Crosas To Celtic And Other Stuff

Monday, 11 August 08, 10:22 AM · Comments (23)

Not a lot to report from the last two days in Barcelona, the beginning of the Olympic Games means the local sports papers have plenty of other news to fill their pages meaning the transfer rumours can be put to one side. However, what can be reported is that Marc Crosas move to Celtic has been confirmed and the player was presented before Celtic's win against St Mirren this weekend.

For €500,000, Celtic have got an absolute bargain. For Crosas too it is an excellent opportunity as competing against the likes of Xavi and Iniesta he was always going to have an uphill struggle to break into Barça's midfield. I've probably only seen Crosas play about ten times but he always looked a good prospect. I wish him every success at Celtic.

Meanwhile at the Olympic Games Leo Messi's Argentina booked a place in the quarter finals after beating Australia 1-0. The Argentina team have now moved from Shanghai to Beijing where according to one story I read Kobi Bryant is supposedly hoping to meet Messi.

Back in Barcelona there is still a bit of transfer speculation going on. The most important is that every day it seems more likely that Samuel Eto'o will remain at Barça. There is also the resurfing of Manchester United's alleged interest in buying Thierry Henry, after Henry's insistence on leaving Arsenal that he would never play for another Premiership club, I feel the move is highly unlikely. Talking of Arsenal, the story of Arsene Wenger's interest in signing Toure Yaya reappeared this week. I have only six words for the French coach: in your dreams you whinging bastard. According to El Sport Barça are now only interested in one more signing and that is Valencia's David Silva. We could certainly do with some reinforcement for the left sided forward position, Henry is still not showing the necessary form and Andres Iniesta will also be needed to play in midfield, so if we can get Silva while keeping Eto'o I think we will have sufficient strength up front to challenge for major trophies.

Wisla Krakow arrived in Barcelona today and this evening at 9pm they will train at Camp Nou. Wisla began their league campaign this weekend with a 1-0 win over Polonia Bytom, however, they lost Brazilian defender Cleber injured in the game and midfielder Piotr Brozek is also doubtful for Wednesday's game. Barça trained this morning and tomorrow will train at 8pm at Camp Nou, the final preparation session will be on Wednesday morning.

Does this mean that Crosas cannot play against Barca during a CL match (if they end up facing each other) ?

its a great move for crosas. but we have a buy back option in 2 yrs anyway so its the perfect transfer for everyone. he can develop playing first team and we can bring him back if he achieves his potential.

lets all pray together that fergie really does sign henry. then life would be glorious. i think its unlikely but i still entertain the chance

I know Henry to Man U will never happen, but i really hope that it would. Henry cannot play with eto'o as he slides to the left and does nothing at all. eto'o is a better goal scorer for this system and is also 4 years younger. Barca should try to sell Henry and buy a big target striker to play alongside Sammy. Someone like berbatov, trezguet, huntelear that does not need the ball to cause trouble and can play off eto'o and bojan. Henry's game is meant 4 england and at 31, i highly doubt that he will change his entire approach on how to play the game. Wenger converted him at a young age from winger to central striker, but now it would be a lost cause to convert him back, look at last year. He did score goals last year but this is Barca, saviola would of scored that many with the passes xavi, iniesta, messi were giving him. Keep Eto'o and sell Henry to buy a fw who will play big in the center, with maybe david silva taking up the left side. I know it wont happen, but everybody can wish.

I am right there with Blau...please, please, please take him, you gum chewing, "slave" driving, spanish hating cabron!!! yeah I will give Thierry Henry away...literally!!!
I don't think Eto'o is going anywhere. He is too good and we are not stupid. We simply need someone more solid at left field. David Silva would be fantastic!!!

Just some back story for Kobe Bryant... Kobe's grew up in Milan during Rijkaard's heyday in rossoneri. He is also a friend of Ronaldinho's, if I'm not mistaken. Coming from LA, it's nice to know my favorite basketball player is a Barca fan as well. Lakers-Barca alliance!

Valo_Endara, I think that depends on the contractual agreement between Barça and Celtic. I know Real Meh have done this in the past, but one can only hope the Catalan club sees better than to dip that low.

