Hodgson States That Duff Is Set To Take A Medical

UPDATE: According to Sky Sports News, Fulham boss Roy Hodgson admitted that Newcastle midfielder Damien Duff has traveled to London to undergo a medical for the club. He said,

“I think he’s been allowed to come down and he’s having a medical … If all goes well I’m hoping the details will be finalised both on his personal contract and the details between ourselves and Newcastle.”

“I’m hoping that will be finalised at the beginning of next week and, all being well, I’ll be able to tell you he’s a Fulham player next week.”

“Until it’s completed, it’s better to be prudent, but I’m very hopeful we’ll have Damien with us.”

August 14th, 2009 According to Mirror Football, Fulham boss Roy Hodgson hopes to sign Newcastle midfielder Damien Duff after making a £4million bid for him. Hodgson said,

“Damien is a player that interests us. The clubs are talking and we hope a deal goes through … Damien and I go back a long way from when we worked together at Blackburn. He wants to come back to west London.”

“He had injury problems at Chelsea but has done well at Newcastle given the turmopil there … And every time he’s played for Ireland he’s consistently been one of their best performers.”

Michel Still A Target For Alex McLeish

UPDATE: According to Birmingham City’s official website, Birmingham boss Alex McLeish admitted that Sporting Gijon midfielder Michel is still a target. He said,

“We have made some contact (with Sporting Gijon) and I think there are some talks going on.”

“It depends where the finances are in the deal because I know the way we are at the moment we’ve spent more than the budget that was agreed at the end of the season, but I think we had to do that.

“The board have seen the difference between the last time in the Premier League and now, but I’d still like to enhance the squad further but whether the board can do that or see themselves fit to do that that’s really their decision.

“He’s in a great age group and has got good legs and a lovely touch on the ball as you would imagine from a Spanish player in La Liga and I believe he could be a good asset, but we’ll be guided by the board’s decision.”

August 6th, 2009 According to Colin Tattum at the Birmingham Mail, Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish admitted that he is interested in Sporting Gijon midfielder Michel. McLeish said,

“I’ve watched the guy, I don’t think that’s any secret. My identity was exposed in Spain the other night … We’ve had Michel and a number of other players under scrutiny over the summer but there is nothing cast in stone with anybody yet.”

“He’s a decent player … But, as I said, there are others on the radar. It’s not cut and dried the board will give me money for that … But I certainly feel that we do need an injection of players for certain positions, midfield being one of them.”

Myhill To Sign New Deal With Hull City

According to the Hull Daily Mail, Hull City goalkeeper Boaz Myhill is set to sign a new deal with the club. It is reported that Hull City have made him a three-year offer. Phil Brown wouldn’t confirm this rumor but he did admit that there have been talks between the club and Myhill. He said,

Mensah To Sign With Sunderland On Monday

According to Graeme Anderson at The Shield Gazette, Lyon defender John Mensah is set to sign with Sunderland on Monday. Mensah’s agent Fabien Piveteau said,

“The deal is 95 per cent completed now, and it will go through on Monday, I think … The date of when it will be announced will depend on when he gets his visa, but it is close now. ”

“It is John’s dream to play in England, and he has been very impressed with Steve Bruce, with Eric Black, and with Sunderland Football Club.”

Stephane Mbia “Keen To Join” Everton

UPDATE: According to Giscard Gourizro at Sky Sports News, Rennes midfielder Stephane Mbia is interested in joining Everton. Mbia said,

“I have been aware of Everton’s interest since last year when I almost joined them … I am keen to join them because, if what is reported is true, they have said that they want me and that they value me as a player.”

“I am waiting on news. I have not heard anything yet, but for me it is time to move on in my career … I have already told the club (Rennes) of my desire to leave but they have the final say … They know and understand my position.”

June 5th, 2009 According to Robin Hackett at Setanta Sports, there are reports stating that Rennes midfielder Stephane M’Bia has agreed to join Everton. According to Rennes general manager Pierre Dreossi, the club is willing to let M’Bia leave if they receive a good offer. He said,

“Mbia is the only player we are willing to let leave, but that is only if we get a suitable offer, which has not been the case so far.”

Arsenal have also been linked with M’Bia before.

Manchester City Pursuing Joleon Lescott
