Henry Double Sinks Tunisia

Henry celebrates one of his goals

There were six Barça players on international duty yesterday and the star of the night was Thierry Henry who scored twice in France's 3-1 win in a friendly against Tunisia. Tunisia took the lead after 30 minutes but France hit back with goals from Henry in minutes 40 and 49. Karim Benzema scored France's third just before the hour. Henry played 83 minutes before being substituted by Malouda. Eric Abidal played the full 90 minutes in central defence.

Gerard Piqué, Sergio Busquets and Bojan Krkic were all in action for Spain's under-21 team who beat Switzerland 3-1 after extra time to qualify for the under-21s European Championship. Piqué and Bojan played the entire 120 minutes while Busquets came on as a sub in the 74th minute.

Martin Caceres played 90 minutes at left back as Uruguay came back from 2-0 down to grab a valuable draw against Bolivia. The point keeps Uruguay's chances alive of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.

Meanwhile the papers continue to speculate about the future of Toure Yaya. Juventus are supposed to be interested while this morning's papers talk about a possible swap with Liverpool's Xabi Alonso. There is also a story that Arsenal and Juventus are interested in Busquets. As I've mentioned before, I give these stories less importance when they arrive during an international break as the papers will print anything to fill their pages. I will be more worried if the stories persist after Barça are back in action. Meanwhile Toure is doubtful for Sunday's game at Athletic Bilbao with a knee problem.

Yesterday i saw Yaya confirming, that if Pep wouldn't use him more in the future, he would be open to other clubs - especially Juve.
This would simply be a disaster. He is such a magnificent player, and if Pep doesn't realize that soon, then... AARHHH!! I really don't know what then...

Apart from that it's nice to see Mr. Elegance having some success... I'm starting to have a bit of faith in him again.

yeah also saw yaya having a bit of a whinge...i dont like it how after only a couple of games his manager is making statements and he himself is declaring he wouldnt say no to juve...just silly really. he is a good football player but he is no superstar and should really just keep his mouth shut and prove himself rather than cry about it. he has been benched a couple games and hasn't even TRIED fighting for a startin XI...in a couple weeks or months even he still isnt getting gametime...then fair enough. as for now...just prove yourself mate!

Allez Henry! He is a really good leader, if you watch Benzema's goal again, he hugged Benzema and Ben Arfa at the other hand, since there are problems between Benzema and Ben Arfa.

happy for henry , he needs to score goals to increase his level of confidence , about Yaya i think its a little too early for giving up barca , we played only 6 matches and pep is still new to the team and might change his mind by the time coming and let more players anticipate . Toure is a great player but with a squad like ours u don't expect to anticipate in every single match which creates a great atmosphere of competition . Personally will hate the fact of switching tuore for alonso although i find it very unlikely

yeah im happy for henry too. every bit of confidence he can get will be good for us, hopefully he can translate that into performances worth noting. doesnt change the fact that rumors to man city still please me and that it would be the smart choice for barcelona without question, squad wise and money wise. plus, nearly any replacement we can get in jan will be good enough to fill his shoes, which here at barcelona are rather small. but ill leave the henry comment at that.

yaya, terrible worrying rumors! especially with his very professional football answer, the "im happy, but u never know" response that has become so standard. and id have to disagree with ur aussie dude, yaya is a big star in barcelona, the local fans love him, last year he was unbelievable when playing and then incredibly dedicated to the cause playing with a very painful injury, taking injections every game. i feel he should be an untouchable player on the staring 11 with the likes of puyol, xavi, iniesta, messi, and etoo. i also dont know how u can claim he hasnt been fighitng to be a startign role, i wonder how u know that? u been attending trainings? fact is he has been excellent when playing i thought, so i dont see how playing well when given the chance doesnt mean u deserve a regular start.

however, the fact is, its not fair for us to comment. none of us have any clue what happens in training and behind closed doors. maybe yaya has seen pep put more faith in keita and busquets, maybe pep doesnt motivate or conversate with yaya like others. we dont know the full truth. i agree 6 games in is a bit much to start getting overly dramatic, but like i said its not only about those 90minutes, a footballers job is much more than that and much more can happen than we know. either way, there isnt one person i know that wouldnt say yaya is our best defensive mid, if not in the top 3 or 4 in the world. lets hope guardiola isnt one of the people that would disagree.

Hey Blau,

I agree 100% . Right on my friend, right on!