I hope M. Corsas transfer came with a clause, either he can't play against us or a buy back option for 500,000 that is a getaway, Barca are selling their players for less than nothing and are spending the most money in La Liga in the transfer market this summer, as i said before i am scared of the financial aspect of the club.. Henry is a big dissapointment i must say, but i will always show love to him and blame whoever is responsible for bringing him to Barca, how can we blame a player who was the biggest star at his club and left and came and play for Barca??? He could have stayed at his club but he came and put on the great Barca jersey, he surely deserve some love.

lol people got nothing better to do then slate Henry and wish their own beloved clubs top scorer to leave. Im sorry but this kind of attitude to players is what brings down giants such as Ronaldinho.

Henry has played 4 games FOR FCUK SAKE. Give him 10 competitive games in Pep's new system. Top scorer last season, top assist maker despite some above quoting he should have scored more from "xavi, iniesta, messi" passes :?

Im not blindly defending him, but give this new team a chances, everyone should get a clean slate, everyone not only certain players. Iniesta and Xavi hardly lit up La Liga last year and Eto didnt exactly put those chances away against Man United UCL Semi-Final did he? New season, new manager, give everyone a chance Barca fans come on :D

Come on guys, you need to lay off Henry a bit. I am not his biggest fan, but seriously, you have to be reasonable. Forget that he played out of position last season, or that he was injured. The fact is the Henry at Arsenal, the Henry you are all expecting, will never be the same as the Henry at Barcelona for one simple fact; We are not Arsenal. Arsenal built an entire team around Henry, everything was about him, getting the ball to him in space, passing to him whenever possible, working the one twos so that HE finds himself in space. We dont do that, we dont do anything like that, we are trying to build a team around Messi, NOT Henry so to expect him to perform at the same level as before is unrealistic and it is unfair. All that being said if you look at his stats last season he did very well playing out of position, on a new team and in new league. Oh and lets not forget it was the WORST season our team had in years....the WHOLE team, not just him.....so please lay off the guy. He is an incredible asset to have on our team and I can guarantee neither Silva nor Arshavin would get the same number of goals/assists from the left that he got last season. I can see why there are so many Henry haters out there and I have myself been very frustrated with him at times, but if you think about it rationally and logically there is little reason to be so hard on him. At the very least he deserves another full season to prove himself and not just a few preseason friendlies.

Also the fact is there is simply NO WAY he is going to Man Utd. Not a chance. Those of you who believe that there is even a 1% chance of this happening are in dreamland. He is not going anywhere next season, Pep has already stated that Henry is a big part of his plan. The best thing any Barcelona supporter can do right now is get behind Henry 100%, even if you dont like him. He is here to stay for at least a season, supporting him is going to be a lot more helpful to the team then constantly putting him down

A deal like the Crosas deal has been muted for a while. As far back as 2004/05 Celtic tried to come to an agreement with Barca to get players on loan or buy them. Saviola was meant to be the first but knocked back the move.

I hope he is a success for us. Also, I think this shows the close ties the clubs have developed.

Hail Hail

Hilal, i agree with you that the Henry of Arsenal will never be here, but that is the whole point. Barca bought the Henry of Arsenal, not the Henry of now. He did score goals, but Eto'o had a better goals/min ratio than anybody in La Liga last year. Henry and eto'o do not complement each other very well, and Henry is worthless when hes on the left (most his goals came when dinho and eto'o were out). Henry is 80% of the player he was 2 years ago, b/c of age, injuries, style of the system. Wouldnt a player like berbatov at his peak be a better fit for Barca than 80%Henry, who is also 4 years older. Plus a player like berbatov would play better with eto'o and be more dominant in the air when we play in europe and the teams play 6 defenders to block the middle. Henry is a talent, but where he is right now in his career does not benefit the club. If you watched Henry at Arsenal, you will remember how well he played off bergkamp. That is what Sammy needs, and henry does not give him that option. Also, the way Messi will play this year is to be more of a creative force, which requires the ball at his feet. With xavi, iniesta, hleb, keita/toure all needing the ball at their feet, Henry cannot fully show his potential in this system and never will.

Rivaldo I couldnt agree with you more, we would definitely benefit from a player like Berbatov, that was not my point. My point was that because Henry has to adapt to a completely different style and system we should give him a little more time to prove his worth. I already believe he is an extremely valuable player and I do think he is sometimes overcritisized by Barca fans.....that is all i was saying, give him a little more time and I think he can show that the Henry of Barca, while not the same as the old Henry, can still be great. If he doesnt show anything special this season then sell him and buy another player, but while we have him we are better off supporting him.

