Barça Finish US Tour In San Francisco Against Chivas

Thursday, 18 June 09, 12:20 AM · Comments (13)

Chivas 2-5 Barça

Good news for Culés in California. The last game of Barça's summer tour of the United States will be at San Francisco's Candlestick Park stadium against Chivas of Guadalajara. The game will take place on August 9 at 0500h Spanish time. I'm not 100% on the time difference but I believe California is nine hours behind Spain so in San Francisco I presume the game will kick off at 8pm on Saturday 8th August. Maybe someone can confirm this. Last year we beat Chivas 5-2 in a preseason game in Chicago.

Our preseason schedule now looks like this. (times are Spanish local time)

July 24 - Tottenham (Wembley 9pm)

July 26 - Al-Ahly (Wembley 2.15pm)

Aug 1 - Los Angeles Galaxy (Rose Bowl, Pasedena 5am)

Aug 5 - Seattle Sounders (Qwest Field, Seattle 4.30am)

Aug 9 - Chivas (Candlestick Park, San Francisco 5am)

Aug 16 - Athletic Bilbao - Spanish Supercup 1st leg (San Mames, Bilbao)

Aug 18 - Gamper (rival to be announced) (Camp Nou, Barcelona)

Aug 23 - Athletic Bilbao - Spanish Supercup 2nd leg (Camp Nou, Barcelona)

Aug 28 - Shakhtar Donetsk - European Supercup (Monaco)

So finally its At. Bilbao for the super cup, I think they deserve to contest for it more than Madrid do. Quite a very busy pre season though.

Hey Nic.

You're right on both accounts. SF is 9 hours behind Spain, and the game is scheduled for approximately 8pm Pacific Standard Time. It is the second match of a double header being billed as the 'Night of Champions'. The first match will be our local club, the San Jose Earthquakes, playing the reigning MLS champs, Colombus Crew, at 5:30pm. Tickets go on sale to non-season ticket holders on Monday June 22nd.

SF has a large mexican immigrant population. My girlfriend and I have been to sold-out friendlies in the SF Bay Area when the Mexican national team is in town. Amazing, festive atmosphere with green as far as the eye can see... so Chivas alone would draw a huge crowd. Chivas v. Barça will be epic.

Right now we're trying to wriggle out of previous plans for that night (down in LA!) to see the blaugrana during their first-ever visit to SF.
