Guardiola Fines Six Players

Friday, 15 May 09, 07:08 AM · Comments (12)

The players celebrate with Pep Guardiola after winning the Copa del Rey. May 2009.

There may be an exellent relationship between Pep Guardiola and his players, as shown in the celebrations after winning the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night, but Guardiola showed no let-up in his strict regime by fining six first team players for arriving late for this morning's training session. Leo Messi, Samuel Eto'o, Eider Gudjohnsen, Xavi Hernandez, Toure Yaya and Dani Alves will all have to pay a fine of €500 after turning up after the agreed time this morning. The players were only ten minutes late and one or two of them arrived just one minute late, but for Guardiola it makes no difference and the six players all received the same fine. It is good to see that despite winning the Copa del Rey Guardiola treats these things seriously, this professional approach is one of the reasons that has made the difference this season.

WOW!

I think this is the MAIN difference between him and Frank Rijkaard. There are no superstars in the team. Reminds me a bit of the reports u hear of Alex Ferguson....I hope Pep stays long at Barca and is succesful.

@Azteca and Nic,

Maybe Nic can put his hands on it and put together a nice travel package, you know a raffle, for next year's classico at the Nou for someone on the forum...a trip for two, for 4 days, a tour of the Nou and an autograph session with Iniesta!!! =D =D =D hee?

But seriously the raffle idea for next year is not bad at all. If we put together a raffle where everyone can participate and use whatever is collected above and beyond the cost of 2 entrances is donated to charity is a great idea. It would not only increase loyalty to this site but also allow all of us to contribute in advancing the underlying mission of oour club:charity.
Am I crazy to suggest this?

of course crazy @Diatus...u let me start dreaming.. :D ..lol...i would then expect more player to be late.....and might request some players...explaining our benefits related...hahaha

I love the idea......everyone should be treated the same , but losing 500 euros to these guys is like paying for a burger that turned out to be rubbish .
good approach though .
Pep till years to come .

It's important to be above your players and treat them all equally, no favouritism, A coach should never be buddys with his team, as that is the first sign of a manager losing the dressing room and respect.

The players must be motivated and be respectful at all times...

Being a disciplinarian was exactly what this team needed most, someone to guide this beautifully talented team in the right direction and that's What Guadriola has done, this attitude will lead FC Barcelona onto many successes.

Guardiola is the best!!! and our saviour...
