Confirmed: Puyol Out For Three Weeks

Monday, 09 March 09, 09:36 AM · Comments (13)

Puyol leaving hospital today. 9 March 2009

Tests today have confirmed that captain Carles Puyol has a strained ligament in his left ankle. The time of recovery is thought to be three weeks. Fortunately he should only miss three games in that time, the Champions League second leg with Lyon, and the league games away at Almeria and at home to Malaga. With Eric Abidal out and Gabi Milito not yet ready to return we are going to be a bit stretched at the back and will have to pray that nobody else gets hurt soon.

i just heard that benzema is not playing tomorrow. honestly i rate that gives them next to no chance. and also i heard mensa and boumsong are doubtful. all that has to give us a pretty large advantage.

The latest report - LINK - I've seen on Benzema is that he is with Lyon in Barcelona and he is confident of playing. I just hope he is not at 100%

bboy-

sorry to burst your bubble but on goal.com it says that benzema and benzema are in the 20 man group that will come to camp nou

..........but not having puyol and abidal might be very tough for us but hopefull we play smart in defense and play the way we do in offense overall i will just be happy getting to the quarter finals

messiah10, i went on the spanish version of the barcelona site..i dont understand spanish but from what i understand, i think they mean that botia has started training with the team since last match against bilbao because alves and caceres were suspended...and he continues to train with the team. so alves and caceres should both be available.

Yes, They will be available, they were suspended for last game against Bilbao, they'll be present for when Barca beats Lyon at the Camp Nou =)

those boys are not suspended for the game.

i heard that thing on espn about benzema, so not the most reliable of sources, but they just said he is unlikely to participate. just because he is traveling doesnt mean he will play. could be lyon coach mind games too.

whatever, we will see wed night. either way, him there or not, i think we will go through. if he doesnt play it just makes it that much less difficult

Messiah 10 - It was a mistake on the English version of the official site. FCB88 got it right, on the Spanish version it says Botia was in the squad for the last match due to Alves and Caceres being suspended. Not the first time there has been a mistake in the official site's translation, maybe I should apply for the job :)

We should not be worried about whatever Benzema can or could do.......as long as Messi our regim do their duties well we shall trash their gutts out!!!!

I doubt if Benzema would make any difference. He probably would not even finish the game .I think this should be an easy win but we can't concede silly free kicks !!

we need Puyol to solidify the defence, he is the one that keeps the defence tight.

Rest well and come back roaring to go for the final stretch, Tarzan.
