35 and has barely played all season. Zambrotta, an excellent player no doubt, has had an absolute nightmare at Barca this season.
With any top players who have plied their trade in different leagues for the majority of their career it will take them a while to adapt, and I still believe both Ballack and Sheva will do so.
You also have to remember that both these players played for teams who built their sides around their strengths. This is the complete opposite of the JM philosophy (I suppose it could be argued we build our team around Frank - one of the reasons we tend to be one-dimensional).
The real issues I believe this year have been serious injuries to crucial players and Mourinho's inability to bring the best out of our flair players. He worked wonders with Joe Cole but unfortunately he has been injured. His relationships with the others does not seem to have been so profitable, with all of them (Robben, SWP, Sheva and J Cole when he was briefly fit) being relegated to the bench.
I think Stephen is correct when he suggests Mourinho lacks a plan B. He likes to seize the initiative and hold on to what he has. This clearly does not work when you are coming from behind.
I feel Anfield might be a turning point though as it was a truly horrific performance (admittedly not helped by injuries) and it has been coming all season. I hope now we go on a fantastic run (winning all games in the league - I think that will be necessary) to lift the Premiership trophy in style. At the moment, we definitely do not deserve, neither do we look like doing so.
Write ups like this make me wonder whether the writers are merely trying to incite some sort of reaction or really putting out there own true feelings at the time. Well Stephen if it is the latter then am really now wondering how long you have been with the club...Okay not fair...
How long have you been with this club since TSO arrived at the bridge...You write interesting stuff out there but you shock me with your analysis.
Let me analyse this for you rather clearly...
Injury list
Joe Cole
Cech (until recent)
Cudicini
Terry
Robben
Khalid
Joe Cole was our best out field player last season...
Cech was the best Goal Keeper in the league...Had to play Hilario our third choice this season for most of the matches.
We have only be dominated against Liverpool...whole season in the league...
We are in most cups at this stage than we were at last season...
ManU is ahead of us with only 6 points...bridgeble really possible...
Gud, Gallas and Duff wanted out for one reason or another...
TSO asked for funding early Jan (which I personally do not agree with considering that all the buys we have tried to do over the break have flopped) but probably this time we could have gotten a decent buy..who knows?
We have played Obi - who is highy rated and showed against Liverpool, Lassan Diarra, Essien, Robben, Kalou, SWP...all potential for the near future...Bright future???
Now when I put all this next to all you are writing up...all that comes to mind is that you are entitled to your own opinion and which in my view is baseless. A bad spell in the Premier league (among the four cups we are chasing) and we are crying end...For your information we have never played like Arsenal...we do not have their kind of ball players...We have players with heart and desire to win...
TSO maybe wrong in some but I would love to see you at your desk...with these kind of outbursts I wonder what you would have written if you were on the other side...
Lets go out and proove your oversight tonight and then I wonder what else you will say...
Just hold your horse!
At last someone has the guts to say that JM is not God.A lot of what has happened must be blamed on him.I get fed up of hearing"leave it to god,he knows what he's doing".If that is the case why is there such an unsavoury undercurrent of unrest at the club. Why is there "a healthy tension"which is an absurd comment at best.If as Peter Kenyon says that JM has the last word on transfers why were Gallas,Crespo,Duff,Gudjhonsen,Huth and Tiago allowed to leave over the last two seasons.Granted Huth was not a favourite of mine but surely it's always a good idea to play someone in their correct position if at all possible. To make matters worse the players brought in have not performed or lived up to their inflated reputations. How much time do they need to get used to playing for us?Fulham have just signed Montella from Italy and he's scored 3 goals in two games, didn't take him long didi it?Kalou and Mikel were supposedly bought as investments for the future,if that's the case they shouldn't have been thrust into the firing line and be expected to perform as well as our most experienced international players.Mourinho has stated we need a forward and a defender, why didn't he see that at the start of the season. The last two seasons we have survived any injury crisis because we had a bigger squad with better back up players. Was it blind faith or sheer arrogance to expect to go through this season and cope with injurys and suspensions with a smaller and inferioir playing squad?