In addition, the season is too long and I hope that Yaya is a good a team player as I hope he is. We can use him since you never know what will happen. And if we can continue on our good track, we are slated to play a possible 63 games this season, which is a huge number of games. So, I am certain that Pep will be calling on him at some point. I truly hope he stays.

Eto'o scored twice (I think) over the weed end and jeez man I hope he continues his form and deliver a 25+ goal season. That would be fantastic!

yaya is an amazing player and i want him to stay but pep cant use him for the sake of making him stay at barca because the team isnt about one player. im pretty sure pep is trying to do what is best for the team.

Its great to see Henry scoring again to keep up his great strike rate for International football. As I have said, most fans on here always judge Henry after 1 game in his normal Centre Forward position however but in Barca if he doesnt score he is automatically relegated to the wide-left again. I think he needs to play more in CF for a pro-longed period and judged after 10 games at CF not 1 game CF, 1 game on the wing. I know some of you like blaugranboy have good reason to have lost faith in him, but I firmy believe iver the season he will contribute a lot and is the best super-sub the world! =D

As for Toure, I think he has displayed a bit of naivety to be honest. Yes he hasnt played alot this season and his replacement Keita has hardly been setting the world alight, but Barca have been playing very well with heart and determination so he should be patient and show respect by acting professional or he can be shipped off as Im sure Pep will do if he continues to speak out and risk upsetting dressing room harmony. However, he plays very well when he does come on and I think in the end he will take the DM spot again and as with Henry, we need to keep quality reserves as it can tell over a season.

blaugranaboy - mate i agree with you on his good performances when he does play...and fair comment on the fact that he isnt fighting for that spot...perhaps what i mean is that its still so early...and the fact that he is complaining about it already is worrying...i am too passionate about barcelona as a club to have a player state that he couldnt refuse a dream move to a club like juve! c'mon...you cant tell me that doesnt get to you!?

i have not forgotten his efforts last season either...was a huge fan...but its a new season now and the bottom line for me is that any player who complains and claims he wouldnt mind another club when you are currently playing for the best in the world...just isnt the go. hopefully he puts its behind him..keeps going hard and cements that spot...cause you right he is one of the best.

in other news...iniesta's goal...not bad eh!

VISCA EL BARCA!

alright, there is really isnt much to argue against any points made here, just some friendly banter.

titi: ur defense for henry is admirable. but i think i can see that even you are realizing its getting harder to defend his necessity at barca. u say he needs a "prolonged run as CF". does that mean benching etoo? getting him upset (and rightly so i would say)? why man? henry is the past, he is not the future for this club. he has no business being given a chance as starting striker. he was a bad transfer for the start. etoo right now is our present and future, he is 5 yrs younger, a better player and has the support of the fans. the best super sub?? shit, if henry is happy to live in a beautful city, be on the best team, and ride the bench and be a happy, play with determination when called upon, then BY ALL MEANS, keep him!!!!!! i just dont think he would be happy in that role. and like i said, u cant argue the fact selling him is the best financial move. drop the 2nd highset earner (i think), get min 20 mil and get rid of an investment that went bad with no financial loss.

second, aussie guy. these were toure's exact words:

"The coach rotates the midfield, and I am waiting for my chance. There are still plenty of games to play.

"The club is doing well, so we shall wait and see. I don't know (about moving to another club). You never know.

"I will take my chance at Barca when handed it. I love Barcelona. It is the biggest club, but there are others as well."

i have no issue with that answer. and the likelihood is his agent made him say it. he did the "i love it here, but lets see". but overall he said "i love barcelona" and "im waiting", and said nothing about juve being a "dream move". like i said, we dont know the words and actions behind doors. personally, i would feel underappreciated if i was him right now. i just hope guardiola isnt going to be stubborn and prideful and bench him to prove a point. yaya is crucial!!

Toure: “I want to go to Juve. It is a huge opportunity for me, even if I would miss the Champions League. It's a chance I can't afford to let slip and I don't want to miss out for any reason. In a month or at most a month and a half I will know what is going on with me and Barça,”

lol. ok, im not even going to open the link, first im going to guess its from goal.com.

alright, opening it now.......

lol, yes. dude, goal.com is by far the most unreliable of unreliable websites. i dont even bother reading it. and by the way this interview came from tuttosport, one of the most garbage italian papers. mine was directly quoted from skysports. anyhow, not saying that he didnt say urs but its a little less likely. either way, even if toure didnt say he wants to go, where there is smoke, there is usually fire. i wouldnt totally discred it. in general, take everything goal.com says very skeptically.
