Barça 5 Real Madrid 0

Villa and Pedro celebrate. Barça 5-0 Madrid

What to say about this one? Real Madrid arrived at Camp Nou as leaders of La Liga, unbeaten all season, with the supposed tactical genius of Jose Mourinho to organise the players who have cost millions of euros. Yet at the end of 90 minutes Madrid were so thoroughly beaten that it will be quite a while before any Madridista tries to claim his team is better than Barça. Tonight Barça outclassed their old rival so comprehensively that it does not seem unfair to sat that we could have won by more than the five goals difference.

Pep Guardiola decided on his best eleven while Mourinho was denied the chance to do the same by a late injury to Higuain who was replaced by Benzema. I was pleased to see that instead of playing another defensive player in midfield, Mourinho stuck with both Ozil and Di Maria as their discipline is not the best for chasing the ball, while the passivity of Benzema and Ronaldo in trying to win back possession meant our defence had the time to bring the ball out comfortably. What did surprise me was that combined with this Madrid decided to play with a very advanced defence which gave us plenty of chances to play the killer ball into space although we did suffer somewhat by Villa getting caught offside too often.

Barça didn't take long to start creating chances, in the 6th minute the ball came to Puyol in the area after a short corner, he played the ball out to Messi in the right wing position and Messi sent in a delightful floated chip from a very tight angle that bounced out off the far post. Then in the 10th minute Iniesta cut inside from the left and tried his luck from 25 yards, his shot touched Carvalho before catching Xavi on the back of the leg, the ball looped nicely forward to Xavi who reacted well to flip the ball over Casillas to open the scoring.

Real Madrid tried to hit straight back and Valdés had to be alert to tip over an effort from Di Maria, but this turned out to be the closest they came all night and after just 18 minutes they went further behind. Xavi played a long crossfield ball that found Villa on the left, Villa got past Ramos to get in a cross which Casillas failed to cut out and Pedro was quicker than Marcelo and he had the easy job of knocking the ball over the line. Xavi was involved in everything and in the 27th minute he found a pass through to Pedro on the right but Pedro lacked decisiveness allowing Casillas to deny him.

The game was looking very comfortable but in the 30th minute Cristiano Ronaldo provoked an incident by pushing a surprised Pep Guardiola who took a moment longer than he should have giving back the ball. The reaction of some of our players was not too clever and Valdés went into the book, along with Ronaldo, for running out of his goal to get involved in the pushing and gestering. Our players looked a little unnerved by the incident, Villa also got a card giving away a free kick for Ronaldo to waste, and then the horrible one had a fair shout for a penalty when Valdés slid into him but the ref was not one for blowing many fouls (despite the number of cards shown). However, this was a brief blip in our dominance and we were soon back on top with a couple of typical exciting runs from Messi before half time.

Mourinho brought on the more defensive Lass in place of Ozil for the second half but if anything the game swung even more into Barça's control. In the 48th minute Villa was denied by Casillas, then in the 52nd minute Messi sent a sweet sweet pass into Xavi who looked to have got round Casillas but he could only screw his shot back into the sidenetting. Messi continued to show his vision to find the pass in the 55th minute sending a pass that found Villa, this time just level with the last defender, but Villa's run took him away from Pepe and he turned to fire past Casillas.

The joy for the crowd increased even more just three minutes later when Messi this time from a bit deeper, played another sublime pass through to Villa who beat Casillas to the ball on the edge of the area and prodded past him for the ball to roll into the net. It was very tough for Madrid's players to keep their heads up after this, some of them kept running but mainly they never got close to the ball and they had to be satisfied on the few occasions they were quick enough to get the man though this kept the ref busy as more yellows came out. The few times they tried coming forward our defence was always alert with Puyol in particular putting in a typical heroic performance getting stuck into every single challenge as though his life depended on it even with the score at 4-0.

