Dani Alves And Today's Other News

Friday, 06 June 08, 12:05 PM · Comments (12)

Due to being out all day yesterday I was unable to bring you the latest news. First, in case you haven't seen it, here is a link to Xavi's fantastic goal for Spain against the USA on Wednesday, and also you can see Messi's goal in Argentina's 4-1 win over Mexico. Of the transfer stories the big news is that Barça seem to have come to an agreement with Sevilla for the signing of Dani Alves.

Txiki Begiristain and Marc Ingla travelled to Sevilla yesterday to negotiate face-to-face with Sevilla's president Del Nido, and reports say that they have agreed an initial fee of €32 million with an extra €3 million to be paid for games played and trophies won, etc. If the deal goes though Alves will become the most expensive defender ever. Alves is currently in the USA, with the Brazilian team who are due to play Venezuela tonight in a friendly in Boston.

Meanwhile, Giovani dos Santos declared that next season he will be playing for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premiership, though neither club has made an official announcement yet. Spurs are reportedly waiting to see that Giovani recovers fully from his ankle operation before completing the signing.

With Cristiano Ronaldo looking likely to be leaving Manchester United some reports say that Barça may try to convince him to come to Camp Nou, though it would seem that Real Madrid are firm favourites to get him. There is also more talk today from El Mundo Deportivo that Barça could be close to signing David Trezeguet from Juventus.

about time this gets completed. sure the transfer fee is high but money comes and goes. we arent going to liquidate because of it. ramos was the same price or close to and now it seems like a bargain with how he has progressed. im not 100% on alves but im damn excited to see him. at least now he can put on a barca shirt instead of having them next to him. lol

Just to point out that £5 euros for Alves is less than the £29m Man U paid for Ferdinand so Alves won't be the world's most expensive defender.

@Lazeuras, your right it works out to be about 37m Euros for Rio Ferdinand... Nic your slipping :)

Im glad Alves is coming and we are not spending money on pointless (but good) signings like Henry last year. Beefing up the midfeild with Keita, shoring up the defence with Alves and Carakakakakas.

All we need to know now is if Ronnie and Eto are staying. The former I hope goes simply for everyone involved. He is still good but his overall effect on dressing room morale, the press speculation and not to mention our wage bill means we should let him go. As for Eto some fans are idiots. People who booed Sammy are idiots. Without him our 4-3-3 cant work. We need him and hopefully he'll stay or it will be another season of rebuilding again...

The La Liga title will hopefully be ours next year guys!!

Barca!!

My god we need Kun Aguero! Did anyone see the clip of the Messi goal? Look at the chemistry between those two. Sell Eto and Henry and get him now! Argentina is definately the nation to beat in international competitions. My pick for gold in the summer Olympics.
