We all know that Gerard Piqué's goal against Real Madrid on Saturday was Barça's 100th goal in La Liga this season, but did you know it also meant that it took Barça's overall goal difference in all competions to +100? In the league we have scored 100 and only conceded 28 (+72), in the Champions League we have 33 goals in favour and 13 against (+20), while in the Copa del Rey we have knocked in another 13 and conceded 5 (+8), taking our overall figures to: goals scored 146, goals conceded 46. Can anyone remember another team from one of Europe's major leagues achieving a similar feat?
There were other records achieved on Saturday: the win took us to 85 points which equals the highest points total in a league of 20 teams, achieved by Real Madrid last season. The outright highest total of 92 points was reached by Real Madrid in 1996/97 but there were then 22 teams in La Liga and so they played 42 games. With four games remaining we could still beat that total.
It was also Barça's 27th victory of the season which equals the record (in 38 games) set by Real Madrid in 2007/08. Barça won 28 games out of 42 in 1996/97 which is the highest total ever and also well within the reach of the present team. Saturday's victory was also our 13th away win of the season which is already an all-time record.
As for goals scored we are still 8 away from beating the record of 107 set by Real Madrid in 1989/90, and three away from beating Barça's best of 102 in 1996/97 which was achieved in 42 games. If we can maintain our goal difference of +72 in the league we will also beat the best ever goal difference of +71 which Madrid also set in 1989/90.
Finally the two goals apiece from Thierry Henry and Leo Messi on Saturday means we now have the highest scoring threesome in the history of the league. In 1960/61 Ferenc Puskas 28, Alfredo de Stefano 21 and Luis del Sol 17 scored 66 goals between them, Samuel Eto'o with 27, Messi with 23 and Henry with 19 have now reached the incredible total of 69 league goals between them.
We all know that even though La Liga looks to be in the bag, we haven't won anything yet. However, just for the football we have seen this season I think it is fair to say that this is one of the greatest teams of all time.

What a season it has been for Barcelona
and it can only get better .
Guardiola is the main architect of this turnaround .At the start of the season no one knew him and after 2 games every body ( including me ) was thinking of how bad the season could turn out to be .But the way he has handled all the pressure is a remarkable thing . I hope he remains the coach of Barcelona for many many years like Alex Ferguson .
guys, have you noticed that the entire football community is only focusing on the BARCA-CHELSEA clash. why? no news from arsenal or man utd. any news from BARCA or CHELSEA camp is accompanied by thousands of comments. i just hope we don't hear of heart attacks or deaths after Wednesday's game.
QUIZ:
WHAT IS PEP'S LINE UP FOR WEDNESDAY?
i am suprised we haven't heard from rijkaard or ronaldinho. it will mean a lot to hear from them .we can not forget what those 2 have done for us...
ya..Ozone...u said right...they are my two fav. personal...they were supposed to comment on us...its a bit dissapointment...
by the way...cool margin(100+)i din know that...
people don think about man u vs arsenal clash...cz there is no spanish team there....so its a boring clash indeed....and arsenal's forward line is horribly cheap...i wonder they can do little to man u...
and for us....i don knwo what..i don mind wht happens....just go and show them ...football is more than ugly winning...,....
This really has been a fantastic season for Barça. 2005/2006 felt more secure for some reason, but that squad's play was inferior to Pep's. We haven't won anything, too true, but watching the caliber of football performed by the Blaugrana this campaign has been a rare joy.

Barca!!!Messi!!!Grt!!!
how negative their(chelsea) attitude ..just look...drogba said "The key is that we score first and then let's see what they do, because that changes the scheme of the game."...u can certainly understand what will happen if chelsea score first...the buses from whole london will be parked there....i am afraid london people will be in trouble of transport for an hour...

Thanks a lot of Marco.
I'm very concerned about how Barca defend and the truth is that - yes - they do need to win Champions League to be considered one of the best and most beautiful of all of Barca's teams. I love this team and will love them even if they lose the CL. But as brilliant as they are in every other area of the field, they do seem to have occassional flaws which may hold them back from total greatness: a weakness in the centre of the defense and occassionally weak goalkeeping. If somehow these areas do not get exploited and Barca win it all beautifully, then yes, they will possibly be the best ever...
This is truley amazing and there is still hope and time to break another 2 Mardrid records.
Most points in a season
+
Most goals scored in a season
Barca this season have been dominant in every area and the players and management deserve all the praise they're getting.