Guardiola showed it was his day and not Mourinho's by getting some effect from his substitutions. Bojan was immediately involved in two dangerous moments immediately after coming on for Villa, and then Bojan became provider sending in the cross for another late sub, Jeffren, to get the historic fifth goal in injury time. There was still time for Sergio Ramos to put in his bid to be as hated as Mourinho and Ronaldo. The ref pulled out a straight ref for Ramos's cynical scythe at Messi but Ramos completely lost his head and pushed both Puyol and Xavi in the face before leaving the pitch.

This is another stunningly brilliant moment in our recent history. In just over two years under Pep Guardiola we have achieved so many titles and memorable moments. Guardiola's record against Madrid is also beginning to look incredible: five games in charge against Madrid, five victories, sixteen goals in favour, two against (And I don't suppose Madrid want to remember their two goals as they came in the 2-6 win at the Bernabeu). Pep, you are simply incredible, they will have to build you a statue outside Camp Nou.

Madrid will be very humbled by this defeat and for one as cocky as Mourinho it will be difficult to get people believing quite so much in him after such a disaster. However, they do not have to play Barça every week and there is no reason why they won't start winning again straight away. It will be interesting to see how much this result affects the whole project of Mourinho as Madrid's coach, the press will have much less patience with him and there will be many who are dieing to bury him. This could turn out to be his toughest task in his impressive managerial career. The difference between the sides was enormous on the pitch today but Madrid do not have to play Barça every week, there are only two points between the teams at the top of La Liga and there is no reason why Madrid won't start winning again straight away. So Pep and the players will have to maintain their composure and not get too excited by tonight as there is still a long battle ahead to decide this league. However, as fans I think we are entitled to a bit of singing and dancing tonight, we can puff out our chests tomorrow happy in the beautiful memory we will always have of this game. The great Real Madrid came to town today but we left the world with no doubt tonight that Barça is still the team to fear, Madrid will be on their way home right now unable to believe the lesson Barça gave them tonight. Five-nil people, we stuffed them five-nil, enjoy your parties and your celebration, unfortunately I need to get up for work in six hours so one very happy cule is off to his bed now.

I said it in the preview and I'll say it again... Carvalho is a tramp, it's beyond me how he stayed on the pitch tonight. Alot of people are giving Messi sh*t for diving when Carvalho elbowed him and saying that he is no better than Ronaldo when it comes to diving and cheating (granted he did go down after waiting for a second when Carvalho elbowed him). I would'nt blame him for this especially after the incident a few minutes before when Pepe won the ball off Messi in the box and Carvalho ran over and kneeed him in the head and then tried to play it off as an accident.

Carvalho has been getting away with this type of stuff for years and I wish the ref could of caught him tonight, instead he books Messi.

Anyway... There was no way I thought the score would of ended like that, I was actually quiet nervous when the game kicked off as I thought Real had a chance of getting a boring 1-0 win.

Happy days, its hard to find a fault with any player tonight. The only thing that the game was missing was a goal from Messi so that everyone could eventually say that he scored against a Mourinho team although what Messi did tonight was as good as scoring a goal.

Absolutely brilliant display. Mourinho has an impressive career but I have never been especially impressed by him and I'm really glad that Barca showed that not only can he be beaten, but that playing beautiful football wins beautiful victories (cough) thinkingoftheinterbarcaCLgameatcampnoulastyear (cough).

Every victory over RM is sweet but this might even surpass my previous favorite (the infamous 6-2 of course). It's a great time to be a cule! Thanks, Nic, for a wonderful update and reliable blog.

I could only watch with great hysteria as Barça thumped bitter rivals 5-nil last night (laughing).

What's more to be proven? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! In fact, the line has been drawn -- d margin glarin'.

Five stretch classico wins against 4 different coaches, the "INFERIOR ONE" (we proved him so beyond any iota of doubt last night) inclusive.

Wait! Wait!! Wait!!!

Did d "INFERIOR ONE" keep his legs in d locker-room b'fore d start of the 2nd half???!!! He was completely glued to his seat devoid of his much acclaimed coachin' pedigree as he watched Pep & his Barça football maestros teach him & his multi-million pound failure squad an unforgettable football lesson. He couldn't stand up, his wits & tactics were grossly outclassed by Pep's. What a pity!!!