Why did we let Mancienne extend his stay at QPR when we didn't have one fit centre half?It can't be because of inexperience because Woods,Sahar and Sinclair have made first team debuts.
There are far too many people saying that things could be worse, they are correct it could and may be worse by this time next week. Can anyone say they are 100% confident we'll beat Wycombe and Forest?
Before anyone suggests that I'm only complaining because I'm a fair weather fan,I would like to say I have supported Chelsea for nearly forty years.People bring up poor results from many years ago against teams from lower leagues and tell us we shouldn't be complaining about our position. The problem with that is,the team were nowhere near as good, didn't have the financial backing or have as many fans who live and breathe Chelsea every single day of their lives. This is why we are upset that the club we love is becoming a headline in every newspaper for all the wrong reasons. It's time that everyone at Chelsea pulled in the same direction, instead of petty squabbling, because time is running out rapidly. The next week could shape the rest of our season.Just imagine this site if we lose both cup games, don't sign any badly needed reinforcements,JT is ruled out for the season and we lose Drogba,Lampard and Essien through injury or suspension. If you think it can't happen, did you think you'd ever see Chelsea play a cup semi-final or against Liverpool without a centre half?
One thing you might want to reconsider - Chelsea do know how to chase a game - in fact, they are one of the few teams who can kick their performance up several gears once faced with defeat. Credit for that goes to Mourinho's man-management skills, no where else.
I agree that TSO does not have a plan B...
He has plan B, C, D ...ZZZZZ
How many times has the special one played varied game plays not previously seen in this land? Where are you looking when the matches are being played?
I am not blaming many of you because the only play formats you have managed in this discussion are 442 and 433...
This season we have managed
433
442
352
253
334
and all these in varied formats...Why do you think his game notes are being craved? Oh you would not know this...
He is the master tactician...in the football sense...but even he is not a magician...
Lynn
The more you trawl this site the more you'll get used to the likes of
Henry : A serial Mourinho hater who flatly refuses to accept that JM has been the catalyst behind the success
Jose Musumba and MikeL : who are the religious zealots who believe that any criticism of the club, the fans, the players or the manager is some form of heresy and total evidence of your disloyalty and disrespect.
On the other hand the majority of us welcome the environment of open, honest and healthy debate, whereby people put their arguments across based on sound logic, facts and experienced opinion. For this, Stephen, the author deserves credit. I have maintained all through this crisis that JM is not perfect and like Wenger and Fergie will make judgement errors from which he (hence we) will suffer setbacks. It's a copy of life really where the best mistakes to learn from are the ones that hurt the most.
A message to MikeL and Jose M - the writers for this blog write articles to stimulate debate and opinion, sometimes reflecting their own views and sometimes playing Devil's Advocate. It's part of the fun you see of supporting a great club and being given the platform with which to praise or criticise. Perhaps if I saw any article forthcoming from either of you my opinion of you might change, but in the absence of that I am more than happy for you both to lurk and spout your "blind faith eternally optimistic" dogma from the sidelines.
Sauce for the goose chaps, sauce for the goose.
Also, I did post this on a previous comment, but JM's thinning squad experiment must end and end soon. Next year it is the ANC and we will lose 5 players (Drogs, Essien, Geremi, Kalou and Mikel). If we have injuries similar to this year (and we've been lucky injury wise for the last two years) losing the likes of Robben, Carvalho, Terry, Lamps et al then where would we be? We need to start trialling some of the youngsters IF we think they'll cut it, if not them let them go elsewhere. From my point of view we should have kept Mancienne back and given him a chance in the cup games. Who knows we might have another Terry/King/Campbell/Adams on our hands.
Tony,
Great points, just a shame someone (you in this case) always has to spend the time explaining the finer points of why we healthily contribute to this blog. Some poeple just dont get the point of a constructive debate do they ???
The (cynical) reason for my post is on response to your comment on next years ANC. Based on current performances, surely only 2 of the 5 would be classed as being missed. Depending on resources at the time, I'd give the other 3 more time off if I had the chance..............
