Barça Confirm Henrique Signing

Tuesday 22nd July by fcbnews_nic · 20 Comments

Barça have confirmed today on their website the signing of 21-year-old central defender Henrique Adriano Buss. Barça will pay his club Palmeiras €8 million plus €2 million depending on classification for the Champions League from 2010/11 - 2013/14. Henrique has signed for five seasons but will play on loan to Bayer Leverkusen in 2008/9. Henrique will arrive in Barcelona today where he will undergo a medical.

In other news today it seems that Barça and Ajax have come to an agreement for Oleguer Presas. It only remains for the player to agree terms with Ajax. The deal is said to be around €3 million + €2.25 million for Champions League qualification.

I really don't know a thing about this Henrique character, so I won't be making any comments on this purchase. However, I hope that he is a quality player. He must be if they gave 10M € for a 21 yo player from Brazil, where you can buy players much much cheaper. On the subject of Oleguer's departure from the club, I know it won't be much noticed by majority of Barca fans, but I do believe that each and every player of Barca Dream Team 2005/2006 should be shown respect on their way out. They did create history after all. As for Oleguer's qualities I must say I never liked his passing and tackling or positioning skills, but he did play well from time to time. Although IMO he never possessed enough qualities to be a regular first team member, he did compensate by working and training very hard and he also won a lot of duels in the air. He will never be missed as Ronnie or Deco, but Barca fans should definitely remember him as an integral part of a team that made history and made all Barca fans across the globe very happy! Goodbye Oleguer and best of luck to you!

Henrique seems like a long term investment signing. Not likely to pay off in near future but pay good dividends in long run.

Wish Oleguer the best of luck at Ajax 8)

Oleguer's departure was immanent thanks to the surplus of defenders, and the fact that his form has only diminished as of late. Guaranteeing that he would almost surely never play.

As far as Henrique is concerned, I think Barca hope to build him up and train him to be a part of the new back line of the future. Caceres, Pique, Alves, Henrique, the oldest of these guys is 25. He has many of the same character strengths as Puyol, and while he is not a catalan, I think the club hopes to breed him into a possible captain and focus point of the defense.

If we didn't snag him now, he would have been gone to another big club by the winter or spring next year. Good purchase.

Im not really sold on Henrique, but he was just called up for the national team, so maybe Barca found a jewel here. Im in shock that someone actually paid money for Oleguer. I love his attitude, but he did not have the skill to be on this team. I think he stayed so long b/c his loyalty to the Catalonia national team and he was a symbol for it on Barca. To give him credit though, the last year he started, 2005-06, we did win the double.

Oleguer is one of the worst players ever to play for our club. We all know, even his own mother, probably. But you who don' live in Spain you may not know that this poor devil is also one of the most despicable persons you'll ever find. Among other fine deeds (take a look at Wikipedia, Spanish version, you'll be surprised), Mr. Presas made a plea for mercy in favour of ETA serial killer De Juana Chaos (25 people killed, 3.000 years sentence). Oleguer himself is still waiting to be judged for assaulting a policeman. So good news so far ... since I can't remember! But I feel sorry for Ajax, I really do.

Clarity i'm with you, to think that someone actually paid 3 million Euros for Oleguer is ridiculous. he isn't worth half that, but hey at least he is gone and we got good money for him. We really did sell Dos Santos for a basement bargain price.

Welcome Henrique, best of luck to you. to all of you doubters, okay he played 5 games for his previous club, but they must have been 5 impressive performances as he made it into the Brazilian national team and at only 21 years of age...

Oleguer might of had commitment, but he certainly lacked talent I thinks it's appaulling that he appeared in over 150 games for Barca.

Rafa will be staying for at least one more year. I assume he will be sold next summer in order to make room for Henrique.