Surprisingly though, the inferior one failed the more by not potrayin' dignity in his defeat. He was tryin' to play down d 5-nil annihilation instead of humbly embracin' it by doffin' his hat for Pep & his soccer gladiators that exhibited a football artistery of over 600 complete passes & 5 splendid & unreplied goals all in a single El-Classico encounter -- this must be grossly EMBARASSIN' & EXCRUCIATIN' for Perez, the inferior one, the multi-million pound failure squad & d Madrid faithfuls.

The inferior one, if u ask me, is d worst RM gaffer that has faced Pep in that;- None of their previous coaches {I mean Benchuster, Wande Ramos & Pellegrini} has performed this worse against Pep in Camp Nou despite not havin' such a sophisticated squad. But after expendin' so much millions of pounds & acquirin' d services of d Inferior one, d best they could come up with was a 5-0 ticket -- a signature of Barça's EXPLICIT SUPERIORITY.

The inferior one had better be sacked before he inflicts irreparable havoc on RM & their fans. If d previous gaffers were shown the exit door despite performin' better against Barça than the inferior one, then so should Mourinho too.

Indeed, the inferior one & his disgraceful squad did fall apart like a pack of cards flung from the top of a sky-scraper like I envisaged in d preview of this encounter. Perez & the inferior one are a failure in Madrid, the best they do is to whine about trivialities @ d expense of what actually matters. They've forgotten too early that the inferior one has played about 20 competitive matches both domestically & internationally without a single loss only to lose woefully against Barça. More so, prior to last night's clash, they've been bluffin' about d rigidity & solidity of their defense b'cause they claim to have conceded only 6 goals in twelve la liga matches (d least in d whole of d league b'fore last night's clash) only to concede 5 excellent goals in one match. How solid is that defence now'? (laughin')

I could write on & on but I think I'd just allow RM & their fans to concentrate and forcus on how to cargo their excess luggage (d 5 unreplied goals) from The Abattoir (I mean CAMP NOU).

PS: And Messi, despite not scorin', shone like a million galaxies of stars last night while Ronaldo could only run about, redundant in totality. Messi was everywhere, contributin' invaluably in d midfield play-makin' & creatin' magnificient assists in d ferocious attack. MESSI continues to prove that he's several lifetimes ahead of CR in all ramifications of d round leather game.

OMG, Wow wow wow, it's so crazy. =D =D =D I'm so proud of the team. It could have been more, wished it was 8-0 to give CR a kick in his mouth. How does it taste Mou, is it sweeter than honey? Messi did great, sadly didn't score, but hey it's fine with me. With all the kicking and bumps he got, he's the greatest right now. The whole team was great. What a performance. Congrats to the Barca family. ;)

Supreme football from our boys.

I'm so proud that Pep has revenged MOUR in such a manner simply proving that ugly MOURINHO's style of football just doesn't go too far. With all his Champions League record, he has lost in such a humilliating manner at THE CAMP OF NOU RETURN =D

WHAT A SHAME !!!

Cheers to Nic and all Barsa fans in da house =)

WOOHOOO... :D

5 star football by Pep's boys. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine we'd demolish Real's Galacticos in the manner we did. It was like a darn pinball machine the way Barca passed the ball around the whole match and Real or any other team would've crumbled against such a dominating exhibition of football magic. From Valdes to Villa-Messi and Pedro, the whole darn team was supercharged and just blew Real away from the outset.

Every Barca fan needs to cherish this historic victory. Like Nic says lets just scream, party and celebrate the beautiful display that our heroes put up for the world to see.

Special mention for the humility and grace shown by Pep during the post-match conference. PURE CLASS are the two words that come to my mind. Pep's [and his staff and players] have taken the club and its football to a whole new level altogether and his composure in spite of the spectacular victory and the need to stay focused was absolutely fabulous.

guardiola with his humble smile taught that arrogant rm coach (hate him to the point that he should be dubbed "he who must not be named" what football is all about
PS to CR9 or CR7 or what ever he is called these days: you said you would like them to score 8 on mnday....well they came bloody close so what do you have to say about that 8)