Jose Musumba...His Specialness has also used the 411112 format.
Lyn,
i though your points were good, although wwith all the injuries and suspenstions blah blah blah....
We will need to purchase a good few in the summer window to make up for departures, on going injuries and any further injuries.
I still think JM is God who is feeling a bit worse for wear at this point. How desheveled does he look now compaired to the smart suits and shaven days of yesteryear...These defeats and poor performances are keeping him awake at night and restless all of the time (i hope).
If we could somehow buy back Duff, Gallas and Eider, Sell Shevers, Kalou, Mikel and Ballack all in the january Transfer window i think everything will turn out just peachy.....
KTBFFH
So our concept of debate is agreeing on the negative of a topic Tony???
I thought the meaning of debate is present you argument with supportive evidence. I do not think it helps for one to come with a discussion with a mere aim of airing one's views just for justs sake. I believe we are dealing with intelligent people here requiring informed intelligent discussions.
A zealot you say we are...well I kind of like the sound of that...
The fun side to all this is that we share the joys and pains of supporting Chelsea. Oh and would love to post a few articles but I am think they would be too pro-TSO, Chelsea et al...
Oh this one's good. From the SUN no less......
Arjen Robben could be on his way out of Chelsea in the near future.
According to The Sun, Jose Mourinho's patience with the player snapped during Saturday's damaging 2-0 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield, when the Dutch winger limped off after 20 minutes.
Mourinho was reportedly furious with Robben who - he believes - has failed to show any fight in the face of adversity.
The Blues boss turned in rage to his bench after Robben signalled injury at Anfield and shouted to sub Shaun Wright-Phillips: "Shaun, get ready to go on. Get him f***ing off."
Later, when asked about the player's condition this weekend, Mourino said: "I don't know how long he will be out.
"But with Robben, normally it is for a long time every time he is injured."
German giants Bayern Munich have already shown an interest in the player, though he will not be sold during this transfer window.
He was also mentioned by Real Madrid chief Ramon Calderon as a possible signing during last year's successful presidential election campaign.
Thanks for the appreciation of this article and the criticism even if sentiments I want Chelsea to lose/I am a JM hater/never watch us are wide of the mark. I have and will defend JM to the hilt in the face of the media vendetta against him and the club (I have lost count of the times I have phoned TalkSport aka TalkLiverpool and berated them berating him). I support his every outburst no matter how outrageous he sometimes may seem and maintain he is no worse than Wenger, Fergie or even Benitez. I firmly believe he says everything with the interests of Chelsea at heart, he has certainly made things go our way with refs like they never used to, I believe he is a great coach and the greatest we have ever had.
That doesn’t excuse him from criticism though, nor prevent him from making mistakes, which was the theme of my article. Let’s put this in context. I will never concede Chelsea have bought our recent success. Plenty of ex-Premiership coaches will attest money doesn’t buy you love or a Premiership title. But what it SHOULD do is minimise the risk of the sort of mistakes being made as I accused Mourinho of making this season.
We can’t dispute our summer was sloppy for whatever reason and our squad is too thin. With our resources that should not be happening. Looking back to last season and Jose’s body language when we lifted the PL trophy, I wonder if that apparent disinterest carried forward to the summer transfer deals. We can’t seriously say we have played well this season nor the second half of last. We can’t seriously say all of this is down to Joe Cole’s injury – would Jose have played him with Ballack, Essien, Frank, Makka and Sheva? And those who picked up on how we can fight back to win – not in BIG games we don’t, I should have made that clear. I can think of three games against Liverpool where we did not, and we have come from behind to draw with Arsenal and Man U but not beat them. In Europe we lost and drew with Barca when they took the lead, lost to Bremen, lost to Porto…………Look, when Man U or Arsenal or even the Pool go a goal down they invariably roar back with 2 or 3. Are we confident we can do that?