As for Eto'o, I love him. I think he is one of the best strikers in the world and I would take him over Henry in a heartbeat. I am really happy he is staying

@titi , there is somethin calld attitude...jst henry's attitude on the pitch is enough irritation...i'm not goin to talk about the tactical aspect as we hav a new coach and he might be very useful comin on from the bench but he really needs to do somethin about that attitude...another problem i tink is the age factor he's 31 this yr, am i d only one not comfortable with old players, nowadays most wicked players are in their mid-20s, aged players scare me a lot

about crosas...the way barca produce this midfielders is alarming...is there a chance if i get into the youth set up i could learn to thread a pass through a gap in my teeth...lol..i can bet that by the time we feel like exercising the buy-back option for crosas, there will be like 3 new xavis and iniestas waiting also

i'll like us to get silva too but that will imply benching for some stars...wat will we now do with hleb

im not getting into another henry debate. titi will always defend him and its because u have the arsenal support bias. a few months back i wrote a long counter argument to one of your (titi) henry backups and u said u agreed with it. and im sorry u guys cannot keep making excuses for him. he wasnt even that good at arsenal his last yr so his bad form has just perpetuated from then. and im sick of this position thing, god it irritates me. henry at arsneal spent a majority of his life on the left wing. the problme NOW is he is SLOOOOWWW, he isnt that quick striker of the past, if he was he would dominate the left and be able to cut in, receive a one two, and knock it in. and lets not even get into his disgusting attitude.

but at the end of the day, its really the fault of the people who brought him in. i said from day one this was a poor transfer and im so far 100% right. i have not been seeing preseason so im not judging him on it. but did u watch his euro? he was just as awful as always. i HEAR his preseason has been likewise.

so lets summarize: henry was mostly terrible last yr, was terrible in the euro, still seems to be playing terrible and lazy now. doesnt that just make u excited about his prospects now?

but look, i realize he is our player, and honsetly honestly, i hope he does very well. I HOPE HE HELPS US WIN!!!! i just dont see it happening, he is old, he has lost his pace, he is distracted with his daughter, he is under so much pressure now to perform, and i think he is selfish/arrogant and doesnt want to play where he is "told".

also i dont see how u expect people to get behind henry. honestly i dont. u cant just blindly support. want an example of a player u CAN get behind, u CAN love, and people did support: Eto'0. Why?

well, etoo was told (unfairly and disrespectfully) to leave the club and was surplus. what did he do? he kept his mouth shut, trained as hard as ever, and played like an absolute champion. he kept his lips shut and did his talking on the field. during pre-season i might add, where people think u usually take it easy.

now with henry its the TOTAL opposite. his lips never stopped flapping about running to much (puke), missing his daughter, injury, blah blah blah and did nada on the field. maybe he should talk with his boots a bit more. that why he has such minimal support. nothing to do with dip. anyone can accept a dip or difficult with change in league, as long as its accompanied with EFFORT and a good ATTITUDE.

and AGAIN, i swear im not some narrsasist who wants to be RIGHT about everything. i dont want henry to be bad, plz believe that. i wish he could fit like glove in the team and link up with them and everyone was happy happpy. all i am doing is calling it as i see it, as its BEEN THUS FAR. u cant say thats not true.

Blaugranaboy I cant really argue with you cos most of what you say is correct. Last season his attitude was all wrong, his effort on the pitch was nowhere near enough and all the rest. I am not saying he was not dissapointing last season. All I am saying is give him one more season to prove himself. Pep seems to believe in him so I feel we should believe in him too, at least for a while. Everybody should get a blank slate this year with a new coach and a new mentality looking forward. He is stuck with us now so we might as well try to make the best of it and support him. Pep is not the type of coach to play somebody because of their name so if he doesnt play well enough he is just gonna sit on the bench anyways and then we'll sell him.

What better front line could we have than Messi, Eto'o and Bojan?

No disrespect to Henry, I know he has been one of the greats, but he was crocked and had lost his edge when he was bought. In the opposing penalty area he is too often half a second or 20 cm too slow.

The problem is he has played too many games because he was a star signing of Laporta.

This will be the litmus test of Pep Guardiola ... will he be able to stand up to Laporta and play whichever players are objectively most in form?

Or was he put in place to be a "Yes" man?

I would be great to find out that the first option is the case!