What I was saying is Jose is now facing a test. He must demonstrate he is able to evolve as a coach. He has had the wonderful front running years, and now regardless of injuries or how clever formations are shuffled for me he has to show he can get stuck in and get the team pounding away for victories as United are doing, and get the comprehensive wins when the opposition are put to bed in 20 minutes. He has to show us if Man U take the lead against us, we’ll score 3. I want to see him give us some kitchen sink football, a season of displays like the 4-2 against Barca. He has to get the players playing with the freedom and expression I see most of them exude for their countries but which seemingly elude them for us – has anyone else noticed that?
I want him to bring us the Premiership and Champions League and years of domination ahead. I want him to show me and all of us he can lead from the front, come back from behind, grind out a win, entertain, take teams apart, dominate opponents. We can start with tonight, I want to see an angry Chelsea go for the jugular from the first whistle and keep at it until the last, injuries or not. I expect - no, DEMAND - a shot in the first 60 seconds - if we start off by tapping the ball across the back 4 I’m personally going on in my overcoat and slip-ons to lump it forward.
It's been proved he has to evolve, if he can't we will stand still or go backwards and previous great successes or not, we must capitalise on the last 2 years, not stagnate. If that means he moves on, well, that's football.
Unfortunately Mancienne is not highly regarded within the club. He is thought of as a good player, but someone who will be sold to a lower Premiership or Championship side, rather than play for us.
I think Mourinho has had a lot of luck this season, especially in the games where we have come back to win or draw having been behind (Barcelona away excepted - fantastic team performance and the diamond worked well). For example, Everton and Wigan away, both these games smacked of Mourinho throwing on all our attacking options in the hope that one of them will do something fantastic, which, especially at Goodison, they did. This luck ran out against Reading and Fulham - where was the plan B there?
Don't get me wrong, I think Mourinho is the best young manager in the world, but although this may sound contradictory, I do not believe he is the master tactictian/genius that Jose and MikeL would have you believe.
Agreed Anthony,
After cuting and pasting this article and reading it again i wasn't so forgein to the idea this is probable. Who do we/TSO replace him with? Will Mourinho buy a winger? We'll be damned if he doesn't.
I'll like to see Lenon or/and Agbonlahore (i think that's how it's spelt, i can hardly pronounce it).
Iknow one thing, whoever we buy in the summer should be proven in the premiership and not in europe, it never seems to work out.
Appologies for my last post, my english is extremely bad. I need to go back to school...
Thats Gunnersbury for ya...
Nice piece by Stephen, a little tilted, but only just....and the responses have proven that this is actually a BLOG!...there's enuf passion flowing from both sides of the major divide here (4 and against JM)
but at the end of all our analysis, the progress of the team remains paramount....
the passion we have all shown on this blog is evoked by the dismal performance displayed by the team (compared to the very high standards set by the same team in times past)....
no matter what the circumstances are, we the fans in diaspora would love to see the fans in UK/England get SOLIDLY behind the team at this point in time (louder than ever before) cos this is the one time they really need our support.....mistakes may have been made by the coach, the board, RA whoever, it really doesnt matter....wat matters is that the boys in blue (who have brought us so much joy and plenty of bragging rights in the last 2 seasons) need our UNFLINCHING SUPPORT through this trying times and i think we should oblige....
the players need some confidence and self belief, and there's none better in creating that than a VOCIFEROUS CROWD on a match day.....
so, lets do our bit.....
always blue!
Yaay, victory over WW!!
ROBBEN shouldn't be sold in my opinion. Whenever he isn't injured he is a real plus for the team. He was MOM in his last two games!!!
He creates opportunities when the team falls short.
Right to worry Stephen but...On good times everybody's happy but the team is going through the difficult times and everybody's got to show character now.Mistakes have done also we had bad luck with injuries. We all miss Gallas, Gudjonsen, Duff and we like to have a team with four center back. But the life is going on and now we just have to try more.Blues were always fighting and have to keep walking this way.

For Goodnesssake there's nothing Sheva&Ballack can do when the ball is flown over them all the time. It's time this Sheva&Ballack debate is restricted to pple that actual watch the game and not those that read papers!
Big fan, big mourinho fan. But totally agreed.
